I was going warn you about Don Henly and his 60 people crew scouring the internet. Even though the Eagles have great music I'm at the point of saying F the Eagles and Henley. I won't listen to them. I hope this stays up and is not taken down in the days, weeks or months later that I've seen happen on other channels
This is pure rock perfection!!! Nothing beats this lead break! Nothing! I grew up listening to this in real time. I was leaving high school as this song was released! It's the greatest rock anthem ever.
As a former drummer, you have no idea how incredibly hard it is to sing while you play. Even without singing, you're doing 4 or 5 things at once. It was hard enough for me to keep from rushing as I played. Don Henley was amazing.
I’m also a drummer who’s been playing for many decades, I can play this song but if I was tasked with singing it that would turn into a train wreck, besides I have a crappy singing voice . Ha ! Bless you guys who can do it. I’ll sing along here & there but to fully do the entire song Yikes ! His brain juice and coronation is working overtime. Keep playing guys
Yes, Led Zepplin live version Stairway to Heaven Jimmy Page has a great solo on the 12 string. My first exposure was the Byrds, Mr Tamborine Man, Roger McGuinn, love the sound!
I believe, in this case, he had a capo on the top neck which he played at the beginning of the song, and the rest of the song was played on the bottom neck.
This is the music I grew up on. The Eagles were a great 70's band with so many hit songs. They were known for their great harmonies. "Take It Easy", "Lyin' Eyes", "Witchy Woman", "Desperado", "Already Gone", "Best of My Love", "One Of These Nights", "Take It To The Limit", "New Kid In Town" etc. Before they went solo they were the back up band for Linda Ronstadt.
Probably one of the best songs ever written and performed. Their harmonies were always spot on. The song is actually about the dark side of the music industry.
The Eagles greatest hits is the number one selling album in history and the Hotel California album is the third biggest selling album in history. These guys are legend
The band was originally started by drummer/singer/singwriter/ Don Henley, Guitarist/singer/piano, Glenn Frey, Bass player/singer/songwriter, Randy Meisner.
if you've ever wondered what two guitarists sharing 1 brain cell looked like, it's Don Felder and Joe Walsh. these two are just so in sync playing together it's unreal and it's like this on EVERY SONG.
I love to watch younger people watching the music of my youth(you'd call it history) for the first time. I was really excited for you, cos I knew what was coming, and when the guitar section kicked in, .. I don't know here you went, but you both went miles away. Well done, and pleased for you.
I was 15 yrs old when the Hotel California Album was released. I feel lucky to have been a teenager in the 70's. Great music great bands. I saw the Eagles couple yrs after this concert video in 1979. Im almost 63 now and still love the Eagles. RIP Randy (my heart❤) and Glenn.
I remember seeing the Hotel California tour in Frankfort Germany while in the army around 1977. I went on to see them a total of 4 times. ALWAYS a fantastic show. Watching them in 1977 I remember watching them thinking there's someone up there who hasn't been with them before. I soon figured out it was the great Joe Walsh. I was thrilled.
I think the Eagles adding Joe Walsh was also really positive for the bands performances as he plays with so much passion. I was fortunate enough to see them live!

l agree also the eagles and fleetwood mac are 2 of my favorites but my top favorite rock band is KISS. first time l heard them was 1977 l was in 8th grade at a friends house in minnesota he showed me the record and played 100,000 years l was blown away.
My favorite live version of this song was the 1998 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction performance. They are all 20 years older and haven't lost one bit of their passion. My favorite comment on UA-cam on that performance was "When you see that your grandpas are way cooler than you." Classic.
It seems the older this song gets, the more liked and respected it becomes. The double-neck guitar is a combination of a 12-string which has a more jangly sound as in the introduction, and a 6-string which the lead is played on.
Those same guitars doing the incredible duo are constantly playing the background music during the vocals just making a completely amazing masterpiece … just wow!
One of my favorite groups. Anything by them is amazing. Can't think of anything by them that I don't like. "Take It Easy" and "Desperado" are good examples.
Hotel California is one of the greatest rock songs that was ever written. And the guitar solo near the end of the song is one of the greatest guitar solos ever heard!!!! And 🎉to think that each of the band members have gone on to great solo career's with great songs that they incorporate into their live performances now when they have a concert .
As someone who has lived in California for many years, I've always taken this song kind of literally too. Many people visit and don't ever want to leave! 😅
The Eagles are still performing today. Actually Vince Gill had been touring with them the last year or two, His voice blended so well with the group. You can find some of their music on you tube.
As far as I recall only Glenn Frey has passed. The Eagles were still touring last I knew. Country Legend Vince Gill came in to fill in the empty place left by Glenn Frey's passing. The Eagles were always my favorite group. The vocals are always on point. I have been to several of their concerts and even when they came back after their breakup.. their vocals always sounded as good as, if not better than their studio versions. On top of all that.. The Eagles have had some of the best guitar players in the industry.. ever!!
The Hotle California is a Halfway House for the Rich and Famous. They go There to clean themselves of Substance Abuse and Alcoholism. "Stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the Beast." The (Beast) is their (Addiction) they cannot control. "You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave." Once an addict always an addict. The alcoholic and drug addict will always have the temptation of reverting to their old addictions. One of the greatest songs ever written. Brilliant!
This is probably the greatest live concert footage to be used as an official video. The only time I had a speeding ticket was coming back from a coal mine call at 3 a.m. in an ambulance with a broken speedometer while listening to this. It was on the radio and jamming to it. With my mind someplace else I didn't notice I passed a state trooper.
I did something similar with the song Radar Love. Trooper asked me why I was in such a rush. I pointed at the radio and said Radar Love. He nodded and said just try to keep it under the limit next time.
Y’all are opening a Whole Can of Goodness!! Along with hundreds of great songs…Then, y’all get the successful and great hits of their solo careers. My favorite Eagle is Joe Walsh (red bandana). Master Guitarist, Brilliant Producer, Songwriter! A must is: Rocky Mountain Way!
Stairway to heaven with the duel neck shows the quaily of the Gibson in early rock too...I am glad you covered that one too. Great job to the both of you and your team.
Only seen them once live. Back in the festable seating days (1sr come best seats) Stood in line for 10 houres. I should have been ealier. Worth every minute I'll never get back.
thank you for not interrupting the music. What people don't realize that the mid 60's to 70's almost EVERY day a new song came out that was a mega hit....every day!!!
>>>Purity, Tranquility, Balance, >>> In 1977, Eagles possessed NONE of those things. They were absolutely coked-up out of their heads. I lived in Santa Barbara back then, and my girlfriends Mom was one of their drug counselors. She would get calls at all hours of the night from them or their management to go to wherever they were to try to intervene.
One of the greatest songs ever written, by one of the greatest bands ever assembled. Felder and Walsh on guitar was magic. I take this as a metaphor on the excesses of leading a hedonistic, materialistic life.
@@rogerstarkey5390 So true. I'm tempted to say The Last Resort is my favorite Eagles song, but how can you have just 1 favorite? They're all masterpieces in their own right.
Don Henley and Glen where members of Linda Rondstat's backing band. When they expressed their desire to start their own band, not only did Linda give her approval, but she helped them find the rest of the band members 😊 That's just the type of person Linda is. ❤😊
Love this live version. You would, I think, love SEVEN BRIDGES ROAD and songs like DESPERADO PEACEFUL EASY FEELING, TEQUILA SUNRISE(my personal fave), THEY MUST HAVE HAD many many hits. Its a huge rabbit hole to tumble into.
I have NO IDEA why, but I never caught that drum riff at 9:21 before now. Really cool, probably be listening just for that when I hear/see this live version again.
The band has changed members a couple of times. Glenn Frey died a few years ago, Randy Meisner who left the Eagles in the late 70's early 80's died this past year. Everyone else is alive past and present. They are still touring and still sound fantastic! Vince Gill and Deacon Frey (Glenn's son) are now part of the group.
The music was written by Don Felder (White Double necked guitar) and Don Henley left the Whiskey-a-gogo club in LA, drunk one night and drove all the way to Needles, CA to find some peyote. On the way he wrote the lyrics, passing by desert hotels and contemplating his life. Henley says this is about "Someone losing their innocence, going from adolescence to adulthood, and not being able to go back" " Once you accept the responsibilities of adulthood, you can never regain that childhood innocence. " He loves that fact that hundreds of other meanings have popped up for many people. " Just a simple song about growing up."
"The music was written by Don Felder and Don Henley".....err, try Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull: ua-cam.com/video/oGvux7w1Ea4/v-deo.htmlsi=99MA0F99ky5IWeez
Wow! So many questions! I’ll see if I can answer some of them for you: First off, as someone who has played the drums professionally, I have to say emphatically that my hat is off to Don Henley for being able to sing simultaneously as he is drumming. That is something that I have rarely been able to accomplish in my life unless I know the song so well that I can ignore what my hands and feet are doing (not as easy as it sounds!) The true meaning of Hotel California has to be one of the most rumored topics ever concerning any Eagles tune. Don Henley & Glenn Fry (who wrote the lyrics) have both stated that the song could be about this or that, but neither of them have ever confirmed or denied any of the rumors about the actual meaning of the song. I was growing up in Southern California when this tune was released in 1976. At that time it was rumored that there were many references to the Camarillo State Mental Hospital that operated in Camarillo, CA from 1936 to 1997 and where patients were offered a nightly glass of wine, up until 1969 when that practice was discontinued (“We haven’t had that spirit here since 1969”). Some other interesting tidbits from the song are the lyrics “Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air”. Colitas (in Spanish) means “little buds”, possibly referring to someone smoking something other than tobacco. The line “They stab it with their Steely knives, but they just can’t kill the beast” was rumored to refer to the rock group Steely Dan, who had released their first album in 1973 and was definitely giving the Eagles a run for their money in popularity in 1976. As far as surviving members of the original band (Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner) goes, Don Henley is the only one still living who is still with the band. Glenn Fry passed away in 2016. Randy Meisner passed away in 2023. Bernie Leadon is still with us, but quit the Eagles in 1975 (by pouring a beer over Glenn Fry’s head).🍺 The “double guitar” you noticed, is actually called a Schrammel guitar. It is used most commonly by musicians who simply don’t have enough time to take it off and put on another guitar in the middle of a song. The most common configuration of a Schrammel guitar, is to have one neck set up as a 6-string guitar, and the other set up as a 4-string bass, or even a fretless guitar. The configuration that you see Don Felder using (who wrote the music for Hotel California) in the video you were watching, is configured as a 6-string guitar on one neck, and a 12-string guitar on the other neck. There have been many other Eagles band members that have come and gone over the years, and a few members that have been with the Eagles for so many years that many people falsely believe that they were part of the original band (most notably, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt), but they are not. I hope this answers all of your questions. If you have any others, feel free to reply to this message. Have a great day!
You're right, watching Don Felder and Joe Walsh play is insane! They compliment each other perfectly. I don't mean to take you on another tangent, but another incredible song that showcased guitar playing right around that time was "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits... if you get the chance.
Maryland 1977, I was at this concert. It was a helluva showcase. I lived then just outside DC. I also saw Heart, Chicago, Boz Skaggs, Billy Joel, Bread, America, Three Dog Night, Juice Newton, Dr Hook and the Medicine Show, Simon and Garfunkel, Elton John, the Beach Boys, John Mellencamp, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and many more.
@@richardjimenez2739 A good option as well. They aren't bigger than the Eagles though. The Beatles and Queen probably have em beat, but it ain't Fleetwood Mac.
You chose the right title “Is this what perfect looks like”. It’s such a great album. I think another song, that’s actually musically very different, has the same theme, “Life in the fast lane”, you should check it out. However my favorite from the album is “the last resort”, which gives me goosebumps each time. All the best from the Netherlands!
You gotta see the live acoustic version from the HELL FREEZES OVER reunion special. Hearing this played acoustically after waiting so long for them to get back together was an amazing moment.
@Precocious Curmudgeon Yea, they are one of many complain about reactors not paying for fees...I understand, but reactors trying their best to edit their videos
Yes, this one is a perfect rendition and there is another one out there. That’s my favorite song of theirs that gets blocked, blocked and blocked. I can’t stand on Henley for that. I also blame Glenn Frey before he died. It’s just plain greed. But I do love their music the one I’d love you to hear & react to is Take It To The Limit, live and I believe the same concert. Bass player, Randy Meisner plays and sings this song, but he and the two founders Henley & Frey didn’t get along and shortly after the perfect concert I’m talking about, Randy and Glen Frey came to physical blows, and Randy left. Randy was very shy and didn’t like the spotlight. take it to the limit was the usual encore, and he was afraid he could not hit the high notes that night. Frey kept on him and on him until they physically fought and Randy not long after 😢. Noone can sing it like Randy Meisner did. Joe Walsh is also a favorite because he’s such a cut up & so talented! joe is the one in the bandanna and Randy Meisner, my favorite because he is so humble, talented and kind is in this video too, on the far left with the long dark hair. If you can find take it to the limit live from i think this same concert, Randy will be wearing a light plaid shirt. Please try to do it. It’s strong with blocking but it’s even a more perfect song than this one played in concert. I just want so many people to know about that song and Randy’s beautiful voice so I try to get as many people as I can to react to it Love your channel!
I'm a lifelong Eagles fan. My true musical heroes. Saw them live from the front row in Jacksonville back in March and I will tell you that They Still Got It! Like listening to an album perfection. Glad you did this one! Peace and Love!
Your reactions are nice. After co-founder Glenn Frey passed away in January of 2016, both Vince Gill and Glenn’s son Deacon played with the band. Watch Hotel California from their Live In Melbourne 2005 concert. 4 piece horn section, extra percussionist, and 2 extra keyboard players. The entire 2 hour concert used to be on UA-cam, but I think it’s been taken down. Their licensing restrictions are very strict.

Reassuring to read 😀
Hope so--the c-holders for the Eagles especially are notoriously restrictive, so good luck!
The performance on Hell Freezes Over is better than this one. This one is close to perfection the other one just is.
This same night Randy Meisner (their Bass player) sung "Take it to the Limit" and its probably the best version ever, of my fav. Eagles song.

It's called a double neck guitar, it allows the performer to change from 12 string to 6 string quickly as Don Felder was using in this video.

Right. He plays the intro and more acoustic parts on the top neck 12 string and the distorted parts and solo on the bottom neck 6 strings
Don Henley was a most underrated drummer. This showed how good he actually was. This also showed you why The Eagles were a hit for so many years.

She would get calls at all hours of the night from them or their management to go to wherever they were to try to intervene.
@@ruserious9577 I was talking about the song, actually.
GREAT song and GREAT Riff the guitars Eagles Amazing band.......
Quickly becoming my favorite reaction channel. You guys are awesome!
Thank you! Really appreciate that!
Loved Joe Walsh's facial expressions!
One of the greatest songs ever written, by one of the greatest bands ever assembled. Felder and Walsh on guitar was magic.
I take this as a metaphor on the excesses of leading a hedonistic, materialistic life.
The whole album dealt with the infinite ability that humans have to F*** up.
The last resort is the perfect end and so relevant today.
Love The Eagles went a long way from originally forming as a country rock band until discovered and taken on tour by Linda Ronstadt.
Don, Glenn, Bernie and Randy were all veterans of different bands and werent even a band together until they were selected to back up Linda Ronstadt.
Incredible live band!! I have seen them several times including their last tour and they never miss!!!
This is one of the best songs of all-time! It’s also a landmine for reactors.
Great song, Great choice. I’m amazed you didn’t get a ‘red-card’ for this one. Eagles aggressively go after any copywriter infringements. Good luck.
chrisbutler5975. No it's just henley. He's not making his $0.02 cents off of everything. IMO Joe Walsh could most likely care less.
Only a matter of time it will be deleted.
I agree that this is absolute fire. I love the two guitars trading solos and then soloing together perfectly to close it out.
This was definitely one of my favorite songs as a kid! Peace, Love!!
Thanks for covering this icon! The Don Felder/Joe Walsh guitar duet still gives me chills.
I remember reading someone say “Walsh’s & Felder’s wives should be jealous after that.” They we’re definitely in synch.
They were amazing in concert. Saw them 4 times. Twice early on and twice on their "Hell Freeze's Over" tour. So many memories.
Saw them twice in Vegas, great show of course, big bucks of course too… worth every dime.
The drinks- more than a dime 🫤
My fav guitar bit EVER. The guitar duel or coplay is just outstanding and so unique. Unforgettable...
Wow! So many questions! I’ll see if I can answer some of them for you:
First off, as someone who has played the drums professionally, I have to say emphatically that my hat is off to Don Henley for being able to sing simultaneously as he is drumming. That is something that I have rarely been able to accomplish in my life unless I know the song so well that I can ignore what my hands and feet are doing (not as easy as it sounds!)
The true meaning of Hotel California has to be one of the most rumored topics ever concerning any Eagles tune.
Bernie Leadon is still with us, but quit the Eagles in 1975 (by pouring a beer over Glenn Fry’s head).🍺
The “double guitar” you noticed, is actually called a Schrammel guitar.
Careful guys, a number of reaction channels have been given strikes for covering Eagles tracks. Just a heads up.
Truly a happy experience! Master musicians making the best music.
You're right, watching Don Felder and Joe Walsh play is insane! They compliment each other perfectly. I don't mean to take you on another tangent, but another incredible song that showcased guitar playing right around that time was "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits... if you get the chance.
I'll second Sultans of Swing along with Money for Nothing
If you do Sultans of Swing do the live Alchemy one it's the greatest
@@carolynmorrissey1630 I'll have to check that one out myself... I've never listened to the Alchemy album.
@doncox6920
I Promise you won't regret it
The lyric: "stab it with their steely knives" is a jab at their (mostly) friendly rivals, Steely Dan.
Just raw talent!!!
Always gotta watch to see reactions of young people. Especially to the guitar solos
Yes. This IS what perfect looks like. There isn't a bigger band on the planet.
Maybe... but Pink Floyd would get my vote.
I guess you never heard of Fleetwood Mac
Queen
@@whitebeardInn I would also put Led Zeppelin above the Eagles. Although the Eagles are one of the best American bands.
@@richardjimenez2739 A good option as well. They aren't bigger than the Eagles though. The Beatles and Queen probably have em beat, but it ain't Fleetwood Mac.
Some of the best guitar jamming at the end is fantastic.
The Eagles are so good. On stage, you can see that they are having a good time. So many great songs, such an easy listen.
You gotta see the live acoustic version from the HELL FREEZES OVER reunion special. Hearing this played acoustically after waiting so long for them to get back together was an amazing moment.
That last part of guitar(rock) duel deserves an award.
Unfortunately this is likely to get a copyright strike. The eagles is one of the biggest causes of reaction channels being removed. Good luck.
Yup. It's definitely coming.
Yeah, Don Henley has a team of copyright attorneys out for blood.
@Precocious Curmudgeon Yea, they are one of many complain about reactors not paying for fees...I understand, but reactors trying their best to edit their videos
That's because the Eagles have been through copyright lawsuits before and so Don Henley is very protective of their music!!🎵🎼🎶🥁🎤🎙🎸🎹🔥🔥🔥
Yep! You've been warned.
So much fricken" history in this one song! Amazing every time!
Double neck guitar. The guitar on top is a 12 string and the bottom is six. Don Felder wrote it
x2
Saw them at Cal Jam Two 😊 .. Many artists performed ❤
This is and always will be a classic from the 70s, thanks for playing it. Its a masterpiece.
i had the pleasure of seeing them 1 week before this performance (3-14-1977) in springfield mass - it was quite a night :)
Just a heads up: a lot of reaction channels have had major problems with copyright strikes from doing the Eagles, including some bans.
I came on here to say the same thing. Eagles are rabid with banning their material on UA-cam. Reactions, beware!
In before the block!
