- Following the New Year's Eve storm in the Bay Area, San Mateo County is warning people to stay away from local beaches until there are at least three days of clear weather as sewage is impacting the coast. Residents in one Pacifica neighborhood were cleaning up after experiencing sewage flooding. STORY: abc7ne.ws/3WHz8WP

The most taxed state can’t afford quality sewage systems but hey at least they buy Teslas and virtue signal
Somebody didn't get a Tesla for Christmas
Funny thing is that the people that are most negatively impacted by the high taxes are the same ones that vote for higher taxes.
They gave all the money to Ukraine.

Littered with toilet paper and fecal matter is just anther day in SF.
I know in Marin they went to every street and house and made sure that the rain gutters and walkways were not draining into sewer lines, only storm drains through street drainage. How they did it quickly was to pump smoke trough the sewer line and you could see it pouring from the rain gutters and the walkways.
Babe, its Marin. A lot of things happen here you don't see in neighboring counties lol
@@MrLakers92 Lol! I am sleeping on my parent's guest bed and otherwise homeless and your response is still funny.

@@jeffsmith1798 🤣🤣👍👍
That's what you get when you allow storm/drainage runoff to be combined with waste water. A good city system would have the two seperated. Bristol TN/VA used to have their storm and waste system combined and everytime after a hard rain the storm runoff would overload the waste system.
@TreeLBollingTreeMan: Combined storm and sewage systems were common decades ago and many places including the city of San Francisco still have them. I believe that the City and County of San Francisco has been gradually divorcing the two systems via upgrades for quite some time. It's costly and complicated...In arid climates back in an era of smaller populations and far less technology, they may have made sense. Not any more.
@D R In Bristol even from a mild rain event the storm contribution to the waste system would not just over flow out of the manholes, but would also over tax the sewage treatment plant. The untreated overflow from treatment plant went via Beaver Creek into Boone Lake. Repeated discharge events led to mass fish kills and a major reduction in lakeside residential property values. Perhaps you would like to reassess your take on the matter.
@@dr5290 indeed separated the water flow in insufficient for sewage pipes

False! This was in Pacifica which normally has ZERO sewage in the street and has very few unsheltered homeless people (though does have a few large impoverished residential RV and trailer parks).
The Streets in this video did not have any sewage and nobody was using them as bathrooms before this storm. This is not in SF but in a fairly affluent suburb to it's south.

People seem to be naive. The sewer system is gravity feed and open to the air in residential neighborhoods. The manhole covers you see usually say sewer on them. When storm water floods the street it floods the sewer and it all becomes one. Storm drains are separate by law. Force mains transmit sewage to a treatment plant and are sealed and are placed at low geographic points in the area but the collection system from your house drain to the pump station is open to the atmosphere. So when you see standing or flowing water on a residential or city street it contains all the pathogens that have left the population. Don’t contact the water unless your in danger. How do I know? I retired from the engineering dept. of a Bay Area City……..
My cousins lived on this same section of street in Pacifica for years. Back in the 1980's there were 2 or 3 winters in a row that were "really" bad and the same thing happened. Except it flooded beyond the street and into their house, and a whole bunch of neighboring houses. They had to move out for the restoration work.
😱
Sorry to hear that youd figure they would have a better system by now
So the problem has existed since at least the eighties? Don't worry, they'll get around to fixing it some day. After several more years of expensive impact studies.
