This may help people if troubleshooting lights some day. I needed to see what the Rear View Mirror Light Sensor Was doing with the high beams. If bright daylight out and you want to see high beams when signal stalk is pushed forward High Beams wont click in. Throw a sweat shirt (when parked) over windshield blocking light from back of rear view mirror area fooling it to think it is dark out. High Beams should come on. Remove sweat shirt they will go out thinking it is bright out. I did not test DRL and Low beams but they should work similarly with mirror sensor as well.
I get high beamed and flashed all the time by either on coming traffic or someone I'm behind after I pass and I'm in front I get flashed.. like I'm driving with high beams on.... seriously annoying and almost starts fights.. actually did once cause I break checked someone who flashed me from 80 to about 30. I have an F32 4series. Did not know about the adaptive headlights in detail now I get it but will always have this issue
Those headlights moving up and down is great, until it breaks. Driving down the road, suddenly headlights aim down directly in front of the car and I can’t see 5 feet in front of the car on the interstate! Take it in and they say the cars computer though the car was being towed and that’s why it aimed the headlights down
David Williams it pappend to me same problem.. how can i fix it? Is it the electric motor or some other thing? Im searching for a solution and nowhere to find it.. if anyone can help i apreciate it.. thx
When do the inner bulbs turn on? I'm trying to fix the headlight issues on a 06 330i with adaptive headlights. The main outer bulbs are HIDS and the inners are h7 but they don't turn on. It doesn't look like they are on in your video.
Hi Thanks for the video I’ve a problem on my bmw e88 in automatic light position headlights always On never turn off in daylight. What could be the problem please? Thanks 🙏
Hi guys One quick question. I have a 2013 e93 convertable. No iDrive, no auto lights switch. Is it possible to set it up so that my marker/side lights come on when unlocking the car with a remote fob?
So I know this post is really old but fingers crossed somebody can leave a comment preferably the man that did this video as he certainly sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Headlights and taillights both flashing when lights are switched on to automatic mode. Just started doing this in the last month. At the same time that the headlights and tail lights are flashing, the interior lights are also flashing .....all flashing will stop when the light mode is turned to the ON position. Dealer is telling me it's a rain sensor but my windshield wipers are not the problem. Do not want to throw away thousands of dollars going down a rabbit hole. I read that the automatic function sensor is in the rearview mirror. Does anyone know if flashing lights is a symptom of a faulty automatic adapter sensor?
I’m having (I believe) the same issue with my 2013 128i convertible. BMW place said faulty on/off switch. But thinking it may be this sensor. Have you fixed yours yet? I got this car second hand and don’t know if it has automatic wipers lol. It has some kind of thing attached to windshield behind mirror though
The 318i LCI that I currently drive doesn’t have automatic lights and it was built in 2009. Is it a question of its first owner not wanting it or is that normal.
I have the same car and after a lot of research, I think this is normal. If you don't have Xenon lights but only halogen lights, the car will just always turn the lowbeam light on as soon as you start it. The E90 LCI does not have a daytime light in the halogen version. The only advantage of using the automatic position of the switch is that the welcome light (the rings) and the lowbeam light will turn on and off automatically, and you don't get the gong/ bing when opening the door and the light is still on. If you have xenon lights, the rings are brighter than in the halogen version and will be used as daytime light. Also, there is another version of the halogen headlights without the rings. I don't know how this version behaves. Hope I could help you and sorry for "strange english", I am not a native speaker.
hello . im in a country where we drive on the left but with a left hand drive X5.. i have a problem with the TRansport authority saying that my light have to be swiched to a right hand rule mode.??? can you help me in this
You know I really don't like this feature how it does that. I love my BMW but that just drives me nuts! I've had other brands and they simply add a bright white light on the side that turns on only when you turn the turn signal on. The fog lights should only come on when they are turned on imo. Has that been changed with the 2016 models?
Depends which model BMW you own. I had a 2011 E93 and the fog lights only come on when you turn them on yourself. The cornering light was the light closest to the grill.
I drive a 2006 bmw 525xi that has a light on the switch that flashes. Also, when I want high beams, I have to hold the lever! I suspect its possibly due to mismatched components in the front end as it was wrecked and the headlights are different on each side. Is this plausible?
Hello. Which module controls the turning light? I have one error all day in my car the light and the curved arrow. I want to change the dead module but i do not know which one is. Thanks
Simple solution to headlights: auto ON always when the car is running. Canada does it and it works. Too many US drivers w/o lights at dawn/dusk/fog/rain/dark parking garages, etc. Thanks
S. T what year is your car? I have a 2011 3 series and to get only the angel eyes lit and the ambers I have to move the switch one over from the (0) position
@ I've the same problem, but i couldn't find anything that is related to DRL in the settings. I've also an 2004 E60 (with halogen reflector headlights) that have the lights always on in automode. What did you do exactly within the idrive?

@@KubiIay Go in Vehicle settings then click on "Light" or something similar (my vehicle isn't set in english). Then you have 2 options you can check, one of them is called "Daytime running lights" I believe. Uncheck it. It should now allow only the angel eyes to light up during clear weather.
I have a 2009 E61 with adaptive headlights feature, one thing I don't get is, are there headlights automatic (on/off) as well? It doesn't seem like that to me.
If the headlight setting is to the left (automatic headlights) then they will automatically turn on and off for you. You can tell if they are on or off with the little green light next to the switch. If the light is on then your headlights are on, if it is off they are off.
+Out2Explore That depends on the spec of your car. Particularly in European markets DRL will be on by default (for safety because it makes you much more visible, making it the law in some countries) so if you have that it will always be on on auto.
X5 E53 2005 3.0D auto headlight setting isn't working. The lights work fine if set to the on position on the dial but will not work if in the auto setting. Just for info, the Auto Wipers work fine. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be?
Owned the car for a year and still finding things like this!
Mine 3years still learning this
Yeah....I need to stop everything for a month or so to study this car!
This video helped me put on the lights of the rental car I have in Mallorca, Spain, thank you!
great video, answered all my questions (AND SOME!) about my bmw's headlights. thanks! :D

I really love this video because i didnt know how to turn the hyper beam on but i found the section and THANK YOU!!!
rolande damestoir noob lol :)
that fog light thing sort of caught me out last night. I thought one light was out then i turned on the fog lights and both came on. Now I know why.

Arnt those DRLs i think options in the BC buttom or idrive can turn them on and off

Question the little green LED is flashing
With my E90, the pop-up headlight washers will not work in the headlight "Auto" position, only in the "On" position.
Question please???
Why my ring light not coming on anymore when I unlock the doors ???
I have x5 m sport BMW???
He is not serious with those glasses
ohhhh glad i watched, i keep them in auto but to save the feature of them pivoting themselves i’ll keep it far to the right for now
If on automatic,do the lights shut off when I turn off car

See the turning signal fog light mine stays on all the time how do I fix that? Only when the lights are on auto
What does it mean when the green light you pointed to after placing the dial into auto mode is blinking?
It means your adaptive headlights have a fault - could be a faulty ahl module.
Thanks this helped with my mini cooper
great video glad i stumbled upon it.

(1:45)..what does it means if that green led light is blinking ??
Light modul error
My fog light flashes when the turn signal comes on... Whats that about?
I'm still confused. What is the second light for? The ones near the grill. When you turned on your lights on it was still off.
High beams

my green light indicator stays flashing when on that setting. can anyone help in why that is?
I swich to Auto-headlights, the green color lamp doesn't turn on and headlights is off.. Why? I have BMW 740 2006Year. E66
The green light only comes on when the headlights are on, which in auto mode is when it starts to get dark.
Really? Was is getting dark, dark, or full sunshine. They won’t automatically come on unless it’s dark

What about flash light
What does it mean when the Automatic Headlights led is blinking?
Thank you sir.
Still trying to figure out fog lights on my 1series...
What does it mean when the green light is flashing?
Stephen Youngblood means you have a fault in the automatic system. It's in the manual
When i turn my lights to Auto and the green LED is light, my lights are always switched on, even during the daytime, is this right ?
