Cosmas of Aetolia, sometimes Kosmas of Aetolia or Cosmas/Kosmas the Aetolian or Patrokosmas "Father Cosmas" (Greek: Κοσμάς Αιτωλός, Kosmas Etolos; born between 1700 and 1714 - died 1779), was a monk in the Greek Orthodox Church. He attended public schools, but was tutored by an archdeacon. He taught and then attended a school on Mt. Athos. He became a monk and later a priest at Philotheou Monastery where he remained for two years. After a time, he felt a calling to do missionary work in Greece, especially in the remote areas where there was a lack of churches and priests for the many unbaptized adults. As an aftermath of four centuries of Turkish oppression in Greece, Kosmas received the patriarchal blessing in 1759 to travel wherever needed, for however long, with complete independence, to breathe life back into Christianity in Greece.
Saint Cosmas, the "Equal to the Apostles," was officially proclaimed a Saint by the Orthodox Church of Constantinople on 20 April 1961. His feast day is celebrated on 24 August, the date of his martyrdom.

My Deacons’s family lived in Vithkuq and Korçë in the lands of Southern Albania for the centuries and many of his ancestors studied in a school founded by Saint Kozma, and from my conjecture I believe my family in Berat had studied in one also, for he is a Great Saint who defended the faith and its teachings greatly!

I`m from Turkey and i know that ottoman empire had executed saint Kosmos, it was an criminal act what they did. also converting Ayasofia church to mosque is an another evil thing that they committed, i know it won't change anything but I`m sorry about what have done to you guys. i have so much respect to Orthodox christians. I`m muslim but i went to your churches a few times. orthodox people have great scholars and monks and Allah talks about orthodox monks in the Quran with great respect and love. because no mater what is the name of the creator that he is the only one. and i have great respect to Jesus Christ pbuh.

How are your studies going so far? I'm making a similar shift.
Almost done with the catechism should finish by end of Lent. It's been a gratifying journey. For most things it makes perfect sense to me and I appreciate actual debate and refernces. I can't stand the Baptist (or dang near all Protestant) system of "feel him" and "pray harder". I like there there's a clearly defined map and measurable steps as well as emotions.

Hello im greek orthodox living in albania from epirus, there is a story how Saint Cosmas met the pasha of south Ali pasha tepelena and gave him a prophecy that if he didn't stop persecution of christians he would end up with a red beard. Ali pasha tepelena was killed from sultanate getting his head chopped his body burried in Greece Ioannina and his head in Constantinople

7:53, the Muslim's arrest St.Cosmas.
St.Cosmas made the statement that “if you do not have these two loves you cannot be saved” (5:39). That’s true if he was referring to sanctification; but if meant justification then he was grossly in error, because justification is not depended on any human merit, but only Christ’s!
No he was not "grossly in error " - it's who is misunderstanding his words in Protestant terms which are themselves erroneous. Feel free to educate yourself more on proper Church history, the Patristic theology, proper Christology, Ecclesiology and Sacramentology, before blaspheming the Lord's saints. Jay Dyer would be a great start especially in helping to clarify how the Western schisms fell away from the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, which is the Eastern Orthodox Church, and how their erroneous "theologies" developed. Then you can also check out Patristic Nectar, The Orthodox Ethos Podcast, Orthodox Teaching of the Elders (all on youtube) - and of course more videos by this same channel, Trisagion Films.
