Justin my Man, please review a song from my mates new heavy rock band King Herd, Karl Brazil & Tom Longworth are in it who tour with Robbie Williams, top man. Thanks in advance ua-cam.com/video/yDfqrrh0fmA/v-deo.html 👍
I think you're trying to say the drum needs to "fit" so you can hear the whole sound before it gets crowded by all the other sounds around it. Obscure pick: The Plot in You - Feel Nothing. Amazing video, ballad based, choreography is amazing. Top 5 video for me all time .. They're in this Archtect/BMTH vein but if you follow the lead singers solo act he goes full hip-hop, R&b, soul, death metal... The main band is more moderate and the singer's (Landon Tewers) solo titled act is ALL over the place and his vocals are very very good.
Admin: new scammer account with today’s date as the date it joined YT posted over 100 of the same comment. It “talks” like a jerk. Reported it. Perhaps do a warning on the next upload that this is happening? It’s got to be the same creep. Thx.
More Auckland gigs please!!! 2 Sold out. Power Station is the mutts nutts!
While you're doing metal reactions, Empire State Bastard is one to check out. Simon Neil, of Biffy Clyro, and Mike Vennart of Oceansize with Dave Lombardo on the drums.
What can possibly go wrong with that line up? Nothing, is the answer.

Feels like Justin has been reacting so many different metal bands recently ... and I love it more please
Yes!!! Falling in reverse last resort ❤
@@yeowch419Ronnie will probably take offence at Justin's criticisms and cry about him on twitter 😂

Architects are a phenomenal band and i love it when people not from that particular genre praise them in eloquent ways
They suck

Architects have been a favorite since early high school and I'm 35 now. Couldn't be more grateful for the tracks they've delivered over the years. #TomSearleForever
😢😢😂😮😮😢😢🎉🎉🎉🎉😂
You’re telling me they have been around since we were like 13-14 at least and I’m only just learning about them? That’s a fail for my friends.
@@shanaejung5952They've been around for a while, but much like Bring Me and other bands, really started to get big around 2013 or so.
Someone gave me tickets on the hollow crown tour at club academy was a fan up until all gods, don't really listen much now
They did a great show at Abby Roads with a full orchestra which is worth checking out.
seconded, the impermanence cover/redo is phenomenal
I absolutely agree!!
Your reaction when you were surprised and grooving with the song, smiling and saying “fuckin hell this is awesome” has truly made my day
He's a great drummer. Very technical but doesnt overplay, just makes them a really good, solid band🤘
I’m a guitarist ( and not a great one) but I do know agood musician when I hear one. This, I think is what differentiates a good drummer from a truly great drummer. Or musician, frankly. Knowing when NOT to play shows true mastery. There are players who might be gtechnically great, but if they don’t know when not to play, they’ll stomp over everything. Not what you want in any context. It doesn’t matter the genre.
Dan reminds me of Abe Cunningham of Deftones in a lot of ways, he can play stuff way more technical than what Architect's new material requires, yet he always plays so tastefully and for the song regardless of his chops
As Sam's vocal coach, I had the privilege of working on the singing sections of this song with him 🙏 The variations within his voice - effortlessly switching from the clean, lighter singing to gritty, belty singing through to all the different shades of screaming - are extraordinary! Appreciate seeing your appreciation :)
Upon starting this video, our cat went blegh with a hairball on the carpet! Truly Justin, you are a prophet. 😭
03:05 just like that!
Cats are pretty metal 😼
@@MariaFrancesca mine's a big daft fluff bag 😂
Still metal!! 😁
I had the same reaction! No actual hairball, but the bleh happened.
Architects are from my hometown of Brighton. I first saw them in 2009 to a very small crowd of maybe 200. Then saw them in 2019 at Ally Pally to 10,000 people. Epic band!
I really enjoy it when you can hear how much fun the band must've had writing a song. The arrangement moves all over the place without sounding like musical refrigerator magnet poetry. The kitchen sink's in there too but leave it, it fits! I'm loving this. 🤘🤘
I toured with architects are very very very very long time ago to the fact that I was interested that they had an iPod so it was that long ago. And back then they were literally children and the guitarist who sadly now passed away handed over the headphones and I put them in and I was like what the hell is this this is incredible.
I can't name how many times I've watched/listened to their 'Hereafter" video... absolute gold.
Met these guys as my band supported them before they became as huge as they are now. Top group of lads and really hard working! Love them
It's pretty great seeing you fangirl over what is probably my favourite band of the last 8 years. I'd definitely recommend Animals next and also Gone With The Wind which is some of their older stuff and has a pretty strong and sombre meaning as it was written by the founding member and now deceased Tom Searle who unfortunately passed away from cancer
Such a tight band, and you’re spot on. The silent parts are quite loud, very dynamic without being over-the-top. Great stuff.
I love how there are only subtitles for the cheerleader bits that are easy to hear 😂as if the metalcore fans would struggle to understand
I’m addicted to these videos, Justin is effortlessly funny.
Puts me in such a good mood
I love how you pick up on all the cool drum parts... grooves & fills.
I watched Architects at the Leadmill in Sheffield (England) as a supporting act to Bring Me The Horizon about 12 years ago. Nice to see both bands killing it these days
Architects are a great band. Glad UA-cam suggested your channel to me
Dan is such a unique and excellent drummer. Love that you focused on his contribution so much.
It's great to see you reacting to Architects! They're phenomenal!
Great video! I love how much you're vibing with this. I also think it's important to shout out assistant producer Mick Gordon who gives the mix a lot of extra weight with all of the synth stuff that's happening in the background (he comes from a video game background and incorporates a lot of synth into his game soundtracks).
Love that you enjoyed these guys. I feel like you'd get on as people too actually. Amazing band. Only seen them once years ago at Warped UK in 2012. Amazing live then, and knocking it out the park now. 😁
I first saw architects in 2010. Instantly fell in love with them and been a big fan since
I absolutely adore this band. Their history is tragic af, but they've overcome a ton with the passing of Tom.
And then the "fans" say some of the most deplorable shit I've ever seen when they change up their sound... stuff like "Tom would be rolling in his grave seeing what the band has become" etc.
Cue this song.
Love it.
I just love listening to justin's voice
"All Our God's Have Abandoned Us" is an absolute masterpiece, one of the best albums to just put on your best headphones and get lost in it. Do me a favor Justin and do this, focusing on the lyrics. I will guarantee there will be tears and emotions pouring out of you by the end.
Its nice how Justin can appreciate this without knowing the sort of tongue in cheek context. Where Architects have had some criticism from 'fans' for evolving beyond the typical double kick breakdown style of metal. The 'Are you happy now?' part in particular is a direct response to that.
Literally just listened to these guys for the first time yesterday.
This band means the world to me
Yes! Glad you finally covered Architects! 🙌
Wow! This is fuggin' awesome 🥁
its "Vocal Fry" screaming and "False Chord" Guterrals, although people use different words to describe both versions of the growly vox. One of my favorite teachers of that style is Mary Zimmer who does the Vocalhacks UA-cam channel.
The Clicky bass drum sound was first mastered by Scott Burns from Morrisound studios in Tampa Florida when he recorded a load of Death Metal bands. He was the first to really hone the mix to target the click of the beater on the skin as opposed to the "flump" of the bass drum. Drum mixing for this is especially prominent for effect. Someone took a lot of time to craft that sound!
Interesting that you picked up on the haunting quality of the synths as well, it's very much in the Synthwave and Witch house vein, which is one of my favorites with its haunting melodies and reverb-washed vocals over moog-ish bass sounds and 808 hi-hats (Suggested listening - Filejacker, Allicorn, Untitled Burial)
Have you heard Seething Akira? Check out their track "Metaphors". It's slightly different in feel to this but has that blend of synthy dance music and aggro punk metal.
It's always mad when Justin covers bands that I played with back in the day. Gives me + Dad points with my kids.
I absolutely LOVE your reactions Justin😂
Architects were always great, love them❤
Mr. Hawkins, you are magnificent. I enjoyed watching every minute of this. Watching you react to a metal track is something I never knew I needed. Thats getting a follow from me
I really appreciate that he actually also says bad things if he dislikes something. This makes the reviews way more enjoyable knowing that it's not just an act to please the fans of the bands he reviews.
justin, you have to check out shadow of intent. they're very very heavy, but the way they weave symphonic and orchestral elements into their deathcore makes it so unique and powerful. something like "from ruin... we rise", or "of fury" or really anything off their most recent album
Those little guitar and drum fills were darn cheeky
There was a French metal band named Hell Rules Heaven that had a song called Seven that used cheerleaders. When I heard this Architects song, I was immediately reminded of it. HRH had a great sense of groove, too.
Hey Justin
I’m coming to see you in Auckland next week 🤘🏼
With all these metal reviews of late, I saw a band called Bad Omens (supporting Bring Me The Horizon) recently - their vocalist has the most outstanding live vocal I have ever heard, an incredible mix between great melodies and brutal screams - would love to see Justin's take on the live vocal and what he makes of it!
Can’t Wait! Seeing both of them on Sunday!
His live vocal was incredible
Love Architects, I really think you’d like ‘Dead Butterflies’, really enjoy your commentary on modern metal/metalcore 🤘🏻
Architects are fucking amazing. Whatever they do.
Such a cool break down of a song
You should watch their performance at abbey road with an orchestra, absolutely incredible
Welcome to the party Justin. Architects have been up front and centre for a long time now. Watched them a number of times live and they never disappoint.
Welcome to my night mafe
516,000🎉🎉🎉…onwards and upwards, enjoy Japan and down under, see you in March 🎸👍
This channel really is growing exceptionally fast!
The studio re-cluttered itself 😁
Architects are off the fucking chain this year!
Nice, never heard of these guys before but I think I'll check them out, they sound pretty groovy and I dig that, cheers Justin. Love your videos champ ✌️❤️🤘
Keep on wading in - I’m here for it ❤
Loved hearing a drummer focused review!
Each time you do your vocal intro , I hear " good old fashioned loverboy " from queen and I love it
7:37 They finally get into the charts.......+ it's the worst thing they've done.....I HAVE liked previous Architects tracks, I prefer earlier material.......my personal fave of that genre is Erra, what I like is they have a screamer vocalist.......alternating with a "clean" vocalist.......& I really like that. But their most recent single is ALSO weak in comparison to previous releases......they have had a number 1 in America.
I really want to see this guy live.
If I had the money, I would fly in from Toronto just to see one of his concerts.
Would be a brilliant evening.
Someone film it on their phone a post a Boot-leg please.
Love these reactions 😂
Please please check about the band's history, specially Tom's fight against cancer and all the songs he wrote about that, until Memento Mori which is his farewell as a musician considering he died soon after that album was released
A band you really need to get into their history to get the most appreciation for them. Tom's story is a heartbreaker..... then Josh's time (dude's at the absolute forefront of this generation of metal riffery), to today. Great band, all thoroughly decent and nice blokes too, wish 'em all the very best.
I think they just levelled the house they designed for me.
Bloody hell!
I love Architects and I'm 5 years older than thou fella. Age is just a number.......
You’re the best!
I was hoping i would like it using words like phenomenal ..nope.. been there heard this..before
it's actually more metal-core than metal. Has elements of metal but then they usually or generally like to have that really poppy chorus parts or reverse those elements for the verses. At some point it has those pop punk elements. I noticed that most metal-core bands typically like to have those really high pitched voices during the singing parts, like your typical emo type of band
Nova twins antagonist . That’s the song. Gove that a bash Justin, I think your love it!
Would love to see you react to more Architects!
Justin, you should check out a band called Paledusk. They’re a Japanese band and I don’t even know what genre to label them as. It’s absolutely nuts.
Their latest track Rumble is probably a great place to start. But you could listen to pretty much anything they’ve done. I think they will blow you away. 🤯
The start of that last chorus gave me big Chester Bennington vibes
He got that "Blerggggh" move from Timmy Mallet
😜
Showing your age there 😁 Look at each other and say "Blerggggh"
😂
Hey Justin, always love these videos. I don't know if you take requests, but your fellow British rockers in Feeder have recently released some new stuff and have an album on the way. I'd love you to listen to one of their tracks on the channel!
Keep doing what you're doing, always good fun to watch 😄
Feeder?!?!?! I haven't heard that name in a LONG time. Polythene was a damn masterpiece. Good to know they're still kickin
*NEW* band. Lols. Keep up mate.
Would love to see a reaction video on the band Spiritbox, maybe the song Jaded or Circle With Me! Really great metal band - the lead singer has an amazing voice and she has an even better scream / growl 🤪
He did already last september 1st
Nice! Love them. You'd prolly like There Is No Us if you like this
JHRA focused on the drums, but the melody and harmony are put in play by the vocals, distorted guitar, synths and electronica. '90s dance music' (Aphex Twin and others) was an influence for Industrial and nu metal (eg Linkin Park), and that is how electronic entered metal. Following that, in the noughties bands like From Autumn to Ashes, Norma Jean and Enter Shikari similarly fused synths and electronica into metalcore.
The story behind the song is that it’s a reaction to the most vocal of Architects fans who were supercritical of their last two albums for being melodic and more hard rock than metalcore.
It might be me and me alone, but i could so easily and happily curl up in bed listening to you reading Oliver Twist.
In that weird place of not really liking it, but still appreciating how good it is and how well constructed. Take note other bands
Hey Justin, love the videos you do. Can you do a video on Ryan Adams? The man is incredibly talented and has just released 4 new albums on 1st January. Every single one has an abundance of great songwriting and R & R attitude.
Landmvrks is an awesome metalcore band from france, they are definitely worth a listen.
I only know one of there songs animals it’s bloody fire
he really goes in depth not like other reaction videos people do
Put this on to a workout and you’ll be instantly hooked
This song is a huge jab alot of criticism from online people etc, so they almost wrote a troll song to take the piss, but it's genuinely phenomenal song
Saying "The Archetects" is the equivalent of saying "should of"
Eh, "should of" is from people who mis-heard "should've", and then they believed their own misunderstanding. "Arketex" is just a regional accent, which isn't really the same...
@@GizzyDillespee they mean because the band is called Architects, it's like calling Ukraine "the Ukraine"
@@rachaelbvb1Ukraine is Russian for borderland and hence why people often refer to it as the Ukraine.
i hope you'll be reacting another architects song, because in their catalogue is full of great drum fill like dead butterfly, C.A.N.C.E.R, doomsday, gone with the winds, animals and other.
hope you enjoying it
Love it!
"Go BLEGH" is the music equivalent of shouting "DO A KICKFLIP" lol
Oh! I remember Chevelle! Neat.
Enough metalcore suggestions! We need something brutal to react to.
Nice reverb when you did your JHRA at the start, singing up close to the guitar. cool effect.
The architects - not as melodic as I would wish based on this first time listen.
Will your show be generating anything tangible for your public?
Zeppelin drums sound is a lot of bass drum with the cymbles combined at the same time with that space as you said I enjoy as well . The high hat opening is the second bass drum in a way .
If it has groove, it makes you move.
I'm officially old, my first thought was that's just noise
Metalcore is for kids. You're good.
Justin please do a reaction vid to church of the cosmic skulls cold sweat or evil in your eye. you'll love the glorious harmonies and matching outfits. a great band from notts
The chorus / refrain reminds me a little of heavy metal lover: “you look so happy when you’re carving meat”
been waiting for an architects reaction for so long! check out the song "a new moral low ground" when you get chance
