    8.21.24 Ed, did you fill up on pancakes at the Waffle house? Great introduction and background information and old pictures. 2 Stark Varg’s great. Another fantastic start, leave the gas bikes in the dust. NO mudder race today, some dust, some rocks. What’s the longer course blue or red? You did not stop to help your fellow Varg rider Ryan? Don’t the Varg’s have reverse now? Ran out of time watching. Will watch the rest later. Those 2 guys lhat lapped you twice were sure going fast.

    • @edfessler
      @edfessler 6 днів тому

      Chuck, no I did not fill up on pancakes. Waffle House only has waffles! LOL The longer course was the blue one, which is the one we were on. The red arrows was a shorter course for the youth race. Yeah, Ryan told me to go on. He was worn out after he got his bike out of that mud hole, so he did not finish his 3rd lap. There is a software update that gives the Varg reverse. I have it installed on my motorcycle, but Ryan does not have it installed on his. I think it would have helped him a lot in the situation he was in, so I’m sure he will get the update installed before the next race. Thanks for the nice comments!

    Best thing that Tesla did for me, there is a 50 mile drive where there is heavy traffic for 25 miles. I just let the auto pilot control it and sit back and relax and listen to my Chill music, looking at the frustrated drivers. changing lanes to get ahead by 3 cars. When I want to drive, I just hit the gas (electric padel) and off I go leaving everyone behind. Then engage the auto pilot and let the car do the driving. I am enjoying my Tesla a lot. I have BMW 330i and Merc E350, but I don't even want to touch them any more. At first it was very frustrating when I did not know how to change something, however you can just talk to your car, Turn on the Wipers, Turn on the lights, Lets go home, radio station setting, call someone etc. It is like having a gas station at home, plug in forget it. When I come to sit in the car my mirrors, my radio, my seat, my AC setting are all adjusted just with my phone. When my wife is going, all her adjustments are done with her preferences. Just imagine, if you don't want to drive your BMW and Merc and go back to Tesla every time, it is telling you something.

    7.18.24 Ed, to bad you banged the thumb and tweaked the back. Are you a part time lumber jack? Did you use the Tesla this time? Good narration during the race. No suckin dust at this event. Great start, I like when you beat all the gas bikes to the first turn. Hold them off the best that you can. Great videos, 3 windows and the track map with the positions. Did you hear about the Varg software upgrade? Crawl forward and backward and more efficient use of the battery. The conditions and track layout was more to your liken.

    • @edfessler
      @edfessler Місяць тому

      I AM part time lumber jack for sure! I heat my house with wood most of the time. I love a nice fire in the family room during the winter. You asked if I used my Tesla this time. Used it for what? If you are talking about using to haul the motorcycle to the race, I did not. I do not have a trailer hitch on the car. I do like getting the hole shot even though I am not quite as fast as most of the guys in my class. It allows me to hopefully get some good video of them when they come up behind me and then when they pass. I just installed the Crawl mode update yesterday. I tried it out just in the yard, it is pretty cool. I will take it for a spin and test the battery range again soon. I actually think I have a bit more battery range now than I had before even before this update. At my home it took 27% of the battery quite a while back. I tested again yesterday before the latest update and it used 22%, so I was a bit surprised at that. I really liked this track overall. The conditions were good and it had a nice variety of tight and open sections. It really had more open sections than what I usually care for, but it seemed to work pretty well for me.

    That's hilarious...kinda says it all about EVs, when hitting 100K and still being on the road is a proud moment. Never really see videos like this about ICE Hondas, or Toyotas. Or even Hybrids (may they be cursed to hell).

    • @edfessler
      @edfessler Місяць тому

      Just to be clear, I did not make the video because I was proud. I made the video to inform any perspective buyers of what may be expected from a Tesla Model 3 as it gets more miles on it. ICE cars have been around for a very long time, so everyone knows what to expect from them as they age. That is why you do not see those types of videos.

    • @BigBear--
      @BigBear-- Місяць тому

      @@edfessler Sure, ok, not proud. Anyway, EVs have been around long enough to also know what to expect. But your point is about a specific EV model, in which case, again, you don't really see comparable videos on "what to expect" from a specific model modern ICE vehicle, in the same sense, because it'd be silly. A video wouldn't really be needed if high mileage was the norm for EVs, it would be common knowledge. A video like this in that case would be just as silly. Your point is it's not...which makes the rest of my point.

    • @atrip3900
      @atrip3900 Місяць тому

      @@BigBear--the video was very informative especially to someone that knows nothing about Tesla. I personally was under the impression once they hit 100 k they’re basically worthless because of the battery. After researching it seems they go a long time. I just saw a couple with over 600k that required relatively little repairs during ownership.

    • @BigBear--
      @BigBear-- Місяць тому

      @@atrip3900You're not really getting part of the story. Unlike an ICE vehicle, the batteries peformance decreases over time. It often doesn't just die. But manufacturers got tricky with their software...so as the performance falls off the BMS (battery management system), will keep projecting full range estimates. Now that can happen two ways, either it doesn't account for the actual decrease in performance, and it keeps giving you full range estimates, and you don't notice and think you just used more power which is why your real world range ended up being less. Or it starts to cut power output to increase range over time, so you don't ever have full access to all the HP/TQ the car was originally capable of. There's no magic...it's physics and chemistry...You can try and stall the inevitable by living in ideal weather conditions, hyper focusing on your charge cycles, etc. But you can't stop them decreasing output. Usually the EVs with lots of miles tend to be either Ubers and the like that don't care about the overall range/ouput over time, and put on a ton of miles in a short amount of time, then dump the cars; Or people that get lucky and baby their cars, and only drive a simple short work/home cycle, never worrying about range or performance anxiety. It's generally not the norm...and again...do you want an EV with 150-250K miles, but close to half the original available power, if you're lucky? Personally I'd rather get a JDM or American gas/diesel car/truck, if I want that kind of guaranteed mileage. Don't forget the rest of the EV is still a car...so you'd still have all the regular wear and tear of interiors, suspension, chassis, lights, brakes, etc. Most people that get reliable ICE platforms and have problems, tend to forget or try and extend the maintenance cycles, because it's a reliable platform, and end up with early failures. Change your oil minimum every 5,000 miles (3,000 on performance cars or severe service cars), your coolant every 4-7 years, your trans fluid every 30-50K miles, your spark plugs every 60-100K miles, and your air filter minimum every 10K miles, and they'll run basically forever. Without the headaches or performance losses of the EVs. Up to you.

      I think thier guarantee states at least 70% before replacement under warranty, but are you saying that they say to replace it in general after it drops below 70%. If so, did they specify why exactly.

    Sucks about the rut. Next time once stuck you can try standing the bike up on the rear wheel with some throttle and pulling, usually you'll get better footpeg clearance in a wheelie, even if not moving! If nothing else, getting it standing vertical lets you wobble it side to side to grab the sides of the rut and launch out the top/side. Or when entering the rut, trying to loft the front end through the deep parts and stay light on the the bike, but above all keep the throttle on and a little more momentum than is comfortable, especially when you can see how the rut tapers off on top from everyone else's footpegs grinding! I like your approach the lap after though, staying out of them is easiest of all :D I'll see you out there with mine shortly!

      @@edfessler is that really? I've never driven it and I'm planning to buy it. You honestly really didn't find controlling things on a screen in a moving car distracting at all? When I look at my phone while driving I completely lose awareness of everything around me and I'm petrified of what's going to happen if I get that car. And solution in my mind is to set everything up before starting the trip.

    • @edfessler
      @edfessler 2 місяці тому

      @@raspas99 No, it does not bother me at all. Even in a regular car if you change the radio station or adjust a control you have to look over to operate the control. Also most all cars have some sort of screen now. The only thing I would change in the Tesla is to have a stalk on the steering column for windshield wiper control instead of on the screen. It does have a button for a single swipe, which is helpful. At that point it has a quick popup that allows to quickly change the setting, aside from the regular setting on the main screen. Aside from that, one very positive thing is that almost any function or control allows you to use voice commands, so in many cases you do not have to use the screen at all. And of course if you have it on Autopilot or full self driving then you are at much less risk to use the screen for things.

    6.5.24 Looks like another mudder, maybe should have passed on this one. Do you stay overnight at the track or do you make the drive in the morning? Do you have to get up early? How many miles are you willing to travel? Good start, like to see the Stark beat the gas bikes on the start. Great video recording. What power level were you using in the mud? Only 4 guys in the old guy class. Do you make back you entry fee? Do you prefer a tight or more of an open course riding the Varg? 3 tip overs before lap 2 completed, is the Varg getting heaver? Do you like not having to change batteries like in the KTM? Ed, you got yourself stuck really good again. Use some muscle and lift that Stark Varg out of the rut. Good placement of the camera to watch you get unstuck. You were sitting there for a long time. I see why this video is 2 hours plus. It was nice of those 2 guys to help you. In my opinion I think you have the best video. Front, back, track map and positions.

    • @edfessler
      @edfessler 2 місяці тому

      Yes, it was definitely a mudder. I had a technical issue the week before the race. My phone had a software update last week and it caused me to not be able to connect or upload data from my GPS watches. I think the new version of the Zepp app that is used to get the data has a bug in it. A friend of mine helped me and it took us 3 days to find a work-around. Customer support for the watches was zero help. After all that work to get them to function properly I was more motivated to actually go to the race and use the equipment. But I think I am going to make sure my next race is a dry one! I got up in the morning to go to the race. Usually I am leaving about 6 or 7 in the morning. But since we had all the rain they let us know they would delay the race for 2 hours, so I got to sleep in. I like races that are less than a 2 hour drive, but on a rare occasion I will drive about 3.5 hours. This race was particularly exhausting. I’ve recently been told I have exercise induced asthma (I think I have always had it). I kinda put some things together after I realized that when I sometimes get altitude sickness when I snow ski, the symptoms are the same as what I sometime experience when motorcycle racing. By the time I drove home I was really feeling terrible. I was using 35 and 40 hp for the race. For muddy races sometimes 35 hp is better for more control, but on this race I tried both and did not seem to have a big preference. Only the Expert racers sometimes race for money. I have never made back my entry fee. We do this for fun! :-) The Varg did get heavier in the race from all the mud accumulating on it. I could tell when riding it. Of course any motorcycle racing in these conditions including gas bikes have the same issue. It is nice not having to change batteries. At my previous race at Lee Farms I only beat the next racer by about 50 seconds, so if I had to swap a battery I would for sure have dropped 1 position. I think the Varg foot pegs were dug into the side of the rut when I got stuck. There was no way to lift it out for sure! Going backwards seemed to be the best way to get it out. Thank you for the compliment on the video. I usually try to think of something new to add to the video, but I think it is enough work now that I am at my limit. :-)
