The house should be clean at all times not only when visitors are coming. I for one hate seeing dirty dishes. I even get mad whenever I go to my friend’s place and see them. I just start cleaning. My OCD is triggered by things being out of place
@Tinker Skyla what kind of backhanded sarcasm was that? Don’t try to ridicule me then try to act as if it was tongue in cheek. Call a spade a spade. It take less than 10 seconds to wash a dish. Why have it sitting in the sink? It is just plain nasty and if it works for you good. Complacency should not trump simple things like keeping a tidy and clean house and/or place. The word is nasty and if you’re using the deflective tactic and coping mechanism of being “busy” or “not having enough time” to cover for your nastiness. That in itself says a lot.
@Tinker Skyla how you socialize your kids is a good indicator how they will turn out as adults. In essence, if you teach your kids how to do chores and be helpful around the house that could help in lessen the burden. Rather than rationalize and justify the actions of the parent. Why incorporate a corrective approach? FYI I am a social worker and I have seen cases where children have been placed in the State’s care because of a messy (inhabitable) household (not saying that her household is at that point but it could get there). We understand that life can be complicated and messy but one has to have things in place to help them navigate such issues. She has a husband and kids that can help so... Excuses only gets you so far. How about making some adjustments to facilitate change than make excuses? Before I became a Social worker. I was a teacher so all this semantics, baseless postulations and assertions achieve what ends? Probably in your school you were not taught how to keep your space tidy. In essence, the school system, their parents and society has done these folks an injustice. And you summed it up to privilege. Being cleanly is a privilege? I have seen individuals who were precariously housed space more tidy than what I have seen in this episode. There shouldn’t be any excuse.

I grew in an extended family where I was raised by my grandparents. I didn’t have indoor plumbing until I was 16. I did not have my own bed and room until I migrated to Canada. My mother and grandmother taught us how to be independent and cleanly as such I started hand washing my underwear and socks at 4 and as I got older so did my task of taking responsibility with house chores. Cutting the yard, raking it, cleaning the house, polishing the floors and the list goes on. As such your preconceived notions and assertions are highly skewed and fallacious.
She is a lawyer and while her profession might be demanding that does not excuse her from taking responsibility if that’s the case. Hire someone to assist. I understand that deflection is a coping mechanism from not taking onus. It is easier to blame someone else and wish it away. It’s the easy way out.

Watching how the 2 sisters in the last part reacted to their father made my stomach drop to my feet.
I managed to leave my husband shortly after I noticed our 19 month old daughter would yell and try to get our attention to distract us any time we interacted in front of her. When I pointed it out to him (always later, when she was asleep as to not escalate things further in front of her) he would, of course, deny it was happening and call me crazy etc. I was only able to leave due to pretty miraculous circumstances otherwise I don’t know where we would be right now. I hope and pray this woman finds a way to leave as well

The guy at #1 irritates me. You can totally tell that he grew up in an environment where men don't do anything at home and "women are caretakers". Cooking f****** food doesn't make you a wuss; it adds to your list of skills that ACTUALLY matter in family life.
I agree somewhat as in sure he could help out every now and then but if he works all day isn't he doing his part? If you get to be home all day and not exert yourself much as kids go to school maybe and this may sound crazy but then wouldn't her part be doing the non working things. Should he now and then help her out with certain things sure absolutely but if you work hard all day and have in the back of your mind that your the financial backbone of your family that pressure is not something you can dismiss. So you want wether it's the man or woman (usually it's the man let's be real) to work there ass off and do there part and on top of making sure everything gets taken care of outside of the home add more things to do when maybe he or she can relax and unload when they get home. You have to realize not every home is as progressive as you would like and sometimes each partner fills a role. I once had to work a 3 to 12 shift which meant I would leave by 1 and not get home till almost 2am so you expect me to also do household things as well? And if I don't then what I would be considered a jerk or something.

I agree 100% when you research the effects of these foods on the body over time, and you switch to unprocessed organic foods it's a big difference. However, there's a right and wrong way going about it, you can encourage it nicely without degrading someone's(ESPECIALLY a mom or a dad) choices. When I was a child my dad was sexist and abusive I can see the signs in those poor girls. the slight movements being hyper aware of their surroundings, the elder sister watching the little one to monitor her reaction and reassure her that she's ok and to be ready to protect or guide, the little one holding her bear for security/comfort and covering the bears eyes. The mom needs to run if she hasn't already! This relationship has already damaged those kids but she can show them the way out, just leave, even if the kids are grown now it will make an impact on them . My mom was to late and died because of it, she was only 32!
