The Joker was played by Heath Ledger. He died a few months after wrapping filming. He had an overdose of medication while alone with bad pneumonia. He won a post humus Oscar for this performance. If you want more movies with Heath, ‘A Knight’s Tale’ is upbeat and great fun. ‘Ten Things I Hate about you’ is a modern day adaption of Shakespeare’s ‘Taming of the Shrew’
Batman's 1 rule is that he won't kill. He'll beat you to a pulp, but killing is a line he won't cross. The Joker was trying to break him down and force him to break his rule. That's why he sincerely wanted Batman to run him down.
When you were talking about the budget, keep in mind that Christopher Nolan ONLY uses practical effects unless it is 100% necessary to use CGI. So every explosion, bit of structural damage, vehicle crash (including flipping a semi) are all practical effects and generally tailored to be realistic in size and scope. So you are correct, every now and then Nolan's scenes can feel "cheap" compared to CGI creations with mountains of post processing. The irony of course is that Nolan's movies are some of the most realistic that exist, at least in regard to the effects.
To get where this series started you should have watched Batman Begins. Its the first in the series which is 3 total movies. This is the second and the third is The Dark Knight Rises. All 3 are really good with their own story but all ties together. If that makes sense. Love this side of your reactions. I haven't seen a lot of movie reactions and I enjoy your point of view on things coming from a different country. Thank you
Batman Begins plays the groundwork for the Dark Knight. True you can watch them independently but she asked for context about Rachel and Bruce and that is definitely played out in Batman Begins. Also shows how and why he became Batman so it's a yes and no.
Are you stupid? You definitely need to watch BB first, as evidenced by this woman watching the Dark Knight without seeing it, and being confused many times.
@@WheresWaldo05 For the Batman Nolan trilogy specifically, to get the best experience you have to watch all three. Sure Batman Begins wasn't great, but it totally pays off in The Dark Knight Rises. You yourself have watched the whole trilogy.
Alot of the questions you had would've been answered if you had watched the first one. Hope you react to it soon. The Nolan trilogy was record breaking and proved that superhero movies could be taken seriously. Before the whole Marvel stuff came.
The movie was a true hype when it was released after the tragic loss of Heath Ledger, who was a fantastic actor. And he posthumous received an Oscar for this role. I watched it in the cinema and really like ledger as the Joker. I have also seen the Jack Nicholson version of The Joker but I think Ledger's far more sinister version I like better. In general I am not a real fan of superhero movies or comics but the Dark Night Trilogy and other "darker" comics I do appreciate. It is great to see your reaction to this movie and I also sometimes have a hard time remembering names of actors. In this movie there are many well known actors. My favourite is Gary Oldman and if I may recommend a movie to watch and perhaps react to: "Léon: The Professional" from 1994. This movie, what else can i say, is just freaking amazing! Top tier superhero film and Heath Ledger as the Joker is superb

"I would love to remove the makeup . . . the makeup off just to see how he looks." Beneath the Joker makeup, Heath Ledger was actually a rather pretty man. (He was initially known for playing the "heartthrob" lead in the teen romantic comedy 10 Things I Hate About You.)
In the first movie Batman Begins, you find out why he doesn't kill and why it is his one rule. Also you find out that he pretends to be a rich jerk kinda guy so no one would suspect he is Batman
The Joker said, he never plans anything. Yet from the time the Chinese guy got captured by Batman, everything that happened after that, up until he broke out of jail, he preplanned!
The Dark Knight is the best movie in history of DC movies. Heath Ledger had been The Joker where he won Oscar for best villain. Unfortunately he died before the release of the movie. 16:38 - The Director avoided the actress (Maggie Gyllenhall) to see Heath Ledger on his character makeup untill that moment. And that interaction with the knife in front of her face, when she looks back, she was facing the Director, with a body language of "What's going on? You will keep going like this?" and terror.
Part of the reason you might be lost in the beginning, is because Dark Knight is actually part of a trilogy. Dark Knight of course, is the best of the three. The first one, Batman Begins, establishes the Batman character & his mindset. Particularly, his primary rule: Batman DOES NOT KILL. EVER. Bruce already realizes that his alter-ego is dark. So that line must never be crossed. Because there's no coming back from it. That said, each movie, though part of a trilogy, stands well enough on it's own though. When you're familiar with Batman lore, it's no problem understanding the story right away. Like you, Biss, I'm more of a Marvel fan. Always have been since I was a kid. But I do have a soft spot for certain DC characters too. Batman is definitely one. Its also worth mentioning that Stan Lee (RIP) was also a fan. Oh, & also yes! Heath Ledger completely crushed his role as Joker, & yes, he did posthumously win an Oscar for his performance not long after his untimely passing. Great reaction Biss!
I know this is a year late but I’d like to give a bit of information!! The scene at 28:00 all of that was mostly legitimate heath ledger (the joker) actually wanted Christian bale (the Batman) to hit him for real and was egging him on to hit him as hard as he possibly could because he wanted it to feel as real as it could.
I am not a fan of any of these superheroes movies. However I did see this movie when it came out mainly because of Heath Ledger playing the role of the Joker. It is tragic he died way too soon. He was a great actor. That line"Why so serious" and seeing his face I can never forget. I love all your reactions with music and now movies and series. Your total honesty is really appreciated.

batman is not marvel... there are no superpowers it's a detective comic... it's more earthy... even if some scenes are ridiculous. it's more human than human.
I tend to think _any_ _Batman_ franchise is at its best when the Dark Knight squares off against the Joker. I found it _incredibly_ bold when _this_ franchise started off with the Dark Knight squaring off against Ra's Al Ghul _instead,_ but it worked, even though they pronounced his _name_ the wrong way. It's true, Bruce Wayne doesn't have any powers. He's wealthy, but he saw both his parents gunned down when he was incredibly young. He inherited his family's fortune, though the day came when he decided to devote that fortune to _training_ himself. He spent _years_ mastering various _fighting_ styles, achieving fluency in various foreign _languages,_ getting numerous _degrees,_ and every time in the canon that _Superman_ has ended up dead, it hasn't been at _Lex Luthor's_ hand. It's been at _Batman's._
Batman keeps saving the villains, because he knows that if he makes that concession just once, it'll be that much easier for him to make that concession again and again and again. That's why he has to stick so religiously to his one rule, because if he ever lets the monster out of the cage, he'll never get it back in again.
Your feeling at the beginning that a 2008 movie should look better might be because the director used very little CGI in this movie. If you're used to Marvel, this film will certainly feel different. Eg., the truck flip was done for real.
Tbh i agree with her that most of the action scenes in this movie are mediocre and even poor sometimes, what it sustains this movie it's the score, the cast and dialogues, but the action sure could had better direction (and it's not cause the lack of cgi, ok contrary, the cgi it's easier to feel outdated as year passed compared with practical effects, just watch the first Avengers movie and You Will see

I did not watch the first movie Because I was told that If i know the story of Batman from the Cartoons that should be enough , well It seems like You guys do not agree so for the next Reaction should I go back and watch Natman Begins? Or I should just React to THE DARK KNIGHT RISES? What should be the best move?
Favourite Batman: Michael Keaton. Favourite costume: the first one Bruce wears at the beginning of Batman Forever. Best Joker: Heath Ledger... very close to the Phoenix one. Nice video! Greetings from Argentina! 🙋🏻♂️
This is the second film of the Dark Knight trilogy - the first film is Batman Begins, I hope you didn't miss out seeing that first! [2005-JUN-15] BATMAN BEGINS (featured villains : The Scarecrow, Ra's Al-Ghul) [2008-JUL-18] THE DARK KNIGHT (featured villains : The Joker, Two-Face) [2012-JUL-20] THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (featured villains : Bane, Catwoman) That first title is very "exclusionary" in a way, if one was to go searching and entered "dark knight" they would only find the latter 2 movies. They should have called the first movie "Dawn Of The Dark Knight" or have that as a sub-title in addition ; like "Batman Begins : Dawn Of The Dark Knight". The whole "Dawn" thing even sounds more clever cos it sounds like a play on words about the literal dawn of a new day following a dark night. Which isn't the best descriptor of the Batman legend, but still... Maybe the second film could have been called "The Dark Knight Rises" and the final film could have been something like "Fall Of The Dark Knight" or "The Dark Knight Falls".. Meh, whatever.
The thing Batman does in China with Lau with the plane grabbing him by wire is a real thing developed for special forces and secret operations that really works and is just being grabbed by a plane and dragged, it's called "Fulton surface-to-air recovery system (STARS)" and in all of its (known) uses there has only been one fatality!
The technique where the plane pulled Batman and that Chinese guy from the ground into the air is actually a real thing. It's called the Fulton Surface To Air Recovery System (STARS) or sky hook.
Favourite joker is definitely this one- Heath Ledger. I enjoyed this movie but the newest one that came out this year was very very good. “The Batman” definitely should check it out.
18:54 Morgan Freemans reaction is so golden :D love it you ever played the Arkham Games of Batman? Truly masterpiece. you will love it. there are 4 Games My favorite Batman movies are the old ones. Michael Keaton was the best. My favorite Joker is Joaquin Phoenix. The Movie Joker with him derserved its oscars
This one is my favorite Batman movie. ADN this one is my favorite batman costume (he actually gets to turn his head). And oh-dearest of lords, this is my favorite Joker.
3 things: 1. This is my first time on your channel (y). 2. If you want to know more about DC, you started with the right foot. I suggest you: Man of Steel (2013), Batman V Superman (2016), Wonder Woman (2017), Aquaman (2018), Zack Snyder´s Justice League (2021), James Gunn´s Suicide Squad (2021), Watchmen (2009), The Batman (2022); and why not some animated movies such as: Batman The mask of the Phantasm, Batman Return of the Joker, The Dark Knight Returns 1 and 2, Batman Under The Red Hood and All-Star Superman ARE PHENOMENAL. And 3. This movie was released the same year as the MCU with Iron Man 1, so, if marvel begun his cinematic universe on 2008, this movie made the entire world realice that superheroe movies can be masterpieces not only for the fans, but for everyone.
Hi there! You were watching the 2nd series of the batman trilogy. That's why you have so many questions. Whoever the person gave you a request is a blockhead. He should told you to watch the first part series before this movie.
The Rachel/Bruce thing makes a lot more sense if you've seen Batman Begins. (Which also happens to be my favourite Batman movie.) Joker is tied for me between Ledger and Nicholson.
Pro tips...the hand clicking remote for the hospital bomb, was a mistake and addlibbed! The director and heath agreed he stayed totally isolated from the rest of the cast and crew, none of jokers dailies, were shown to any other cast and crew. The first scene where the main cast and crew first saw him was the party scene! Michael Caine was so terrified by him, he didn't say his lines! Rachel was so freaked out when he grabbed her, she said she almost peed herself, and had to stay in her trailer by herself, for 2 days! Heath died before the movie was done, I think he had a couple minutes of CGI. The 18 wheeler truck flip was real! The blonde son, is in lone survivor as a Navy seal! Joker always said he never plans. But from the time the Chinese guy was caught, until the joker got out of jail, he planned everything! But the question stands, is Jack or Heath the best joker? Or are they equal, but just different? Aaron said about his hospital scene with joker. That Nolan was talking to him, make-up people around, set stuff being moved, etc. And all the while, Heath is just in the room, talking to himself, being joker. Once everyone else gets out of the room, they both just start saying things, asking each other questions, talking about things that have happened in the movie. Chris Nolan starts filming. They are just riffing and addlibbing off each other, until they get to where they like where the scene and conversation is going. After about 30 minutes, Chris stops filming and tells them, we got enough. Aaron said Heath leaned over to him, a big smile on his face and said, " Now THAT'S acting!"
I always assumed the big prisoner played by Tiny Lister threw away his life on a murder charge. That would make most people re-think ever murdering anyone.
38:09 I see what you're saying here (that either pushing the detonator would destroy both ferries), but I think that idea is less evil, or maybe less chaotic, than the Joker. He WANTS people to live, knowing that they've destroyed a boatload of others, to save themselves. He WANTS them to perhaps be driven insane by the idea that their morals were so easily swept aside by their fearful need for self-preservation. He likes the idea that societal rules are pretend, artificial and abstract constructs, with no bearing on reality.
I'm not sure you read these replies or not, but I'll just tell you that if you want to see what the Joker looks like without the makeup, watch the film, "Ten Things I Hate About You", and thank me for it afterward. His real name is Heath Ledger and he died after making this film.
Great movie and fun reaction. Really enjoy when someone can see twists and turns happen before they actually happen. Batman Begins is probably a good next movie. Its the movie just before this one and you can get some information into Bruce Wayne and his becoming of Batman. Not as good a movie as this one, but it is a lot of fun.
I'm subscribed to her music reaction channel where she doesn't swear.. It seems she has more freedom here and she can say whatever the fuck she wants! I love it! Now I'm a subscriber over here.. Great job Cuteness!
"Dark Knight Rises" (batman 3) make many references to characters and events from "Batman Begins" (Batman 1), you can see the last one, but is better if you see the first one.
Christian Bale is my favorite big screen Batman. In the comics, I love Batman & Son. Also, the show Batman: The Animated Series is AMAZING... such a great show to grow up with!
So this Batman is not the DCEU Batman or even the new Batman movie that just came out. This is the 2nd movie of director Chris Nolan's Batman trilogy, quite possibly my favorite Batman to date but the newest one with Robert Pattinson, is slowly growing on me. Yes there is a lot of overlap with other Batman stories but there is a lot of great character and world development by the final movie, Batman Rises. I would highly recommend watching Batman Begins before the final movie otherwise (while it's a great movie) a lot of the dramatic punch might come off as more flat because you don't have that familiarity with the entire story. Just a thought. Great reaction!
Oh, now you absolutely need to watch the 1989 Batman film! The version with Micheal Keaton, Jack Nicholson and Kim Basinger will give you quite a nice contrast to this movie!! 😆 It beat Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Ghostbusters II at the box office, and it was the highest-grossing movie based on DC Comics until this 2008 Dark Knight!
@bisscute, check out the Australian movie, Two Hands, with Heath Ledger (Joker). It was his breakout role that got him discovered. Ledger is a National Treasure to us Aussies. Sad story though...

The guy who said you recognized was William Fichtner. And that reminds me: He was in a really AWESOME (clever, funny, suspenseful, socially cynical) film titled "Go." He DID get an oscar...... and died.... same time...... a REAL dark knight! RIP heath!!!!! 🥺🥺🥺🥺😳
17:55 "Are you all right?"
"Um... yeah. I don't know _how,_ though. We completely _totaled_ this _car."_
great reaction...the guy who played the joker was an Australian man named heath ledger..he didn't actually live long enough to see the movie, he died before the film was released..but, he did win the oscar that year...rip health
If you want understand the last one you need really need to see the first one. There’s important information .
Go Watch Batman first (1989) and then Batman Begins and TDKR.
Batman has just one rule, he doesn't kill. That's because he had two chances to get the Joker, but he didn't.
Favourite Batman: Michael Keaton.
Favourite costume: the first one Bruce wears at the beginning of Batman Forever.
Best Joker: Heath Ledger... very close to the Phoenix one.
Nice video! Greetings from Argentina! 🙋🏻♂️
32:28 Harvey Dent: Say it!
32:30 The girl: Jesús Lord!
this is the second film in the trilogy, it would be great to bring their reactions too.
This is the second film of the Dark Knight trilogy - the first film is Batman Begins,
I hope you didn't miss out seeing that first!
[2005-JUN-15] BATMAN BEGINS (featured villains : The Scarecrow, Ra's Al-Ghul)
[2008-JUL-18] THE DARK KNIGHT (featured villains : The Joker, Two-Face)
[2012-JUL-20] THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (featured villains : Bane, Catwoman)
That first title is very "exclusionary" in a way, if one was to go searching and entered "dark knight" they would only find the latter 2 movies.
"I would kill him just because he talk so much" LMAO perfect quote I love it. Another great reaction!!!!
His name is Heath Ledger. He was a great actor. I would love to see you react to "A Knights Tale". It was one of his best movies.
Harvey blames Gordon because Gordon’s unit was corrupt and Harvey told him earlier in the movie. Gordon didn’t listen.
Favourite joker is definitely this one- Heath Ledger. I enjoyed this movie but the newest one that came out this year was very very good. “The Batman” definitely should check it out.
Ohhh Ok Movies also..This Movie was Just Gold .Health Ledger😢RIP one of His Final Projects and Just REINVENTED THE JOKER..3Timez
In the Theatres
All i can say is, you never see me and Batman in the same room at the same time.
18:54 Morgan Freemans reaction is so golden :D love it
you ever played the Arkham Games of Batman? Truly masterpiece. you will love it. there are 4 Games
My favorite Batman movies are the old ones.
For other DC-based films, here are some options to consider:
Christopher Reeves as Superman (first two)
- Superman: The Movie (1978)
Favorite Batman movie - this one! Favorite Batman costume? Probably this one. Favorite joker? Absolutely this one!
'I wrote the script, guys.' Refreshing to have that admitted.
The Rachel/Bruce thing makes a lot more sense if you've seen Batman Begins. (Which also happens to be my favourite Batman movie.) Joker is tied for me between Ledger and Nicholson.
Te problem it's the change of actress, i was confused af the first time i Saw dark knight for that reason xD
By the way, the soundtrack of The Dark Knight (2008) was performed by Hans Zimmer.
Love your reactions Bisscute. This is the second movie of a trilogy. The first one is Batman begins. 😊
The Batman movie that just came out last year in my opinion is the best Batman movie made.
I always assumed the big prisoner played by Tiny Lister threw away his life on a murder charge. That would make most people re-think ever murdering anyone.
You want to understand the story with Rachel, you need to see the _first_ movie in the franchise. That's called _Batman Begins._
The first Womder Woman with Gal Gado is really solid. And this is the best Batman in my opinion. Though the other two with this actor are good too.
Hi Biss I actually loved your reaction! You look so cute and lovely! 😍
35:24 He got the Oscar😊
He had died, but still got it.
Then I’ll watch that before ☺️
very very smart, beautiful lady, here. knew what/how the joker was thinking, and would've ended him...that's good fighting evil.
heat ledger won the oscar for the joker performance
Gary Oldman is great in Bram Stoker’s Dracula from 94-95ish. If you are Romanian, you really should like it!
this is what happens when you don't watch batman begins first - she was so friggin clueless lmao
Rip Heath Ledger the actor who played joker in this movie
Oh, now you absolutely need to watch the 1989 Batman film! The version with Micheal Keaton, Jack Nicholson and Kim Basinger will give you quite a nice contrast to this movie!! 😆
It beat Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Ghostbusters II at the box office, and it was the highest-grossing movie based on DC Comics until this 2008 Dark Knight!
@bisscute, check out the Australian movie, Two Hands, with Heath Ledger (Joker). It was his breakout role that got him discovered. Ledger is a National Treasure to us Aussies. Sad story though...
You won girl..... im a subscriber now! Yes youre adorable!!! Yes youre gorgeous..... but your ractions are so so cute... so... im here now......... you win 😳🙄
Gj?! 😆 gj..... 🥰🥰😍😍😍
this was definitely my Fav Batman, but I do admit, I do like Tim Burton's yellow and black batman suit.
Heath Ledger won an Oscar for this Joker character! What a legend!!!
4:04 girlie, i told you before..... in the 80s......... the budget was exsctly the same!!! The 90s..... same.... humans are ALWAYS trying to make it.... just a little "cooler" ooooooooo and we accomplish it everytime..
And im nOT "yelling!!!!" I promise! 🥰😍
The guy who said you recognized was William Fichtner. And that reminds me: He was in a really AWESOME (clever, funny, suspenseful, socially cynical) film titled "Go." I've never seen it as a youtube reaction, but I think it would make a TERRIFIC reaction movie -- especially from someone like you, who enjoys irony and sarcasm and similar.
He gone way to soon. Biscuit you really should see a knights tale . It’s something you will love. I swear
probably this is my favourite batman and of cause the best joker.
but the new batman movie from last year is epic too!
Its part of batmans code, even though the joker should of been killed, batman WONT kill anyone
