  • Why Do I Own So Much Stuff?
My closets are stuffed, my drawers don’t close properly. Things are getting full of dust, and my house just looks like a mess. Like many people, I have too much stuff.
Those were my exact thoughts one year ago when i decided to find out and become part of this movement.
But are there negative consequences of having too much stuff, besides the unaesthetic looks of my cluttered desk and disorganized house?
After trying minimalism for 365 days, my conclusion is that I am not a minimalist, and that minimalism is not for me. But I am what I call an intentionalist.

What did you think of the video?

You didn't fail by going on holidays or buying an extra bottle of wine. To me, one of the points of minimalism is not to spend your money on everything, but the things that truly matter to you. I think travel and good food and wine fall into that category.

Minimalism is really just enoughism, just enough with some extra.

But then wouldn’t it also be interntionalism? Just having stuff with a purpose, intention?

I appreciate the honesty and directness of this conversation. I see a lot of videos trying to "bust minimalism" that don't talk about how it led them to a different philosophy that added value. To me, minimalism is a label I found after I already decided to stop owning things that made me unhappy. It's also content I can go back to, like this video, that motivates me to reevaluate my environment and be more intentional. Thank you for the video!

you’ve made some excellence points. minimalism itself has definitely become a product and a lot of yt channels about minimalism really do just post the same videos over and over😂 i love my decluttered space but i also think people can take it way too far, and not everyone wants to wear only black shirts or own one of every item. Great video, more people who have tried minimalism should share their experience!!

Great video, loved it! But I'll always be a sucker for minimalism videos. I think wise people move from minimalism to essentialism or, as you mention, intentionalism.

Hi Matias, what captured my attention was your honesty in your point of view. It was very interesting even if I don’t agree 100% in some of your interpretations (because for me minimalism is not a matter of deciding to have just 30 items, that’s extreme and shouldn’t be called minimalism). Even “The Minimalists” themselves are way too extreme and I had to stop consuming their content as all they are doing is selling stuff (the exact opposite of what they preach). Anyway thanks for sharing.

Fair enough! I get what you mean. I actually also stopped watching th eminimalists becase of that.. they are too extreme

To me you didn't fail. Minimalism is different to everyone there are no rules just living with intention (stuff and experiences)

YOu know that the guy you refer to as a "self proclaimed minimailst" at 1:51 is the guy behind the Netflix movie, right :)

That's the hard truth isn't it? Why do most poeple follow a certain trend/movement? To feel a sense of belonging. Often times that can be like trying to insert a square peg in a round hole. Wonderful to see you acknowledging that fact while listing out what you managed to garner.

    • @MatiasRijoM
      @MatiasRijoM  3 місяці тому +1

Indeed. I also understand people follow trends for greed (money, approval, etc). Just the sad reality of this world. I’m glad you enjoyed the video!

Good video but I’m not a minimalist bc I profit anyway financially or belong to a group but bc it frees me instead of having to care for excess stuff. I agree u don’t need to count ur stuff and it’s an individual choice how much u own

Hey, thanks for watching it! I understand your point, but don't you think you are more of an intentionalist? Minimalism it's just about having stuff, but intentionalism is more about having things with intention. Perhaps we talk about the same thing, just a difference in how we name it. Let me know your thoughts!
