@@leonbarnes1402 Sorry Sir, There are a good deal of sponsors and they all have different policies. The added level of complication made us decided against it.
@@RedBeardOps no worries, just a shame.
All around great video James. The editing was great and I do like the quiet music in the background.
Glad you enjoyed it, Cole! That is considered "Lounge / R&B / Hip Hop"... lol Have a great one
Nice , was glade to see Canada included.
Definitely going to try and make one up.
Good luck with your build! Cheers
Great build. Love the in depth explanation as you build.
Thanks JP!
You did a much better job explaining the competition then I did! 🤦🏻♂️
All gravy my man, we'll get the word out! Cheers
An absolute AWESOME idea...I can't wait to see the submissions from viewers.
Thank You to ALL who donated !!!!
Being a new maker this is invaluable.
Good luck with your build Jeffrey! Cheers
Good luck makers! I don't fit the competition criteria but I might download that file and make one anyway...it's a nice looking knife.
You should! Cheers my friend
Well dang, I guess I need to put the pedal to the metal and get my forge finished soon.
Get rolling! LOL
@@RedBeardOps hopefully this weekend.
I’m 13 and exited to do my best and thx for the great videos
AWESOME! Good luck!
In Kyle Royer's video, he completely changed the shape of the profile. Is that allowed?
I envision us all building the same knife in a build along. More or less. We're trying not to be too rigid. Just have fun with it! For my build I stuck with the design as drawn.
@@RedBeardOps I guess I will, too. Because otherwise, we're not really all making the same knife.
@@philochristos you sure you wanna do that?
What a neat idea. I'll wait for you following video. At around the 4:20 point you mentioned GOSO fasteners? Are they similar to Chicago screws?
Hey Brad, video 2 is out! Also they're "Gulso Fasteners" ... seem to be nicer than Chicago screws.
That's cool. I want to participate but I don't have the tools yet. I just bought the 2x72 belt grinder and it is going to be delivered tomorrow. I went to Harber freight to buy the Bauer portable band saw that I ask your option on the last video, but they were out of them. I'm can't wait to get started. Stay awesome.
Hey Adam, not many tools needed! Check out Cole's build along video here - ua-cam.com/video/REqEC8x80Kk/v-deo.html - He's using hand files!
@@RedBeardOps You are absolutely right. The reason I'm waiting for power tools is, I have already worn out my joints from heavy power lifting in the past. Also, I work in industrial maintenance for my day job. For me power tools help me as I get older to not hurt myself with repetitive work. I will start making knives very soon. Stay awesome.
Are you guys going to do a build along this year?
Good question! I don't think we'll be able to sneak one in this year; maybe 2024!
Nice job. Red beard I’m watching your videos from Guatemala
Awesome! Thank you!
what are you making at 6:52? what bit are you using to drill at 7:01?
I was reducing the length of the fasteners.

Glad you like it! Simple was the goal! Good luck with your build sir
Can we still win the competition if we make the knife with damascus or san mai?
of course. Use whatever knife steel you'd like! Cheers
1st time viewer i follow some of the others but enjoyed ur video and now following. Ps urr shop is so clean nice looking great job on that
Awesome thank you sir! Glad to have you onboard. Good luck with the build!
So do we have till midnight the 27th to submit pics?
That's right
Awesome idea and I’m a novice maker since just starting and do not own a 2x72 yet so where are the printable plans for this knife build so I can print off and start this amazing opportunity
Hey Vincent, check out the top comment and/or the video description. Cheers!
Hi, where do you buy those gulso bolts?

@@RedBeardOps Thanks!
Will this be open worldwide?? I’m a newbie living in New Zealand.
Hey man, the comp is defiantly open, but the prices are limited to the USA. The suppliers will be shipping direct and most of them won't ship internationally. We hit the easy button, sorry about that. Hope you still make one!
@@RedBeardOps yea I’ll still make one🤙
Congrats it looks good
Cheers!
I went to the patreon link and couldn't find the plans. Do I have to be a Patreon member /contributer or am I missing something. Do I have to order the 1084 from alpha knife supply. Sorry I just had an opportunity to finally check out the details and am extremely limited by not only my equipment but the fact that I(try) to make my knives out of my apt that is in a 4 plex unit so needless to say someone is always sleeping or I'm always bothering someone so I have to take advantage of any and all opportunity to get ahead hence my urgency.
You do not need to be a member. It's at the bottom of the post. CAD files and PDF. You can use whatever steel you want. Sorry for my delay responding!
Is the novice category less than 1 year or no grinder? This will be my first or second knife ever but I have a 1x30
Just 2x72 high end grinders was the thought. It's really going to be on a case by case basis. Please include "why you're in the novice category" in your email. Good luck with your build Ben!
So for novice, no belt grinders of any kind or just 2x72?
Just 2x72. It's really going to be on a case by case basis. Please include "why you're in the novice category" in your email. Good luck with your build Jesse!
@@RedBeardOps thanks for the quick answer! Can’t wait!
Do I need to make a video of my build?
Nope, just send a good picture to the email in the description. Cheers
What all do I need to do before I submit my entry? I subscribed to all the channels but anything else?
@@tysonpeterson2678 Nope that's it! Cheers
I’m in!!!
Heck yeah, good luck with your build!
So, I thought we had to make the exact knife pattern that you supplied, but Kyle made his own pattern, can the viewers make their own pattern?
I envision us all building the same knife in a build along. More or less. We're trying not to be too rigid. Just have fun with it! For my build I stuck with the design as drawn.
Worldwide contest?😊
Hey Neo, I think that will work, but we'd likely ask you to pay the shipping cost from the vendors. If not acceptable, we'd go to the next person in line.
@@RedBeardOps thanks! Just started on my third knife using a filejig setup. This sounds like some good fun! I think i will join in on this😊👌🏻
@@neofax Have fun with your build!
Hey man, we talked it over.... we're only going to award the prize to USA individuals for shipping. We have many sponsors and they all likely don't want to ship over seas. We still encourage your participation though! sorry about that!
Im a 13yr with less than 5 months experience 😂
But maybe if I have time I'll give this challenge a go
(Im not from the US but so i know I won't get anything but I'll just do it for fun and if possible also send a photo of it to you guys?)
Heck yeah! Please have fun with it and send a photo! I'm sure we'll do a viewer's knives montage. Good luck with your build!
@@RedBeardOps thx man😁👍
So I would NOT be considered a novice even though I’ve been making knives for less than a year but I have a 2x72? And what about people that have more than a year’s experience but use a 1x30 instead? And if you’re not in the states you can enter but you can’t win the prize? How is that fair?
Many of our suppliers won't be shipping internationally. Sorry about that Ian. On the novice vs advanced, we're really going to be taking it at a case by case level, so if you do decided to make one write a comment on what category you think you fit in and why. We're doing this challenge for fun, so please have fun with it! Cheers
can someone from the uk enter
Hey Shaun, you're more than free to enter, but our suppliers won't be shipping outside of the USA. Sorry about that
Awesome deffietly gonna give er a go eh but so lame Canadians are excluded mang
Good luck with the build Miles! Yeah, sorry about that; with the number of sponsors we had it was easier to keep it domestic.
first
Nice work!
I don’t really have the spare time at the moment but what the heck, I’m in!!!
Heck yeah Craig! Good luck with your build! If you look at Royer's video he proved it could be done in 2 days! LOL
@@RedBeardOps yea I don’t think it’ll happen in two days for me, he’s built a lil different!! 😆
Very nice man! Great explanations too!
Appreciate it!
Thanks for putting this together, some of my favorite channels! gonna get started this weekend
Heck yeah! Good luck with your build sir!
Got my blade cut out earlier and heat treated. It is baking right now. 1st time making a knife from stock. I have put handles on a few kit knives before. Now to get my 2x72 completed tomorrow so I can grind instead of hand filing.
Heck yeah Scott! Good luck!
👏👏👏
Good Morning. Could you Please send a link for the bits you used to counter sink the handle material. thanks

5/32'' & 3/16'' (3103A12 & 3103A13) Pilots - www.mcmaster.com/counterbore-pilots
How do you go about interning and how do I get the plans without being a Patrion member? Thanks.
You don't need to be a member for the patron link. It's free. To enter, just make the knife and send an email with the best picture of it. Along with a brief description of what category you should be in and why.
Do you design your knife prints or do you get them online?
I draw them by and and also in CAD (nanCAD is free... as well as Fusion 360)
Are there any photo criteria for the knives?
nope, just take your best shot and send it in. Cheers Adrian!
So I started making knives this spring, but I have a grinder. Am I a novice or no?
Hey Will, we plan on taking it on a case by case basis. Please provide info on your set-up and experience in the email you send the knife pic in. Cheers man! Good luck with the build!

@@RedBeardOps thank you! I love your channel and have made quite of few tools from your videos ^_^
@Red Beard Ops I'd love to enter this, but since I'm not in the USA, I really don't see any point in me competing..unless I misunderstood the rules???..are the prizes only for USA???...does it have to be stock removal from 1084???..can the pattern be modified???
It can be any steel, doesn't have to be stock removal, and sorry about the US prizes. Comes down to shipping complications. Hope you still build along for fun! Cheers
@@RedBeardOps 2 of the prizes are virtual, and one of the sponsors is even Canadian, so I don't understand the issues...if it's an issue with customs and international shipping being more than domestic, I'm pretty sure the winners would pay the extra for international shipping..I would
@@jamesafseth326 Sorry James, that's our decision.
@@RedBeardOps well maybe, if you're opening up a competition, worldwide, you might want to ask the sponsors if they ship internationally, or at least have separate prizes for out of country...I think it's particularly rude to have a sponsor from my country, but nobody from my country is allowed to enter (or at least not allowed to win)...you're excluding a huge part of the knifemaking community!
@@jamesafseth326 sorry you feel that way sir. Our decision is final on this one.
I noticed Kyle modified the design. I was wondering if that's ok, or if we should stick as close to it as possible? Also everyone used 1084, is there any reason I can't make my own Damascus for the build?
I envision us all building the same knife in a build along. More or less. We're trying not to be too rigid. Just have fun with it! For my build I stuck with the design as drawn. No steel selection rules at all.
Can't enter as I'm an Aussie but this looks like fun, I might have a closer look :) Good Luck all who enter those prizes look pretty sweet. Good on the suppliers for getting behind this :)
Thank you greatly sir! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Count me in! I have tweaked the knife design a bit, but my design is based on the drawing provided. I am excited to participate and plan to get started on this today!
Good luck with your Build Carl! Cheers!
I'm pretty sure I'd easily fit into the novice category. I've been making knives officially, I believe just barely under a year, and I only have a 1x30, and a 4x36 that I use to make them.
Just to be clear we are all trying to make the template knife? Are we trying to put our own spin on things or just trying to copy it exactly?
I envision us all building the same knife in a build along. More or less. We're trying not to be too rigid. Just have fun with it! For my build I stuck with the design as drawn. Nothing wrong with your own spin! -- We plan on taking it on a case by case basis so please provide info on your set-up and experience in the email you send the knife pic in. Cheers man! Good luck with the build!
@@RedBeardOps it definitely sounds like a fun contest. I'll see what I can do. Thanks!
@@RedBeardOps I feel like I should clarify what I was asking. When I said put our own touches on it. I mean, like choose our own handle material, or blade finished etc. But it be the same knife in the plans essentially
