- Maestrale class was developed based on experiences from the previous Lupo class frigates, but has some differences in displacement and weapons fit. Maestrale has a displacement of 3000 tons, about 500 tons heavier than the Lupo class, and incorporates more sophisticated and powerful antisubmarine weapons than the Lupo class.
Maestrale-class frigates were powered by a combined diesel or gas propulsion system integrating two shafts with five-bladed propellers. Two gas turbines Fiat-General Electric LM-2500 developing 25,000 horsepower each can be used, or 2 motors GMT 230-20 DVM.

During the first attempt by the Philippines to purchase the Maestrale it would've included some more Italian products including Arisgator, helicopters (eventually the AW-109 but there were talks about AB-212's) and possibly an LPD. Sadly the Italian offer was found to cost much higher than what the Philippine government expected. The Koreans also came in to the picture by providing an offer that basically said they could offer 2 new ships for the same price which eventually became the controversial Jose Rizal class frigates. There were talks that the Italians were disappointed with the Philippines backing out from the purchase so let's see if they are still willing to talk should the Philippines government decide to look at Maestrale again.

Very informative video mister Dung and sir Nico the narrator thank you for sharing this vlog. Yes it is true, it is unlikely that acquiring a two units of modern light frigates from South Korea for the Philippine Navy are not sufficiently enough to enhance and equipped the Philippine naval fleet so there for the government of the Philippines should try to reconsider for the possibility on acquiring at least 2 unit of the Maestrale Class heavy frigates in order to increase and strengthen the number of the naval assets and capabalities of the said naval forces. When the previous administration has express an interest for the possible acquisition of the Maestrale Class ships from Italy in 2012 it has been resulted into a positive views and warm acceptance to the public. But in 2014 the proposal has been withdrawn and canceled with no particular and valid reason.
Four Maestrale class (a.k.a. "venti" = winds class since the names are italian winds names) ships (Grecale, Libeccio, Scirocco and Zeffiro) were upgraded between 2005 and 2010. The upgrade included enhanced radar, sensors, telco systems, upgrade to propulsion system, ...
Scirocco was retired from service in frebruary 2020.

Supposed the Italian should offer it in favorable price that the Philippines can easily get it for soft loan like what Japanese and Korean did, but be sure that all the ship content weapons and machinery are intact and refurbished well.
Still ok but it will not last longer anymore for it is too old, if they will sell it to to the Philippines should be in a friendly price like buy one take four with complete weapons as a frigate.
the Italian government is not asking for money for the ships. these ships will be donated by Italy to anyone who requests them (friendly countries of course) but as you said in your comment, they are old ships and therefore need to be modernized. the modernization has a cost that varies according to the needs that the new owner will require. Indonesia has requested 2, the cost to modernize the 2 ships to meet the needs of the Indionesian navy amounts to approximately 260 million euros. the units will be equipped with new propulsion systems, the main gun will be replaced with the new super-rapid oto melara 127/64, aster 15, aster 30 vertical launcher batteries, and will also be equipped with the new advanced avionics system by Leonardo. they will be units fit for the 21st century
if the philippine navy is not getting any destroyers soon . i think they should buy two of this ships after the corvettes . but this 30 yr old ships should be cheap

It'd be better for PH Navy reconsider getting Maestrales but only as Patrol corvettes/frigates to reduce initial costs, & reduce sustenance costs since they're old. Or upgraded later
Exclude Albatros-Aspide system & Otomat missiles. All the removed old/outdated equipment will have no replacements, except of course for nav radars, FCRs for the 3 autocannons, & other basic necessities. 1 DARDO will be relocated to the hangar & the other will replace Albatros' position.
Or they can be developed later by installing Sea Ceptors, S-band search radar, VULCANO guided shells, drones ...
Or will even have 4-8 Aster-30 or SM-2MR missiles in place of the already removed Otomat missiles

The FREMM ship shown is a french one, the italian ones are different in the exterior and have different capabilities.
The italian ASW versions are Virginio Fasan, Carlo Margottini, Carabinere and Alpino.
Maybe this ship will deliver to INA Navy
