That's one the many many reasons i adore Doctor Andrea and to put it more specifically is that she says the actual truth no matter how boring or bland or common it may sounds. "Opinions vs Facts" and that titan like battle shows us that there aren't robust or even no existent clinical studies and trials that go through all that trouble comparing different types of retinols and their efficacy on individuals. Of course the companies have to deal also with the issue of formulation and retinol's stability if they have to come with head to head comparing retinols. To put it more simply like Doctor Andrea said to her video, retinol is converted into retinaldehyde, aka retinal, that is further converted to retinoic acid. So that only changes the steps from two to one big deal. The retinol thing in my humble opinion is not like level in a game that you have to upgrade to be more strong or robust but more like of calming walk in which you think and decide without external manipulative interference. Thanks Miss Andrea for explaining the benefits and side effects of retinol and retinaldehyde and also debunking those pesky myths around them. ❤😊😇👍🙏😍😎👍 (hail to retinol in general 👑😊😂).
I really appreciate all the work you do. I live with Psoriasis on my face and was at a complete loss to treat my skin. Your advice and the information you provide has helped manage it when prescriptions failed.

Just wanted to say, because of you, people in my life come to ME with questions about skincare 😂 As I relay what I learned from you, I've seen improvements in skin plumpness, general understanding of the skin, and all-around knowledge of how to look critically at ingredients instead of what I used to do -- which was blindly buy what a beauty influencer bought 😂 Thank you so much for your wealth of knowledge!!! I just started using it within the last few months and I like to layer it on. I put a light layer of a moisturizer, then retinol then another layer of moisturizer.

In morning, apply sunscreen above or atleast 30 SPF To clean my face, should I use facewash with vitamin C? What do you think
Thanks for the info. I used trentinoin years ago. I started using again, starting every 3 days for a month, then every other day for a month, then every evening . It takes time to get used to it, but have patience.
I was on Tret and it was sooooo helpful with getting rid of my acne. Unfortunately I stopped using it when skin was clear and then decided to restart with retinol and I broke out again. So I decided to just use retinol (Neutrogena and CeraVe) instead of Tret because it’s not as expensive. That way I can continue using it in my routine forever. Thank you for your video! It helped me so much.
Thanks Dr, this is great information! I love and used the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair fragrance-free moisturizer for 1 whole year and I found that really helped me to prep my skin for when I switched over to tretinoin😍
I have been using Neutrogena Retinol Pro .3% for 5 weeks and love the results, my skin looks brighter, and smoother. I can't use it under my eyes area as it causes irrigation and dryness but I apply on the rest of my face, neck and hands.
the cerave resurfacing retinol serum is fabulous! it’s very gentle and applies beautifully on oily skin! it leaves your skin so silky! i used lacer’s retinol before and it was super greasy, goopy and oily!
I've used the Neutrogena off and on for year, dont like the smell when on my face, so I use it on my arms for sunspots at night. I use the Cerave Resurfacing Retinol Serum 1-2 nights a week. It smells good but it makes my face peel alot so thats all I can handle.
I had the same problem with the CeraVe Retinol Resurfacing Serum. I didn'tike the texture and dried out slightly burned my face. I wanted to like it. But now I am back to Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum. It is super silky and not drying.

Hey Dr. Dray! - I just wanted to say, I've been watching you for a long time, and your content is always great... your camera presence has really come a long way since your early videos! Good for you! =)
Great video thanks for sharing 👍. My thought is to go with CeraVe Renewing Retinol Serum as I'm not a new hand at retinol, seems more geared to anti-aging and love that it is in a pump.
Do you mean the purple cerave renewing is better than the blue cerave that says resurfacing? I just bought the purple one renewing yesterday but I have been seeing lots of ppl think the blue resurfacing is better/stronger.. I am 54 so really want the better one for my age.
Great content as always! Thank you Dr Dray! One request, I would love to see your recommendations about pimples. I don't have acne anymore, however I might get a pimple occasionally. I always hear what I am not supposed to do 🤣. But I never heard what I am supposed to do. Can I make something so it will go quicker? Or not leave a mark? I am dying for your recommendations! Have a great day 😘( Idea for a future video)
That’s a good point. I’m in the same boat. If I treated myself for acne I’d melt my face off, but I do get the occasional pimple. I’ve been trying all different spot treatments she recommends. Hero patches, benzoyl peroxide, sal acid spot from cerave and cetaphil. She recently called out Paula’s choice azeleic acid for helping get rid of the red mark. All of these help but I haven’t figured out my favorites yet. I think the cerave spot treatment is really good. I don’t like the bleaching risk of the benzoyl peroxide so I put that on for “short contact therapy” about 5-10 mins before I wash my face. Seems to help! Curious if anyone has any HG recommendations for spot treatments?
Always so helpful! I have had to go back to square one... 💜💜💜Big issues is wanting to use other skincare but tretinoin irritates so much I don't feel I can (besides moisturizer of course...)
Hi Dr. Dray, since you are discussing retinol, is it true that tretinoin degrades under inside light from light bulbs, phones, TV etc. I saw a dermatologist say we should put tretinoin on and take off lights and go to bed immediately. Wonder if you can offer some advice. Live your channel
There are many new Retinol products in the Korean skincare market these days. It seems like OTC Retinol only recently became an ingredient in Korean brands. 2 years back I could only find Paula's Choice but now Korean brands such as CosRX, Innisfree, Mamonde, Some by Mi, Frankly, Simplica, Doctors etc have their own Retinol products. Can you please review these products.
These are all my questions 😊 Thanks for this. I started with a Retinol serum 0,5% and I changed to the Ordinary 1% and I feel that the Ordinary one is lighter. I thought it was my imagination 😅
I started with 0.2 to see how i would react for 5 weeks. I m having now 2 acne and dont know if its of my cycles or niancinamdie of the ordinary or retinol lol. However, I am thinking to switch end september to 0.5. My acne is under my chin and im taking break of my face workout exercises too.
I used to be prescribed for Tretinoin a while back. Someone recommended using Neutragena with alpha-hydroxy to handle the flaking. Worked great for years until the price kept going up on the Tretinoin.
Hey doc, what’s good for anti aging for neck? So many neck vids (not yours but all over UA-cam) that I can’t decide if neck cream with Retinol is the best?
We don't have otc Differin here and I don't want to bother with a Tretinoin prescription. Kinda randomly started on the CeraVe stuff, since it was newly available here in Germany last autumn and pharmacies were promoting it quite a bit. I honestly can't say much about the anti-aging properties, as my 42 year old hide was still fairly smooth and even to begin with...but I did notice a reduction in oilyness and a very visible shrinking of the gunk filled 'craters of doom' on my nose. And for that alone, it's worth the money for me! My skin is slightly more sensitive now, though. Before, truly nothing would faze it. Now most chemical sunscreens are a bit of a problem, sadly. I don't really use any other potentially irritating actives atm, because of that. I would like a less expensive product to use on my neck, decollete and hands, though.
I realised this when I tried the Geek & Gorgeous A-Game 5 and then the 10. The 5 gave me so many pustules for 6 months straight. I barely have acne without actives involved in my routine. I tried the 10 solely because I had it in my drawer, went away within 2 days and never came back. I genuinely believe that their lower, suspiciously affordable strength has had it‘s formula compromised. Worth noting I have rosacea and I am perfectly fine with retinaldehyde 0.1%. Couldn’t tolerate tretinoin at all though. The skincare influencers telling people with rosacea that they have to use a 0.2 retinol is absolutely wild to me.
Hi Dr Dray, Firstly, thank you for all of your fantastic videos, they are so helpful and have such good and to the point information. I wanted to ask something about retinols. I used prescribed tretinoin a few years ago for acne and it was really great. I have had some of it come back so I want to try again, but I am so scared to use a retinol again because of the purging. Is it necessary to purge again when using retinol for the second time or third time, or is the skin sort of 'done with' the purging phase from way before? 🥴❤
Thank you for your advice with retinol products. I will be trying Neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair. I have been using skin cuetticals retinol 0.5 and haven't noticed difference with 2xweek for months. Maybe need to use more often. What do you think of skin ceuticals.
thank you for the scientific clarity. I am still a bit confused about how to go about if my concern is acne and I don't want to use tretinoin? are the products you have recommended still fine for acne treatment? thank you
I'm using ROC's Retinol Anti-Wrinkle Serum and Night Cream for about a year, and my blackheads and pores have improved a lot, but if I want better anti-wrinkle and anti-aging, I should switch to vitamin A directly, right?
Hello! I am using Tretinoin 0.025% for the last 14 days.My question is if I can use it during the summer months (on vacation)or stop it ? Waiting to hear from you Thanks! 😍
I live in a tropical country so it's sunny almost all year round. I always use it no matter what the weather is. It is used in the evening. The two most important things to accompany tretinoin use are moisturizer and sunscreen. Extra protection would be using sun hat or basically stay in the shade. Sun tanning should be a thing in the past if we follow dr. Dray's suggestions.
Could you please comment on the European Union’s decision to limit over the counter retinols concentration to 0.3% by 2024? I find this crazy ,if this efficient enough?

Thanks for watching
Great timing. Going to see my dermatologist next week to discuss retinol and this info will help me better understand the subject.
Omg I just bought Neutrogena retinol for the first time in my life yesterday and used it last night, your video is right on time lol
Thanks so much! I believed a lot of these myths and this info was sorely needed.
Glad it was helpful!
I really appreciate all the work you do. I live with Psoriasis on my face and was at a complete loss to treat my skin. Your advice and the information you provide has helped manage it when prescriptions failed.
Hi Dr. Dray! You're helping myself and people all around the world who can't otherwise afford to see a dermatologist unless in dire circumstances, and sometimes not even then!!!!
I just started using it within the last few months and I like to layer it on. I put a light layer of a moisturizer, then retinol then another layer of moisturizer.
This is great and perfect time as I am helping my cousin start down a skincare journey. Thanks as always!
Thanks for watching
Makes sense. And yet another dermatologist pushes retinaldehyde as being the best. I’m changing my thinking on that.
I have used tretinoin for 16 months and did get milia on the sides of my nose so I had to stop use it. Think I will try retinol. Thank you for this video.
Does your formula have mineral oil in it? If so, switch to the gel.
Thank you so much Dr. Dray! I was about to change from retinol to retinal but i decided to check what you have to say about them first. I'm so glad i did.🙂
I appreciate your factual and informational videos, you are an important resource for me
Hey Should I use retinol and hyaluronic acid like this below-
Step 1. Damp my face
Step 2. Apply hyaluronic acid
Step 3. Apply moisturizer oil free
Step 4. Apply retinol
Step 5. In morning, apply sunscreen above or atleast 30 SPF
To clean my face, should I use facewash with vitamin C?
What do you think
Thanks for the info. I used trentinoin years ago. I started using again, starting every 3 days for a month, then every other day for a month, then every evening . It takes time to get used to it, but have patience.
Can you buy tretinoin without a prescription?
@@Jasmian No
@@Chris71151 thank you for fast reply. So you go to the doctor and ask him/her to write a prescription?
I've been using Neutrogena Retinol Pro + .5% power serum. I use it 3 to 4 times a week at night time . I was thinking of changing it but now I won't 😅
It helped me so much.
thank you so much for itnroducing me to Cerave, honestly its my go-to brand, it just works without making my skin itch
You have such great content. Thank you! Have a wonderful day!
Thank you! You too!
i'm glad to see your updated video on retinols, it helps me feel reassured that i'm using up to date knowledge
Hello, would you recommend CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum or Neutrogena retinol boost? :)
I love this! I’m in Houston as well Dr dray and mainly focus on oily acne prone videos. I love all your videos bc you don’t focus on time. Even if it’s not something I’m interested in, I listen to you bc you drop 💎 gems and I learn something bc your rant beautifully ❤❤❤❤ especially in the dollar tree videos! I love those the best! Thank you
Thumbs up. I use Maelove retinaldehyde. Thanks and have a good day Dr Dray
Hey Dr.
What step in my skincare routine is applying retinol? Right after washing your face? Before using serums and other things?
Always so helpful! I have had to go back to square one... 💜💜💜Big issues is wanting to use other skincare but tretinoin irritates so much I don't feel I can (besides moisturizer of course...)
Thanks for watching
I am so glad you made this video!!! Thank you!!!
Dr Dray is Beautiful, Smart. I want to be like her when i grow up ❤
I've been waiting for a topic like this!
Thanks for watching
Great video! You're the OG de-influencer before that even became a thing
I absolutely needed this explained!! Thank you so much for this info
Thank you Dr Dray. 🙏🙏🙏 I appreciate your wisdom and your recommendations. 🙏♥️🔥
Dr. Dray looks gorgeous with this light subtle eye make up. Amazing video as always with no bs
Hi Dr. Dray, since you are discussing retinol, is it true that tretinoin degrades under inside light from light bulbs, phones, TV etc. I saw a dermatologist say we should put tretinoin on and take off lights and go to bed immediately. Wonder if you can offer some advice. Live your channel
Thank you for being correct and onest. Help me choose the what retinol to get next thank you!❤
There are many new Retinol products in the Korean skincare market these days.
Retinol can have different strength. Lower dosage better for begginers
I used to be prescribed for Tretinoin a while back. Someone recommended using Neutragena with alpha-hydroxy to handle the flaking. Worked great for years until the price kept going up on the Tretinoin.
Great video. I had this question floating around in my head for a few days
You are an AWESOME Dr.!!!
I ADORE YOU!! and your wealth of information/opinions, whatever you wanna call it! 😘
Hey doc, what’s good for anti aging for neck? So many neck vids (not yours but all over UA-cam) that I can’t decide if neck cream with Retinol is the best?
Thanks Doc, I had some worries due to having eczema, but I'm gonna give it a shot👍
How do you feel about La Roche Posay’s retinol with B3 face serum? I’ve been using for a while but not sure if it’s efficacy
Hi Dr Bray, can you use retinol around the eye area? Planning on trying the cerave one. Thank you!
❤❤ thank you for such a clear video on retinol
Just want to say Dr. Dray looks very pretty.
We need a part 2 to this. On how to use retinol for beginners
Thank you so much for your valuable information.. you have helped me a lot.❤
How does the neutrogena “pro +” retinol differ & compare to the original rapid wrinkle repair? Thank you
Hi Dr Dray so excited to be here happy Wednesday I live for this ❤️
Morning!
Same. I watch them all.
Dr dray looks so nice in black
My derm got me to try Differing. But unfortunately all it did was make my skin super red 😔 it was too harsh for me.
Thank you for all your content btw I love your hair and makeup in this video!
I started with retinaldehyde and I didn't have any irritation whatsoever.
Hi Dr Dray,
Firstly, thank you for all of your fantastic videos, they are so helpful and have such good and to the point information.
Thank you for this video. Great information.
I used Retinol 2.5% Evening and morning . No side effects on me .
I am still a bit confused about how to go about if my concern is acne and I don't want to use tretinoin? are the products you have recommended still fine for acne treatment? thank you
try the Differin 1% (adaptelene).. Sold at most drug stores
I'm using ROC's Retinol Anti-Wrinkle Serum and Night Cream for about a year, and my blackheads and pores have improved a lot, but if I want better anti-wrinkle and anti-aging, I should switch to vitamin A directly, right?
There is definitely retinol for beginners…..
Can you buy it without transcriptio
“Eh eh eh! You can take several steps back!”😂
Could you please comment on the European Union’s decision to limit over the counter retinols concentration to 0.3% by 2024? I find this crazy ,if this efficient enough?
Question: is CeraVe retinol also good for acne? Cause here in Italy we do not have adapalene😔
Thank you🌺
This was so helpful! Thank you so much 😊💜
Thank you very much for sharing your extensive knowledge.
