On the strength of my experience with your primary channel, I subscribed to this one. The intro video did not disappoint. Indeed, like nearly all your other videos, it was a delight. I hold dual degrees in Electronics and Electrical Engineering Technology (pretty much everything from 0.7 volts dc to 480 vac). In retirement, I have maintained my credentials with a small service bureau that does design and prototyping. Many of my personal projects (for the fun of it) have been microcontroller integration projects. All that said, I look forward to whatever you manage to get out there!
@@CCCfeinman55 Thank you greatly Cuck! I'm glad to have you on board. That other channel will be fun to use as a space to branch out a little. Have a great week, sir!
James!!! So glad your back at it. Another excellent video my friend. You have such a knack for keeping a good pace and providing heaps of information at the same time. Seriously man, you’re good at this. Thank you for making another excellent video for us! 👍
Beautiful knife! You should do a show on just your equipment. Going over each machine or tool explaining the advantages of each and why you think it’s the best choice. Knife making can be a hobby, business or just therapeutic in these crazy times we’re living in. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I know nothing about making knives and Im not handy like this, but I love your videos because everything is explained....even though it's foreign to me LOL....Great vid fella, glad yer back and cant wait for more! 💯👍🙏
enjoyed the video especially where i picked up little points that you throw out such as the small clamps for gluing your liners to the handle scale. I like the voice over approach since there is no distracting noise and you explain each step as you go along in comparison to showing the video and talking in real time as it goes on.
Man, I really admire your work. Thank you for making this content available to people who want to learn these processes. I'm a beginner in cutlery and I always come back here to see your videos. Greetings from Brazil, thank you.
The resperator with the full face mask is really ideal because you have protection from sparks and flying metal as well as the breathing protection. I would be curious if it fogs up much especially if you are working in a cold garage.
Dude not at all! It's amazing... It doesn't fog since the air is passing over your face and onto the inside of the shield. It will start to fog if you turn off the power pack
That 3m hood has been one of the best purchases I've made for my shop. I almost had to shut down my wood shop because my respirators were not cutting it and it was messing up my lungs. Now I'm out there every day without an issue!!
Heck yeah man! Every once an a while with the old ones, I'd blow my nose and get back some garbage... Got tired of that. To be fair, a good deal of it was user error. Comfort goes a long way.
Besides a rotary rubber belt platen that gets rid of the " belt seem bump " there is always a Soft flat platen made from a scotchbrite belt section glued on to a normal metal platen plate then a piece of thickish leather glued on to the scotchbrite..making a soft flat platen that soaks up the belt bump..
Might be the most attractive shape you’ve built (saying a lot because you’ve made a lot of great knives). The drop point and finger guard are really nicely balanced. Would love to see it stone washed with black scales, green liners and a sweet kydex sheath.
Very, very nice! I always enjoy these and have the added advantage of learning something new from your experience. Best wishes building and settling in to your new shop. It will watching the come together.
More than excellent build. Your skills and attention to the details is amazing! Really appreciate your detailed narrative(s) as to what you’re doing and why. I enjoy knowing the “why” for materials and processes, so hopefully when I try to complete a project I don’t mess it up at the end (biggest fear). Thank you! Keep up the great work!
Welcome Back!! Great knife & great build video. THANK YOU for the detailed discussion as you go along - Really helps us newbies! The double liners really set the handle off.
Great Vid as always :), Nice Blade, for someone out of practice it came up kinda sweet :) Looking forward to the new channel and content, seeing the shop build would be good, how you intend to lay it out etc. Also hoping for more knife vids as well, of course :)
Great to see you back! Those don’t look like Permian basin trees. Would I be close if I said they looked like trees you would find closer to the DFW/weatherford area?
just found your channel and just starting into knife making. i'm at the stage of assembling knife kits, pretty basic stuff! i guess the next basic step is shaping and heat treating raw steel. your videos have made this big step look far less daunting!
Mate, I hope you don't have neighbours that blab about that interesting work shop when you open those garage doors. You Sir have a unique mind...I've been told the same. You've built or had help now doubt at a cost to make all you magnificent Tooling idea's come to life. I often have to weld deposits at 4 thou pitches. Yep. The thickness of the human hair. I want that respiratory system you have. I'll be making some of the items you've displayed and unlike some..I'll be saying who designed the one I've made from what I've seen. How many knives does one need? Unless your doing for others or with another or 5. My passion is in carving upon scales. Carving upon or into bone. But you sir are a true inspiration with clear and succinct advice to do one's own build. I'm subbing to you asap. Keep up those tired sharpening hand skills !!! Truelove awesome. Buster, from Down Under.
Awesome man! I have that exact versaflo fresh air system... the battery goes dead pretty quick, which you think it wouldn't because of the size of it. Weird that they make you use the Allen screw to take the battery off but other than the battery issue it's really nice when it's hot you get nice cool air in your face.
I just watched your DIY surface grinding attachment video and before I got to the end of this video I'm wondering. Could you achieve the same level of trueness with your milling machine as you can with your surface grinding attachment?
It get's pretty finiky to set up flat bars like that. Clamping would be tough. I'm sure it's possible with enough effort, but the SGA is a pretty easy solution. Cheers!
Very cool! However i'd like to know where did that flexible movable plastic dust collection pipe that has funnel on top came from. It would work out super good for me if i could find something like that. Thanks a ton for all the work you put into those videos.
As a Brother RED BEARD I truly enjoy your out loud thought process. I do have a question for you about your makers mark. What are the dimensions and do you have different sizes for different size blades??? Keep up the GREAT WORK and stay safe!!!
I have thought about getting one of those fancy respirators. My only concern is with the face shield becoming cloudy and how much it will cost to replace it. I change out my goggles all the time. They become cloudy as a result of protecting my eyes from metal particles and stuff.
Hey Sam, the face shield comes with a peal and stick cover. They're replaceable for this reason. I've been super happy with mine. Here are the covers for reference - amzn.to/3SU46Iy
