There was an inexpensive Stagg strat at practice room I would play rather than schlep my gear around… ended up using it at gigs, jazz standards to classic rock… people would come up to me after and ask about my custom made expensive guitar, and had to tell them it’s probably $150 bucks lol Tone is in the hands.
Distortion can be like ketchup. Dump enough ketchup on and it doesnt matter what quality of the food was originally. Over drive a guitar signal so hard it goes square-wave and the original charachter and EQ of the wave gets compressed out.
Man, I've been scrolling and watching your videos one after another and I can't believe how good your voice audio sounds, like what's going on? What mic, preamp, plugins are you using?
Yeah I've bought several Glarry guitars. Even a couple of bass guitars and a violin just for the hell of it. They are good guitars for the price. Just give it a good set up and new strings and you could easily gig with them.
Dude these 20$ guitars sound good. I have a “ First Act Strat “ walmart guitar that I have had in the original packaging for 13 years, on my 19th bday I decided to learn guitar, well a year later I can tell you that this strat sounds 10x better then my fish man fluence
You CAN use whatever you want. I can also ride a bike to California. Just because you CAN do it that way, doesn't mean that's the best way. Metal just doesn't do well on a strat, unless you're going for a very specific Iron Maiden like tone, and even then, Iron Maiden never really had the best "metal guitar tone" if you ask me.
They are all tools! Use what you want. Everyone is going to have their own opinion and you are not going to please everyone so at least do what you want
Yes. The pickups just magnets that convert the single to an electric signal and send it out. All the gain is supposed to come from a pedal or amp. Humbuckers just usually sound better than single coils for distortion, but in the end it is all preference and everything has its place imo
This is probably gonna be an unpopular opinion, especially with the gear queens out there, but once you start throwing distortion/overdrive/fuzz into the mix, it hardly matters what guitar you play. I've played high end Fender Strats and Gibson Les Pauls, and I've played low end guitars like Encores, Elevations and Auditions, once you turn up the gain and turn on the effects the differences become almost nil. One of my favourite guitars is a bolt on neck Les Paul style guitar made by Westfield, for some reason when you turn on the distortion and throw a little reverb in there it sounds epic, and I bought that guitar for pocket change on ebay.
I agree 100%! Context matters. When it is in the mix (especislly rock and metal) it matters far less. Ive done a couple pickup type shoot outs to take about idea and am working on ways to talk about it more. It is important to me because people (and myself) spend so much time on ppintless searches for gear that will change our tone by like 1%. Thanks for the comment ❤
Sure ,occasionally u might run across a cheap guitar that sounds ok soaked with distortion- but I'm sorry kids- depending your level of skill -talent & experience, a cheap -ass guitar cannot sound like a Gibson Les Paul or PRS or even a Fender. Itscalled PRO gear for a reason-& you get what you pay for- of course- why would anybody spend the money for a GibsonLes Paul or Paul Reed Smith or Gretzch or nice Fender if something way cheaper sounded just as good- they wouldnt- bcuz they just can't sound like a quality rig- even dripping with distortion, the tone & quality of a higher end guitar is gonna shine thru- rock out with your sock out!!
Tone is subjective for sure…but playing live isn’t just about tone. Hissing, scratching pots, button pops…it all matters. If you cut corners, you might have a saved some money, but a noisy, unreliable rig is a nightmare and the sound guy and people in the audience absolutely can hear it.
I bought a cheap Eart lp looking guitar off Amazon. It looked awesome. Metallic gray. Played good. But the paint started chipping off basically that same day so I returned it. I’m trying out a Ibanez Gio right now and looking into the Dean Exile. I have quite a few high end guitars so these are kinda fun as projects. Not cool when people just simply say it sounds crap with no facts at all as to what they use for their magical tune. I’m starting my channel soon. It’s going to be from the view point of some of the finest guitars and money can buy, and what what sound like from a player who is still working on transitioning chords. Then we’ll see how your $20 stacks up.
Yea.....No bruh- that's not a nice flavor- lot of noise- how about more playing & less talking about playing. Your sound & tone does matter unless you just dont give a crap- You get what you pay for when it comes to sound- that doesn't mean u can never get a decent tone out of a cheap guitar- but theres a reason they are inexpensive- lack of quality- sorry bro- I respectfully disagree
Nope. It sounds horrible. Horrible tone. Maybe you are an awesome player. Maybe that guitar could priced a thousands of dollars. But the sound that is coming from it is horrible. So much noise. Even the most grungy distortion can have a clean sound. That guitar is full of noise. I am sorry but I disagree with you.
Uhhhh yeah dude. Nobody is forcing you to watch this. Go look at some CGI chicks and leave us to our metal. Keep saving for your first guitar. Maybe he’ll sell you his for $10
@@stevenkambach questioning a questionable opinion isnt throwing shade. I agree with a lot of whar you said. Like good idea bad execution. I bet if you tried running amp sim like archetype fortin or gojira it would sound good. If you wanna go the over drive pedal route your idea would work best with a horizon devices over drive with the built in noise gate. Or even using the horizon devices overdrive on a low gain setting in front of your amp distortion similar to a 5150 amp and tube screamer. If you like the tone in this video that's cool but most dont seem to like it and believe you can do better. I agree with your logic and your idea I just think you can get way better tone with this idea.

Don't worry, nobody comes to my shows 🤣
I've seen the punk meme😂it's sooo true!!
@@stevenkambachI would man. I would…
Don’t need to clean up the lows when you’re rocking a strat 🤘

Hell yeah!
Man, I actually thought it was a Fender.
Enjoyed the vid. That looks and sounds a nice S-type guitar regardless of the £. Cheers from London!

You can pay 1000 for a good name like fender or 20 bucks for a cheap guitar swap out the pickups, hardware & have a fender for less then half.
This was so cool that I am subscribing now.
You're so cool 😎
Nothing more punk than a taped up guitar!!!
When you’re soaked in distortion it really doesn’t matter what your playing
To some extent, yes! But then different types of pickups still have different tones so it is all up to preference
Yes it does.

Random Sennheiser shotgun mic and some compression from ReaComp plugin I think 👍
I once using strat to play some old atmospheric black metal too. 😂
It's not that bad, in fact it blew everyone's mind on my show.

I have a glarry strat and the thing is a killer guitar. It surprised me it's not that far off my fender custom shop strat.
I gotta try a glarry! I've heard a lot of good things about them

Mick Mars played metal on a strat

I don't remember tbh. I think it was the blacksun amp sim by Audio Assault. Solid plugin 👍
