@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Dave-- I found this tip for Studio One version 5 that definitely helped out. You probably know this, but if you're running an earlier version of Mac OS, (I'm running the highest version of Mojave), just do this one trick. Open Studio one, and go to Preferences, and then click on the General tab. There is a box at the bottom that says enable graphics hardware acceleration, uncheck that one box. I did this after seeing it on You Tube, and it has definitely helped cut back on a lot of issues .If someone is running Catalina, you want to leave this box checked, but for older operating systems, it really helps a lot!
Cannot thank you enough for sharing your expertise! I am a Studio One user, which is an incredibly powerful recording software, and I was becoming extremely frustrated with the incessant pops, crackles and static during playback. I knew that I needed, and plan on purchasing, a 16 GB Ram, Quad core processor, dedicated to recording; however, currently, this is not an option. After viewing your video, I comped all of my instrument tracks. I did not even know this feature existed. ( Comping an instrument track, renders it to an audio wave track, which significantly reduces the load on the main processor, for those individuals not familiar with this feature in studio one. Simply click on the track, click on comp to new track, or comp selection.) Once the instrument track is rendered to a wave track, the instrument track can be removed, thus reducing the load on the processor. Though this completely eliminated the issue, it just makes good sense to have a laptop dedicated to recording. Thanks again for sharing your expertise. I would not be able to use the software without the assistance of individuals like yourself, Joe Guilder, Graham Norton, and a few others.
You're very welcome! Thanks for your support!

Great advice, thanks
No problem!
Excellent Video. Thank you so much for posting. Your teaching style is wonderful :)
Thank you very much!
This is such a NECESSARY VIDEO!! This info should be in the Presonus manual.
TIP: On a PC, go into the power settings and set them to high performance. Make sure it is not on "energy saving" settings. This makes a big difference as well and solved freezes for me.
Thanks for sharing the info!
Very helpful. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Great stuff Dave. Thanx!
My pleasure!
Thank you great content
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanx ... Im having latency problems and this really helps.. thnx again

This guy rocks with studio one info Thanks A Million!
Thank you Sir!
Your videos regarding Studio One are really a great help. Thanks for that. In this video you mention playing a bass with a keyboard. Yes, of course you can make deep notes with a keyboard, but a bass is something else. As a bass I highly recommend a Fender Precision which actually, for good reason, is the most recorded bass ever.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you
You're welcome
I use both Waves soundgrid and UAD for plugin processing. I use waves soundgrid early on as you can also track at very low latency with plugins. Then when mixing I will add in my UAD system for reverbs, room sims etc.
Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate your support! Be sure to check out my website for even more training.

Thank you Sr. Universal Control update did the trick :))
Happy to help
Dude, you sir are a lifesaver! Thank you!
Glad to help!
Damnn mann u help me solve my cracking microphone sound problem. Thank you so much mann!!
Glad to hear it!
Thanks bro 🙏🏾💪🏾✊🏾🎼
No problem
Amazing channel. I have a helix for recording electric guitars and it has onboard dsp for all my effects. With that said can I set the block size to the bottom entry, switch off studio one monitoring and not worry during recording as I’m monitoring through helix?
Thank you for watching
This fixed several problems that I had.
I didn't realize that since Presonus had switched to the Universal Control software that you couldn't change the sample rate and block size from the actual Studio one side. It has to be done through Universal Control app. This also fixed the cracks and pops on playback when I increased the block size and when I reduced the block size I didn't have latency. This saved me. Thanks again!
That's Great!
Thanks for this. I wish Vegas Pro had a video for this same thing. I do all of my tracking and a lot of mastering but also use the stems in Vegas Pro because I mostly produce 5.1 music - but Vegas Pro has been failing me with cutting out and latency since 13.
Thanks for watching
Hi,
👏👏👏 excellent
Thank you
You are the best on you tube. Thanks for helping old a analog guy
Thanks Michael!
BLOODY HELL! Had to get right up to the bonus tip to solve the ckracly poply thingy! Uninstalled and reinstalled DAW. Thanks a million good sir!
You're welcome!
Great video, thank you for all they YEARS of help!! I purchased upgrades to my RAM - but was told to make sure you get a good speed of your RAM as well. S1 can be demanding on your CPU, and a desktop in general will be a bit more effective than a laptop (in general). Windows 10 will be the last numerical update, there will be ongoing updates to W10. Thanks again!!!

You are an absolute hero!🎉 get me back in the game I have liked and subscribed
Welcome to the family!
You rock!
Thank you my friend!
BIG THANKS.....doing the first 3 tips, the cracks and pops went away.....I was getting crazy (more than usual). Again, big thanks. Today I see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Glad it helped!
Another thing for Mac, is to use the Disk Repair permissions (under Utilities) for your Hard drive! This does a refresh and fix some issues, possible. Thanks Dave
Thanks for the tip!!
I was troubleshooting my newly rebuilt system and did a Google search and got here. While I didn't find the solution to my problem, 1- I wanted to thank you for putting together the resource you did. And 2- I wanted to share how I resolved the issue, which I didn't see in your tips list.
In my case, I just rebuilt my PC that was working great before, but I hadn't done a full strip down since 2015 and have put my system through LOT since then. After rebuilding, I expected it to perform better, not worse. I have an i7 8700k with 16gb of RAM, an MSI motherboard, a Presonus Studio 1824 USB, Studio One 5.0.1, Windows 10 v2004, and some 3rd party and core VST instruments that were popping and clicking even at higher latencies than they did before.
The Fix: Go to your Power Management options and switch your power profile over to "High Performance" instead of Balanced or whatever it is on. Yes, it will use more power, but even though the CPU was only dipping slightly, it was apparently enough to anger my VSTis - now I am glitch-free back down at 64 samples like I was before. Hope that this helps someone else get their rig working!
Thank you very much for sharing
Great video. Thanks a lot.
I get crackles and sparks when I combine a song with a video. Any idea how I can have it not crackle?
I am really not sure. I recommend that you go to the Presonus user forum and post your question there. I am sure someone there can help. Thanks!
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Thanks. It was the video editor program 'Openshot' That exported it with interference from the video and audio.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Thanks man. It was actually the video editor: OpenShot that didn't export properly. Fighting the audio somehow.
Hey David, this is a great video! I am a novice to this right now. I have the newest Studio 1. I am running a presonus 1824 and I'm still getting pops and clicks. I have checked my cpu (lenovo Yoga 910 with ssd and i7) and my CPU meter almost never comes on. I'm not really using any plug ins. I am using a Kemper Profiler and running it via SPIDF into the presonus. I have messed around with the bit rates the clock, everything. I can't get rid of these pops and clicks. As I am typing this my computer is using the interface to my monitors for sound and I'm still getting clicks watching your video. Can you give me any tips? I don't know what I'm doing wrong
I am really not sure. I recommend that you go to the Presonus user forum and post your question there. I am sure someone there can help. Thanks!
Hey Dave, I found that if I mix down some of the heavier amp sims (like the Neural stuff for example), it saves on my CPU. Have you tried this before? Thank you!
I have not but great tip!
Good stuff! But for me, in addition to uping the block size to 1024 - that didn't seem to do much, so I tried setting the "dropout protection" to maximun, and it seemed to stop my instance of sputtering and popping.
Great!
Well done... this should have way more views than it has...
I agree.....LOL
at before i used fl studio and last month i changed the daw to studio one cause it's amazing but i have a problem
while i use some samples together for example while i use 2 or 3 kicks together it gives me noisy sound is this video fix of this problem?
Thanks for watching!
If you know of any other fixes that I left out of this video leave them in the comments below.
Thank you very much. I had the same problem and I tried everything you advised here, without solution. I was about to change the computer, fortunately I discovered that the temperature of the computer is very important , I tried to keep the temperature down. Buying a little fan. Thanks

taking a second to show how your opened universal control would have made the world of difference to me!
you dont know how to open an application?
Hey man this video helped a lot but didn't resolve the popping and crackling when I play using my Alesis Edrum Kit, Presonus iTwo interface, and EZ Drummer 2. I lowered the block size down to 16 and while not near as bad i'm still getting errant pops and crackles. Also I now have a half second of latency. My PC is an i5 and I got 8gigs of RAM which I'm reading should be enough. I've got nothing back from tech support so i'm just reaching out to see if you or anyone has any ideas on what else I can try. Thanks in advance and thank you for this video.
upgrade your RAM to 16GB thats step one. forgot what you read online. Then if that does not work, you are in the market for a new computer. Listen to this podcast and it should make sense.

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Hey thanks bro. I just got a new Alien Ware gaming laptop with 32 gb and and a screaming processor. Will try this laptop and check out that podcast. Thanks again for the help and great videos!
There's a difference be random pops and cracks (that don't always occur at the same place) and pops/cracks that always seem to happen at the same place... such as between events. In the latter there is most likely some particular artifact lurking about as playback moves from one event to the next.
For example, overly enthusiastic use of the snipping tool or un-thoughtout use of moving sections around in the arranger window (especially if snap-to-grid is disabled) can introduce hair thin events between other events. They can be so thin that you can't even see them. So when you think the track is moving directly from one event to another you might hear a click as these hidden razer thin events are passed by.
If I hear a pop at the same place every time as the timeline moves from one event to another, the first thing I will check is to see if there might be one of these razer-thin events between the two. The technique to find them is actually quite simple. Just grab each of the two events and slide them slightly to the left and right of the "event boundary". If a thin "artifact event" is there, you will see a thin vertical line (representing the entirety of the event). Simply select it and delete it... Problem solved!
Naturally, you must move the two adjacent events back to their contiguous positions after getting rid of of the unwanted event artifact.
Thanks for the info and for watching
I have a question about Studio One. My audiobox is giving me problems, so I'm just trying to do some recording by mic'ing the amp in the mean time. But I can't get Studio One to record that way. I see "Windows Audio" as an option for recording in the Studio One menu, and I see my USB microphone listed as the recording device. Yet when I go to record everything is grayed out and I can't do anything. Is Studio One for preamps and DI's only, and if so, why is the "Windows Audio" even an option?
Not sure.....sounds like a "Windows" thing. I would post your issue in the Presonus user forum. I am sure someone there can help
What if I use plugins on the audio track while I’m recording instead of after? What block size should I use then because I’m already using plugins while I’m recording my voice?
it all depends on your computer specs. I would test different block sizes to see what fixes the issue
Hi there. I'm trying to work with the markers to show where my track begins and ends as you showed. However, my consol doesn't have the start marker icon. Is this normal? Where might it have gone to? Thanks
I have no idea. what DAW are you using? What version? With out that detail, no here in the commnets can actually help.
Thanks for getting back to me. Luckily I managed to dig the icon out via some help from a friend 😅
I'm wondering how do I seen music to another computer like if I want someone else to be involved with the song but with the and pandemic it going on kinda want to stay safe I have a PC if you could help me that would be awesome

I’m getting pops from my monitors I’m using mackies if I play music from my daw or iTunes they pop or sound blown but when I play music from UA-cam there’s no problem any advice
No idea, that's pretty strange, sorry
One thing that should be noted is to keep an eye out for what i call cpu usage creep. Some plugins will seem fine at first but will suddenly start consuming large cpu percentages on certain presets over time. Tal bassline 101 and arturia dx7-v will do this on some presets only after a certain amount of time, or after several notes have been played.
Thanks for sharing!!
Why would CPU usage increase over time?
I recently bought an old Mandolin, my other instruments connect by cable so the nearest I had to microphone to record a few bars from it was my webcam, it appears that Windows Audio crackles and pops by default. =D
Ok, thanks for the infio!!!
There's a thing which helps me on Windows. You can switch the current playback device to some other device when you work in your DAW. Or maybe mute it. This way, when the system or some app tries to play something while you're in a DAW, it has fewer chances to affect the buffer. Or, at least, there are less non-relevant sounds :)
It seems that different audio interfaces can have different behavior when it comes to handling other sounds when you're working in a DAW. So it may or may not be relevant in your case.
Thanks for sharing!
I'm also wondering if I could hook up a sound mixer
sure you can!
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy cool that's awesome another question is how do stop the exco in my head phone's been trying to figure it out I trun down the nobs on the autobox then I cant here myself when I do that I been watching your videos I dont know if I'm missing some
Hi, I just received a PreSonus AudioBox USB 96 bundle that I'm using with Studio One Artist software. I'm completely new at all of this and I downloaded everything and set up everything correctly I believe. Following the instructions, I experimented with recording my voice. In the headphones and during playback, my voice sounds robotic and distorted. HELP!

Exactly disable your anti-virus on pc and go off line while recording. Like he said in the beginning if your making music with your system you have to delegate your computer to music. HARD FACTS!

Does the behringer umc22 work for this??
no idea. I dont know that unit. Sorry
+1 on the dedicated computer suggestion. But if you *must* have an all-purpose PC (esp. on the windows side), consider a sub-$1000 "gaming" PC using an AMD Ryzen processor. Cheaper than Intel with similar performance, and most modern DAW software *will* take full advantage of systems having multiple cores. What you save on the CPU side, you can spend on the SSD/nVME drive side. Mac OSes have been taking advantage of multithreaded processing for a while, but PC software has just about caught up.
Great advice for PC users...thanks for sharing
you forgot....lot of people we dont have the chance to have a UAD...will be nice if next video about this, you use a usb interface (more cheap...focusrite.etc)thanks
sure you do. They make native plugins now
Question, I’m using studio one, and it won’t let me change my device block size. It lets me change my internal block size, but my device block size for my audio box is set at 512 samples and it won’t let me move it. Do you know why?
Try change it in the Universal Control app if you are on a PC! If you are new to Studio One, check these out

Mine snap cracks and pops when I put my drums and distortion guitar on when I'm Tryna record I have studio one 5

I've got 128 GB of RAM and still getting crackles. Wasn't getting them before. The crackling started when I tried adding another track to a 10-track recording.
Time for you to send it a support ticket to your DAW company.
Another tip: use a bus for e.g. Echo effects and forward multiple channels to that particular bus. Don't add same echo multiple times to each instrument. Same with EQ etc. Try to reuse effects for multiple instruments.
Thanks for sharing the tip
My problem is that i used window 10 pro , my installation is done and finished. But whenever i open studio one 4 it start normally then after 5 second it disappeared like nothing happen there no crash report ...any help...
Contact Presonus. I have no idea, sorry
Thanks cause I've put in many tickets with presonus and they haven't figure my issue out. I get this issue only with the high density plug in and I noticed the cpu meter goes high and thats when I get the popping . So looks like I'll have to get a new laptop. Im on 4 gb of ram so I'm sure thats my issue.
Yep, thats an issue for sure.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy thank you man!
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy hey dude you won't believe this , it went away i am still saving for a better laptop cause I wanna get better at this. I just I ask you why when I click on drop out pertection and put it on high it completely fixed my issue? The dude at personus said put it on med when it was already pm med to begin with. I just happened to be messing around and clicked on that and bam gone. Any way you can best explain what I did lol or a link to a vid you may have already did explaining it lol. Appreciate your help friend. I still know I need more ram though, but for now its gone
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy I should also note i only have to have the dropout to max only on two certain plugins on high density plug ins. Its weird. I have to put normal or whatever on another plug in
I have a pc and had a difficult time finding the universal control
You need to download it from the Presonus website
This is gonna sound dumb... but where do I get the universal control app??
on the U/A website. You have to have a U/A Apollo interface to use it.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy so there’s no way to adjust the latency with a PC unless you have an Apollo interface?
I9s by Intel now to if building a new? Just guessing, thinking of stuff. Its going/is the new high CPU. Only reason I say that. You can add RAM and change a HDD on a PC pretty easy. But a motherboard/CPU in it. Not so much.
Thanks for the tip!
Can finish a (40+ track) in Cubase Pro on PC without resorting to UA System. With Studio one 4.5 the drum kit just maxed out my session. Using I3 intel chip and 16Gb of ram. Cubase just does not clip pop or crackle to the extent that Studio one does and if CPU starts maxing can just Freeze a few tracks, Render in Place or use the Offline Processing function. No need to pay £1000+ for UA. Would try Cubase Demo before forking out money to improve system. P.S. Going from 8gb to 16gb does not improve Cubase Performance just makes Wavs load a little faster and contrary to popular belief Studio one is not cheaper than Cubase I know I have both but only use Cubase due to S1 being unusable for my system. - not forgetting the cross platform price discounts also.
I appreciate the info. Thanks for watching.
I would also add that if your system is working well, do not update anything until you know it works for other people. Updates can solve issues but they can also create issues if you don’t have any.
Great point!
the popping for me starts as soon as i open up SO. I have a fairly new hp pavilion so im lost here lol good video though
You should contact Presonus tech support
you mean my desktop 16 core Ryzen work horse is crackling on a simple file playback? Every other DAW Ive used is butter smothe with hella huge files... Unless studio one is 10 tiers above FL studio or cubase i dont think im gonna continue using this and i literally just installed this..
I did not say that, I guess you did not actually listen to the video. If you have a 16 core with 16BG of RAM then your computer specs are not this issue. You have something else going on with your Windows PC.
I was getting pops and crackles...........................I put my computer into High Performance..............(It was in Balanced) ......................after change, the CPU performance in Studio One improved dramatically.........No CPU spikes............Hopes this helps !!
Thanks for the tip!!

What about Windows 10 users? Not everyone purchases Macs. Had zero problems with latency in Windows 7 and Cubase SX! Can't use newer VST's but I play hardware anyway.
Sorry, I am not a windows user so I am not the person to ask.
I had zero latency, clicks and pops with Win XP and Win 7 using Cubase ,Reason or Mixcraft Pro. Newer computer( Acer Predator 3000), 32gb ram, 1Tb SSD for recording , 10Tb external HD for storage. Still getting clicks and pops. Frustrating! Looking to go back to Tascam. Maybe model 12 to record and mix projects. Bought new cables, power distribution center and had new electrical panel installed. Some people always have "ghost" in the machine. Apparently my resident "ghost" needed company.👻🎶🤯
I have a old macbook from 2009, I can not afford a new computer or another just for music. It keeps crackling and pooping. I tried different settings. Not sure what to do. It is annoying when trying to make music and makes me want to stop.
Then you are stuck, sorry. You are not going to be able to use a computer that is almost 15 years old to do music production.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy guess i will have to get a new one then..
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy i just download reaper and it seems to be working now. since it takes up less cpu. Till I get a new computer.
You say set the block size as high as possible for recording and others say as low as possible. Then set the size as high as possible on playback. Which is it?
in the middle
I have 3 dedicated computers windows and a Mac. In all ProTools does not glitch up when I use more than 10 plugins. No matter what latency settings Studio One 5 always gets confused and glitches out. Protools is somehow able to handle more plugs possibly through AAX. I would deal with much more latency in Studio One, but even when maxed up in settings it always screws up. I love Studio One 5 but I need to render out processing to keep the load light. They need to address this, Studio One glitches out when adding plugs.
Interesting. I have not heard of these sorts of issues. I appreciate the info.
That's what is STRANGE!!! I see that your maximum value for the buffer is only 2048 samples. And I have this value twice as much - in my list there is a value of 4096 samples. And I always use it when mixing heavy projects. If I only had a value of 2048 samples, then I simply would NOT be able to mix almost all my projects. And I don’t have many audio tracks. I don’t have that many plugins installed. It's just that some plugins - such as OZONE 10/or from Acoustic Audio - put a VERY HARD load on the processor and Studio One. And this is the main problem when mixing. I'm very SAVED by the value in my list of 4096 samples. And all my colleagues do not have such a high parameter of 4096 samples. What do you think about this?
the sample size totally depends on your audio interface that you are using. Plus, this video is 3-4 years old. My new interfaces all go up-to 4,000 samples and I have never needed to go about 1028 myself.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy I thought that 4096 is precisely due to the Metric Halo interface. I wonder what kind of computer you have - if you're not even using 1028 samples in Studio One? Do you have an M1 or M2 chip on your new Mac? Because i7/i9 on big projects can't handle 512 sample buffer values.
Forgot to mention how important CPU speed is.. I just bought a brand new PC with i7 13 gen, 32 GB RAM 1 TB SSD drive and on Windows 11. My CPU speed is around 2.3 Ghz but can go up to 5 Ghz.. I read that you need a min 3Ghz CPU.. IS that my issue?
Could be. It totally depends on how big you session are, how many VST's are you using and other variables. My guess is its not your computer that's the issue but some setting you have etc. Impossible for me to trouble shoot in e-mail. I would need to see the setup and walk through it with you
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Thanks for the reply.. Listen to this weird issue. I forgot to mention I have a TV/monitor also connected to my new laptop through the HDMI. When I have studio one on the laptop monitor, no problems.. Then when I put Studio One on the HDMI screen there is audio pops right away.. So the extra screen doesn't like Studio One.. That could be the problem.. Just scarred my new PC cant handle Studio One. I have 1 more week to bring it back..
I don't get it. I literally just finished a song with a ton of vst plugins on about about twenty or more tracks with no issues. Now I can't record one one track without crackling. My buffers are real low and sample rate is low. Reinstalled my focusrite drivers and still crackle.
maybe a corrupt session file? are you using a PC? if so, disable any anti-virus software running in the background. Re-boot computer. Clear memory. There are a millions reasons and variables.
Thanks, I did all of those and it's working like it should. I've got an older pc laptop with i3 processing and maxed out at 8 GB RAM. I'm guessing it's time to upgrade. If I jump to mac are the mac mini's worth it?
I Think there is a real problem with Studio One
I have a custom PC with Intel i9 CPU, 32GB RAM, Samsung Nvme SSD 1TB Etc. and i am still getting cpu spikes when using studio one.
The CPU is using averaging 35% and RAM Is Around 40% to 45%. My block size is set to 512 and Sample rate is 44100. I am using a Scarlett 2i2 3rd Interface. dropout protection is set to maximum and plugin nap is enable. Power Option is also set to maximum peformance. and low lantency monitoring is off. Be searching the internet all day but no help.
Buy a Mac and be done with all those sorts of issues.
Yeah. Tip 12 and 13. I had S1 just crashing or simply working like crazy on one project and this escalated to other projects. making S1 acting like virus PC. That why I stopped using S1. This happened to me 2 times recently making my last track impossible to finish. This never happened with any other DAW. It's simply bug in S1. I switched to other DAW with same plugins, no problems. In my opinion S1 is still too buggy. To clunky and too unstable. I'll wait for version 5. Until then I try other DAWs.
Thanks for watching!
Tip 16: SSD HDD 2 or more drives :P less weight on one drive.
Thanks
Internal or external drive matter?
Anyone else have this experience?
Open a new empty project, and before even adding a single audio track, there’s already white noise and crackling. No tracks, no plugins. New MacBook Pro with minimum apps.
Turn all the knobs on my Audiobox USB 96 and all it does is increase or decrease the volume of the noise crackling.
People in forums mention using a USB 2.0 dongle, but I’ve seen Amazon reviews that doing that fried their MacBooks.
Can anyone help? Whoever can solve this problem will be a amazing.
I am really not sure. I recommend that you go to the Presonus user forum and post your question there. I am sure someone there can help. Thanks!
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy - I did. The most promising answers seem to be the ones involving getting a USB 2.0 dongle. I ordered one and will let you know if it works 👍🏼
He said "I dont know everything about everything studio one" yea thats laughable... You are even on Udemy I got a course... You are the man dont try and down play it XD
Thanks for the kind words
I bought a new mic… I wonder if it’s just my mic 😒
could be
Buy a separate computer for recording? or better yet don't use Presonus and buy Focusrite interface. It will be a lot cheaper than a new computer. Blame everyone and everything but Presonus.
Its not the interface that causes the issues typically but I appreciate you watching!
