      Well done mate.
I'm getting one of these. I intend to go full on stealth.
      Pull out house sofa bed,
Collapsible, removable wood burning stove, roof stove jack with a removable spinner vent for when the stove is packed away, minimalist stealth insulation, zero windows, zero wiring, zero plumbing, zero permanent fixings,
(NO NEED TO DECLARE AS A MODIFIED VEHICLE) removable, hand pump sink unit out of a caravan, folding table and chairs, tent portaloo,
Ecoflow delta 1300 solar power station with fold away solar panels and a removable roof rack mount to run a TV, bucket fridge, microwave, USB rechargeable, removable magnet lights, diesel heater and propane heater for stealth heating, plastic storage crates and drawers all modular removable.
Everything in my van will be packable when not in use meaning NO NEED TO REGISTER AS A CAMPER VAN,.
cops stop me, they open the back, A LOAD OF BOXES AND A SOFA STOOD ON END.
      I'm transporting household items.
NO WAY TO BE ACCUSED OF "LIVING A NOMADIC Lifestyle" meaning no way to be forced to get the new, tyranny based
      " traveller passport "
(for which I assume we'd be forced to get vaxxed and tested with the deadly bio weapons.)
Dvla have now stipulated tons of features which must be declared and evidenced in order to register as a camper van... MASSIVE CON in order to track who's doing what, living where, , when, how and why....
MANY people are falling into these mass surveillance traps.
Looks like you got an excellent van there will.
Thanks for all the great videos.

Will. As someone who had spent years camping with my family in an old Sherpa van, I would suggest that you find some sort of sound dampening / insulation sheeting to the inside of the van, it'll cut down on the condensation that will build up.
And if there's none fitted get some of those spinning vent thing on the roof.
It looks great so have fun.

Max fan in the ceiling. Lithium battery. A bit expensive but the last twice as long as a lead acid (yrs that is) and you can use 80% of their energy in stead of 50% before having to charge. To keep things as spacious as possible remember. The main goal is to be able to get out of the rain, and have a decent bed. Keep the rest 'camping' Minimal kitchen or cook outside. Water in a jug. How much do you really need? A gallon a day is actually enough. Bathrooms are everywhere. But, have one of those 5 gallon buckets with a seat that snaps on with a bag inside it for rare times you need it. Forget the back doors for entry. Build a wall at the back with a screen from the mattress up, and open the doors for a view. The back, under the bed can be outside accessible storage. Here's my cargo trailer conversion I did years ago. It has some ideas you might find useful.... or not. ua-cam.com/video/n-HhUutMogA/v-deo.html

    Just a couple of points,
1)if you start cutting Windows etc, it's not gonna be stealth, it's gonna look like a camper
2)maybe cheaper buying 2nd hand doors with windows already fitted
    3)insulate
    4) maybe a bed that you could raise to the roof, would leave plenty of floor space, during the day. Good luck with your plans

Insulation: spray on stuff may be easy to apply, but it will be pain to deal with if you have to do rust repairs - unless there is a product that not only insulates heat, noise and PEELS OFF EASILY. Condensation will be an issue, slow continuous low power ventilation might be good for stealth trips. There are ready made vent solutions.
Also plan for cabling - helps in getting the lights (and other future projects) neatly installed.
For stealth gigs, that is a perfect vehicle.
Hang up safety helmet and vest in the cabin, seal off light leaks, leave it somewhere with orange cones around it - maybe near a spot where actual work is being done.

Congratulations! I've followed some other travel vloggers and two things that might work for your van are insulation and a skylight. The panels look like I good outline to work with and you could insulate behind them and travel more comfortably in colder climates. However, if you were already going to cut the body I would do a skylight too rather than extra windows. You won't lose wall space, still get natural light, and you could put a small deck on top for extra living space (but still fit your solar panels). Good luck.

Good insulation everywhere, toilet , maybe a hose for outside shower tent solution. Sude awning. A bit more ambitious, slide outs at the side or even automatic raising of cut out roof section for even more head height or much higher sleep solution creating even more space in the van. Definitely big flat screen tv, whatever you do, it will be cool mate.

  • @austinswallow
    @austinswallow 3 роки тому

I would suggest installing thermal insulation before you do anything. The most suitable product would be "spray foam" the contractor will spray the insulation into all the nooks & crannies to give a complete thermal envelop, something you will appreciate on the colder nights & hotter days (works both ways). They would do the van in an hour or so, really simple and job done.
Cutting into the roof to install roof lights would be good for ventilation, especially when sleeping, overhead windows could be better than in the side as it would be less obvious when stealth camping. Roof light kits would be easier to fit too.
    An awesome project, well done!

  • @stuspawton
    @stuspawton 3 роки тому

So what I would do with your SWB Ducato:
Remove the top half of the bulkhead and put the kitchen along the bulkhead. Cut the windows in as planned and have the bed as you want it with the dinette, as planned. Doing the kitchen down one side AND having a seat would be too tight and feel too claustrophobic.
You could put a small toilet cubicle behind the drivers seat and make a small kitchen running behind the passenger side keeping along the bulkhead.
These are the things I would consider for the layout.
As for electrics, building your own 12v power system is do-able but I would consider the xtremevan power stuff because it's an all in one 12v system, it's very good and I've been using it for most conversions I've built

The lights and fan not working might just be blown fuses. Check the users manual, if you have one, or online, to see which fuses control what.
For the thingy at the back door, maybe go to a junk yard (where they put damaged vehicles) and show them what you need. There's bound to be something off a van that would work. You might find a back lock, too. And it never hurts to have a gas tank lock, if you park in an area where petrol gets stolen.
    Hope this helps.

Nice project but some advice you do need to plan the layout, as there is so much to fit into it as you said its going to be something special. Things to include, heating wardrobe , pluming wast tanks, fresh water tanks, shower or washing your self, tv , split charging leisure battery, sola lighting 12/240v insulation, roof vent, do you want hot water on tap. Sofa area to relax in. Gas bottle or LPG, window blinds, let me know if you need any advice i have don three vans now. I have just done a new ford transit custom L2H2 lwb full off grid camper van. Stay safe 👍

You're right - there are a thousand other van builders on UA-cam...... but you will tell us the truth about cost and complexity, no bullshit, no bollocks. I'm really looking forward to seeing how you progress, Will!
I suspect that you already know to look at Greg Virgoe and Nate Murphy for vanbuilding ideas/advice? (and Liam the Terrible is good for tips too)
Oh - I presume you will be naming your new home Mary?

    Great van Will👍
First thing I’d do is insulate the “living” area. Even before the basics you have planned.
It’ll keep you cool in summer and warm in winter! Once it’s done it can be hidden away behind some plywood panelling and forgotten.
    Also do some basic wiring.
If you find yourself struggling with your mental health, as I often do, you must find a distraction. You have a fantastic project here, work on it, plan it, research it and think of all the amazing places you can take us all!
    Kind regards

After watching your stealth camping videos I'm excitedto see what you do with your van. I have recently finished converting my Renault Master van in Ireland, with our first outing next weekend. I'd never done anything like this either, it wasn't always easy, but will be so worth it when you have it done.
I would recommend the restoration couple van build on you tube to get you started.
I went for shower/toilet behind driver seat, kitchen in the middle, with bed/dining at the back, but so many different designs.
The very best of luck with your new adventure. Look forward to seeing what you do.

CONSIDER, any storage method you put in under your bed, make it accessible from inside the van as in cold weather and rain you don't want to have to get out to access stuff! also love the content and can't wait to follow this along!

Awesome purchase! I can't wait to see how this project evolves. Something I might suggest, since you have plenty of space now, would be some camera mounts on the walls. Maybe one at a nice angle above your kitchen area for some van cooking videos, and maybe one by the sliding door and one at a rear corner. You could also look into some small photography LED panels you can mount for directional lighting during specific camera shots. Best of luck!

Great job - the Ducato makes a great camper van.
My own van is similar to yours , but a little longer in the body.
Mine has a different engine , a 2.2 liter turbo diesel , but it runs great , and gets quite insanely good fuel consumption.
I am deliberately keeping my van look like a delivery van and not a camper , so no windows , no solar panels , no awnings , and no bicycles hanging off the back :-)

I did a transit conversion, and would echo some of the comments here, best to get the windows done by a professional, it’s far less stressful and they have the tools and know how. Mine were all done in less than a day. Otherwise looks a great sized van, you’ll learn at lot doing it. Definitely a fun project!

Wow Will, you’ve started off with a blank canvas, so you can do whatever you want to do. It’s your van, your project. I didn’t know there were so many van channels, but, I’ll follow just yours, as it’s all been great so far. The best thing I’ve found out about stealth is sometimes the most obvious is the stealthiest, so the white van is perfect. Its wearing a high vis jacket, you can get into anywhere you like without question. Good luck, enjoy the renno, looking forward to seeing the progress. Rog. 😎

Nice one Will, glad you were able to find the right van and can finally share with us all. My advice would be to elevate the bed as high as possible so that you can use the space beneath as storage. Figure out how far from the roof it needs to be with you sitting up in bed and your head just shy of ceiling. And watch out for leaving the van out in that industrial estate, particularly at weekend, Redhill is not the safest place around. I know the area well, my office is just round the corner from the garage you are using. Cheers, good luck.

Will, a good choice of van, those are the perfect size, you can fit a double bed across the Back of the van.
I previously converted a low roof which was a pain but you have hit the nail on the head with that van.

  • @NoGGy
    @NoGGy 3 роки тому

I think having a sideways bed is a bad idea. I would go length ways and have kitchen and storage on one side and bed on the other. That way you have easy access at the rear. If you ever need those rear doors you will have a bed bang in the way. You can also do like pull draws or storage units that you could pull out at the rear. Also another good idea is having a shower attached to the rear door so when you open it you can have a shower head attached to the inside of the rear door and shower outside.

Iv seen some people put their kitchen on the sliding door side, basically building out maybe 1/3 if the door space, so that you can cook looking out the door etc, then room for seating/bathroom/storage cupboard etc at the driver side that you plan on putting your kitchen

Wil go to google and type in ‘fiat ducato camper layout’ and click on images. Then although it wont give u dimensions from there, you can get a few different layouts at a quick glance for instant ideas and pick one. Its free this way. Theres ones with a shower too. Take a look. It takes a few seconds. If it was my van i would include a shower for sure and work round it.

    Congratulations 🎈🎊🎉🍾
Regarding the design, perhaps, elevate the bed (enough headroom for you while sitting up on the bed) and place a trunk or garage space underneath the bed. Perhaps, add a deck on the roof; nice area for the summer days/nights. Also, consider a toilet composting toilet.
    So excited for you👍
As s as always, thank you for sharing 😊

Will amazing purchase i am supprised you got it that cheap considering you said the price of vans are currently high. I have a few suggestions for your van build. By all means take the Bulkhead out but do not put swivel chairs in instead build a more straight upright wall add some insulation, and a doorway to get to the cab. i would advise to put the kitchen on the other side taking up half the door leaving enough room to get in and out. On the outside of the kitchen area facing where the side door would be closed put a doorway there to put gas bottles into. and somewhere for fresh and waste water containers under the counter top. on the opposite side to the door behind where the drivers seat is maybe include a toilet and sink and maybe a shower. Good idear putting the bed across the back side to side have storage underneath. Definatley add windows at the back in the sliding door and maybe one in the toilet area if you choose to so that put in slightly tinted windows for a more stealth look and a mesh of some sort so when windows are open it stops flies etc coming in and blinds and or curtains. Possibly a solar system and leisure batteries to store the power in. Also some sort of heating and cooling system.
