  • "Walk Like an Egyptian" by The Bangles is a classic pop song that was released back in 1986 and has since become an iconic song of the 80s era.
From the very first beat, this song grabs your attention with its catchy melody and upbeat rhythm. The opening guitar riff is instantly recognizable and sets the tone for the rest of the song. The vocals are delivered in a fun and playful manner, making it impossible not to tap your feet or sing along.
Lyrically, "Walk Like an Egyptian" is a playful ode to the dance style that originated in Egypt. The song's lyrics describe how to do the dance and encourage listeners to join in. The lyrics are simple and easy to remember, making it a popular song for parties and dance floors.
The production of the song is also worth noting. The drums and percussion give the song a great groove, and the use of hand claps adds a fun element to the song. The chorus is especially catchy, with the harmonies and background vocals adding a lot of depth to the song.
Overall, "Walk Like an Egyptian" is a classic pop song that has stood the test of time. Its catchy melody, upbeat rhythm, and playful lyrics make it a fun and enjoyable song to listen to. It's easy to see why this song became such a huge hit in the 80s and why it's still a popular song today. So, if you haven't already, give it a listen and get ready to "Walk Like an Egyptian"!

It was just silly and we all knew it- but we weren’t afraid to look goofy! That’s why it was so much fun. 😊

That's what was soooo great about the 80s! We had fun, we were goofy, we weren't afraid to be silly or different. So glad I was in high school/college in the 80s.

The fact that the song made people who can't dance try to dance speaks to the engaging and captivating quality of the song.

That still you have of Suzanna Hoffs where her eyes are looking to the side is one of the most iconic and sexy moments of the 80’s. I thought I was the only one that thought that when I was a kid, but EVERY one of my friends as adults, as soon as I mention this video, they instantly say “Oh, when she looks to the side….those eyes…OMG”. Every guy says it! Totally iconic..

It's really interesting seeing reactions to this video. It's a pretty spot on barometer for being aware of and in tune with female sexuality in that dudes are universally glued to the screen, mouth agape, but women are split. Women who "get it" are like "damn girl" with a respectful nod mentally taking notes, while women who have no idea literally get bored because it just seems like filler content of a closeup on someone's face. They'll use it as an opportunity to look away or make a comment or something.

Yo fellas, you should check out The Bangles' killer cover of the 1966 Simon & Garfunkel classic, *"Hazy Shade of Winter",* you'll love it! Their cover reached # 2 on the charts in 1987, and if you want to have some eye candy for your reaction, use the official music video called: *The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter (Official Video).* The video intersperses shots of The Bangles performing the song, with clips from the movie, Less Than Zero, as the song appeared on the film's soundtrack. The only actor in the shots from the film that you'll likely recognize is a young, Robert Downey, Jr., who would many years later star in, Ironman.

Walk Like An Egyptian was written by Liam Sternberg from Akron, Ohio. He had recorded a demo of it, which the Bangles producer heard, and they needed a couple more songs for their album. The rest is history…

I would gladly dance like an egyptian if I wanted to. You might look like a fool to some but forget what the others think and enjoy yourself. If you want to dance like an egyptian than dance. Personally I think the twerk looks stupid because its being overused too much. Even kids are doing it. Sometimes its best to just let your inner dance out and dance if you want to. Heck maybe we need to bring back the safety dance lol.
