Last year my friends' tree fell on her house and she is still dealing with the damage and repairs.
Trees with deep roots do not blow over. Trees with shallow roots Are very prone to being blown over. Redwoods have shallow root systems.

1. That's not an oak. Whichever member of the crew told you it was an oak tricked you and made you look dumb. Kick them really hard in the shins.
2. First powerline in the back yard lady has her internet or cable TV on the ground. usually between 12-24 volts of low amp power.

That’s exactly the issue. Climate change creates big swings, too much heat, too much cold, too much water, too much droughts.
It’s like a pendulum. Our climate used to be more gentle and it’s getting more rough. Bigger swings, extremes.

That is not an Oak Tree, its a Deodar Cedar. Oak trees have leaves, Not needles. Should be obvious, but she called it an oak twice and said other oak trees might come down. Actually our Native Oaks are pretty storm resistant. Unlike some imported exotics like the Deodar Cedar

As for stability, oak trees do fall too. Here I have an issue with oaks that look healthy but their base is rotten, the first 3 or 4 feet.
Redwood trees are very stable. Those were not redwood.

@@lumberjackdreamer6267 Oak tree roots die during droubt and then they rot which causes the tree to loose stability and fall. Its a big problem. But in general the Oaks have a longer life expectancy than many other trees.
The “very large oak” is not an oak tree.

@@mspms3 My own cedar took a total beating during the drought. It was once the most gorgeous of trees now but a dead stump. Pines and oaks generally fair better in these times but I miss the esthetics.

Fireplaces aren't illegal. There are just days when the air quality can't withstand the extra smoke. That's never when it rains because the rain pulls down the particulate.

Use camping sleeping bags if you have them along with extra blanket; they insulate quite well.
Not in flooded areas. Bring a raft or blastic inexpensive inflatables to help prevent drowning for temporarily use ? also tarps and things you suggested to keep things dry. not suggesting dallor store materials except food or may be a cheap tarp

Some of this news seems hyperbole. This will justify insurance company rate hikes and riders for flood insurance. We will all pay. The shakedown of Californians to continue. On the plus side I can smoke a joint to quell the anxiety. I guess we got complacent in the drought. We should have cleaned some storm drains and checked the levy.

We are so lucky down here in Orange County. I remember years when we were in the same boat as you are right now. I sure hope it gets better for you. What? Yes the earth's climate has always been changing, it's called weather. But you guys need to make up your mind if you want rain or not, storms are part of rain, mountains are a main factor in having earth movement, having sandy loamy soil is good for gardening, but water flows right thru it (not very stable).
