At 68 yo, I used OTC Adapalene (aka Differin) for anti-aging (sunspots, increased glow and hopefully increased collagen production) 3-4 nights per week. I was thinking, "Meh," and took a break for a few months. I recently started again and absolutely am convinced of the subtle yet positive results. No irritation, no peeling, no dryness. Will continue. ❤

That's one the many many reasons i adore Doctor Andrea and to put it more specifically is that she says the actual truth no matter how boring or bland or common it may sounds. "Opinions vs Facts" and that titan like battle shows us that there aren't robust or even no existent clinical studies and trials that go through all that trouble comparing different types of retinols and their efficacy on individuals. Of course the companies have to deal also with the issue of formulation and retinol's stability if they have to come with head to head comparing retinols. To put it more simply like Doctor Andrea said to her video, retinol is converted into retinaldehyde, aka retinal, that is further converted to retinoic acid. So that only changes the steps from two to one big deal. The retinol thing in my humble opinion is not like level in a game that you have to upgrade to be more strong or robust but more like of calming walk in which you think and decide without external manipulative interference. Thanks Miss Andrea for explaining the benefits and side effects of retinol and retinaldehyde and also debunking those pesky myths around them. ❤😊😇👍🙏😍😎👍 (hail to retinol in general 👑😊😂).

Do you mean the purple cerave renewing is better than the blue cerave that says resurfacing? I just bought the purple one renewing yesterday but I have been seeing lots of ppl think the blue resurfacing is better/stronger.. I am 54 so really want the better one for my age.

Great content as always! Thank you Dr Dray! One request, I would love to see your recommendations about pimples. I don't have acne anymore, however I might get a pimple occasionally. I always hear what I am not supposed to do 🤣. But I never heard what I am supposed to do. Can I make something so it will go quicker? Or not leave a mark? I am dying for your recommendations! Have a great day 😘( Idea for a future video)

That’s a good point. I’m in the same boat. If I treated myself for acne I’d melt my face off, but I do get the occasional pimple. I’ve been trying all different spot treatments she recommends. Hero patches, benzoyl peroxide, sal acid spot from cerave and cetaphil. She recently called out Paula’s choice azeleic acid for helping get rid of the red mark. All of these help but I haven’t figured out my favorites yet. I think the cerave spot treatment is really good. I don’t like the bleaching risk of the benzoyl peroxide so I put that on for “short contact therapy” about 5-10 mins before I wash my face. Seems to help! Curious if anyone has any HG recommendations for spot treatments?

Hi Dr. Dray, since you are discussing retinol, is it true that tretinoin degrades under inside light from light bulbs, phones, TV etc. I saw a dermatologist say we should put tretinoin on and take off lights and go to bed immediately. Wonder if you can offer some advice. Live your channel

There are many new Retinol products in the Korean skincare market these days. It seems like OTC Retinol only recently became an ingredient in Korean brands. 2 years back I could only find Paula's Choice but now Korean brands such as CosRX, Innisfree, Mamonde, Some by Mi, Frankly, Simplica, Doctors etc have their own Retinol products. Can you please review these products.

My acne is under my chin and im taking break of my face workout exercises too.

We don't have otc Differin here and I don't want to bother with a Tretinoin prescription.
Kinda randomly started on the CeraVe stuff, since it was newly available here in Germany last autumn and pharmacies were promoting it quite a bit.
I honestly can't say much about the anti-aging properties, as my 42 year old hide was still fairly smooth and even to begin with...but I did notice a reduction in oilyness and a very visible shrinking of the gunk filled 'craters of doom' on my nose. And for that alone, it's worth the money for me!
My skin is slightly more sensitive now, though. Before, truly nothing would faze it. Now most chemical sunscreens are a bit of a problem, sadly.
I don't really use any other potentially irritating actives atm, because of that.
I would like a less expensive product to use on my neck, decollete and hands, though.

  • @lucyj8519

I realised this when I tried the Geek & Gorgeous A-Game 5 and then the 10. The 5 gave me so many pustules for 6 months straight. I barely have acne without actives involved in my routine. I tried the 10 solely because I had it in my drawer, went away within 2 days and never came back. I genuinely believe that their lower, suspiciously affordable strength has had it‘s formula compromised. Worth noting I have rosacea and I am perfectly fine with retinaldehyde 0.1%. Couldn’t tolerate tretinoin at all though. The skincare influencers telling people with rosacea that they have to use a 0.2 retinol is absolutely wild to me.

    Hi Dr Dray,
Firstly, thank you for all of your fantastic videos, they are so helpful and have such good and to the point information.
I wanted to ask something about retinols. I used prescribed tretinoin a few years ago for acne and it was really great. I have had some of it come back so I want to try again, but I am so scared to use a retinol again because of the purging.
Is it necessary to purge again when using retinol for the second time or third time, or is the skin sort of 'done with' the purging phase from way before? 🥴❤

I live in a tropical country so it's sunny almost all year round. I always use it no matter what the weather is. It is used in the evening. The two most important things to accompany tretinoin use are moisturizer and sunscreen. Extra protection would be using sun hat or basically stay in the shade. Sun tanning should be a thing in the past if we follow dr. Dray's suggestions.
