As I was listening to this I kept thinking “this is among the best, most informative, least sensational coverage of a major newsworthy event that I have heard...” Glad to see other comments sharing similar thoughts!
Meteorologist Carly Gomez just presented the best weather report, and public safety tips, I've seen. And I'm a fan of "The Weather Channel"! Thank you Ms. Gomez!!
I was thinking the same thing. She earned her pay today. Very good report.
soy boy trying to get all the milk here?
Not trying to brag but that's my aunt! So happy to have found her
I'd "brag" if she were my aunt!😀
This is the most hyped up storm ever. looks like regular rain and wind.
It is hyped up because it’s one storm after another with high winds, floods and heavy rains. Because of years of drought of hardly any rains for 10 years or so, the land is not prepared to absorbed the rain. When I moved here in the 1980s it would rained for every day from October through April. Now suddenly we have rain that we should have dumped on us all at once.
In my 50 years in California, I remember rain and wind way heavier and stronger than this. So far, it just looks like regular rain and wind out the window. I've never heard of such a thing as a bomb cyclone.
Thanks 🙏 for the truth
I am 57 yrs old. The last snowstorm sub zero temps they named it “Elliot” ,first time I heard a snowstorm get a name.
They are manipulating weather still.
It's all b.s.
It weather bravo sierra
@@ramonaweston791 I totally agree.
I hate how they hyped up this storm…
Then change the channel.
So informative that my brain fell out just listening to her.
I had something else happen...
Great realistic and tempered explanation of the current weather situation. Respect.
Went to weather channel for Ca storm updates, but it had a show on. Watching this was way more informative than anything I’ve seen on weather channel today. Great explanations!
Best explanation. Thank you!
That was very thoroughly presented. Impressed.
Thank you for that thorough report!
Grateful for this explanation.
THANK YOU! You were so thorough and you explained everything so clearly!
It’s a surreal to see the down pours and winds. As of now, I know 99 isn’t underwater and I have power, so I’ll take that as a win for storm resiliency
My folks were from the mid west. When they moved to California they found it funny how everyone got so worked up about a little rain.
It's been like this for years .....not much new.
Well said! Thank you!
Great details. I don't live in CA, but have relatives there. Thank you for the deep explanations!
Really nice explanation!
After seeing on first row some Glacier’s melt of the Mount Shasta on the Northern California, I’m so glad we are getting this, definitely we need the rain and snow
Rafael: Is this going to save the glaciers?
@@milascave2 I’m not saying that will save the glaciers. It will help to keep some from melting at least for a little longer, so more people can enjoy them
@Rafael cruz From Switzerland: A lot of snow and cold weather means that the reservoir of fresh water in the Alps is growing. The problem is when it gets too warm too early - then we have floods in the plains in spring. But generally, it's ok. It's still enough to have enough water for the entire year. But we constantly have to build and maintain dams, watergates and all the necessary infrastructure. Let's hope this weather will be good for California in summer.
Amazing reporting.
In the 40+ years I have Lived in California , I have Never heard of a Bomb Cyclone . We Just called it Rain !!! LoL
Another word for mini hurricane
Exactly 😂
Right 😂😂
Great job ! You explained all my questions and I learned about the low pressure MB 👍💯
Thanks for the information 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
In Fallbrook, California we have had three consecutive days of very heavy drizzle that at times could be confused as rain. I just checked the total and it's about .48 of an inch. The storm slammed northern and central and it rained in LA but further south it's been just drizzly with car crashes.
I am looking at current sattelite 4:30 am the morning after. The rain bands of this storm stretch from Glacier Bay , Alaska and Yukon, Canada all the way to Tijuana , Mexico.
Excellent scientific explanations
Great explanation of the forecast for most of Cali, Carley...well done! Let's see what actually transpires!
Wow! Very Informative. It's Mother Nature's reward and she described the colors of the weather's forecasts. Thank you...
Light rain and wind above Sacramento . Clearing Friday for a nice walk or bike ride .
希望大家平安🙏
Nothing happened in Modesto. I wa expecting a ton of water. We just got normal rain
how protracted La Nina turned into the worst El Nino since 1997. Lol.
Well researched and organized description of all of this. 👏 👏
Wow i learned allot this lady is very good at her job
Outstanding report, thank you.
Excellent presentation
They use the term “bomb” to scare people! 😂
we need the rain. I just hope there are no more fatalities.
Good, instructive weather information (with one grammar error: the subjunctive).
milibars of pressure should be mB not MB, that'd be Megabars
Carly Gomez is the bomb ❤️
I remember in 2015 when it snowed across the street from me at the pier.
I liked the presentation and explanation! Educational and interesting to watch
Very good presentation
The ☁️ weather very good indeed in california.
Feels good outside tho
Why don't they just call it what it is: Category 2 hurricane?
Whats it feel like?
I zoned out. But basically if I go outside and there’s a bomb cyclone, my hair just isn’t going to look right 😮
This is vital information
So far it's been raining and have strong gusts of wind...we are in the Bay Area...many have lost power..guess what? We aren't back East where no power is deadly...
People complained all this rain is hyped up. It is hyped up because it’s one storm after another with high winds, floods and heavy rains. Because of years of drought of hardly any rains for 10 years or so, the land is not prepared to absorbed the rain. When I moved here in the 1980s it would rained every day from October through April. Now suddenly we have rain that we should have had dumped on us all at once.
…lived there 50 years…”Bomb Cyclone”…really…
That's a nasty storm.
Im in sacramento rn
After reading about "triple dip La Nina" in SoCal a few months ago, it's nice to see that we are getting some rain. I heard rumors of an inevitable El Nino for 2023-2024. Obviously, I wish for everyone's safety, but the 2022-2023 Winter has been really good for precipitation and the future looks wet. I'm curious to see how the drought watch maps change as reservoirs refill and the snow pack builds.
In 1970s I think it was 1973-1976 (I forgot the exact years) there was also a 3 year La Nina which then turned upside down in to a 2-3 year El Nino with heavy flooding and by the 80s following more wet winters many of the dams had to open the flood gates including the Hoover dam in 1983 not saying that will happen as weather is always changing so I guess a level of random to it all or just chance but I guess we will find out over the next few years what plays out. Weather is always interesting.
Michael S, there have already been government officials saying that the rain is good, but it's not really going to eliminate the drought conditions here in L A County.
@@2000labar Thank you.
I subsequently saw data on the state of our California reservoirs. All this rain may have added 1-2%, currently averaging around 33% of capacity. Ouch!
What happened to atmospheric river like 3 Mississippi rivers .
I learned a lot. Excellent segment.
Also, my (single wide rental) house is installed on a creek bed. I swear this old oak tree is the only thing holding the bank. Wish me luck!
bomb cyclone .sounds like falcon punch
Beware flash floods. Take warnings seriously! Best of luck, girl. ♥️
Rainy Los Angeles.
🎶Cause they tell me….it never rains 🌧 in Southern California🎶
@@Ren-ri5cl Me too. I first time saw the heavy rain in Los Angeles.
I live in Riverside and am still waiting for this “storm”. They keep saying California when it’s just hitting up north down to about San Francisco.
How is this a storm? Im looking out my window and its a basic rain and wind. Happens every single year . Dramatic much?
I'm in SF, and we got hit hard. Your location wasn't a prime target, seems like.
Answered my Hurricane and bomb cyclone questions thank you
A+
Pray for rain.
In Washington we just call it rain.. 😂
Ok, boomer
@@hopespringseternal2624 ok person we gave life to.
@@okboomer1340 What in the world are you talking about? God is the only one that gave life to me.
@@hopespringseternal2624 let me put it another way Hope. Respect your elders. The "OK Boomer" meme is disrespectful. And I think I speak for all Boomers. If it weren't for us, you wouldn't be here with your flippant "Ok Boomer" tripe. get it? Now go to bed.
I prepared for a hurricane because of all the news coverage, but only a small drizzle showed up over my part of San Jose.
Not that bad…all inland and NorCal. News tends to exaggerate
Shes good 😅😊
Do you want her to sit on your face?
It's raining with some wind. So much hype. BFD
It's da BOMB! Oh it's a storm...but where is the drought Al! Gore! Get in your hole Al Gore, its like normally a weather incident.
It hasn’t even started yet lol
"Bomb cyclone" aside, we need the water throughout CA. This is another opportunity for increasing much needed snow ❄️ pack, reservoir storage, and groundwater re-charge.
I hope the rain fill up those dried lakes too and full reservoir for CA.
Yeah only if we have a system to store all these water. Most of water will end up in Pacific.
@@min-k2689
Fortunately, California has the infrastructure and voter-approved funding (Prop 1 in 2014 as example) to make long-overdue improvements to its dams, storage reservoirs, groundwater re-charge basins, treatment facilities, etc. The problem is the endless litigations and infighting among engineers, consultants, environmental interests, etc.
In my view, California will not get past drought if they won’t save storm-flows, fill the reservoirs, and improve management of resources to benefit humans, farms and environment.
Language is everything. If we allow drought impacts like water restrictions, over-drafted groundwater basins, low reservoirs, etc. to be called "drought", we will never ever be out of a drought emergency.
"Emergencies" enable the urgent signing-off on policies that trample water rights, increase water usage restrictions with higher rates and fines, increase reservoir releases, deny irrigation allocations to farmers, and a whole host of other controlling powers.
Humans, farms and environment are all suffering from policies that need to change is my view.
@@ginofilippi7961 - Could not agree with you more.
Nature has a way to correct things.
Is this bad ?
Can Fairies swim?
Crazy how they’re trying to softly normalize this …
Is any Indians here? 🙋 Stay safe 😔🙏
So in other words, NORMAL traditional California weather... Got it.
If it WERE a hurricane at all, one should say.
I never heard of a 'bomb cyclone' until two weeks ago. Is this a new weather pattern on earth or is someone just being creative?
This is good news. We need the rain, but next week will be complaining of drought. At least the wildfires are out.
I guess you can say this storm is DA BOMB!!!
California! You're taking our weather. Oregon.
Bomb cyclone 🤣😂🤣 Not even as bad as last week .
It’s bad where I’m at
Not much rain with this storm, what a rip off. I want a refund!!
lol
We got battered here in SF... Your location was most likely not the prime target.
Welcome to a hurricane now you know what it's like here in Texas cyclone typhoon hurricane through all the same thing
Tesla owners right now 😮😮😮
Rain rain and more rain!!!👍
Thank God! Beware of mudslides.
959 mb ? So it's technically a category 3 hurricane in California?
Raindrops on my shoulder get me high
Oh California, we NEED WATER, but we don’t want to see a drop of rain on our cars and clothes when we are out and about. Realistically if we had a BOMB CYCLONE EVERY DAY FOR 3 months, we might get out of a drought but the damage it’s gonna cause is crazy. None the less bring it, I didn’t buy a brand new boat to just look at it.
2:17 “ADD AND” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ who typed that?
That's my aunt!
If only they were as good at predicting weather as inventing alarming new names for rain
"Bomb Cyclone"" is suddenly getting overly used!! Anything for drama
what was she saying?

It's taking me a while to get my head around how a Sacramento area news station's meteorological coverage is head and shoulders above all the news stations in the San Francisco Bay Area. There is an ABC affiliate in San Francisco (KGO) that has at least 5 meteorologists, but they stand in front of the same graphic of the yellows and reds moving east from the sea. They even have Spencer Christian (if you were curious where he landed after leaving the morning show), but he isn't much better than the other weather people on the station's staff. The information that is presented in ABC10's segments is much more useful to me than from all of the local coverage.
My momma and papa were both blown to smithereens by the "bomb cyclone" of '67. There was only bits of them. Still have PTSD to this day.
Nobody on the planet used the term bomb cyclone before 2 years ago!
what "bomb cyclone"? where? go back to sleep.
Sir Mix a Lot approves this message
That body though. Man oh man.
It’s just a normal storm.
