I'll never understand why people are surprised by cheap modern pedals sounding as good as 40 year old circuits that have had very little changes since. Also, these same pedals come in waves on ebay for around $15, shipped from the US. It's always the same few effects with changes in the case and rarely a change to the circuit.
Im in a group called "cheap pedal boards from hell" all this is in it and I appreciate you taking the time to show what I do. That Jeff Loomis death pedal looks great but a 10 bone pedal may hold some secrets
It used to be that you were paying $$$ for these classic pedals because you were paying for a new, exciting circuit and all the r&d that went into it. Now these (honed very basic) circuits have been floating around for 40+ years. Every pedal builder knows what’s in a tubescreamer, and the components cost pennies. Couple that with cheap Chinese labor and there’s no reason why anyone should be surprised by the price on these.
When I started making my pedalboard I bought like 5 of these pedals. Some of them were good, some were great and some were bad. It helped me to discover which effects I used the most and I have been slowly replacing them with better ones, but I have kept some that were good enough. For me it was a bit overwhelming as a beginner the amount of different effects that there were in the market, and buying a cheap version helped me to find out the tone that I wanted, and that’s really a lot
I just rig my guitar to a computer to play around with different effects I might buy a pedal when I find something interesting enough to carry around with me But for sound processing the computer route offers a lot of options
@@RobotronSage I agree, digital modelling is a great way to find your own tone. It is cheap and you can have every sound that you want. The problem that I had with it is that I had so many options that I spent a lot of time just trying weird effects, but that can be also inspiring for playing music out of your comfort zone
I paid $16 each for 2 of these off Amazon 3 years ago. Same case, marked Saphue. American Dream and American Crunch. Both sound great. One has mislabeled gain and volume knobs. Ive seen them with 3 or 4 different names on the same pedal. Also Asmuze and Kmise.
i think making a video on cheap pedals is a great idea, most of us arent really interested in paying 350 dollars for a boutique pedal if there are much better alternatives
Man, I use the berhinger vintage delay and reverb for my work setup (I work as a guitar tech) and I have good fun with them. I hear the circuit is the same as boss pedals but housed in plastic. Some cheap pedals are sick!
I have a few of their pedals they are a great deal... They always come back in stock... Also for the money the Donner Arena 2000 Multi Effects Pedal can't be beat. Cab Sims Mic Sims Amp Sims Pedal Sims mini recording studio Drum beats. Blue tooth so a tablet phone on a mic stand can control it can be pre set for gig sets. I have some of these. They go as kmise sometimes or just with no label. I have the "Ultimate Drive" and "Classic chorus" and "Tremolo". Can't really complain, they work like expected. All metal, compact. Ultimate Drive is far from my favourite drive, I dislike the way it EQs the sound, but it is completely usable. 10 EUR means there's a nice discount, usually they cost more.
It's a few op amps, transistors, capacitors and resistors on a printed circuit board. Of course it sounds the same. It's all in the design. For gigging musicians, might be worth buying something with better build quality, but not for the bedroom.
I remember using these through my Blackstar back in high school. Certainly cool to have for the time but looking at them now I am grateful that I can afford good pedals
I've been experimenting with "cheap" pedals for a while and with mostly good results. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the Rowin Metal ( LTL-03 ) pedal ( about $30 US on Amazon ). I have one and it has been my go to Boost/OD/Distortion pedal since I got it. Also, love the Park cab in the background!
@@gupster24 To be honest, I haven't used the headphone or second output. I just kinda plugged it in and started playing, I didn't really explore all the functions ( the extra jacks ). In my opinion, it's worth the price. It also plays well with other pedals.

The pedals are generic and they’re sold on wish, aliexpress, temu, etc. but they really are quite good! I have the red chorus pedal and it adds a bit of a volume boost when you turn it on, and when activated sometimes creates a pop as it turns on depending on your power source. But the effect sounds great. It’s clearly trying to copy a boss ce-2 though so of course it’s a good sound. The sweep of the knobs is super versatile.
COmmenting before watching: Yes, yes they absolutely can. And are. Some are fantastic. Some are the exact same besides the case as some others up to $100.

Hey if it sounds good, it is good. Clearly price dose not have as much affect on quality these days, as years past. Very nice.
You got that right, I paid $200 for a Revv G4 and it might be the cheapest sounding distortion pedal I ever heard in my 30+ years playing guitar.

Those Revv pedals are the worst. Horrendous.
Istg I thought the thumbnail was you holding the pedal with your foot. I almost had a heart attack
If I had a dollar for every metal guitar player who uses a Behringer Noise Gate Id have enough dollars to buy a better one.
I daily drive a Boss NS-2, mainly wanted to see how this one compares hahah

MXR had the colour matching, but Boss reversed that, my second and third pedals were the oranges DS1, and a green Phaser
