A bit of the preview build-up to the 1985 FA Cup Final between Manchester United and Everton on Saturday 18th May 1985 with a look at how the Red Devils are preparing.
I remember this team. In fact they were doing great at the start of the 1984-85 season. But when some players got injured, the team fell down in rank. At the end of the season the players came back, their injuries passed, they moved on the FA cup. They won with 10 men after Moran got a red card the final against the great Everton team. These are the days!
United should really have won the league the following season (1985/86).They won their first ten league games and I think they went unbeaten for fifteen games.But a shoulder injury to Bryan Robson(they relied on Robbo far too much then), Mark Hughes unsettled by a proposed move to Barcelona, when the truth was he didn’t want to leave,and players that came in that didn’t live up to expectations (Barnes,Gibson,Davenport), seemed to derail the chance they had to win the league.Alan Hansen himself said that the Liverpool team he played in that won the double that season WASN’T the best he played in, so the chance for United to win the title was there.
@DerekHarrison-ue9vv 11th match...1-1 draw on Lutons plastic pitch. Never forgiven them for ending that run. Strachan got injured too, away at West Brom.
FA Cup used to be a full day in front of the TV.

We drew our first 4 games in 1984-85 so it wasn't exactly a flying start.

Big Rons United was great to watch. No expectations apart from hopefully a cup run...simpler times before the impatient glory boys joined.
