Learning how loud these are puts an extra layer of comedy to Spinal Tap's "these go to 11" gag
Ritchie Blackmore uses an amp with some kinda after 10 boost feature custom made for him when you read how itsbdescribed it's totally "this goes to 11".
@findantu lol, I saw that! There's also a video of Jeff Beck talking to an interviewer about his guitar, and it has to be what the based Nigel Tufnel on.
@@RByrne The guy who portrayed Tufnel confirmed that he was basing him on Jeff Beck, gum-chewing included haha.
@Nghilifa yeah, exactly. Sorry, I should have said that better. The interview Im talking about is definitely what they based the "dont look at it" scene on.
@@RByrne lol the end is so epic when he banngs the violin and then looks at it like it did something wrong and then tunes it a little before continuing.
Protect your ears guys!! I used to crank tube amps and also played in a jazz big band for ~10 years, I’m not even 30 and deal with tinnitus. It’s fun but be sensible!
This!!
Also don't shoot Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle without ear-protection. I did. Same result.
I don't protect my ears because I hate wearing earplugs. Played with amps cranked all the time and my ears are fine.
@@adiohead not in a few years
@@adiohead you're the exception, not the rule.
About 5 years ago I fullfilled myself a dream and bought a JCM 800 2203 from 1982. I asked my dads mechanic (who has his car workshop in an industrial area outside the city) if I could bring it there one day for fun and crank it. He said yes.
Up to this day I cannot believe what orgasmic experience that was. Yes, better than sex. The sheer brute force of the soundwaves hammering into your chest, the feedback, the harmonics, the dynamics... the amplifier becomes an instrument itself. The reverb and echo from the really high workshop ceilings was a serious bonus too... almost like cranking it in a church.
Needless to say, the amp was soo loud it still attracted the neighbours from the shops nearby. I played a mini concert and even got some cash for it 😅
One of the best days of my life, my dads mechanic is a pretty cool dude.
This was definitely the most fun I've had with my pants on in a while 🤣
We need a mic outside your house to see what people passing by would hear
That and a db meter
I second this idea
@@castleanthrax1833 what?
A dB meter is a useful tool to own but don't trust a phone app version however as the mic on a phone has compression/limiting on it so after about 80db or so the readings are more and more inaccurate making it fairly useless for monitoring truly loud sounds. You don't really need a db meter at all to know what you get with a 50 or 100 watt tube amp though... pretty safe guess is at three to six feet away it is going to be pretty close if not actually hitting 120db A-weighted. The difference between a 100W and a 50W amp with the same speakers is only about 3db which means that there really isn't much of a difference as you get the amp cooking. 115db and 118db are both incredibly loud sound levels. Once you break a 100db it's basically all seriously fucking loud and can be difficult to tell much else but 120db is certainly worse on your ears and quicker to damage them than 100db which makes this all that much more dangerous. If you play amps loud understand how sound actually works and what you are doing. You only get one set of ears so "Protect the gift".
"If you have a 100 watt half stack in your house, don't do this." Thank God my half stack is 120 watts and I can do this.
I tried this with a blue voodoo and my friend heard me half a mile away lol
I like that when you cranked it to 10 the camera started vibrating a little. Goes to show what kind of air pressure this produces and also how much energy this puts out. You'd go deaf if not for the protection
Oh yeah, this would've gone poorly for my eardrums 🤣
Should have put small animals in the room and see how many exploded
Stop 💀💀💀
Cursed Disney movie song
He has to save something for the next video
It would've been just like the mouse scene in Rock n Roll highschool 😂
I’m sure that along with being loud that must have felt incredible. My victory V30 on 2 can start shaking the room I’m in lol
I thought the shaking was intense at 2 or 3, but around 9 shit literally started falling off tables 🤣🤣
3:50 that's the sound of 80s rock. Right there.
What riff is that?

You picked the wrong day to wear your hair up. I wanted to see the speaker air blowing your hair like an old school Maxell cassette tape advertisement.🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Never cranked a jcm. But when I had to crank my full stack 6505+ for a show it was absolutely insane
I tried that with a 2x12 once in my living room and it blew a cabinet glass door out. The air pressure is no joke. Or no laughing matter as we germans say😅
@maxmustardman298 loudest I've ever had with my 6505 at home was 7. And that was so loud even my earplugs felt like they barely did something
Bro were you playing Madison square garden or something? 💀
@bread6085 nah just a warehouse show with some of the worst acoustics ever. So we said fuck it go loud or go home. Crowd liked it lol
I like the Mia kalifa glasses 🤓
DAMN. I deeply regret not having the opportunity to do this with my ol' 800KK 😩 It'd had issues for a while before I sold it last year, and I unfortunately didn't really have the spare cash/ space to get it up and running again. I'd played it on about 2 and a half before and even that was pretty intense! HOWEVER, I did get a very unpleasant taste of it's full potential whilst testing it to see what kind of state it was in. I had it hooked up to my 4x12, with all the knobs at 0, basically just to see what happened when I took it out of standby. I flicked the switch, there was an almighty bang, followed by a sound that was comparable to sitting inside of a jet engine at full thrust. My room pretty much shook itself to pieces, and my girlfriend heard it from the back garden (the other side of the house, about 50 meters away) and actually thought it was a plane 😂In the absolute panic, it took me about 10 seconds to switch the power off, after which it carried on "buzzing" for another 10 seconds or so. The guy I sold it too is an amp tech, and later confirmed upon finding the fault that what I'd experienced was essentially the same noise you get when you touch the end of a jack cable, completely bypassing the master volume. 10/10 EXPRIENCE WOULD RECCOMEND 👍 Also the guy's holding on to the amp and has said that he'd happily sell it back to me in the future if I want it 😁
That's cool he would sell it back
I am so jealous of that 2203KK. Respect for turning it up to 10!
I used to have a 1500 ft.²/140 m² apartment above a bar and I had 2 jcm900s and 4 4x12 cabs ran in a wet/dry configuration, and I used to crank them both full blast in that apartment. The apartment was 2 bedroom so the cabinets were in the spare room with the door closed, and the heads sat in my living room. It was so loud that when bands would play down in the bar live they could hear me playing over the music and would come up to tell me to turn it down. Yeah those things are definitely loud.and yes I was using hearing protection for sure. LOL. But my brother did decide that he wanted to hear how loud it actually was so he decided to go open the door and walk into the room while I was playing one time and yes it was only one time. LOL. He couldn’t hear shit for several hours.
Think I felt this in Philadelphia, PA, USA 😂
You answering your moms call was awesome🤣
Great video as always!
I totally relate to the standing up and playing aspect. At home, I’m a reasonable player. At rehearsal, I’m sloppy af. I know the solution is to play standing up at home, but….I couldn’t be bothered. And I play better sitting down. So why bother sounding bad at home too lol
I know I have to practise playing standing up too, but it's much more fun not learning the instrument all over 🤣🤣
Dammit, I wish you had a decibel meter in there...
Geile Riff Auswahl! und natürlich super Video
My man here is stepping into Motörhead-Manowar-Deep Purple levels of volume and is not able to hide his happiness...
Edit: Even his mom called in... Holy shit this video is quite a gem.
Oh yeah, this was the most fun I've had in a while 🤣
If you're doing this, ISOtunes headphones(over ear) are a great product to use. They can block out almost all the sound and noise, and you can listen via wireless transmitter. It's meant for construction sites and things like that
the stronger the vibrations the more powerful the music to the soul
Lmfao!!! This is epic!! Love the headphones!!
1:05 I DO, haha, I cant live any other way, lol
This is insanely stupid and I love it. The JCM800 takes no prisoners.
3:28 Iced Earth !
I have a 100 watt Orange Rockerverb mkiii. I have cranked it at punk and metal gigs many times. However it is so insanely loud I have yet to push it to ten. I suspect arrest for noise pollution would surely follow. It's an incredible piece of kit.
I was afraid of a noise complaint too, but I had a good hours worth of fun with it
The worst feeling in the world is when your ear plugs fall out in the middle of practice with your band and everything is so damn lound with drums and bass and guitars that you can’t even hear notes it’s just a wall of pain till u get em back in
awesome :D . But now thats done, we also need the JCM2000 cranked please :D
The tubes are busted right now so I can't use it. Maybe once they're replaced 👀
This video has inspired me to crank my 2000’s 2x12 peavy transtube
I only use my 15w practice amp on 2 and it already annoys everyone in the house, now I'm tempted to crank it up, even if it's only a small amp
Lmao, same! Even for a small amp, they can still pack quite a punch! The loudest I've gone is just about 7ish on my master volume, still gets loud as hell for my parents and neighbors
You'd need to multiply the wattage by 10 to double the volume of an amp, so your 15W head isn't *much* quieter than my big one, just has less headroom. I say next time the house is empty, DO IT!
@@sixstringtv1 huh, definitely going to when I have the chance 🤘
Cooles Video. Ich habe auch ein JCM 800 KK, so was hat ich nie zuhause machen können. So danke für die Erlebnis haha
2:06 LOL, that made me grin ear to ear.
I can feel that volume from here 😅. I have a 35 watt Mark V, i have cranked it and felt my chest... but this.... dayyyyymmmmmn! The air pressure of a metal riffs!
I would recommend to put a pillow or something like that between the cab and the amp when playing loud, as all this vibration is not healthy for the tubes (and tube prices have gone absolutely crazy in the last few months).
I run a line6 into a 600w pro-amp, this video has inspired me to also crank it
Protect. Yer. Hearing.

Blew out my eardums
I got my first ever tube amp about a month ago, it’s Marshall DSL40CR, 40 watts so not as loud as your JCM in this. I saw this video and thought it would be fun to try for myself since I would have the house to myself for a couple hours. I took the same precautions you did like putting in ear plugs and using a pair of headphones we had to protect drummers hearing, and I couldn’t even crank it past 4 without being like “wtf is happening rn” so I can only imagine how crazy this was for you do do. It was fun af for me but also a little terrifying
A 40 watt amp is only about 4db or so quieter than a 100 watter. Also speaker efficiency is a big factor as well as how you set your eq. Eq is just volume or cut at in a particular frequency range. All other things being equal: half the wattage only drops the sound level by 3db which isn't really a whole lot. 95db is pretty loud and even a 5W tube amp cranked can get you there or a bit higher. A 40W tube amp will easily get you well beyond a 100db and is not hugely different than 100w amp really. People often have the incredibly mistaken idea that if the amp isn't 100W it's not "all that loud" when in reality just about any tube amp cranked is capable of being quite loud really.
I once cranked my Peavey 5150 when playing an outdoor show at Mallory Park (Leicestershire UK) and that was painfully loud (no ear-pro). The sound guy nearly shit himself!!
I couldn't imagine doing it indoors, not even with my old and trashed hearing.
I have a 4010 jcm 800, 1982. It's the 50 watt 1x12 combo with a matching 1x12 extension cab. I don't play it as much as I should because it's the sort of amp that doesn't shine unless it's so loud you can't be in the same room with it. A good set of earplugs designed for music are worth every penny.
I usually play my big amps around 3 or 4 in my videos, that's already so much I have to wear proper concert plugs
This is how Marshall’s are supposed to be played! Unlike some boomers who crank it just to play the same 3 blues licks 💀
I had a good hour's worth of fun with it. Had to turn it off after a while tho cause I was scared of a noise complaint
The neighbouring town called the police on this guy.
I need to crank my evh combo all the way soon after watching this
2:45 single coil wimp out! 🤣
Sounds so good! The volume is massive. Also, am I the only one who got the Kramer reference?! ("I turn to Woody Allen and say....") LOL
Made an entire video about building that Kramer guitar! 😆
Was that the riff from “She watch channel zero” in-there?
Brutal tones.
I used to crank up dsl 2000 with half stack at max volume and stand a few inches in front of it for hours, I remember being deaf for 10-15 minutes after playing
My bedroom amp is a crate gx-1600 160 watt guitar amp head going into a mc412a Marshall cabinet rated for 200 watts
Sunn 0))) was terrifyingly loud
Sweet
At what volume is this amp normally played…? 6 is about stage volume on a 2203. 10 is a bit excessive on stage but really sick sounds to be had in the studio when your cabinet is in another room.
Decibel meter needed for sure lol.
Also, talk about Solar's European guitars in a video and how Chapman still can't get their shit together.
Tinnitus loading😭
I think I'm good 🤔🤣

Next do a wall of Marshall full stacks full volume with humbuckers.
You look like the old lead guitarist from Obscura, Rafael Trujillo. Like you're his younger brother
I see it but I'd like to think I'm a *bit* prettier 😭
almost went to 11

How do you still have ears after that?
I am not sure.
I wonder what your mom was thinking when you said „Weil ich IRGENDWIE tausend Schichten Kopfhörer an hab“.
Yeah my marshall 9100 can definetly blow out my windows
2:17 what song is this again?
What speakers are in the 4x12?
I think you can consider them broken in now.

In the 90s I lived in a half-double house. The neighbors on the other side where always loud, so one day I cranked my jcm900 to 10 and took my wireless outside and sat on the porch and just banged on it to piss them off. One of them came out the front door, saw me sitting there banging on my guitar and went back inside without saying a word.. or maybe he yelled at me, not that I could hear anything but the guitar.
Face ripper jr. Brain smelting.

@@RX120D on a serious note:
Hearing protection can hinder the creative process for several reasons:
Reduced audio quality: Hearing protection often mutes or muffles sound, which can lead to a decrease in the quality of audio experienced and hinder the ability to accurately hear musical nuances and other details important to the creative process.
Isolation: Hearing protection can create a sense of isolation, making it difficult to hear other musicians or sound elements, leading to a breakdown in communication and collaboration.
Loss of inspiration: Inspiration can come from a variety of sources, including the sounds around us. Hearing protection can limit the exposure to those sounds, making it harder for creative individuals to find inspiration and get into the flow of their work.
Uncomfortable: Some hearing protection can be uncomfortable to wear for extended periods, causing physical distractions that can impact the creative process.
Psychological impact: The use of hearing protection can lead to a psychological disconnect from the creative process and environment, impacting motivation, focus, and overall mental state.
Overall, while hearing protection is important for protecting against hearing damage, it can have negative impacts on the creative process and should be used in moderation.
