It isn't Christmas in my house until Hans Gruber is THROWN out of the Nakatomi Building. 😎 🎄 Fun Fact: Alan Rickman nearly passed up the role of Hans Gruber, which ended up being his first film role. He had only arrived in Hollywood two days earlier and was appalled by the idea of his first role being the villain in an action film. To a degree, Rickman was right to be concerned considering his performance as Hans Gruber was so hailed that the actor had to struggle being typecast as a player of villains for much of his career. First Face-Off Fact: The scene in which Gruber and McClane meet fir the first time was inserted into the script after Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) was found to be proficient at mimicking American accents. The filmmakers had been looking for a way to have the two characters meet prior to the climax and capitalized on Rickman's talent. Making Lemonade Fact: The scene where McClane falls down a shaft was a mistake by the stuntman, who was supposed to grab the first vent, as it originally was planned. He slipped and continued to fall, but the shot was used anyway; it was edited together with one where McClane grabs the next vent down as he falls.

It's a Christmas movie because it takes place at a Christmas party on Christmas Eve, but also because the movie is about someone miraculously overcoming impossible odds to save the day and good triumphing in the end. It's the kind of hopeful theme that fits right in with the Christmas season.
Pity UA-cam doesn't show the thumbs down totals anymore. It is a Christmas movie! It's set at Christmas, there's Christmas music and there's a Christmas tree. Also it's about family. Why do you think it isn't one?
Both were made long before I was born, but "A Christmas Story", and "Miracle on 34th Street" were always on TV at my house during Christmas. "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (cartoon) was another 1.

You asked how Karl was still alive at the end. Easy. John wrapped that chain around Karl's neck and hung him from the ceiling right below the roof that blew up. When the roof blew up, it also destroyed that ceiling so Karl fell to the floor. Why didn't the chain around his neck kill him? When you hang somebody, the two ways they might die are from a broken neck or from suffocation. Breaking the neck means the person needs to fall at least a meter or so. Karl did not fall so his neck did not break. Suffocation takes about 4-5 minutes to kill a person. Karl was only hanging for about a minute, maybe a little more, so he didn't suffocate. It took him a bit to wake up and make his way down. You saw the result.

The only reason the two main characters, John McClane and Hans Gruber are in the building is because it's Christmas. John is there hoping the Christmas spirit of family will help him reconcile with his estranged wife. Hans is there to get rich by taking the Christmas party hostage. One represents traditional Christmas family values, the other the corrupted materialistic side of Christmas. And it ends with the former winning, and spending Christmas with his family. This movie is 100% a Christmas movie. It's unusual for a Christmas movie to also be an action movie, but the two are not mutually exclusive.
#1 the intention...director John McTiernan and writer Steven De Souza have confirmed that Die Hard is a Christmas movie (but there's more) the Christmas theme and motif are central to the film The basic narrative situation of Die Hard is a man traveling long-distance to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged wife and their children. It's set at an office party on Christmas Eve The chief villain Hans Gruber explicitly invokes the Christmas spirit: “It’s Christmas, Theo, it’s a time for miracles.” As the vault door opens and the crescendoing chords of "Ode to Joy" boom over the soundtrack, Theo has the expression of a kid coming downstairs to see piles and piles of presents. "Merry Christmas," he whispers in awe. Merry Christmas, indeed "Die Hard" is chock full of Christmas songs. Both the opening and closing credits, in fact, feature "Winter Wonderland" and "Let it Snow," there's Beethoven's "Ode to Joy,"and let's not forget Run-D.M.C.'s 1987 single "Christmas in Hollis." played by limousine driver Argyle when picking up John from the airport. We have a story where one man is after pure material gain, using once-sincere beliefs as a disguise to get what he wants, while another man opposes him, fighting for his family and his principles and it all takes place on Christmas Eve. That sure sounds like a Christmas movie to me. Love, sacrifice, family, friendship, good conquering evil, and reconciliation His wife is called Holly Hans is the Grinch Argyle (as in socks) hangs out (like a stocking) There is an invocation of Jesus Christ, Mary, & Joseph Another big recurring theme of Christmas movies is a lack of faith and at first no one believes. Even John begins to lose hope but perseveres to the end "Season's Greetings" packing tape inspiration used to tape hand gun to John McClane's back Santa Claus makes an appearance Ho-Ho-Ho (even if it's in the form of a dead terrorist). See, "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie! 😉🎄🎅🦌✨
"Now I have a michine gun too, Ho! Ho! Ho!" "Yippie KaYay, Mother****er!" "Eeeeenkkk! Sorry Hans, wrong answer!" "Come out to the Coast! We'll get together, have a few laughs! Click!" "Looks like we're gonna need some more FBI guys." Some of the best lines ever.
Anyone else out there think like I do that one of the most underrated jokes in the movie occurs when Argyle is feeling helpless and feels the silent judgement from the teddy bear in the back seat? "Shut up..." 😂
it's a christmas movie because he's going out to l.a. to visit his kids for christmas , his wife holly her boss and all of the other employees are at a christmas party , characters are singing christmas songs and people are wishing other people a merry christmas
Bisscute, I am so happy you made this second channel, I started out on your first, but I love your movie reactions! Always looking forward to your next upload 😊
It’s a Christmas movie because all John wants is to be home with his family for the holidays. See? It’s basically the same story as It’s A Wonderful Life.
The Christmas movies that accompanied my childhood (watched over and over again) are "Trading Places" (1983) and "Scrooged" (1988), both very funny and with excellent actors.
It is a Christmas movie. What do you do at Christmas time? Go see family right? John is reconnecting with his wife, Powell is going home to see his wife and Argyle is going to his Girlfriend. Hans Powell and John are introduced using Christmas songs.
For my family, it’s not Christmas until we watch the original 1947 black and white Miracle on 34th Street. I do like watching Die Hard around this time of year too though lol
Back in the 70s and 80s we called that the relax era of policing hearing Gun Fire in the background could’ve been fireworks going off on Christmas. 19:13
What is the traditional Christmas movie? A Christmas Story of course. What other movie gets a full 24 hours of airplay in the USA during Christmas? It's a must watch

I got into watching old movies as a teen with my friends. The one that became my go to Christmas movie is We're No Angels (1955) starring Humphrey Bogart, Peter Ustinov, Aldo Rae, Joan Bennett, Basil Rathbone, Leo G. Carrol, Gloria Talbot and John Baer. It's a wonderful light romantic comedy. I really hope you get a chance to see it.
One of my favourite Christmas movies! (It's a Christmas movie because it's set at Christmas, and also there's a Christmas tree). I also really like Bad Santa
Sts it might be nice to remember that now, 20 Dec, we are only 2 days away from the 'original winter feast' as celebrated for 100s of years before 'Xmas' hijacked it and moved it 2-3 days forward. Winter solstice, on 22nd Dec, was always the thing before our modern Xmas. Then people used to eat well, drink too much, give little gifts, kiss under a mistletoe, go around singing songs to ward off evil spirits, decorate houses with branches and worship a dressed winter man. Sounds familiar, as those 'pagan' rites have survived till today in the form of 'Xmas'. Btw., Grusse aus Finnland mit viel Schnee heute und Tschussi. Frohe Weihnachten / Season's Greetings!
Its a xmas movie because it's a feel good ending, it has simplistic themes, it is devoid of politics or other controversial topics. Something for the whole family to enjoy together.
I love watching this with you! One of my all time favorite movies!!! Die Hard is definitely a family tradition with us! Can't wait to see more on your journey!!!
There are several Christmas movies that I grew up with, and now I am fortunate to have them on DVD or Blu-Ray... Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Frosty the Snowman, but the one that I have watched more than the others is A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Is this a Christmas movie? Definitely. It takes all the themes of family, friendship, greed and forgiveness of a “traditional” Christmas movie which would normally take place on the snowy East coast of America and moves them to Californian where everything is supposed to be extravagant and over the top and plays them out in an action movie
It’s always been a Christmas movie. I mean, it literally takes place on Christmas Eve. There are tons of Christmas decorations in nearly every scene. It’s a Christmas movie by default.
"Home Alone" is a movie that happens at Christmas. "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie. The shows we watched when I was a kid that defined Christmas were the Rankin-Bass stop-action "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (1964) and the animated "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (1966), which BTW was a heist movie like "Die Hard."
neither Die Hard or Home Alone is a christmas movie, theyre both movies that happen to be set at christmas time, but they have nothing to do with christmas and both couldve just as easily have been set at a different time of the year. A christmas movie is a movie about christmas. Neither Home Alone nor Die Hard qualify. I know that's an unpopular opinion, because I know it's "cool" to claim that Die Hard is a christmas movie, because people for some reason seem to think that makes them unique or something (all millions of them sharing that same sentiment...) and love to comment on Every. Single. Video that "it isnt Christmas in our house until Hans Gruber its thrown out of the Nakatomi building" like some god damn parrot. I mean it's even more annoying than redditors repeating the same comments in every thread over and over and over
@@GroovingPict Home Alone is definitely a Christmas movie that revolves around and about Christmas and how it affects the McAllister family and led to certain expected/unexpected events.
In a figurative sense, the film is closer to Christmas reality than most standard Christmas films. Parents in particular are allowed to feel like John MccLane when the kids really crank it up and let out all kinds of feelings. From joy to arguments and screams, everything is there. It's a nice metaphor for christmas. 🎅
He's not talking about taking shoes and socks off in the Aircraft, he is talking about when he gets home, and this is a Christmas movie because it's set at Christmas time :)
It is 100% a Christmas movie. Take everything Christmas related in this movie and it’s just another really great action movie about a heist. There’s so many Christmas references and music cues and dialogue about the holiday. Therefore it’s a Christmas movie.
@@JohnnyXoz I think you’re thinking of Lethal Weapon. Anything Christmas was barely mentioned in that movie. There were so many verbal mentions of and about Christmas. Christmas cues in the score itself, visual cues of and about Christmas. So many references one after another in this movie. Lethal Weapon had maybe a few scattered references. One could forget that it takes place during Christmas if they’re not paying attention.
More importantly, take Christmas out of it and the movie doesn't even happen. It's not Christmas, John isn't home for the holidays. So there's no one there to save everyone, but that's okay because........ It's not Christmas, so everyone isn't staying at the office late for the big Christmas party so Hans and his gang don't even bother showing up. So take everything Christmas out of the movie, and it's not even an action movie.
Of course it is a Christmas movie and it even has a Christmas Miracle in it like Hans says " It's Christmas, Theo. It's the time of miracles. You asked for miracles, Theo, I give you the F.B.I."
I was kind of surprised when I'd learned that that police-chief had, back in the early '70's, played the role of Long Tom Roberts in George Pal's movie-adaptation of "Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze."
music and the spirit of christmas, are what make this a solid Christmas movie. michael kamen's choice of utilizing Christmas themes for the score is epic.
Bruce was broke and homeless, making calls and getting callbacks from a payphone!!! And then he got one of the best tv shows ever that made him a star, Moonlighting! Look up a few episodes here! It's a throwback to old 40s-50s movies, Cary Grant comedies.
2:50 yes, that is the reason. Christmas is not the central theme, it's about a heist/hostage situation. It's a solid action movie, but it's not a Christmas movie.
Why Die Hard is a Christmas movie: - John McClane is going to see his wife for Christmas at a Christmas party being held by the company she works for. (IE this meeting wouldn't happen any other time of year.) - The rap Arguile is listening to in the limo is about Santa Claus "This IS Christmas music!" - The orchestra at the Christmas party is playing Ode to joe. - There's a huge Christmas tree - The guy that kisses John says "Merry Christmas." - Holly makes references to Rudolph, Frosty, and Scrooge. - Holly says to her daughter "We'll see what mommy and Santa can do, okay?" - Hans makes a reference to it being the "time of miracles" and tells Theo to be of "good cheer." - When Al is picking up Twinkies "for the wife." He's singing "Let it snow." - "Now I have a Machine gun - Ho. Ho. Ho." Would not work without it being Christmas. - Ode to Joy plays when the terrorists open the vault door and Theo says "Merry Christmas!" - The tape John uses to strap his pistol to his back is Christmas wrapping tape. If it wasn't the Christmas season he wouldn't have been able to save his wife. - Papers fall from Nakatomi like snow flakes while John and Holly drive away in the limo and "Let it snow" plays. - The movie has themes regarding family, redemption, and togetherness.
What can I say, I think some people say it’s a Christmas movie so they can watch an action movie instead of a chick flick kinda Christmas moive. It also is about family, love, and is set at Christmas so the added action is just the icing on the cake!
You hit the nail on the head! It's a Christmas movie solely due to the time. That's it. Growing up, one of my all time favorite Christmas movies was "Scrooge" starring Alistair Sim. A VERY close second would have to be "Scrooged" starring Bill Murray. The first is, of course, a direct reenactment of the Charles Dickens classic; the second a "modernized", comedic version from 1988.
Fun fact: Alan Rickman didn't know about the fall at end. That's his genuine reaction. Until this movie, all action stars were basically mountains of muscles so McClain open the door to regular guy to be part of the action. Also before this movie, Bruce Willis was known mostly because of his comedy side. Please continue with the series, also I strongly recommend lethal weapon series as well. I love how immersed in the movie you were, keep it coming, lady
Good Christmas or holiday movies you might enjoy reacting to if you haven’t seen them are “Scrooged” a comical and one many adaptations of the classic Christmas movie “A Christmas Carol”, “Planes Trains And Automobiles”, A Christmas Story, “Home Alone” which I think you mentioned, “Home Alone 2”, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”, and Elf. These movie mentioned are now among the top Holiday/ Christmas movies having become as popular if not more popular than many animated Christmas movies that came before them and a couple of movies from the 1940s, “It’s A Wonderful Life and “Miracle On 34th Street”.
Christmas music, White Christmas (bearer bonds falling instead of snow, but it IS "white"), Christmas miracles, including the reunion of the main character and his wife, and even the thieve's miracle of cracking the safe, Christmas party, Christmas decorations, happened i. The Christmas season, all 9f this makes it a Christmas movie!
Most people won't notice this, but when McClane offers Gruber a cigarette, Gruber holds it like a European as John lights it--Americans just don't cup it like that. I think that's the reason McClane offered it.
"Die Hard" has just enough Christmas in it and has been around long enough to have become a Christmas movie. That said, I have always enjoyed "It's a 'Wonderful Life", "A Christmas Carol" (1951, Alistair Sim), and "Miracle on 34th Street" (Maureen Ohara). Don't be afraid to watch them in their original black and white form. To me this adds to the depth of these movies.
Great reaction! Can you watch Willow next? For some reason, growing up, we watched Willow around Christmas... however, it has nothing to do with Christmas :)
This is one of my favorite action movie of all time. Glad you had watch it. You might also recognized Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) from the Harry Potter movies and others. Sadly, Rickman had past away a few years ago.
It takes place in Christmas time, has a Christmas party, has Christmas music. Just because it has action and violence doesn't mean it's not a Christmas movie.
Why would you say that this movie is a Christmas one ?
Because it happened during Christmas hahahahaha
because he ask santa for a machine gun and received one
I wouldn't. The only thing Christmassy about this movie is the time of the year.
Why would you say it's NOT a Christmas movie? 1. Takes place at Christmas time, 2. Has Christmas music, 3. Has family reunited for the holiday, 4. Has a love story element.
So there.

The basic narrative situation of Die Hard is a man traveling long-distance to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged wife and their children.
It's set at an office party on Christmas Eve
The chief villain Hans Gruber explicitly invokes the Christmas spirit: “It’s Christmas, Theo, it’s a time for miracles.”
As the vault door opens and the crescendoing chords of "Ode to Joy" boom over the soundtrack, Theo has the expression of a kid coming downstairs to see piles and piles of presents. "Merry Christmas," he whispers in awe. Merry Christmas, indeed
"Die Hard" is chock full of Christmas songs.
Love, sacrifice, family, friendship, good conquering evil, and reconciliation
His wife is called Holly
Hans is the Grinch
Argyle (as in socks) hangs out (like a stocking)
There is an invocation of Jesus Christ, Mary, & Joseph
Another big recurring theme of Christmas movies is a lack of faith and at first no one believes. Even John begins to lose hope but perseveres to the end
"Season's Greetings" packing tape inspiration used to tape hand gun to John McClane's back
Santa Claus makes an appearance Ho-Ho-Ho (even if it's in the form of a dead terrorist).
See, "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie!
😉🎄🎅🦌✨
They arent terrorists, they are thieves.
"Shut up..." 😂
You are so awesome.
I love your sense of humour and your "one liner" comments are so funny.
PS...
It's definately a Christmas Movie... 😀
it's a christmas movie because he's going out to l.a. to visit his kids for christmas , his wife holly her boss and all of the other employees are at a christmas party , characters are singing christmas songs and people are wishing other people a merry christmas
I watched die hard and bad Santa. I watch one or the other every year for over 15 years. Great reaction.
My Christmas Movie has to be " Bad Santa " as i cannot stop laughing all the way through it .
Oh my. You are so naturally beautiful 😻
Merry Christmas.
I love Die Hard . One of my all time favorite action/xmas movies
It's a wonderful life is the best Christmas movie, and this is a Christmas movie
47:20 "The Christmas tree is like, 'I had ENOUGH!".. "
ROFL!! You're killing me! 🤣
The Christmas movies that accompanied my childhood (watched over and over again) are "Trading Places" (1983) and "Scrooged" (1988), both very funny and with excellent actors.
Scrooged!
It’s been a few years since I watched “Scrooged”. I’ll have to squeeze it into my schedule this week.
Whait a minute..you dont think Die Hard is a Christmas movie ..but you acttually like ..Trading Places ..with Dan Ackroyd in blackface...lol
If I knew you were a fligth attendant I would have travelled every week lol.
Great reaction as always!
41:12 lol "his knees are weak, moms spaghetti"
This movie has a saying, that there's no christmas until you see a German falling from a tower! 🤣
It's a Christmas movie because it takes place during a Christmas party ;-) Bad Santa is another really fun Christmas movie!
For me: A Christmas Carol 1951, I grew up watching it each Christmas.
What is the traditional Christmas movie? A Christmas Story of course. What other movie gets a full 24 hours of airplay in the USA during Christmas? It's a must watch
It's not xmas until Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi Tower.
Glad you enjoyed it! Happy Christmas ;)
In My Humble Opinion these are 3 of the Greatest Christmas Movies of All Time ( It's A Wonderful Life ) ( Miracle on 34 The Street ) ( The Bishops Wife ) that were the embodiment of the best of Humanity. !!! Still this is my opinion. Happy Holidays 🌲🌲🌲😁🌞🌞🌞 From the Sunshine State of Florida the USA
Like button Illuminated.
LOL! Good one, Bisscute! It was fun rewatching this one with you. 😆
This movie is rated 'R', it's definitely NOT for the whole family
@@JohnnyXoz It for sure is for the whole family. It's just some blood and violence.
@@Nekotaku_TV lol it literally uses curse words like motherF**
@@jog.antani So? You must be American. In Sweden for example it's normal to swear, for kids too.
@@Nekotaku_TV not a nice thing to normalise. They would also know the sexual meanings at such an early age. Their innocence is lost
I am going to start calling you John McClain cause that was one of the best Die Hard reviews I have seen. Glad you enjoyed the movie.
I enjoyed your reaction. If you would like more traditional Xmas movies, try the 1947 (The Bishop`s Wife) & the 1940 (The Shop Around The Corner). :)
Home Alone came 2 years later,if anything that’s a PG version of Die Hard not the other way around
I mean it's even more annoying than redditors repeating the same comments in every thread over and over and over
@@GroovingPict your cognitive dissonance is astounding
@@GroovingPict Nah, it's been scientifically proven that they are both christmas movies.
@@GroovingPict Home Alone is definitely a Christmas movie that revolves around and about Christmas and how it affects the McAllister family and led to certain expected/unexpected events.
When I grew up "the great escape " was on ever Christmas, still don't know why lol
You should check out "Alita -Battle Angel" there is a resemblance
In a figurative sense, the film is closer to Christmas reality than most standard Christmas films. Parents in particular are allowed to feel like John MccLane when the kids really crank it up and let out all kinds of feelings. From joy to arguments and screams, everything is there. It's a nice metaphor for christmas. 🎅
THIS IS THE MOST BADASS CHRISTMAS MOVIE OF ALL TIME
Very good Christmas movie but Lethal weapon is better
@@TheDarkhorse386 Lethal Weapon is my number 2 but respect
Dont forget Gremlins. Makes a nice trifecta to watch on Christmas Eve
The 'Christmas' theme in this is literally maybe 2 minutes of 2hour plus movie. It's NOT a CHRISTMAS MOVIE
@@JohnnyXoz lol 😂
More importantly, take Christmas out of it and the movie doesn't even happen. It's not Christmas, John isn't home for the holidays. So there's no one there to save everyone, but that's okay because........ It's not Christmas, so everyone isn't staying at the office late for the big Christmas party so Hans and his gang don't even bother showing up. So take everything Christmas out of the movie, and it's not even an action movie.
and "santa" said HO HO HO ! after he aquired a machinegun.....
Of course it is a Christmas movie and it even has a Christmas Miracle in it like Hans says " It's Christmas, Theo. It's the time of miracles. You asked for miracles, Theo, I give you the F.B.I."
What's your name? Agent: I'm uh... you're like "USELESS?" ... and you weren't wrong lol
If I'm trapped in an office building at Christmas. I want Bisscute on my side. :) Merry Christmas.
This is one of my favourite Christmas movies, along with Scrooged and Elf.
I think it's funny that in Bisscute's world, no one ever washes their feet.
Why Die Hard is a Christmas movie:
- John McClane is going to see his wife for Christmas at a Christmas party being held by the company she works for. (IE this meeting wouldn't happen any other time of year.)
- The rap Arguile is listening to in the limo is about Santa Claus "This IS Christmas music!"
- The orchestra at the Christmas party is playing Ode to joe.
- There's a huge Christmas tree
- The guy that kisses John says "Merry Christmas."
- Holly makes references to Rudolph, Frosty, and Scrooge.
- Holly says to her daughter "We'll see what mommy and Santa can do, okay?"
- Hans makes a reference to it being the "time of miracles" and tells Theo to be of "good cheer."
- When Al is picking up Twinkies "for the wife." He's singing "Let it snow."
- "Now I have a Machine gun - Ho. Ho. Ho." Would not work without it being Christmas.
- Ode to Joy plays when the terrorists open the vault door and Theo says "Merry Christmas!"
- The tape John uses to strap his pistol to his back is Christmas wrapping tape.
Yeah had a feeling it was because of that. Thanks for watching
I'm gonna watch this with you again on Christmas morning ,what a day 💕 you me and die hard what a Christmas morning.
As a kid, my Christmas movies were Rudolf, The Grinch, Little Drummer Boy and Frosty
I could say so much, but ill just leave it with GO ROMANIA!bissCUTE that was your best reaction yet.I was watching your face the entire time.
Well said. Please allow me to add one other older b&w Christmas movie: "We're No Angels." Bogart, Ustinov, & Aldo Ray.
The actor who played Theo the computer expert (Clarence Gilyard, Jr.), died unexpectedly on November 28th this year. He was just 66 years old.
If "Christmas" isn't about importance of family to you, then it's about stopping greedy ones
It takes place in Christmas time, has a Christmas party, has Christmas music. Just because it has action and violence doesn't mean it's not a Christmas movie.
Great reaction, you are hilarious and cold-blooded 😆
