@@michaeljohnson4258 To detect submarines, Kirov has anti-submarine helicopters and sonar systems (including remote ones, submerged to a depth of 200 meters). In addition to a wide range of helicopter anti-submarine bombs and torpedos, Peter the Great has RBU-1000, RBU-12000 and Vodopad, which can destroy torpedoes and submarines up to 3 km and 50 km away. Paket-NK and Otvet will be installed on Admiral Nakhimov. If Kirov is not protected from submarines, then no surface ship is protected from submarines and submarines are invulnerable and are the ultimate weapon. That's just not the case.
As I understand it, Nakhimov will be armed with Zircon and Caliber missiles. If so, then for several years it will be the most powerful ship on Earth. It will only be possible to destroy it with a few US or Chinese AUGs after the cruiser spends the Zircon missiles. Another option is a nuclear ballistic missile strike. However, the S-400F can most likely shoot down all the blocks of one such missile. Remains a massive attack on one ship. Another option is a submarine attack, but these ships in the USSR were originally built as anti-submarine.
The Kirovs have anti submarine capability, but outside the range of landbased Russian naval aviation, they would be at a severe disadvantage against the USN in the open ocean.
History has shown that no matter how powerful the weapons we make, the temptation to use them gets greater, and that can only mean horrible deaths and suffering. The most powerful ship can easily be sunk by submarines.

Russian’s modernized version of the Bismark and Yamato, epic!
Both sunk by overwhelming enemy strength and actions in epic battles, in their short lives. Bismarck was sunk only after an eight-month career conducting only one offensive operation codenamed Rheinübung mainly against merchant ships. The only time Yamato fired her main guns at enemy surface targets was at American troop transports and little poorly defended escort carriers. And the weakly protected light escort carrier group of the U.S. Navy's Task Force 77, "Taffy 3" scared the mighty Yamato and the Japanese to break off the attack and retreat. Hopefully, the Project Orlan heavy nuclear-powered battlecruiser Pyotr Velikiy and her sisters have a much more illustrious history.

From HMS Dreadnought to Pyotr Velikiy the history of battleships has been very eventful
Pyotr Velikiy is a battlecruiser, not a battleship. A battleship is a large armored warship with a main battery consisting of large caliber guns. The Pyotr Velikiy is a guided-missile cruiser.
@@mughug9616 agreed, but by today's standards the Kirov class is the most heavily armed and armoured surface combatant present in any navy. @@michaeljohnson4258 To detect submarines, Kirov has anti-submarine helicopters and sonar systems (including remote ones, submerged to a depth of 200 meters). Great documentation, spasibo druzya!
The Kirovs have anti submarine capability, but outside the range of landbased Russian naval aviation, they would be at a severe disadvantage
against the USN in the open ocean.
@@TheLAGopher A massive attack by several submarines is likely to be successful with acceptable losses.

All of the technology to build the Lider is already developed, for example the Russian Navy can choose whether to use the RITM-200 marine reactor which is already being used by the Project 22220 icebreakers or the newly developed RITM-400 reactor which destined for use in the Project 10510 Lider icebreakers.
