      HI Nate, I am glad its working out. I know the parts needed are in a few part lots sadly. I have massive inventory but I try and keep it all within a manufacturer, like Tamiya needing Tamiya hardware in the event you have left overs from other kits. Happy you like it!

      Great to hear it. Please note that I am serious when I say those arms will not withstand abuse as I mentioned in the video as well as anything hotter than the silver can motor. The tires are just too big and add too much stress. With that said my midnight pumpkin is at the track all the time with the suspension

      It really helps the CW01 but the added mass of the truck and tires puts them under a lot of stress. They cannot take anything more than the stock motor.

    Hey Ampro, hey Lunchbox owners! While searching for Lunchbox upgrades I came across your video. As always I really enjoyed it! Nevertheless I think it's fair to mention that there are other ways to archieve the independend front suspension. First of all there is a free-to-download version on thingiverse (thing:2334911). This doesn't look as good as yours and has some design issues that have to be fixed before printing. I did this and printed it in PETG and I'm really happy with this solution. The PETG seems to be very rigid and the suspension upgrade is a huge benefit for the Lunchbox. Secondly one could buy the Futaba FX10 A-arms that also fit the Lunchbox Chassis. I hope this comment helps all the Lunchbox enthusiast searching for upgrades. And I apologize for beeing bad for the business, Ampro. ;) :) Best greetings, Robert

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  5 років тому

      Yeah sadly those are stolen versions of my designs. The FX10 upgrade is a good one too but I have not done it myself. I should look into it.

    • @edgarbaron2561
      @edgarbaron2561 4 роки тому +1

      the futaba fx 10 arms fit, but the installation requires much more modification and isnt as clean of a fit as the AMPRO design. It also places the shock at an akward angle that has caused some breakage in the lower mount if you dont build a custom mounting solution.

    I just installed these on my lunchbox and the handling difference is incredible!! Iv only had a quick run in the car park and jumping off a few kerbs but it handles like a miniature 8th scale now. I am running brushless so it’s good for 30 mph so I wouldn’t expect them to survive a high speed crash and if the jumps are under two feet high, should be fine. I think, brushed or brushless this is an absolute must for the lunchbox/pumpkin :)

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  6 років тому

      Wow! Well I am glad you like them. I am trying out a new material from hewlett packard and it is supposed to be the strongest 3D printed material on the market!

    • @Phantom-lb7mu
      @Phantom-lb7mu 6 років тому

      That sounds great, I’d probably get a pair of those too. Although I’d say these are plenty strong enough for tamiya rc’s. if someone’s going to attempt 8feet jumps with a lunchbox pretty sure something’s gonna break. Tamiya rc’s just aren’t about that. If I want to get massive air I take out the arrma kraton. But this upgrade on the lunchbox has made it much more fun. It can now do so much more. The wider stance although slight seems to make a big difference too, especially when going quick on lumpy ground. Seems to ride much flatter:)

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  6 років тому

      Yeah I totally agree but people get angry when they ignore me and explode their RC car, lol! I also found that the wider stance is not noticeable but makes the MP look better.

    • @Phantom-lb7mu
      @Phantom-lb7mu 6 років тому

      Indeed, I think because the lunchbox & pumpkin are quite top heavy rc’s any increase in width helps a lot. Well iv found it certainly does with your 8mm offset arms. And yes it does look better too. I had the Blackfoot in the eighties and my friends had other tamiya’s and They were great back then but your upgrades have brought them further up to date so they can run on brushless systems. I’m tempted to get the grasshopper or hornet now. They’re proper nostalgic for blokes my age :)

    My dear old dad tried a few things back in the day to stop these things flipping over so easy. Everything from changing the camber by modding the steering hub to making a top link from a old school turn buckle but the most successful thing we ever found was using the balancig beeds from a comercial tyre.

Didn't finish until night time, so only got in a short test run, but it was AWESOME. The Lunchbox handles incredibly well - can hardly believe it.

      @AMPROEngineering  7 років тому

      I am happy you like it. I think it was a big improvement. Did you get the stock offset or 8mm? Just remember that they are not as strong as the originals.

    • @smirkracing2068
      @smirkracing2068 7 років тому +2

      I got the 8mm offset per your recommendation (for high-speed bashers). So far, still delighted after a month of use. Last weekend, I was driving on wet pavement in a parking lot, I slid too far off course (couldn't turn enough) and went full speed directly into a decorative boulder by the side of the lot. There was an audible boom. Body is completely cracked/broken. I saw plastic flying in the air. But only one small section of your suspension mount broke (the part holding the pin that holds the caster block). I was expecting much more carnage. So - I am happy to report that your parts are not the weakest links, even if they are not as strong as the originals.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  7 років тому

      Ouch! Yeah it sounds like it could have been worse! You ever think of running the lexan shell? It is a great option for a high speed runner. I have a lexan MP lid for mine when I take it out to the track. Are you able ti find the replacement upright on shapeways? I sell everything individually so that replacement parts are cheaper. Hear that Tamiya????

    • @smirkracing2068
      @smirkracing2068 7 років тому

      Wanted to report in that I run full brushless (VXL 540) above 40mph on asphalt and off-road with absolutely no restraint. Check out this pic: goo.gl/photos/Y3Pu1GAj6L46LSqJ7 - the aluminum 4-link bracket I run has bent, but there is no damage to your parts (you'll have to trust me, since they are not visible ;).
      Now, maybe your parts simply didn't suffer any impacts or stresses (hard for me to know) but statistically speaking, given the sheer number of tumbles I took at high speed and the number of curbs I nicked, there was likely some stress on those parts. Your stuff is holding up beautifully! I have at least a dozen packs through with the current printed parts with no issues. Nothing lasts forever, and I am sure those parts will break one of these days, but they are "above the minimum bar" in terms of durability in my book even if they are less strong than nylon or other materials right now.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  7 років тому

      Wow. The fact that you were able to bend that bracket is quite impressive I must say. I mean I know that my cars have been in some crashes but not at that kind of speed. I mast say that what you are showing is very impressive! Thank you for the images and keep me posted on the parts.

    I would like to say how beautifully simple your suspension design is! (simple is best) I would however like to point out that a little bit of camber change is desirable when compressed.. this is to counter radial tyre forces when cornering.. usually this is achieved by having a shorter top arm or lowering the chassis end of the top link...
    (I suspect you may already know this) your system seems to illuminated bump steer

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  6 років тому

      Correct but the spacing on the zero offset version is so tight that it would hit the shock! I tried but could not get it all to work easily. Thank you for your kind words.

      It is a good one but the nylon plastics used are rigid and therefore not good for bashing as the factory ABS can bend like crazy. Still, i have run my for years with no issue but a lot of people make theirs way too fast and crash once...and nylon sprinkles the yard.

      Just curious, what's the distance (ball center to ball center) for the wider offset arms since its about 60mm for the 0-offset arms. I'm definitely getting this upgrade for my Black Edition Lunchbox. I'm using stiffer springs and 1spacer in each shock in the front just so the front end doesn't dive so bad in reverse. I just have to find where to get the ball ends and threaded rod since my local hobby shop doesn't carry that and he's not going to be around much longer since he's selling the building and leaving the business-like all the other hobby shops I've known.

    Hello.. I bought your kit for my punkin and it drove great. It took a easy rollover and the lower control arm broke in 3. I emailed shapway thinking it was you and asked if there is any kind of warranty since it broke in a few minutes of use. I even sent them photos showing the truck was not even scratched when it rolled. I no u said they are not as strong as the o/e ones.Just seems like it broke to easy. but they told me they are sepatate from you. Thanks. Joe K

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  Рік тому

      They there Joe, so all the arms offered now are the much more robust MJF (multijet fusion) material that is much stronger than the arms I have tested and that are on the pumpkin shown running at the track. As noted in all of the item description, these are not as strong as the insanely mushy ABS that Tamiya initially used. Can you tell me if you got the standard width or the wide? Given the nature of the hobby, there is no warranty on these parts but they are all offered as individual replacement parts so you wont need to buy the whole front end again. I don't know what to say about they arm breaking during a light roll over as I do beat on mine quite a lot and what I have are still the original nylon prints. I have seen a bad sinter layer before from shapeways where one part snapped in my hand. This is easy to spot as the break will be a perfectly flat layer. Very rare but still possible. you are welcome to shoot me some images. amproengineering@gmail.com

      Here there is almost no bump steer now. The knuckles are the same for each side so Im thinking the ball stud moving from top to bottom make the length of the tie rod closer to the length of the arm so that the change is reduced.

    Alberto, I've nearly got my Piecemeal CW-01 finished! I'm down to just needing an ESC, body and reciever.
    I temporarily swapped the ESC and reciever from my Landfreeder into it - because I just HAD to try it! 😲
    OMFG!! It can do something that no other CW-01 can.... TURN - and stay on its wheels!!! 👍👍😎🍺🍺🍺 No more irritating toe-in and bow when run in reverse, in fact, NO measurable toe or camber change at ALL!
    I am just so excited and grateful to you for these. Now, I'm going to piecemeal myself a Hornet - just so I can try your front - and rear independent suspension on it!!
    Thank you my friend - from all of us - for improving our favorite Tamiya vehicles!

      We're approaching the time when 3D printing will finally be going mainstream, and production costs are going down. That will attribute a wider market, and increased success for you!

    Hello! Love the cantilever setup for the Hornet chassis! Have you made a setup for the Mad Bull Chassis? Very similar in design, just wider. I'd be very interested in acquiring one from you. Also, the rear suspension for the hornet....I've seen people create a multi link trailing arm setup...modification of the rear axle housing is required....anything? Thanks! Ken G

      You mean that little aluminum u-plate? So They are used on a lot of Tamiya cars like on the front lower suspension mount on the hornet or on the stock CW01. You can get them in some Tamiya parts bags but sadly you are going to have to look and see what bags they are in. My suggestion is to get a plate of aluminum and make your own. That is what I have done for a lot of other project. WAYYYYYY easier and cheaper than sourcing them. You would think Tamiya would make something so useful actually available to the public EASILY.

      Hello Joe, both versions are in here:

      Please remember, and I cannot stress this enough, that this is not intended for hard bashers nor is it for novice drivers. They Nylon has served me well with no problems but I run a stock silver can motor and I am experienced. I have had all to many installed on 50 mph brushless CW01's and they will in no way survive any impact at that speed. Just a heads up that these are perfect for a light runner and not much more.

I describe what you need in the video but you are right, I do need a parts list. Let me see if I can put one together in the next couple days and add it to the description.

    • @gaskelldave

      Thank you that would be great. Don't worry I'll be sticking with the std 540 motor, might even go for 35t or weaker as I intend to use the truck as a light crawler or trail driver and as such may also order the diff locker you make.
      Having just taken the truck on its maiden run and noticed the knocking sound as the transmission twists with power on and off I think the rear transmission case mod could be a good idea too.
      Are there any mods you sell for the CW-01 besides the three I mention above and is there an option to buy all three at a discount?
      Many thanks.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  7 років тому +2

      The trans case mod is seriously the best thing you can do for it. I also make a rear shock mount but am planning rear IRS as well as a bed for the Unimog but those are a long ways away. I wish I could do discounts but shapeways isn't set up like that. I can see what I can do though, i have some prototypes laying about that work fine but are in different materials.

    • @gaskelldave
      @gaskelldave 7 років тому +1

      Thanks Ampro but what's an IRS, independent rear suspension? Also, I have another one for your list, would it be possible to increase the wheelbase of the CW-01 by extending the rear transmission mounts? The reason I ask is because the rear tyres don't line up with the rear wheel arches of the body and instead sit noticeably in front of them. For scale realism and handling a slightly longer wheelbase would be better. I'm imagining replacing the two existing mounts with a single piece that spans the width of the chassis and is screwed in at the same points either side. It could also incorporate the transmission brace too.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  7 років тому +2

      Oh sorry! Independent Rear Suspension. I just did that for my Hornet (same trans, see episode 68). I have had that idea also. I may need to do that as it is not a major pain.

      No, there is a hole through where the arm pivots on the chassis. You will see when you get it. You need to drill it out with a 2mm bit to clear the hole and then glue in the rod. You cannot run anything more than a stock silver can with these arms either. The mass of the front tires plus a crash will not end well.

    Hello and probably you will not remember our short conversation in the comment section of your other Midnight Pumpkin 🎃 - Video?!
    My English was not good enough to call the piece by it's name you asked me after I told you which was responsible to ruin over & over the fun with this cool R/C Monster Truck because it broke over and over again & ordered new ones with a delayed of delivery (import to west Germany/Bavaria) from 5 to 8 weeks. I was so upset as a kid, maybe you can imagine what it means to see my brother driving and jumping around with his "pretty normal looking, standard R/C Truck.
    About our driving style: Not bashing btw. I would say jumping on little ramps out of carton-boxes or a little race-tracks we build with dirt in a little field in front of our house ... let’s say between 7 to 25 cm with soft landings in the grass and mine broke sometimes after 2 or 5 minutes of driving.
    My Pumpkin was painted in silver with blue flames on it & took around one year to have the money to buy it. (Pocket Money & money of B-Day, X-Mas and Easter 🐣 etc.)
    It was my first self-built R/C car around middle - late 80's and I was so proud because it looked way much cooler, for example than my 2 years older brothers Truck (I think he had a KYOSHO Monster Truck around the same price class?!).
    So, sorry fo the long text but now I can finally answer your question because of this nice video here:
    Exactly this little white piece in your hands @ 18:11 / or @25:33 the only white plastic part.
    (I wonder why you had no problems with it?! Mmh, maybe because I hat the first serial main production of the 🎃 and later it was a better material?!)
    Now I hate myself that I sold it to another kid after 2 years or so because I couldn’t afford the money for this "little demon of a crappy but important piece/part" ;]
    With kindest regards and a compliment to your nice videos who reminding me of my childhood as a young beginner of such a wonderful hobby! 👍🏼🙏

      Oh that spindle? Hmmm...i guess with the silver can motor it never seemed to be over stressed? I can imagine that with a hot motor it could easily break off in an impact. As you say, my driving style is light to say the least so this is a contributing factor for sure!

    Can you make the entire kit with ball cups and threaded rods so I can buy it from you for my 7 yr old son. We just bought the Metalic midnight Pump and have a second one we will not open and throw in the attic. I need it in a kit form so he can just build it on his own (his first solo build) and I need to add this into the kit for him. Please can you help a dad out?
    P.S. you fixed my 5 yr old daughter's Vintage Blackfoot(I gave her my Blackfoot I owned from 88) she did not like the top but appreciated it and loved it. The parts were bought in purple her favorite color and she points those out to everyone that asks. Yes, she installed them with help from her brother. They watched your video.
    The Blackfoot is now a Black edition monster beetle. completely converted with the black parts.
    Ok, so can you make a kit for them to install on a Midnight. The front-end parts I see online, but buying the cups and balls and rod is posing a problem. I can; not source the stuff from one local. I think the whole kit with hardware would sell. I know I would push them at the club we crawl with. THere are 5 boxes and 4 pumpkins oh and hornets and grasshoppers as well.

      I sadly dont have the time to do that. I wish I dud but for a 7 year old, you should keep the stock front end. The factory ABS is really soft and can take a beating. this front end is nylon and really cant be bashed. Glad your daughter is running that blackfoot!

      Ah ha texts have a way of coming through just at the wrong time, they do with me anyway. Love the channel. I'm building a LB at the minute. Started with a neo scorcher and decided to go retro.

      AMPRO Engineering myself too on the old car. Until recently my full size hack was a 1992 BMW 325i in a deep charcoal black. I had it 10 years. 90s epitomised. It finally went and my misses who moaned about its age most the time I had it said the other day she missed it now it was gone as it stood out and looked and sounded "cool". Women!

      Ok sorry..i like your designs/work etc. Have you any mods for the monster beetle?

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  7 років тому +1

      Hi Eddie, don't worry about it man. I hate when people don't reply to me. Yes, I do. I have a rear swing arm brace which solves the warped and broken rear shock mounts as well as allows you to install a larger array of shocks. I have an antenna mount but I don't think that will work for the MB. I will be making new front upper and lower arms in a more flexible plastic vs the stock stuff. More stuff down the line!

    these work great but they are SUPER weak.. Two of them broke from tiny crashes.. Do not buy these if you plan to drive more than 1/3 throttle.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  3 роки тому

      I have run these at the race track a lot but I run a stock motor. I have pulled the nylon versions and now have only offer the HP plastic with metal reinforced rods. Its likely I will pull these forever as soon as the rear IRS rear end is complete.

    Absolute rip off prices. Although it's pretty damn cool. I wouldn't pay that much I am afraid. Plus I will have to pay a customs charge for the uk.

    • @AMPROEngineering

      These are 3D printing prices. I do not set them. This is what shapeways charges, not me. Shapeways is based out of the Netherlands so maybe there are no import duties there. I also sell the STL on my mini factory.

Just thought I'd stop and give you the feedback
