Looks absolutely amazing. This is why I want to be a panel beater, the job satisfaction is what I look for when it's done. Great video and you done a fantastic job, well done!
nice video, Thanks for making it. How about the "Spot" welds you grinned to remove the panel? did not see you putting any welds on those grinned spots after putting new panel? also for the MIG welder, what mixture of gas and cable type, size you use and also cable speed and voltage? Thanks doing mine this weekend so wanted to ask.
Honestly I don’t remember what I had the speed and voltage on , all the welding that I did was where i did my sections and where I had punched holes which was around the taillight pocket and the trunk jam
You are a GENIUS thanks for sharing your experience WISDOM you make it look so easy can you make a video on how to paint a entire car keep up the good work
Thanks bro I’m glad you enjoyed the video this is one of my older videos so it was more basic , I like to think my newer videos look and are more helpful but definitely check those out. I’ve never painted before but I’m looking to teach myself my brothers have asked me to repair their cars and I’m thinking about painting them so stay tuned for that. I will have paint videos in the near future
Nice work. A little advice when welding the sail panel space you welds out further so it has less chance of shrinking and warping, result smaller area to mud.
Piece of advise never tack weld large areas spread your tack welds about a inch apart and stagger them as this prevents metal from warping from heat soak this reduces the amount of body filler to a minimum if any. Secondly I don't see any flange to securing the two panels did you butt the panels up to each other? Good job though.
@@AutoWizard94 Also when you grind down your welds DO NOT burn the metal blue as this will warp the metal. If you follow these simple steps you will only have to use nitro stain or as today they call it glazing putty
I was going to say the same thing all that local heat warps panels always have tacked and moved to another area and moved the heat around to stop warping!
@@herbhall3830 I am not knocking anyone that floats the metal into shape and I also agree with knocking the metal back in to shape. Also as you are most likely aware there are limits to how much you can shrink or stretch the metal with hammers and dolly's.
great work!! on the top of the panel can you tell if its been worked on? like a scar. Are you able to send me close up pictures? My M3 is basically getting the same repair and I was just wondering if there's any notice that the car has been in an accident.
I didn't take any close up picture , but it's gonna look great . A small coat of filler and metal glaze goes over any of the work and leaves it flat and looking great
I fabraicte one using some metal of the old panel clean it up prime it punch holes where the quarter is section slip it underneath and weld it then I have a place to weld the panels together
At 4mins where you are welding the rocker. Is there any metal underneath between the two panels that you weld together? Also for the other 2 of 3 spots you said you welded together, any metal backing (this video they just use butt joint and tack weld the entire cut.) What method do you use to get the cuts right. Is it making a butt joint like in this video @1:30: ua-cam.com/video/HtvtNJnn7Do/v-deo.html I will be doing my first body work and replacing a 370z quarter panel and your video has been the best yet showing me how this is done. And Ive watched a lot!
Yeah man that's exactly how you overlap the new quarter on the old one and cut using a saw like that or cut off wheel whatever you have, then you punch the holes and weld it to the rocker on the car then you have a nice backing plate to just weld in, I have more quarter panel videos up I think on the Veloster I do a quick run thru on the over lap
@@pedrocollazo4437 yeah pretty much and to have a reinforcement where the section was made , I've seen cases where they don't put a backing plate and the quarter starts cracking at the sections

Auto Wizard I liked the truck bedside video. Stronger? yes you're right, but that means that you're putting the passengers at risk, by I-CAR and Vehicle makers you're supposed to install the new panels with the same amount of welds that it had before you removed and cannot be on the same spot but next to it with the same space in between so each individual space can act as a crumple zone to absorb the main force of an impact...stronger is not always safer bud.

That is how they’re sold , as a uniside. You have to section them at the right points that are provided by GM
