- Today, we're replacing the headlight control modules on this E90 in order to fix the Adaptive Headlight (AHL) error on the dashboard! The fault code says that the step motor is at fault, but after removing the headlights, we found the true culprit and cause of failure. Check out the budget-friendly aftermarket control modules from Amazon down below, they're worth trying if you have faults like this car!

I’ve actually had both these exact issues on the exact same sides! Definitely excited to try these fixes. Thanks!! 🙌🏻
Thanks, Chris. Thanks for sharing this. My car has this system too. Have a great weekend, Dutch regards, Nico.
Thanks ! I bought the same module in amazon and now is working !
Great video explaining how to replace the module! It seems that you could also replace it by removing the wheel and the fender splash guard, is that right?
I think with the right tools and small hands you might be able too! But I think it's safer to pull the bumper. Hope that helps!
@@TheBimmerBarn I was changing my headlight bulbs recently, and I think it can be replaced like that
Thanks for sharing I know someone with the same issue. What model jacking lift you have and do if you like them? Thanks again. Artie 👍
Quickjacks 5000SLX! I have a video review on my channel. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I have the same issue after accidentally leaving the weather sealed part open during a storm 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I had this code on my car I have a standard E90 came with regular headlights that did not have that unit I had to ask somebody on Facebook how to record it it worked now I don't have to worry about it now I purchased aftermarket headlights which made the vehicle look more presentable
The other corroded pins that’s Castile connected to the headlights was corroded as well. When you did the switchover it looked at noon. What did you do and what is that part called??
My car right headlight doesn’t turn on at all not even the high beam and I do get the light on the dash do you think this is exactly what I need to fix that I have a 2012 BMW M3 e92. Thanks
Ballast needs changed if lights not coming on at all
hey bro thxs for the vid very helpful, thou I found didn't have to remove bumper and headlights, instead, removed the inner plastic wheel arches.to gain access (both sides) - left side showed connective corrasion and after replacement part fitted as per your link fixed sweet as a nut cheers Kiwi e90 335is (optioned LSD) m-sport station wagon
That’s what I was thinking. Didn’t have to remove the bumper, just go through the wheel well
Great video, can’t wait to try this out on mine with the adaptive fault . Thanks !!!
Hey man Im running into trouble trying to figure out how to change my headlights on my e92 (coding wise).
Is there anyway that I contact you for a few brief questions?
Hello, replaced the adaptive headlight unit, please could you please make a video of how to code the new unit via bimmerkode? Thanks
I have this same issue. My indicators are not working, only the low beams work.
How do I get these modules? I’m in Nigeria.
Hi, can you please help me. I have a BMW 5 series on a 12 plate & the question is which code do I need to remove side/daytime light's fault & headlight vertical aim control failure using the same method as you used to remove the adaptive headlight's. Thank you.
I'd say thank you for your video it was very informative I picked up my first 2010 E90 and those are the codes that I have I don't have an iDrive so I wouldn't be able to do anything else to it except for replacing what you indicated what needs to be replaced oh and can you tell me the model number of the his headlights that he used to see if it fits my 2010 model thank you
What if you had all LEDs? I get the light malfunction message during start up but all bulbs work perfectly
What do you recommend if I replaced the headlights I had a cracked passenger side lens I have the same adaptive headlight code on dash still after I purchased a new module for passengers side because of water on old module
There are two controllers?-one for each side left and right or one? I am comfused
If i buy new aftermarket headlights does it come with the module as well?
Hello i have 328i and my headlight got completely soaked. Is there a way i can test if the modules are good since they used like 5 or 6 modules. I don’t want to buy all of them if maybe there still good. Great video by the way
did you figure it out? same thing has happened to my e92 325i
My n51 never had that in the headlight unit as it was basic but my light came on for it so I decided to delete it and now I have no issue with it
Have a 2011 bmw 535i and I changed the battery now is saying for the left and right Corning lights are malfunctioning any tips? One why to do
I'm getting a clicking sound around my passenger side headlight when I try to use the high beams. They won't stay on. The driver side headlight got crushed in an accident. I thought there was a surge in power to the passenger side?
Im actually getting code 9CBD, 9CBE and 932c. Any help plz.
Hello, can you help me, I'm having problems installing retrofit headlights on x3 g01 2018 converting to 2021 Oem, tracking device and the vehicle doesn't even recognize the headlight.

I changed mine and now the headlights are both pointed to the far right/far left.
Did you find a solution ?
hello good day
I have a problem and wanted to ask if you can help me. I have bmw f10 and the driver side headlight is broken but it doesn't have cornering lights, my problem is i saw a headlight with cornering lights on ebay and i wanted to ask if that would be a problem if i install it
Mi headlight doesn’t turn on at all, is this the issue you had?
Hi Brother, My vehicle is Megane 4 1.5 dci 2016 Model Sedan. "Check Auto High Beam" signal appeared on my vehicle. With the ELM 327 Wi-fi device, I read and deleted the DTC fault codes with the car scanner application while the vehicle's engine was running, but these 3 DTC fault codes were not deleted; Dashboard/Instrument Cluster (11 bit) U0182(87) Data bus lamps control module, front - no communication, BCM (11 bit) B15D8(87) and B1568(04) and "Check Auto High Beam" signal still appear on the screen. Do I need to clear the DTC signals with the ignition on and the engine off? What do you think is the fault) Is the UCH faulty? Does the UCH need to be reprogrammed? When it gets dark, the automatic dipped beams are activated, but the light sensor seems to be intact, but the automatic high-to-dipped beam function no longer works. This signal appeared when the vehicle's 12 V battery was close to exhaustion, I measured the battery and read 12.20 Volts with the engine off. I bought a new battery and changed it. But the signal was not deleted. 3 years ago, the car's radio sound was close to dead, and the windows could not be opened and closed, then when the battery was changed, these problems were normal, but now they still continue. The high beams work, the low beams work, they are solid, but there is no transition from high to low to high. It is outputting a fault signal. I'll be glad, if you help me. Maybe problem is on Headlight Control Module ??
Thanks for the info and the great video!
Hi mister! Im french sorry for my words!! Lol
There is only one contrôle light or two??
Tanks you my friend!
As far as I know, there is one on each headlight
Will this fault cause the headlight not illuminate?
Nope it'll still light up, just won't move around like it should!
I’m getting codes 9CC0 & 9CBF after a rain storm , you think I should full send 2 modules and pray it works or is there anything else I should be looking at
lmao yes full send, but also figure out how the water is getting in the headlight so it doesn't happen again!
I wanted to ask and it’s not related to the headlight fault but how did you fix the active steering fault ? I really wanna fix the lights on my dash and that’s one of them lol .
Active steering could be a few different things. Best thing to do is scan for faults, and address them as such. Could just end up being a steering angle sensor, good luck!
@@TheBimmerBarn oh okay I’ll scan for faults and I appreciate that 👌👌
What software are you used no to check codes/modules.
I usually use NCS Expert or INPA/ISTA to check the faults. I have a video here: ua-cam.com/video/NbQWqmWc5qg/v-deo.html
If you can respond back to me with this question my headlamps doesn't have this item in it what does that mean My 2010 doesn't have it on the headlights
You probably have the base model headlights, halogen instead of bi-xenon. I don't believe that those models use a headlight module. Hope that helps!
@@TheBimmerBarn but I do have that engine code like yours did on my car I just don't know where or how to repair it
can someone help me . i have a bmw e91 2006 with xenon . my left low beam stopped working . i tried takin the right bulb on left side and left bulb on right side . it doesnt work . i thougt the ballast is broken but my high beam works fine . should the high beam not also be dead if the ballast is dead ??
Had this same issue. It’s the ballast.
hi, i have a bmw 323i e90. the lights turn on but remain pointing towards the floor. the two at the same time began to do so. It's pre-facelift. It doesn't have a screen but it doesn't show any errors on the board either. would this fix it? Thank you
Merhaba sorunu Bende yasiyorum siz hal ettinizmi
How much would you charge someone to do this
Who is used software
Can this cause the headlights to stay on even when the car is off and switch is in the off position
That's the footwell module. It's probably damaged
Don't code them out it's probably the headlights motors that need to be changed or the connection to them. They move the lights along with the steering wheel, other than that also check your "daylight" light, it might also be faulty so it's good to just check
Not sure if you have to program the module or even the new motors but if you do look up ista, there is ista d for diagnostics, and ista p for programming thats the one you need if you need to program anything
Any car software before 2020 will be able be tuned, programmed or flashed
Is headlight module on each side ?
Yes, one for each headlight!
Have you had any issues with the cheap module? Currently deciding between used OEM and new aftermarket. They're pretty comparable in price.
I'd buy 2, since one of them came broken out of the box. Otherwise a great fix, worth saving the money!
@@TheBimmerBarn awesome! Just was curious if you'd had any issues since the video came out!
What's is the app for coding?
What kind of jacks are those
Quickjacks 5000SLX
I'm not getting any codes but all of a sudden my lights won't turn left or right on my e92 any idea why those would you just stop?
Have you found out what the issue might be? I'm having the same problem.
@@davidbrugger292 I ran a test with a scanner moving them up and down left and right and they started working again try disconnecting your battery leave it off of 15-20 minutes and reconnect it if that doesn't work let me know also make sure you're turning the wheel to the right the life is easier to spot because the range goes further than it does left. Also when you turn make sure you're not seeing the other bulb light up the one that's on the inside the one that goes on when you turn right or left or backup.
@@petercan1020 Thanks for the info. I'm new to BMW ownership. It's a 2007 328xi. Will I have to re-register the battery?
@@davidbrugger292 not sure don't think so
I'm gonna code mine out. Not worth the headache.
How?
I used INPA
thank you
Something important that you forgot is to change the seal of the adaptative module housing!!!!
I switch to led and I get that symbol now
You need to code out that error, look on your local facebook groups for someone that offers bmw coding, or go buy a cable and diy!
why oh why do people do mods that ruin their cars, the headlights were designed to be sealed besides the vent. I have a customers E92 in for the same thing right now except the water intrusion was caused by someone half a$$ing a bulb installation at a body shop. Replacing the entire headlight and installing a used set of modules from ebay, I will post a video about it
Because they don't want to pay a dealership $1500 to replace a $40 bulb.
Bro you you should have left the plastic cover on the module to prevent water from going in agian
Exactly the new one looks improved to be water tight 😂
still have fault in
nearly identical they look exactly the same.
I'm here. I drive a 2010 mini Cooper s, a 2003 BMW 330xi, and a 1995 BMW 530it

@@TheBimmerBarn how do you fix the active steering fault light ? I really need help diagnosing and this video was very informative. Helped fix my adaptive headlight situation !
