Ed, thanks for this bit about the paint job on your Tesla, very realistic stories that could happen to any car actually. I know that there’re many stories out there about how bad and thin the paints used by Tesla. So yesterday I took one Model 3 out of the Tesla showroom for a test drive. I spent a good 20 minutes looking at it, underneath the car , wheel housing , front, rear, and into the gabs in the bonnet where you could see the paint finish where the engines would be housed in a gas car. Comparing that with new Toyota and Mitsubishi, I’ll say that Tesla is far better than a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid or Toyota Yaris Cross or Toyota CH-R Hybrid for sure, at least no worst to a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV in coverage of body parts where most people won’t even look at ( engine compartments, welding spots etc ) Honestly, I have noticed that Toyota is skimping on paints I.e. not even finishing the job and thereby left exposing the undercoat layer, disappointing. So I have no trouble believing your opinion here. Keep up the good work, tell it as it is. Oh, I have a wood burner too and have chain sawn from large logs in the forest. I was a bit taken aback with your experience using a Tesla to salvage logs. I think I’m a little less ambitious than you. I usually use a heavy duty trailer n a 4WD. I need space for my chain saws n gas.
Ed, those pesky tree stumps! LOL. Great video. A very interesting technique for dent removal and especially the durability of the Tesla. Your car still looks beautiful. I am going with mud flaps on my "Y", hopefully, to minimize the road rash on the rear quarter panels that you experienced. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Cool video but you really should buy a tub of wax or NuFinish and give the car a polish and wax once a year or whatever. Takes you a couple of hours, the colour will look deeper and glossy, it will stay cleaner and the paint will be protected from the elements.
6.15.23 Ed, the tesla is not a woods vehicle. Does sit low, not much ground clearance. Is the Stark still coming, on schedule? You racing anywhere this weekend June 17-18 2023? No throwing the Stark down the hill just to scratch it up. Good dent repair explanation. That glue had to have been real good in sticking onto the car. Is the body steel or aluminum? Are thinking about becoming a standup comedian?
Hi Chuck, Low ground clearance, but it is all wheel drive, which is a big plus! Yes, the Stark is still scheduled for the end of October for me. I am racing this weekend, so I should have a new race video sometime next week. It should be great weather for the race. I promise not to throw the Stark down the hill. At least not intentionally. LOL Some body parts of the Model 3 are steel and some are aluminum. The part that I dented was a steel part. I was thinking of becoming a standup comedian, but I really prefer to sit. 😀🤣
Used to be pathetic but my new Mod Y from Shanghai has really excellent paint. So I do believe all those Tesla paint jokes are now a thing of the past.

As for the road rash? do you think you have kept a good eye on it over the miles or you didn't pay enough attention until more recently? I ask this because it also show durability of the paint over longer periods of exposure with road rash.
I generally do not pay attention to it, so I just noticed it recently. Plus that area of the car is not an area that is right in front of you so it is not easily noticed. I did notice there are a couple spots on it that I had already hit with touchup paint. Those must have happened a long time ago since I do not really remember them.

I have a full PPF wrap on my 2018 lrm3 so I am not sure about paint wear. ….since I have no real wear due to the PPF.
