"Walk Like An Egyptian" is such a fun quirky song. This all girl pop rock band had a lot of hits in the 80's such as "Manic Monday", "Hazy Shade Of Winter", "In Your Room", "Eternal Flame", "Following", "Walking Down Your Street", "If She Knew What She Wants" etc.
Don't let this silly song fool you. This is a seriously talented band. These ladies rocked. Check out the official video for Eternal Flame, In You Room and Hazy Shade of Winter. I promise you that you will see them in a completely different light. All four ladies can sing lead, and when it comes to The Bangles, just remember; harmonies for daysss!
Manic Monday was written by Prince for them. Hazy Shade of Winter was a Simon and Garfunkle track. I mean, obviously they were good looking gals, and talented. The lead singer with the eyes going back and forth drove some if us nuts, but it turns out she was using a trick to combat stage fright. The bassist was in the Runaways, so you could check our Cherry Bomb for more of her. MTV, Friday Night Videos...this thing was everywhere, man.
Michael Steele, the bass player who sang the second verse is a true pioneer for women in rock she was the original bass player for the girl rock band The Runaways before joining The Bangles.
This song was more than just a "song", it was a fad back in the 80's. Everybody knew the song and people loved to dance to it. This was a MUST to play at any party. The lyrics are funny and it has a catchy tune. Even after 40 years, the song never gets old. I can watch the music video and play the song and enjoy it every single time.
I was in college and this song was everywhere. Suzanna Hoff’s side eye was the sexiest look in the 80’s! She is still beautiful today. This is a party song. The Bangles and the Go-Go’s were both great girl bands in the 80’s. Love both groups.
This song was one of their two number one hits during their career; the other one was "Eternal Flame." "Manic Monday," written for them by Prince and released in 1986, was also very popular and reached number two on the singles charts. The Bangles, along with The Go-Go's, was one of the most popular all girl bands of the eighties.
This is one of my wife’s favorite bands. They played at her college before hitting it big. Their harmonies are amazing. Each one of the four could be the lead singer.
Talented band Michael Steele -bass vocals, Vicki Peterson -lead guitar vocals, little sister Debbi Peterson drums vocals, & Susan Hoffa -guitar vocals They had a nice run of good music in the mid 80s.
@@theloneranger8725 Wasn't there friction in the band b/c the media singled out Hoffs as the primary lead singer? Perhaps it was due to most of the hits coming from her.
This was the theme song for the school bus ride home lol I will never forget the bus driver turning the volume all the way up andall us kids just go crazy. I swear the people in the cars next to us would go crazy with us at the stop lights lol growing up in the 80's was awesome!!!!
For a harder rock sound do their cover of Simon & Garfunkel's Hazy Shade of Winter, and for one that showcases their harmonies the ballad Eternal Flame, another fun pop sounding one like this one would Manic Monday
A simple, fun, super catchy song that doesn't show this highly underrated, talennted band's range. Definitely should check out more of their work. And yes, those that didn't experience it live (i luckily did) Susanna Hoffs hypnotized an entire generation of young men with her stunning beauty, unique voice and her signature smokey-eyed side glance. Still am under its trance actually.
Back in the day we didn't have any way to find out the lyrics without buying the album. I recorded it from the radio and played it over and over until I learned the words. Talk about a wasted summer vacation...
Es una de mis canciones favoritas en inglés, la escuchaba cuando era adolescente, gracias por subtítulos. Saludos desde Ciudad de Guatemala en Centro América.
Phil! So funny when Sam called it right away on what "the walk" would look like, followed by you HURRIEDLY saying we don't stereotype on this channel. Really enjoyed that!
If you want some newer all female rock bands, I recommend Band Maid and Lovebites. Band Maid is an all female Japanese rock group and Lovebites is an all female Japanese power metal band with 2 guitarists that will melt your faces off.
All 4 sing they have each a unique voice two are sisters Debbie the First singer and Vicki the whistler Second Singer is Michael Steele who alot of people don't know was an original band member of Joan Jetts band the Runaways, She left the band before they released there first album, She was replaced by Cheri Curry as lead vocals. And finally Suzanna Hoffs the final singer number three on my list of favorite female vocalist. She was the male fan favorite as well.
The Bangles with Susanna Hoffs was the Second All-Female rock band to ever hit the Billboard Pop Charts- the first had been The Go-Gos with Belinda Carlisle.
This was their biggest hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart spending 4 weeks at #1 between December 1986 & January 1987 and wound up as the overall #1 song of 1987. You should listen to their first big hit, "Maniac Monday" (it peaked at #2) but it was written by Prince. Their last #1 hit is the song that basically broke the group up, but it's my favorite, the beautiful ballad "Eternal Flame."
Susanna Hoffs...the girl who sang the last verse...there's probably not a man alive, at that time, who wasn't crushing on her, just from this one music video. I graduated high school in '83... so I was kind of a split between being a 70s kid and an 80s kid. I was a hard rock/heavy metal kid...but I secretly loved the Bangles, The Go-Gos and Bananrama. Mostly because they were all-girl groups. But also because their songs were super catchy. And that look, at the end of this video... Susanna Hoff's eyes... as she's singing "Walk like an Egyptian..." those eyes dug their hooks into boy's and men's hearts like she was on a deep sea fishing expedition, and reeling us in! 😊
I swear for 6 months, for no reason whatsoever, at any given moment, anyone or everyone would just start walking like an Egyptian. 😂 And for the record, that last one was the one that made my blood pressure rise 😊❤
This was so fun when it came out. There was an exhibit of ancient Egyptian artifacts making it's way through the U.S. at the time. It featured items from the tomb of King "Tut". So there was something of an Egyptian fad going on. Today we would say it went "Viral" or it was "Trending".
Michael Steele did it for me, beautiful and a great bassist. Everyone else fawned over Susanna Hoffs. If you really want to know just how good a band they were, check out their cover of the Yardbirds 'I'm Not Talkin'
Bass player came from the all girl group the RUNAWAYS which also had joan Jett. The Drummer whistling and the lead guitsrist are sisters. They used a drum machine on this song because of its funky time only Bangles song she didnt play drums on.
Their producer made them audition for the parts of the song over the objections of the band. The second singer wasn't supposed to sing. They started by putting their singles in record stores and going back a week later to see if any had sold. They really took off after having the second singer joining the band
The really cool.thing about the 89s was no one took themsekves too seriously. Our music waa fun abd all over the place with MTV playing it all. Wherher new wave, punk, pop or rocknit all just worked and becane our soundtrack. A great all girl pop band and an explosiion of femake artists of the 80s.
This was a frustrating song when it was released, because the lyrics were so random and we couldn't go to the internet and look up the lyrics. Good reaction!
Drummer Debbie Peterson disliked this song because it used a drum track instead of allowing her to play the drums. If you have time, there’s a video on UA-cam from their 1986 concert at a college, it shows what skilled musicians they really were and all four have beautiful voice and wow could they harmonize! Look for the version that says “annotated” because there are occasionally fun comments and information about the band at the bottom of the screen. Another video to check out is Hazy Shade of Winter, it was the soundtrack for a movie and there are scenes from the movie interlaced with their performance. Also there was a “fifth” Bangle, they had two keyboardists who alternately played either on recordings or toured with them; Walker Igleheart - keyboards (1980s) and Greg "Harpo" Hilfman - keyboards (1989, 1998-2011). The keyboards were always positioned at the back and almost offstage so they were really noticeable during live performances.

Different and wild? That's called the music in the 80s and it was a freaking blast. From 80 to 89, pure fun. And the Bangles, very hott.

The Bangles have incredible harmonies checkout their version of Simon and Garfunkels Hazy Shade of Winter another big hit was Eternal Flame
As a young adult in the 80s Suzanna Hoffs was dreamy.
Damm I remember this song was played all the time on the radio in the 80s here in Ireland. Classic.
They really rocked. That guitar solo, then the whistle section, swap singers, drop that tasty tasty bass in. ROCK LEGENDS.
Other well-known songs by the Bangles are "Manic Monday", "Eternal Flame" and last but not least "Hazy Shade of Winter".

They have a Banger titled " Hazy Shade of Winter".
That Susanna Hoffs

They were, and still are fantastic. Last I heard, they were doing shows again. My favorites are “In Your Room” and “Manic Monday”🔥🤘🏻😎
One of my teenage crush’s Susana Hoffs. She in her early 60’s is still cute as hell
Loved this song when it came out and still love it !!
It's so weird to think there are people who haven't heard this. Millions at that. Wow. Glad you got a kick out of it!!
You can still throw this on at a party. Most def.
the go go's another female band love their song "We got the beat"

"Hazy Shade of Winter" rocks out with them. Manic Monday, Eternal Flame, several more. It was a fun song for sure LOL.

This was a fun song, but they had a few other songs. The Egyptian walk, was also famous in Steve Martin's SNL "King Tut" music video.
