You should check out the song "Doomsday" by them next. Tom was in the middle of writing it when he died and that's reflected in the lyrics. Incredibly powerful and one of the best metalcore songs of all time.
11:51 When you go on to learn more about the band and their history with the death of Tom, i feel its my duty to say that Tom was responsible for writing much of the lyrics which Architects were famed for. My personal favourite being "Gone with the wind" which features lyrics deeply personal in his coming to terms with his diagnosis. The final 2 lines of the track utterly killed me while i saw them live early last year. "I remember when you said to me "My friend, hope is a prison""
It should be noted too that Tom was responsible for writing the song Doomsday, which I think most metalcore fans can agree was one of the best songs released in the 10's
@@fadencetv4422 they did use Toms music but its Dans song not bad for his first effort. Personally I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves for his writing. I get it’s a tough act to follow.
A fantastic band with a rich history of incredibly ambitious genre-hopping metal. It’s worth watching and listening to their Abbey Road live recording, backed by a full orchestra. Truly goosebump inducing stuff.
Love how, although I might not be a huge fan of the songs you review ; I'm still able to enjoy the explanations and interpretations you make. Your British humour is almost equal to your musician qualities.... I've been watching a few clips of this most days lately. Unmatched here on youtube. Good man, yourself.
"These Colours Don't Run" is a golden oldie with fantastic lyrical content & lyric video to boot that would be cool to see your thoughts on. Architects hardly ever pull any punches with what they're trying to say with every song & if I remember correctly Tom was also the primary lyricist for a lot of their material as well as being the primary songwriter/composer up until his unfortunate passing. Truly an inspiring presence within the world of modern metal & he will never be forgotten. ❤🤘
Guitarnado!🎸🌪 you nailed it there! 😂😂😂😂😂 00:39 😆 00:54 😂 1:16 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Justin! Next 21st january we will be able to see Uranus!!! (with a telescope, it will align with 5 more planets!🌌)😝 1:52 fearing for the life of those headphones😂😂😂 13:06 I can't wait to see that drum set! Will you get a back cymbal too?👀👀👀😄 Great you did another Architects review! Loved it!🤘🖤🤘🖤🤘🖤🤘🖤
I do hope you check out their 2013 and 2016 stuff - it's the best music to come out of metalcore. "Nihilist" might be my favorite metalcore song ever written.
I love your explanation about the production, at 10.04, you put into words what I like about this music but did not have the vocabulary to express. Yet again, I've learnt something on JHRA! Thank you! I notice the number of JHRA subscribers is climbing rapidly, and with education and entertainment this good, people are making the right decision to make this a regular go to channel.
justin please go and see this band live when they tour this year! i've seen them countless times since 2009 and they just get more and more impressive each time i see them. definitely a must watch at least once! sam carter the singer is a big fan of yours too i'm sure they'd be delighted to have you.
Dude I remember meeting you when I was a kid at a Casino Royale charity premiere, I thought you were the coolest guy. I actually got into metal and playing guitar partially because of you but as I got into heavier and heavier stuff I’d never have thought that you’d have much of a tolerance for this kinda stuff. It’s really cool to know I was wrong haha! Keep it up man, really enjoy watching you react to metal artists. I’d start listing off suggestions but don’t wanna be ‘that guy’
Wow, Never heard much from this band but this is superb, what great visuals too. Yes very movie esque. Thanks Justin again for a cool review. Always makes me laugh
I'd love a reaction from you to the band Bilmuri, I would love to know your thoughts on that band! They recently supported Sleep Token on a UK tour and they are fantastic. Emptyhanded would be a good one to check out.
I'm not a huge fan of this genre normally but this is fucking massive. Probably pissing ppl off by saying it sounds like a heavier version of Bring me the horizon? Flames incoming from both sides I expect... Lovely solo as well!
Youre not far off honestly, a former member of bmth helped produce this song, but bmth have strayed from metalcore over the years while architects are sticking to their guns and killing it rn
BMTH and Architects are sister bands - they grew up with each other and worked with each other multiple times, so of course there's gonna be similarities (also Jordan Fish produced the upcoming record).
Please listen to songs like CANCER, Memento Mori, Gone With The Wind where we get Tom's writing at it's best and that plus older material for peak architects riffing, fantastic band with a tragic yet incredible journey
Not my usual palette but I can’t get this track out of my head. Punchy, super ‘fierce’ as you say, powerful clean vocals, and a beautiful restrained melodic solo.
Absolutely excellent review. Architects are titans and I've enjoyed them for the longest time. Also great to see your "disgusted" face when the break down slaps!
Hello Justin, wondering if you would kindly consider a reaction to The Warning? I would suggest 'Evolve', 'Automatic Sun, or 'Sick'. I would be intrested in your thoughts. I have listend to rock for 40 years and they are in my top 4 favourit bands now.
Your wandering thoughts and staccato comedic delivery is something I have always enjoyed and part of what makes your reactions so daggone likeable, but I must say: Stank face Justin is the best Justin.
So, how’s that video on Mdou Moctar coming along? I suggest his performance of Afrique Victime on KEXP. (Sorry to do this on every video, but I’m banking on persistence paying off.)
Fu¢kin' §ell is right... I won't count how many times you said it. 😅 I think I like this song. 🤘🏻 Can't wait to listen to your progress on the new drum set either, as the years will pass. You'll do fine! We all know if you put the work in, there will be smashing results. 🥁
Good day to you too! Welcome to the vortex! There's a polar vortex over North America and I decided I really like that word. Wouldn't Vortex be a great band name? Maybe there is one?🤔 Anyway, carry on...
That Interstellar reference was hilarious. I'm going to echo some folks and say you should check out their Abbey Road stuff or "Dying Is Absolutely Safe" performance live at Middle Farm studios.
In my youth my girlfriend of the time said I was a swirling mass of darkness like a blackhole. 😅 In fairness, in those days, she may have had a point. I've grown a lot since then.
It’s certainly not new material, but to understand the time around Tom’s death- you NEED to listen to their song Doomsday. Part written by Tom before his death. It’s one of the best metal songs ever written imo
Every time you wear that particular shirt, I do a double take thinking for a second all your tattoos are gone 😆 (Well, only twice, I think, but I did it both times...)
You don’t have to react to it. But I think Gone With the Wind live at Alexandra Palace will put Tom and Dan and the bands love and devastation into perspective. One of the most incredible live performances by architects. When sam breaks down crying and the crowd keeps singing is so powerful ua-cam.com/video/XqF0ZBEXGlk/v-deo.htmlsi=C5hiD7xAMR-dMRFG
Baritone guitars, perhaps? Bass Vl's? I love this! The music is almost as hard as losing a sibling. I can empathise. I think and hope the Architects know they have done their friend and brother proud. The solo is Gilmour-esque. Thanks Justin!
Justin, just FYI Metalcore is a combination of Hardcore and Metal. I think you said something about electronic elements? that's not necessary for the genre, though it is seeing increased use.
What your enjoying here is Jordan fish, he is the producer and co writer. He used to be in bring me the horizon and rescued that band with their album sempiternal. He has since left bmth and is just going around producing everyone in the metal core genres albums and it all has the “Jordan fish stamp” on it. Check out somthing from poppys latest album negative spaces he also co wrote and produced all of that and many of the songs have the sonics of the latest architects material ✌️
That music did indeed sound very good, very metal, nice. Anyway, good for you for losing the cigs! I did that about 7 months ago and my body has been so happy about it. I mean, just the added stamina! For running, yes yeah for running. Anyway, I know it's bloody hard to let go but just know it's worth it.
You should listen to some of the stuff they wrote around Tom's death - some truly beautiful music
100% back this comment!

imagine being tom got that near death experience and wrote the song like that, man that gut wrenching moment always get me
“Bombs drop on the prison hope built instead” that’s in Blackhole

Need to have some breakdowns with the next Rides again jingle. Amazing band, can't wait for the rest of the album
I don't listen to much Metalcore either - but this is a stellar modern example of the genre!
Justin! I love that you love Architects! I’d also been keen to see what you think of a band called Monuments!

I hate that they no longer play any other bangers from Daybreaker live
That guitar with the flowers is beautiful.

Love it! Love your facial expressions! 😆 Really awesome video. Great vocal range.
FUGGIN LOVE YOU!!!! and of course THIS... my reaction was less analytical and more BLEGH!! 😂

Robot flying off through space - Are you thinking of the end of Space balls?
Had never heard of them and then saw them at a festival last year. I was completely blown away. Became a fan 2 songs in. Great band!
This music video was directed by Michael Bay lmao! They had some real budget for this one
I believe they utilize 7 strings to achieve G# tuning
Doomsday, gone with wind, memento mori through to songs such as animals or black hole shows how diverse yet truly talented Architects are
If you like metalcore you should check out Killswitch Engage. They are the 🐐 Imo
Are you thinking of the 1979 Disney produced film Blackhole?

Bonham tuned his bass drum high (tight) and I would absolutely NOT want to play double pedal on anything other than a finger tight and a bit head.
song "Royal Beggars" has very good chorus, melody and lyrics
