My brother went on holiday once with a group of his friends for a week on the Mediterranean coast. One of the guys turned up at the airport with a supermarket carrier bag containing just a t-shirt and a pair of boxers. He was wearing his swim shorts, another t-shirt, underwear, sandals, baseball cap and sunglasses. The swim shorts were good enough to wear all day, and he just washed one of the t-shirts and one of the boxers in the bathroom sink each evening, dried them overnight, and used the hotel's free toiletries for his personal hygiene. Job done.
Love it. Just goes to show how little you really need.
Yes for the black sharpie to rub out the label! I've been scribbling out labels on clothes and bags for my entire life. Love it.
Stealth mode ;-)
I love the minimal length of your videos as much as the content.
Thanks Amanda. Appreciate your support.
Cool!
this is how I travel except with a purse and with spare socks and undies instead of an ipad
Love it.
I am too techie ;-)
Maybe one day I will ditch the bigger screen.
Looks cool. I've gone with less, only using my pockets, but that certainly isn't for everyone. If I need to carry more, I will keep this in mind.
Awesome! The only thing stopping me is my iPad. I could put everything else in my pockets and carry the iPad by hand, but I like having a bag as a central place for everything.
I really like the concept, but always prefer a small backpack as I like to travel handsfree
Makes perfect sense
@@minicalm moreover, I prefer a backpack with a closure to make sure things don't fall out of the bag by accident
I would worry about weather with a paper bag. But one could use a canvas version. But I love the experiment! I would wear a suit and pack two extra blouses, an inflatable hanger and some underwear/socks into a small compression bag.
Thanks, Maria! A canvas bag is a great idea. The experiment is about embracing simplicity and adaptability. Your packing list sounds perfect for minimalist travel!
I laughed so hard with this video’s thumbnail 😂😂😂
Impressive! And here I thought I was so minimalist when I flew cross-country, nationwide with a leather pouch (the size of your shopping bag). It held small wallet, phone, toothbrush, hairbrush, lipgloss, deoderant and two changes of clothes all rolled up. (Shampoo and soap was already supplied by the Air BnB' everything else I wore.)😃
Wardrobe tour please!
I will!
I can't argue with any of the points, but I find this fucking hilarious. Thanks.
Happy that I made you smile ;-)
I appreciate this. I like it especially bc it shows we can just be with what we have and not just consumer specific brands and features of bags (and other things). It reminds me of when i was in college and kept a small ziplock bag as my wallet. People thought it was so strange but i loved the simplicity and nonconsumerist charm of it
Too extra for me but much respect. I travel with just a 23L carry on bag all over the world. It’s very freeing vs watching all these people fussing with their multiple bags
Thanks, Richard! Respect for your 23L carry-on-true minimalist spirit! Travel light, live free.
Do you vlog too ?
@@joselynrijna462 no, not that kind of creative person.
I will replace my McBook and everything paper related with an new Ipad. And will replace every bag with just one... It is too rainy here with a paper bag for me... ;)
Tyvek paper like bags might be a better fit for rainy climates. 😉
This is great, I will be trying this in the future. I love your phone homescreen also. Will you cover that in s video in the future please?
Next video. Indeed. Amazing app.
Its literally called the minimalist app or similar. It basically changes the phone from icons to text and is amazing! You can change the size of the text to be big like his or much smaller. I love the look and I love that it encourages less apps. You can hide apps too. It costs £1.50 or similar a month, or £13 a year. It is worth it.
Interesting concept. I think I will attempt something along these lines for my next three day trip. As a woman, a few more things are necessary, but I will try this with a sturdier bag of similar dimensions. I fear my bag would rip 😬
;-) let me know how it goes. Personally there is no turning back.
I love your channel it’s so inspiring please keep making more videos. I would love to try this paper bag out…I thought I was good with cabin bag only but this is even better!
Thank you so much for the support! The paper bag is surprisingly practical! For holiday travel, for clothes and toiletries, I add a slightly bigger paper bag from my supermarket.
Please extend your extreme minimalism to your soundtrack. We can hear you better without background music. It’s distracting. Thank you!
Agree. Next time, soundtrack OFF!
Oops, I forgot to add my slim wallet (secrid) while filming to be fully complete...
I personally carry more things just to go to my kids at school! That was very unexpected! I did laugh a lot though. Thank you so much!
A backpack would be my whole wardrobe 😂
I am on a minimal side.. dut definitely not extreme. I can't imagine your level of freedom!!
Love it! Metaphorical perhaps, but point well made!
Much appreciated, Alicia. Happy to hear it resonated with you.
Interesting video. I used to do something similar, I'd use a plain cotton bag from Muji. Compact, strong, reusable, lowish environmental impact (not synthetic), and you can dye it black if you wish.
Great alternative, stronger too…
I love it. I would put everything in my pockets and just carry the Ipad in hand.
An other alternative indeed, personally I prefer one central location for everything.
@@minicalm Right on. Also just wanted to say that I love the content you are putting out! It's always great to find another awesome minimalist channel.
subscribed-was great vid-i travel with a day pack for 5 days
Thanks for subscribing! Day pack sounds perfect!
Ive seen some of your videos and i like their vibe. I have always enjoyed bareness in rooms but that changed over time. If i may add some criticism therefore of the extreme minimalist lifestyle. "The desire for the cessation of desire is still desire" i got that from an alan watts video. And applied to material possessions a t means imo the accumulation of nothingness is still accumulation. What ive realised is that aethetics should not be the end itself but functionality. If owning less leads to more practical lifestyle then it is good, but it if it prevents me from doing stuff than it is also bad. So once i got rid of the metaphor of emptiness for my mental state i changed a bit and started adding some colour to my life. Now i dont need to obsess about having everything bare and tidy or tucked away. But thats just me.
I definitely get a buzz from decluttering and the empty aesthetic...working on it. I, too, love this guy's vibe.
Minimalism should serve you, not the other way around.
The empty aesthetic is a rush. Keep at it. Appreciate the love!
👍
Hello,
Thank you for sharing. We are currently traveling and although I would love for us to travel this minimally, I just cannot see how we would manage without my prescriptions and everything else that we need. I am interested in understanding more how you do it. Would you kindly answer a few questions which might help me. What do you do for essentials such as soap bar, change of clothes, underwear? Do you buy everything when you arrive at your destination? Thank you in advance,
Hi Marielle,
Thank you for your message! On transatlantic trips, I often stay at my parents' house in Europe where I have some clothes and essentials stored. When traveling for holidays, I just bring a small supermarket bag as my additional cabin luggage for clothes and essentials.
Safe travels!
@@minicalm Thank you. I understand better now. I appreciate you taking the time to explain all of this to me.
😂 let’s pray for no rain… As much as I love the idea of simplicity this just doesn’t look practical. I would feel too insecure about damaging it and loosing my stuff.
Stay simple and dry! 🌦️
So this is what the stone carved Egyptian men with bags were carrying and why. Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
They knew the secret of traveling light. Thanks for the love!
hell yea
Who needs baggage when you've got freedom?
Love it! But what about the shoes, shorts, t-shirts and all of that?
Glad you like it. For this long international trip I was staying at my parents' house where I have some clothes. For holidays, I use a slightly larger supermarket paper bag for additional clothes.
@@minicalm nice! I always use super market bags 😅
No clothes for your holiday?
Staying at my parents' house where I have some clothes. For holidays, I use a slightly larger supermarket paper bag for additional clothes :-)
What about clothes and toiletries?
When visiting my parents, I have clothes and toiletries there. For holiday travel, I use a slightly bigger paper bag from my supermarket, and that’s it!
I like it.
I would want a small bag with a zipper. A man purse?
Glad you like it! A small bag with a zipper sounds great, especially for keeping things secure. Personally, I prefer it without a zipper for easy access.
What about your clothes?
I had clothes waiting at my destination.
Used a paper bag once, and it ripped before the journey ends
You're right, a paper bag does have its limits and needs to be handled with care.
It's not realistic at all, especially if you're going to the airport and travel to another location. I'm a minimalist traveller buy why will I use a paper bag if I can use a small carry on bag, a tote or backpack. This is not a good idea but thank you for sharing.
Fair enough! Everyone has their own style.
I've been thinking about this idea and I see it not very much useful in certain situations that I've faced during my traveling experiences. It looks cool, but not as practical as I would like. And again, thanks for sharing.
Is this a troll video?
Nope, it's real ;-) Just a paper bag for extreme minimalism.
