I was not expecting to find a musician that I actually think is cool. Nice work. I recently got into Dimarzio pickups. I've got 36th anniversary set but the bridge leaves me wanting just the tiniest little bit more so the 59 bridge is in the mail. Though the 36th set is the best feeling and sounding I've ever had. Anyways you had me at " shit ton of distortion " lol!
Came here for a pickup review and left with a new artist to buy the music of. Checked her site and links to lessons she has done for magazines. Thank DiMarzio for turning me onto a guitarist that I can learn a great amount of guitar playing tips and techniques from.
I can relate because it happened to me at about the same time. (We're dating ourselves) I think I saw them first on an Al Di Meola album cover and I can still remember the feeling to this day, I thought they were the coolest things I ever saw.
I was fortunate enough to get my first 'real' guitar back in 82 that had a zebra Super Distortion in the bridge and a cream PAF in the neck. That's been my favorite combo ever since for most things. Clean up nice, and gets as dirty as you need.
@@gfgranja Hi Gabriel, I was making Super Distortions before Ace started using them but having Ace use them took it to a new level. Hope that helps, Larry DiMarzio
Gretchen is amazing as a player and a person love her work with zepparella and her solo stuff as well and man if ya never heard it check out her acoustic stuff on Lapdance Armegeddon
Gretchen has a very cool 2004 Gibson Les Paul Limited Edition in Manhattan Midnight fade w/ Ebony fretboard - only 275 units produced... Dig the Dimarzio tone..
I’ve played for 49 years and have owned violins but never dared us a bow with my L's because as you said, I’d feel like a nut, but so what! If I ever get one again I’ll have to piddle around with it just to see what I can do with it. That was fun. Thank ya, dear;)
she is amazing! still waiting for her 3rd solo album! oh and since this is the official Dimarzio channel i will say your Steve Morse signature pups exceeded all of my expectations!
Cool video, have been wanting to try out these PAF 59's since release, and you don't see many demos online of them which sucks. Really really dig the rose-gold!!!!
very impressive pickups, as always. but, many people don't know DiMarzio PAF power. i'm using PAF 36th Anniversary pickup set on '59 Les Paul. i want use too this. but, south korea sales too late, almost years... larry, are you watching this? P.S. Gretchen Menn always beauty.
Gretchen, your playing and sense of humor might just make this the best pickup promo vid in all of existence. Oh, and Larry's pickups sound great, too! (Say the gal with an '81 Hamer Special)
I have 3 sets of Twang Kings and they are the best Tele Pups IMHO. I purchased a set of these Rose Gold PUPS after all. They are going into my Spalted Agile LP copy which I got at a pawn shop across from where The Spanish Castle used to be on Highway 99 between Seattle and Tacoma.
Has anyone had a chance to compare these Dimarzio '59 PAF's to Gibson T-Top pickups....? I was set on getting a set of these in my LP, but just discovered the T-Tops a couple of days ago, and now I'm torn. If anyone's had a chance to play and compare both, I'd really love to hear your thoughts. Not that one might be a bad choice (no such thing here), but perhaps soundwise one might be better, though I understand the T-Tops would be more fragile due to their age and the type of wire used in their windings. Just interested in impressions of the comparison between their sound.
Wow that jarred my memory - the fan definitely reminded me of the movie and the eeriness it evoked - made me think of the ancient Nordics or Vikings exploring the vast cold ice worlds of the north.
You are the real deal Gretch. Your tone is impeccable. When you did the Immigrant Song, I was blown away. Very impressive. Looking forward to a solo album at some point?
@@LarryDiMarzio Awesome. I was looking at that one , as it had similar numbers. But you never really know the character of the pup for sure. Figured I'd ask the man. You rock! I'll get a Imperium for my Ibanez. I have the Dark Matter covered Gravity Storm in my 6 string Ibanez and really dig it. Wanted to match my 7 string with similar tone and output. Thx alot. 👍🤘😁
really like the 36th PAF neck. disappointed with the PAF Masters, so bit hesitant to try those 59 PAF. some people also said it just an "okay" PAF style pickups. but it sounds quite good on this demo. the middle position nailed those page's sounds, and it make me want to try it. I'll keep my eyes on 2nd hand market
I got this 59 set (neck and bridge). Sounds perfect to me. Worse every $. U really can adjust any tone u wish if u have Les Paul. Great clean, perfect crunch and readable distortions.
I've tried paf pro long before I got the 36th. tried it on both neck & bridge post. it just didn't fit with me. but I somehow I like rick derringer models, the neck one suppose to be similar to paf pro. steve blucher described it as "paf pro with more juice" when I asked some info about those old rick derringer models.
A d-activator in the bridge is fine, keep in mind the music you play. IE metal with a d-activator is a good pairing, youth gospel reggae jazz fusion maybe not so much. And yes liquifire and super D is a good combo overall
it's an original piece called "venice" 3:01 she wrote for her next (her 3rd) solo album release 3:45. If you're interested in learning more about her playing perspective, techniques, and style, she has a 30-lesson course available at jamplay dot com, "Electric Techniques In Service of Creativity". Check out her video "Gretchen Menn: Techniques For Creative Playing" where she speaks a little about what the course contains.
why did'nt you ask to move the toggle switch I hate that when I tap I always hit it , it could be your signature guitar add your pickups and move the toggle and make neck straighter ,wider and flatter to also tap on it
Beautiful opening piece , that , your LP and the pickups, holding three candles to your own high level of beauty. I appreciate the Morse influence with the harmonics with modulation delay ..I share the same influence, and appreciate your intelligence and class as well.. Just saying ;-) I think you just sold me on those pickups hehe. Also it was nice meeting you at The Dixie Dregs show in Santa Cruz at the Rio. Peace of music to you ~
That gal is ridiculously beautiful. Eyes to die for. Dangerous curves. The supermodel of the electric guitar world, and beyond. Super talent and brains. ♥♥♥
Gretchen Menn is a skilled musician and a very nice lady. She is also capable of playing a heavy (physically) Less Paul for two hours straight without bitching once about her shoulders or back.
Truly an honor to get to work with the wonderful DiMarzio team! Thank you for the kindness, creativity, and spectrum of tones. ✨
The honor was ours. You are a joy to work with, and we feel blessed to have you on the team.

I love the finish on the Les Paul! And it sounds incredible as well!
I was the original owner of her blue Les Paul and sold it to her in 2007ish - So happy to see she is still making music on it
Did you sell her the guitar at 4 minutes 0 seconds?
Sure you were 😂😂😂😂😂💩🧻🤡

YES!!!
Oh Yes! Thats Sounds Amazing Gretchen !
And The Hair, WoW !
My first guitar mod was in 1981: Dimarzio super distortion, all cream. Been hooked ever since.
Ace Frehley inspired this mod right?

LarryDiMarzio Hi Larry! My answer was to Phillip Van Doren’s coment. Your pickups rocks! Cheers
Looking forward to the next album. The bow looks like fun. I need to figure out how to play with my fingers first.
That might be the most beautiful Les Paul I’ve ever seen.
Great demo. Thank you Gretchen and Larry.
Not much of a LP guy, but that is one of the nicest ones I've seen.
Looking forward to some new stuff! thanks for the demo.
Recently got a guitar with what is my first set of Dimarzio's. Rich and dynamic and I love them.

Love DiMarzios..been using them since 1976 I use super distortion s and on my Les Paul pro DELUXES 1977-78-79s..P-90 VERSIONS THEY SCREAM!!
Love the demo! Been using Dimarzios since the 70s. Love every one of Larry's pickups. And Gretchen Menn! :-)

Gibson 490r with short A5 magnet is really close to t-top if not dead on. Iv owned both.
I bought these pickups. Should I do 50's or Modern wiring?
50's
Wow that jarred my memory - the fan definitely reminded me of the movie and the eeriness it evoked - made me think of the ancient Nordics or Vikings exploring the vast cold ice worlds of the north.
Recently upgraded my neck pickup to the 35th anniversary PAF in my Les Paul
Her solo album "Abandon All Hope" is excellent. It's not some mindless shred fest but has real musical compositions.
3:48
she holds a musicman momentarily? perhaps Silhouette?
Totally one of those mandella effects :o!
Holy crap. I seen it too!!!!
Yes
Fan of Led Zeppelin and Dimarzio paf, gonna install 36th in my charvel. It's refreshing hearing somebody that's not shredding at full speed
Sounds great..!
You are the real deal Gretch. Your tone is impeccable. When you did the Immigrant Song, I was blown away. Very impressive. Looking forward to a solo album at some point?
Dammit! Now I need to buy more pickups.
That fan in the Dazed & Confused section completely took that tone to 11.
Goddess of the guitar
Awesome. Hey Larry. What would be the best 7 string equivalent of the Gravity Storm humbucker? Thx alot. You rock! Best PAF around.
The closest would be an Imperium 7 (DP716)

Smiles all the way around!!
Help please
Bad Idea to put D activator X neck model in the bridge position?
Liquidfire work together with Super D?

Been obsessed with LPs lately, so I *had* to click this vid.
Love this!
Great tones.
Her tone is incredibly balanced and refined. I gotta try these pickups!
Surely you jest.
What a couple Gretchen and Jimmy...?😀
What is the Zeppelin riff she plays at 3:21?
That's the beginning of 'The Lemon Song' from Led Zeppelin II.
So amazingly talented and so beautiful x💝
Checked out your music on Spotify... can’t believe you don’t have more followers. +1 from me, love it.
Thumb’s up bc: Gretchen Menn!
beautifull....Greetings from Romania Europe
All I hear is a shit ton of delay and chorus.....
Yes, here’s what they sound like with less hair, no bow, and fewer than 20 effects:

hey larry, the new pick ups gonna have built in blu tooth?
Awesome girl, love the bow too, and I agree, it could be cheesy if I played with it, but you sound fantastic, so there's that.
As soon as the fan started blowing your hair, I couldn't hit the like button fast enough, awesome playing btw.
Nevan from DMC 3
Oh my......@ 5:02 I know you think it's cheezy but (inhales deeply) more please!!! LOL
She's tapping and picking at the same time?
false harmonics?
why did'nt you ask to move the toggle switch I hate that when I tap I always hit it , it could be your signature guitar add your pickups and move the toggle and make neck straighter ,wider and flatter to also tap on it
That's how you do it folks, plays guitar for a zeppelin cover band and doesn't play stairway to heaven on a video, thank god.
The violin bow and the hair blowing alone was worth it

Good stuff. The jazz guitarist, Tal Farlow could do double, and triple artificial harmonics.
I believe you are thinking of Lenny Breau. I've never heard Tal do anything like that.
pretty lady good looking guitar
