    As a professional technician that has been doing this for over 20 years is that youngster did a pretty good job as he continues to do this profession he will learn to do it faster and less cutting and welding at his sectioning points he only needed to have 2 sectioning points not three and I highly recommend not to glue panels I know 3M backs it up but I usually you want to weld your vertical areas like at the b-pillar and around the quarter glass and back glass preferably with a pro-spot machine if the shop doesn't have one then yes a mig-welder will work that's just the way I would have done it but overall not bad for a youngster good job keep up the good work!!!👍

    Thanks for doing such a good job editing. I was going to buy a 2012 SS camaro with the exact same damage, thinking it be a couple of weekends and a couple of welds to cut and bolts on the rest. I was going to do it in my garage but clearly you need alot of equipment and tools. The car would sit for 10 years before I got it done.

    Just a couple critiques. A good spot weld cutter will work much better than grinding them. It will cut them out cleanly and uniformly, making it much easier to pull the panel. The less you have to yank and twist, the less you are deforming the structure underneath. And, at least in my opinion, a sawzall has little to no place in a body shop. Use an air saw. It has a MUCH faster and shorter stroke, and can be controlled with near surgical precision.

    Where did you get the replacement quarter panel? The only ones I can find are either the entire side of the car (from Classic Industries) or they are much shorter going up the pillars.

    Do the replacement panel have spot welds and channel that for a lack of better terminology panel lines up or has reference point to give idea on placement, also if I were to put the trunk lid back on wouldn’t that be a better way to get gaps/ alignment, I’ve changed front ends etc at 16yrs old so I’ve got 37yrs working experience I’ve just never replaced rear quarters.
    I appreciate your videos,Thank you

    Nice job bro! l've worked with my dad for about 3 decades. l don't know how old you are but you are doing very well. My best advice to fixing any wreck is pull and hammer and get the areas where fenders bolt on etc. as close as possible before moving on. lt's much easier to spend the day getting things right than pulling your hair out all day cheating to make up for a hack job and it will show in the end no doubt. There is so much more to all of this than people may think and it's not over until the paint comes out well.... idk that l'm going to miss the hustle. l like the work but not the money or deadlines. Good luck young man! Your patients and learning ability along with respect for your father have already gotten you further than most guys l have met who have been in the biz all their lives.

      Thanks bro means a lot ! ☺️ it can be tough at times working with your pops , things can get pretty heated . It’s been a good five years can’t complain he’s taught me a lot and like anything else I continue to learn . Thanks for the tip I’ll keep that in mind, i agree so much work and detail to get a final product but once you see it back to normal it’s almost unbelievable, especially the bigger the hit 👍 I understand, at times I wonder if the hustle is even worth it at times 🤔 got a bunch of older wiser techs that have been doing this since I was a baby telling me if I’m sure I want to do this and that there is still time to do something else

  • @dedricblowe5574

    When cutting off the quarter panel, how do you know where to cut? When you masked off the section of the panel 3:17

    • @AutoWizard94
      @AutoWizard94  6 років тому

      Dedric Blowe that’s the first initial cut , I’m basically removing as much of the old quarter panel off I look at my new part and cut way below then I overlap my new quarter with the roof rail then cut again to get a even section .

    • @dedricblowe5574

      I use a sawzall that I bought from Home Depot , an air hammer some grinders. You just need a garage with a capable compressor . There isn’t much to it , your cutting out an old or damaged part and putting a new one back on. I have another video on replacing or quarter panel where I do a voice over maybe that can help some too

    Is it just me or is a lot of undamaged panel being removed ? Couldn't just the damaged section be removed and then a patch panel be used ? I'm not a pro body man so maybe I'm wrong, but all the the way up that sail panel ? Seems excessive..

    • @mesiken487
      @mesiken487 5 років тому +1

      dennis jump no because that wouldn’t be a proper repair, it would take longer to do and also to get the patch covered with bondo/filler would be killer. Trust me its not as bad as it seems changing the whole panel would make the car look like nothing happened if done correctly

    • @marcoramos9489
      @marcoramos9489 5 років тому

      Just cutting out the area and patching it would take more welding and filler to smooth the warped metal from welding the patched area I would have only have section 2 areas not three that's less welding and filler

      Cutting out holes with air hammer is a waste of time. Put a 1/2in thick cutoff wheel on your cutoff wheel and grind the spot welds down then go around with your seam buster to pop it off. I heat up any glued areas with a propane torch to soften it. Weld thru primer already ground down spot weld areas, pull out the pro spot and spot weld away...silicone bronze section areas or mig whatever it calls for. Quarter pays what 16hrs why waste 2hrs cutting little pieces out with a air hammer.

    look at the area of cutting and welding,for me it is not worth cutting the panel.i will rather repair the damage panel and send to pro painter.
