- Decided to do a Tacoma charging station test. I have a compatible phone now so I wanted to see how it works. Is it just hype or does it actually do the job? Let's see...

I like the wireless charging in the Tacoma. Food for thought, I use an Otter Box defender series case. I use that because it has backing that works well with the rubberish material on the wireless pad. I have had other cases and the phone slides all around. The charging light then will go in and out it is a real pain! If you don’t have a stable case every turn you make in your truck it will move around and be useless!
Good tip. I prefer as thin and sleek of case as possible. Since I have a metal plate on the back of mine..the charger probably won’t see much use.

Charging works with a case. That plate is interfering. I love mine. Always on. And just throw the phone in and off I go. Doesn't charge all that fast but keeps me from losing battery if low.
Yeah, mine worked without the case. Just a pain to have to take it in and out all the time🤔
@@RobMotive well you have a decision to make haha, is it worth having magnetic mount or wireless charging lol. Or just have two cases?
Fit me, the mount is most important. I’ll use the pad if I’m ever in a bind and need some juice👍

I have an iPhone 6 Plus. It does not have wireless charging, so I purchased a thin case that does. I toss my phone on the charging station while heading to or from work. About a 40 minute trip. I rarely, rarely ever have to use a cable to charge. Wireless just seems to work well for me.

U need to place the metal plate on the lower portion on the phone because its blocking or interfering with the Receiver coil to the transmitter coil on ya wireless charger

Interesting. I don't understand wireless charging. It takes less time to plug it in than to take the case off and put it back on!
Lol!! I guess it’s just the convenience of not having to mess with a cord and just throw it on the pad and push a button 😁
There’s cases that are compatible with wireless charging.
My issue is the metal plate to be able to use my holder🤔

You could use two flat metal strips in the back skinny enough and you should be able to charge the phone with a case and those metal strips. If you do Nillkin makes wireless charging vent mounts and those come with a "U" shaped metal plates or metal strips depending on what model you purchase and you will be able to charge wirelessly with a case and those metal strips/"U" shaped plates.
For my setup, the metal plate has to be in the center of the case to hold on the magnetic base. Not a bad idea though👍
I have a wireless charger for my phone and it does work with the case on. I’ve never had a metal plate on my phone though.

Get a better case. They are cheap. It WILL charge through a thin case. Now that you have an Android you can also use your HOTSPOT while driving and the charger keeps that from running your battery down. Over time it WILL get hot and that is a problem. My BMW's had a small vent in the console that keeps the contents of the console cool. Toyota should do the same over that pad. I use it ALL the time.
I like the wireless charger but disappointed it is not a fast charger and charges slowly. Also when I have Spotify on and put it on the charger my phone locks up and spotify does not work. It seems there is some sort of glitch there which is disappointing.
That’s a drag! I hadn’t heard of it causing glitches 🤔

Mine doesn't work good, it get my phone hot and take forever to charge. Barely keeps my phone with the same charge and if it charges it only increases like 4% after an hour.

My Tacoma is a 2019 and it has the charging pad! I bought an iPhone 13 and use an Otter Box cover. I’ve tried everything and with the Otter Box on the phone the pad won’t charge, no matter what I do! Oddly my daughter has a 2022 Lexus and when I put my phone with the Otter Box on her pad, it charges like a champ! Way to go Toyota! 👎🏽

I bought a charging station from Verizon for the I phone but like you I have a metal case and wouldn’t work for me. So still plug and charging.
Yup! It’s a trade off I think. Unfortunately have to pick which is most important to you. I’m sticking with my metal plate for the holder👍

@@RobMotive I'm thinking my phone is too old or something I have to activate. I'll talk to the dealership, I cant get the GPS to work either because my phone isn't able to download the app, guess its time to upgrade

If it has wireless charging capability I don’t see why not.
Slow as hell
I will tell you that my phone will stay at its current battery percentage on short trips and may charge 5-10% on a longer trip. It’s nothing to brag about. Mostly hype.
