The good advise given @ the 5:00 mark, makes up for the hickup given (a tad before) the 3:00 mark. Now if someone would make a bright & clear & short video on how to set the GD float using the pisspoor gauge every kit comes with, I might finish this hickup I volunteered to rebuild.
no one has shown me anything on them - its principles of carburetion just seem to click with me- i am amazed at the flex the carby has - see vid sweet revvin and hoon - both on a 253 cubic inch motor NO ADJUSTMENT DONE.... considering the carby was made for a 455 just backs up the wonderful flexibility of this carby
also if theere is a vac plug on the same side cjoke is on that would go to distributor instead of front one and when you adjust flaps u dont unhook vacuum hose you adjust fast idle screw this requires a flat tip and a star bit
thats an old carb, 70's or older, might want to mention that. My Q-Jet from my 82 Buick is much different, throttle position sensor and fuel mixture control selenoid for example, plus a whole slew of different vac lines.
@MrJesspatrick I think edelbrock bought the rights to them and make their own take on the Q-Jet but Q-Jets themselves are not really made anymore, just replacement parts but you can buy a brand new carb that looks acts and functions nearly exactly the same if you want new. no reason to, as an old one can be rebuilt unless someone hits it with a hammer.
Re the comments of the vac advance line..... The one I have pointed out is the controller, it is not rocket science... Under idle and light throttle that has little vacuum, up booting it, as the revs spool up it develops a firm vacuum, which advances the dizzy... Some cars use this line as a control signal to make manifold vacuum reach advance on dist... Proven on this by no vacuum on the port at idle, in WOT I his is drastically changed.

It's a 1705, a mid to late 70s Qjet. Yours is a 1708.
Is the port for the secondary’s the one on top where you have that black hose connected to?

what is the tube on the top/rear of carb used for?
What's the big square hole in the back for? Is that normally connected to the air cleaner?
All the cfm does it bring this carburetor? min and max.

What if you are getting hesitation and loss of power when you try to accelerate? Today I was driving I couldn't even go over 15-20 mph.
Maybe bogging down due to the secondaries air doors are not closing in a snapping manner.
