- John Sheahan and Barney McKenna play the Mason's Apron. This is taken from The Dubliners Live in Knokke, Belgium and was the first colour TV broadcast in Ireland.
They make it look so easy , they likes wee will never see again They were the glory days of brilliant music
My Grandfather, Patrick Shanley, from Raheny in Dublin, taught Barney McKenna how to play this tune.
My Grandfather played the accordion and Barney would visit the house to learn the tune.
God Bless you Granda Father ❤️ Never forgotten..
Hi Paul
We love to hear stories like this!
I'm a Raheny man myself and new to the banjo so that's nice to hear
Wow that’s incredible
Each of those instruments and the way they play them reflects on their own personality
So much fun to listen too! I won't lie....I tried dancing💃💃💃 a bit to....almost tripped over the dog🤣🤣🤣...better just sit and clap my hands instead.😉😉😉
Doesn't matter just move something! It's Irish
This is the kind of music to brighten the gloomiest of days
agreed played by the best flidder in ireland
Pretty interesting how you can see that this can morph into country music. Love it!
John Sheahan is a big fan of Bluegrass.
I love Barney so much. Such great performer
That is one in-depth piece of music with character ripping out of the seems,🍀❤️👍😘
This is one of the best versions I've heard
Give Stockton's Wing a listen.
@@johnmcgahern3946 Ok. They might've made the best version
@@johnmcgahern3946 Ah, seriously, now.
This a great performance of the classic Sean Maguire variations, few can pull it off.
Aly Bain and The Boys of the Lough have a wild version.
I love John’s shirt. Miss these guys!
Gratest folk band evere
Love a bit of Irish music XXX
Wonderful musicians, a joy to listen to !

Pura poesia! I fantastici meravigliosi Dubliners! The best!
Sheahan is pretty handy, Barney, is too. Sheahan tells a story about his first week with the band as a pro, having quit a 9-5 job. Barney and Ronnie got into a first fight. He was worried about what he had gotten into. But Bobby Lynch told John not to worry. "They do that every other week ". ;)
John Sheahan making a superb job of the Sean McGuire variations of the "Mason's Apron". A classic..!! 👍
Ben
Maguire❤️❤️
Splendide. Deux grands artistes
a pure masterclass by john here
very very well.............................................................
Great stuff from them old fellas!
Brilliant of course - thank you so much for posting!
Two wonderful musicians, often looked down upon by the trad music purists but they and the rest of the Dubliners brought the old music to the people, they reinvigorated the old tunes and ballads and paved the way for the fantastic following that trad music has today. We will forever be indebted to them!
Nicely said. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Truly spectacular!
The first color TV broadcast in Ireland...

Simply good - carry on, boys!!! 🇵🇱♍👍 Off to Dublin in the green, in the green, where the helmets glisten in the sun; where the bayonets flash and the rifles crash to the rattle of a Schmeisser (Thompson) gun! 😁
I mean, who is disliking this? They should be found and banned from using the internet forever!!
That speed at the end
Gràcies
Barneyyyyyyy
There's a brilliant electric version on Thin Lizzy's album 'Black Rose'.
The guitar solo on Black Rose is fantastic, but it really doesn't feature The Mason's Apron, despite the credits on the album. Pat McManus - who can play Black Rose on guitar and this version of The Mason's Apron on guitar - will tell you this also.
Gooo Barneyyy
Roots of Bluegrass!
the best
Brillant
Sounds like the early Cape Breton style.
If anyone can't see Bluegrass rockabilly everything rock in the US came straight from this from these islands they must be dull indeed
John Sheahan has always been a big fan of Bluegrass. Luke Kelly used to tease him calling it "cowboy music".
Love This but prefer the 8 min version .
Which one? Got a link?
Me, Iris folk songs grube fore ewer Thanks EZiska Faroes freind. Dont foreget Luke. Kelly as well.
Beautiful Song Dear God Con Horan Newbridge Kildare
Behold mastery.
you can see barney playing befor his part and the mic is off, then he just stops
He was just practicing the left hand to get the notes and rhythm
Uber happy ye was in the bacon n eggs when a shuffled.... 💕💕💕💕💕
I come from county Kerry the land of eggs and bacon , if ya think I’ll eat your fish’n’chips , by Jaysus you’re mistaken 🍀
Shame the audience don't recognise genius when they see it!
He was a total fake! He didn't even play fiddle.... its just a trick that he does by wiggling the whiskers of his beard together to produce the sound. No talent.
You’re just jealous
