  • Part 2: how to trace out your vacuum lines on most vehicles from the late 1970s through the 1980s and into the '90s. I chose this 1984 GMC Jimmy because it offers a complicated system covering all components of the vacuum system including the tip in vacuum switch, distributor, EFE, carburetor, air cleaner, temp sensor, vac motor, manifold vacuum source, EGR valve, EGR bleed solenoid, distributor delay valve, PCV valve, thermal vacuum switch, TVS, air pump, TCC, Auto Trans Lock-Up Torque Converter Switch, deceleration valve, cruise control and the vacuum canister (plus who doesn't love a square body).

    Kuddos for doin a vid like this! All the other vids I saw,were of people deleting these lines and components. I have an '86 Silverado that has a similar spiders web of lines that I ended up figuring out myself, because no one else, apparently, liked the same idea.lol. Keep up the good work!!😀👍

    my diverter valves on the "YKD" engine family 7.4l 454 take a larger diameter emission hose than the usual 1/8" inner diameter. And it also has one additional port of the usual 1/8 dia. wher as the rear diverter valve at the rear right bank has only the one larger port. And although similar to yours because of 1986, differs cause yours has a slightly varied connection diagram. Nice Viideo. And I love the name of your channel.

    I have an 84 CHEVY G30 motorhome with yhe 350 and california emmissions... I took all the hoses out because almost all have been dry rot. THAT WAS A YEAR AGO. I cannot get this thing hooked up right. All diagrams online are barely helpful and blurry, i dont know if a device is broken or if the vacuum lines are routed wrong.
    I wish I could just strip off all of the extra "emmissions" crap!
    Thank you for this video, it has been a tremendous help

    I agree, this was super helpful. You mentioned that you were also going to show how the cruise control is hooked up as well. Are you planning to do another video? I just purchased a 1985 Chevy K10. The guy before me put in a rebuilt motor and a Holley Carb, but didn't bother to hook anything up in the vacuum system or the cruise control. I have some conversations to have with Holley regarding adapter plates for the TV cable and accelerator cable, but your video gets me a long ways on everything else. Now i just need some help with the cruise control.

      @@MechanicLife hey Luke, I'm tracing mine and it's not quite right with how it was hooked up. I went to go put the second port that you said should go to a stainless line to the efe. my stainless line is gone.... can I just cap it?

    • @MechanicLife
      @MechanicLife  4 роки тому

      You can cap it, but here is whats happening. The EFE is a valve that closes when the engine is cold causing exhaust to move over the manifold. This causes it to heat up to evaporate fuel so it doesn't pool in the intake.

    Excellent video. Extremely helpful for the home mechanic. Are the 350 and the 305 the same. I have a 1885 Chevy K10 with a 305 that the last owner ripped almost every vacuum line off and I am trying to get running as I restore it to the factory settings. Do you know if someone make a complete kit that someone can buy to replace and restore all the vacuum/emissions hoses and valves? Thank you.

      @@MechanicLife that’s what I’ve been gathering and it was throwing me off. I was told by the original owner that the original 305 was replaced with a 350 which I never got to the bottom of but I’m assuming now the ESC was gutted. There are no signs of a smog pump ever existing, the vacuum lines to the EGR, and distributor advance were also plugged.

    Hello! I have a 1984 Chevy G20 van. I have a corroded valve in the vacuum system and need to replace it to get proper seal. Doesn’t look like i can send a photo in these comments. I can’t seem to find a replacement part online anywhere, and i don’t know what it’s actually called. It is threaded into the intake plenum and has three ports: the one on the top is a metal line that goes down to the transmission. That is the only one that is intact. The other two ports are facing the passenger side. The upper port on the side is completely corroded off and connects to nothing. The lower port has been “repaired” poorly and connects to a split going to the front of the engine and the carbs TVS valve. For what it’s worth it’s right by the distributor. It’s got 3/8-inch npt threading. Do you know the name of this part so I can find a replacement?

      Typically if you have that situation where the pedal goes to the floor your master cylinder is bad, you have a leak in your system or you have air in in the lines.
