DIY Wireless Charger Install In Toyota Tacoma
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 сер 2024
- New Tacomas have wireless charging built in, so of course I didn't want to be left behind! So I installed my own wireless charger in my truck. It was a pretty easy process and only took about an hour or two to fully install. Make sure to test the circuits you are going to use and ensure that they only give power to the charger when the vehicle is turned on (such as the ACC circuit), that way your battery isn't ran down while the vehicle isn't running. Leave any questions in the comment section down below, and don't forget to subscribe!
*CORRECTION: Wireless charging has been around since 2012, the Lumia 920 had it, as well as the Nexus 4. My mistake*
HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED:
Wireless Charger:
www.amazon.com...
Add-A-Circuit:
www.amazon.com...
*The Add-A-Circuit should match the same type of fuse that you vehicle uses. The one linked above matched the 2005-2015 Toyota Tacoma, and maybe newer, but verify what type you have before you buy the Add-A-Circuit*
12V Power Socket:
www.amazon.com...
*You won't need the fuse included with the socket as you are already putting an extra fuse in with the add-a-circuit*
Car Charger (Anker):
www.amazon.com...
Extra Wire:

looks easy enough. Now I need to go buy a Tacoma.
I’ll trade you straight up for the Tesla
Braxen McConnell haha 😂
Hi whats inside I have a car channel and I would like to ask you if you could talk about my channel in your next video and put a link to my channel in the description.
😂😂😂😂
JerryRigEverything brought me here..like if u also are..
Been watching that guy for years!
Me to
sorry.....zackjerryrig brought me here xD we r not same ;/
idk how this is trending but it was not a bad vid.
You won't see me complaining! Thanks!
Trending because Jerryrigeverything posted it on Twitter.
Rudy Loera wrong, he posted about it after he was trending.
I don't own a Tacoma
I don't care about wireless charging
AND here I am
Curse of watching JerryRigEverything
Haha JerryRigEverything is legit! Been watching him for years! Either way, welcome!
impressive and innovating .as long as there is no glitches causing fires 🔥 👍
Thanks! The add-a-circuit fuse should prevent any electrical surges, and the car charger regulates that amperage going to the charging pad. That should prevent any fire causing hazards. It would be just like keeping a car charger plugged into a cigarette outlet.
Came here after seeing you on a few of Zacks videos. Now a subscriber!
Really cool project. I plan to do this with my first car!!
Thank you! It was a fun project to do. Hope it turns out well for you too!
@@BraxenMcConnell I hope it does too. You just got a keen new subscriber from this vid!!
Awesome! Thanks for the support!
Brilliantly pulled off.
I am inspired and will be doing it today.
Thanks a lot for the details and inspiration.
I hit that subscribe button because Zach told me to
JerryRigEverything brought me here
I’ve been watching him for years!
Braxen McConnell me too :)
Great video brother, FYI the add a circuit needs to be less than the original fuse, so fuse you tapped was 7.5 you should get a 5 amp fuse, the danger is that if it over heats because the original fuse is less than the 10 amp you put it, it may not blow. Just an FYI as it could potentially be a fire hazard. Once again though great video.
1443 views and #26 on trending? What?
TehVilly UA-cam algorithm is pretty fucked up

what wrong its a good video why hate?
Very good video. It is one of the tech videos I am probably gonna do myself. GJ
This is really cool. I may have to give it a try.
Nicely done!
Awesome mod, and awesome last name 😎
Haha hell yeah man! Not many with our last name out there
I would use a 5amp to feed the new circuit. Hot glue gun for QI charging case to Toyota plastic? One wrap of 2" vinyl tape for 12v to USB plug. Also run a second. USB cord and leave tucked up under neath the trim for future use. Great project. Be sure to use high speed QI wireless charging to future proof the mod.
The car charger that I used does have an extra port that I could use down the road, Just have to plug in a USB cord
Dope
Let’s put one in the ranger haha!
I only made it five minutes in before I was lost 😅 this is a project I will delegate to a man lol.
kind of want to do this in my car .
If I buy the wireless charger does it come with the Tacoma? That would be sweet 😂
Haha I heard you just have to request it in the “special instructions”
Have the 2016 model with the built in charger. The only negative is that the cubby hole is to wide when you put the phone down it moves
Brilliant job Braxen and very useful these days :-)
Sweet video. I just got all the parts in to do the install, although I'm not well versed in electric wiring. I was wondering if you could expand a bit more on how you are connecting the new power wire to the existing cigarette lighter wire, as well as how I attatch the grounding wire to the factory grounding point?
Yeah! So the power wire comes straight from the ACC fuse (that’s the point where I use the add-a-circuit) That power wire connects to the power wire of the new cigarette outlet. The ground that comes from the cigarette outlet just goes to any ground on the truck, I just used the one that was closest. You can use an eyelet connector or something like that to connect the ground. Does that help?
Ok, yea that makes sense. I noticed you linked 18 AWG wire, however, wouldn't it make sense to use 16 AWG to extend the wire behind the steering wheel since the add a fuse wire is 16 AWG and so is the new cigarette outlet (even though it looks bigger)?
Yeah, you could use 16 to match it up with the add-a-circuit and the cigarette outlet if you wanted to. There is a pretty small difference between 16 and 18, so you’ll be fine with either one, I think 18 was just what I had on hand, so I just searched that.
Oh alright fair enough. Thanks for the help man! I'm all set to wire it up now
I have no idea why I'm here but great Video buddy!
Haha welcome! And thanks!
Nice ,Very good idea, but you can just tap into your existing cigarette lighter just put in a 10 amp fusee to the other lighter holder, Thank for the Idea ,Will be a little project this weekend, added Alpine iLX-W650 last weekend, with, amps and speakers this will complete my Google Andriod connection.
Yeah, I thought about that, just didn’t want to overload anything. Doubtful that I would, I’m just overly cautious. Sounds like a good set up man!
Nice job on your video
Thanks! It was a fun project
great job
That's a great idea
Thanks! It’s still working great! No fires yet lol
Nice video
Great video! I'd been thinking about doing this for a while now. I have a 2006 Tacoma and a s6 edge plus. hah
I’ve loved it haha! It’s still going today :)
The Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 all had wireless charging built in long before the Samsung Galaxy S6. I'm sure there are others as well.
Correct, I was mistaken on that. Check the video description.
Great idea! Why didn't I think of that?
It’s never too late to put one in :)
Wow thats good...
Cool
gREAT VID - THANKS
Thank you! It was a fun project
Cool 👌
you should change your channel name to 2g taco modz. since no one is really dedicating a channel to the second gen wich oddly enough is what ive been looking for lol
Lol right? With as many videos as I have on stuff I’ve done to mine, it could be something like that
Braxen McConnell just a thought lol. Your installs are actually SUPER fucking clean and your editing skills are pretty good. You can shoot pretty damn good quality videos imo. Just a thought. But I do enjoy your videos!!!!
I m gonna but myself a car radio with 2 outlets usb ports. So that I can plug the wireless adapter safely in.
Haha are you saying my wiring job is unsafe?
how has that mod been? I have a 2nd gen, upgrading phones and was thinking about doing this mod, I haven't seen many videos on the subject so I was just curious how this has held up for you?
It’s held up great, it still works like the day I installed it
@@BraxenMcConnell THANK YOU!!!!
my wireless charger usually gets hot with charging so u think the double sided tape and the barebone strip of the charger be good with that?
Mine has been fine so far, it will get a little warm sometimes if it’s been charging the phone for a bit, but I haven’t had any issues yet
Is this still holding up? Thinking on trying it
Yeah, still works perfectly!
Braxen McConnell thanks man!
Wyh did you connect that wireles charger to fuse box if you still toke Electric current from sicaret lighter and had that usb cord in it answer me thx
The cigarette outlet draws power from the fuse panel.
Hola. Saludos vengo por Zack :)
Pues bienvenido! Me suene que debo Zack mis gracias! Es un buen amigo mio :)
Does circuit heating during charging the phone ? Does not melt the plastic ?
It does get warmer, but not hot enough to melt the plastic. It still looks just like it did when I installed it
@@BraxenMcConnell Thank You!
Galaxy 6 was the first?! Do your research. My Nexus 4 had it.
You’re right, I tried to look it up, but must have missed that. I’ll put a note in the video, thanks!
Which year model is your tacoma
It’s a 2009. This should work for any second gen Tacoma though.
How its holding on Still working?
Yeah it still works! The 3M tape has worked perfect for keeping it in place. I don’t use it all the time since wireless charging is a little slower than wired, but if I don’t need a quick charge, I put my phone there all the time!
@@BraxenMcConnell ok excellent have the same idea on my taco
It was super easy to do, and you’d never know it was there. So I’d recommend it. Let me know how it turns out!
@@BraxenMcConnell ok I will
Wasn’t miniladd hit by a Toyota Tacoma 🤔
I bet what he edited on he just discoverd how to add arrows in his video then he used it
Why do you need the cigarette lighter? I'm kinda a moron but I do want this capability. You got power coming out of that and a circuit into a fuse why not straight out of the fuse configuration right in to the charger? And I missing something? Also if it were me I'd have that thing always powered. It's never going to be enough to draw too much on the battery, in fact I'm wondering if those things even draw at all without a phone sitting on top of that? And thirdly if you do want that thing powered only in certain circumstances, why not have it in an always hot fuse slot, then into one of the empty rocker switches on the council under the heater in 1 of those empty rocker slots there's your switch then run it into the charger itself put it back together, then your only charging when you flip that rocker switch? Plus they make funny switches like ejection seat or stun gun or rocket propulsion. Lol they make several of those funny ones!
Wooow 👏👏👏👏👏👍👌
Why is a video from last year trending?
What was the cost for you on this project?
Kinda depends on what wireless charger you get, but with the parts I have listed in the description, it would only be about $40-$50. Pretty cheap.
Thanks for the reply I think that you can probably get it even cheaper now. Just have to wait for the parts to arrive once ordered. I have a 2013 Tacoma Pre '16 with the Qi chargers. Oh well. Putting this mod on my things to do list. 👍
I also thought of a solve for this problem.
Get a cord.
P
That is a lot of faith burying that much ghetto electronics on top of your airbag control module. Other downside is you can't even see or use phone while it charges in that location.
Dumb
Well you probably shouldn’t be using your phone while you’re driving anyway, but to each their own 👍🏼
Relocating next to the single cup holder would have solved both problems. just sayin...
I thought about that, but that creates a different set of problems. Yes you could see notifications, but every turn you take sends your phone sliding in a different direction. Plus, a phone only charges wirelessly while it’s on the pad. So even if you get a notification, you would have to remove your phone from the charging pad, thus stopping the charge, just to look at the notification. So it almost defeats the purpose of using the charger because it’s just on and off the whole time, and since wireless charging is so much slower than wired, you’d probably end up losing battery throughout your drive. Sure, I could put a rubber mat or something down to stop it from sliding, but I wanted an OEM look, so slapping a ghetto looking rubber mat on top wasn’t what I wanted. The plastic by the single cup holder is also thicker. So it would have been harder to cut down, and the phone would have a harder time picking up the charging signals being emitted by the wireless charging pad. Especially with a case on it. So I went with the option that suited my project best. And that was putting it where the plastic was thinner, and it could be completely hidden. That way if I removed it down the line, there wouldn’t be any evidence of it there. Also, all the “ghetto electronics” you’re referring to, are actually in front of the air bag control module, not on top of.
Samsung did it first and does it better. There I said it...
Samsung=wireless charging first + fast charging.
Apple=wireless charging...
Yup, Samsung definitely takes the win
Hmm...I believe I may have just stumbled upon some bias.
How tf is this on trending .-.
Or you can just buy a samsung????
That wouldn't give my truck wireless charging... I'd still have to wire up the charger to have it in my truck
Why tf is this on trending again? 😑
