  • In this special episode of the route learning series, we take a journey on the GWR network covering a full length run between Penzance in Cornwall and London Paddington station in a Class 800 bi-mode unit - around 305 miles in 5 hours! Representing around 40-hours of work to put together, I really hope you enjoy this episode.
    For this video, I custom created three scenarios on three different routes, editing it all together into one video. Please see below for the list of routes and DLC used, and where to purchase or download them. We follow the real life timetable of train 1A80, the 08:15 Great Western Railway departure from Penzance.
    Stops along this journey include, St Erth (18:24), Camborne (28:18), Redruth (33:44) Truro (45:00), St Austell (1:00:48), Par (1:07:00), Bodmin Parkway (1:17:23), Liskeard (1:29:29), Plymouth (1:55:35), Totnes (2:21:30), Newton Abbot (2:33:48), Exeter St David's (2:53:51), Tiverton Parkway (3:07:51), Taunton (3:19:43), Reading (4:35:59), and London Paddington.

    Notes for this video:
    1. Apologies if you can hear a slight "thumping" sound during the video introduction; I had my fan on and didn't realise it was blowing slightly towards the microphone at the time!
    2. I realise that I forgot to mention in the introduction the setting up of the Driver Safety Device (DSD) by pressing CTRL + D. I also forgot to mention the destination display, which was set up using the F8 key.
    3. I have captioned in all crossings, tunnels, and junctions found in my UK railway track atlas. Some crossings appear in the game that don't appear in my book, and vice versa. Hence you will see some crossings without a caption.
    4. As always, I sounded the horn at every W post I noticed - but some got missed, usually when looking down at my notes rather than at the track ahead!
    5. Unfortunately, on the Great Western Main Line from Reading to Paddington the frame rate isn't as good as on the rest of the route so you will see some lag. This is unavoidable due to the level of AI traffic on that section of the route, and the number of assets used in the route building process.
    6. The stop markers at Exeter St David's don't quite match between the two routes where I switch scenarios, so the train appears to jump forward a bit towards the end of the platform when I load the next scenario.
    7. Please see the video description for my PC specs and the DLC used in this video - excluding the trains used in the AI traffic.
    8. You can find a full copy of the notes used on this journey on my Facebook page - facebook.com/PTGRail - with some typos!
    9. I have added the times in the video for all of the stops, which you can find in the video description. This makes it easier to find a particular stop or section of the journey,
    10. Finally, I hope you enjoy this video! I know it's crazy long and I'd never expect anyone to watch it all in one sitting. This video represents around 40-hours of work to put together, and I hope it shows in the quality of the production.

    Currently flying from Johannesburg to Heathrow in flight sim with about 6 hours remaining, so what a lucky coincidence I just found this! Looks like I have something to watch until I land. Also, I've been super, super excited to watch this one! As someone who has watched your entire ECML video twice now, I'm super excited to watch this one. Also, well done on making this one too. I know it must take a lot of work to make these extra long videos, but it's definitely worth it if you ask me! :D
    Edit: Just finished watching it, and it was as enjoyable as I was hoping for! Well done on doing such a long video, and I can't wait to see the next, but I think it goes without saying that you definitely deserve a break after that one first. XD

    Okay, so get this: My nan's on this train, right? And after they roll out of Werris Creek (australia), things start getting a tad intense. It's like the train's suddenly possessed, zooming down the straights. We're not talking a quick sprint; this thing is keeping up a solid 160km/h - and it's not just for a quick thrill, this speed's hanging around like an unwelcome guest.
    The staff are doing this frantic relay race in and out of the cab, pretty much begging the driver to put the brakes on, at least a little. You can just picture their faces, all wide-eyed and probably thinking, "This ain't part of the job description!" And the train? It's swaying and rocking like it's grooving to its own crazy rhythm, except nobody on board feels like dancing.
    Let me just switch to a calmer tone for a sec: The tracks where they were at can handle trains speeding up to 160km/h, so technically, he wasn't breaking the laws of physics or anything. But it's like he was testing the limits just because he could.
    Now, here's where it gets a bit more serious. Once you're heading north of Maitland, there's this strict 120km/h limit because of the level crossings - safety first, after all. And I've heard of drivers occasionally pushing maybe 5-10km/h over to make up some time, especially if they're running behind schedule. But this guy? He was absolutely smashing that, way beyond the usual 'making up time' speed. It makes you think, doesn't it? Quite the nail-biter of a trip for my nan, and honestly, a bit too much excitement for my liking!

    Any chance in doing the same for the West Coast Main Line, but instead of with the current rolling stock (Pendalios?), using the legendary (or infamous) Advanced Passenger Train APT-P that you used in your popular 'Preston to Carlisle' route video. I don't suppose it could also used the APT's faster-running speed limit system, maybe even a chance to 'break' its own record in real life from Euston to Glasgow run? :-)

    @ajax046 Рік тому

    Totnes. A green signal at E1R means you are routed through the main lines. That is, you’re not platformed. Now on a stopping service, that’s tea and biscuits! The real sequence is a flashing yellow where you have the route set into the platform E1 signal will be displaying a single yellow with route indicator 1 lit. Or a single yellow at E1R with a red a E1 protecting the station. If routed into the platform this signal will clear with the junction indicator 1 illuminated.
    The signalling sequence on your video is for trains not stopping at the station. It’s odd that a “simulator” makes up the signal sequence as opposed to simulate what really happens.
    Normal braking point for Totnes is the 3 arch bridge before E1 to give a smooth deceleration. Brakes on modern traction are good, but you wouldn’t want to leave it as late as sighting E1 to come down to 25, especially in leaf fall!

    Great Video! I am looking around at the Download site but I can't tell if the game in the video is the steam Train Simulator or is it a different game made for the packs? Would like to know and yet again great video! The Class 800's are really nice I took a GWR train from Cardiff To London earlier this year. They are really nice and comfortable for the long journey

      The game is Train Simulator Classic on Steam. I’ve used quite a lot of DLC, along with third party enhancements and freeware routes in this video. But the base game in Train Simulator Classic on Steam. And thank you! :)

    Great job - very well done! I can't help thinking that the HST would have been doing 125 on a lot of that route from Exeter eastwards and particularly on the Taunton to Reading stretch. It's the first time I've seen that line in it's entirety and I'd had no idea it was of such good quality. How much time has been added to that journey by using a slower train and how on earth were they allowed to effectively downgrade those West Country services?

    • @RichPAFC1987
      @RichPAFC1987 Рік тому +1

      Max 110 for a few streches between Taunton and Reading, no 125 until after Reading. Exeter to Taunton is 100mph (just north of Cowley Bridge Jn) and the line diverging at Cogload junction is 90 around the Curve. Same speeds applied to both HST and 80x

    I didn't realise 2 or 3 mph too fast would be a problem IRL tho, since a speedometer is not very accurate to read

      Someone might correct me on this if I’m wrong, but I’ve been told by a Southeastern driver that they’re incredibly strict on the speed limits, and breaching by only a couple of mph can get you a meeting with your manager.

    • @nescotlandtransport
      @nescotlandtransport Рік тому

      You need to buy the ECML London-Peterborough route which will give you the class 801 then you can buy the enhancement pack which will give you the 800/802/803 aswell.

    Hey PTG. How did you manage to create a custom scenario with the AP Class 800? Whenever I try on Career Mode, I can't spawn the 800s or when I do it on Quick Drive, whenever I try to save changes (mostly adding more trains) the changes are erased once I reload the scenario from the menu. Its very annoying and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to fix it.

      Yes tea and biscuits is railway slang that drivers use for having a few serious words with the manager’s. So for example they “I’m going to have tea and biscuits with the manager’s” instead of “I’m going into a meeting with the manager’s” as all drivers know what you are talking about when they use the tea and biscuits slang.
