This brought me back to playing Halo 2 on the OG Xbox on a weekend with my friends. We shared pizza and mtn dew, talked trash and stayed up until 2 am playing. Thank you for bringing me those memories back.
Halo 2 on Xbox live was an experience unlike any other. Clans, matchmaking set up, rankings, Bungie online stats, pre- and post-lobby talk, no mic censorship, I could go on and on. It would be incredible to be able to play it that way again! I hope it can be added to the Insignia catalogue.
As someone who has worked on games, it isn't passion that's lacking. We have plenty of passion. It's unrealistic time restrictions, no creative control, micromanagement etc. People who have no knowledge of how to create a game controlling things they shouldn't be.
Great video my dude! Outside of the PS3 online ecosystem, the Original Xbox Insignia live online experience has been some of my favourite gaming multiplayer experiences. The team at Insignia have been nothing short of spectacular, and the helpful community to get setup is topnotch.
Thank you dude! Insigina really nailed the simplicity and ease of use. No dns swaps, no major modifications or custom game files. Just your console and an network connection.
My dad bought the OG Xbox in early 2002 and signed me up for Xbox live in December of 2002. The Xbox live network was something out of this world back in the day. Game's like Counter strike, Unreal Championship, Splinter Cell, and Soldier of Fortune 2 were truly an amazing experience. Going into the 360 era, the experience only god better, with COD 2 MP, Halo 3, the original dashboard, gamescores etc. It really felt like Microsoft could do no wrong. Because of this, I had one of the oldest xbox live accounts until the Xbox One (next gen) console. Truly amazing times especially for a kid like myself.
Hello my friend. How are you? I have a project to capture gameplay from all 998 og xbox game library. Could you check out the channel? We already have more than 250 games with recorded videos. My first memory of online gaming was my dad and I getting our asses kicked on mech assault, I was like 6 and he had only ever played mech warrior on PC back in the day lol. God that game was hard.
I didn't realize America's Army was on the OG Xbox. That was probably the fps I spent the most amount of time on reaching a honor level of 85. I played that game religiously for 3+ years and that was really my bread and butter into multiplayer after first playing RTCW with my 56k modem. I knew all of the m203 shots on the bridge map and Mountain Pass and Insurgent camp were my best maps. The only online game I ever played on the original dreamcast was Phantasy Star Online and I got the Xbox in 2004 for Halo 2 and Shenmue 2. Its funny, but in the mid 90s my friends and I would play the original Red Alert online by calling each others phone lines in the game and connecting that way. It would drive our parents crazy because it would take away the phone line from receiving calls, but the fact that we figured out how to do it at 10 years old was pretty cool given it was a hard set up. This after all was in 97 and the internet for me only began in 96. I didn't have cable internet until 2002 so it was a rough first couple of years of online gaming.

"In today's world, we can technically emulate the original Xbox..." Not without the source code. Xbox emulation has *only* *just* begun to become serviceable. Hats off to those involved in its continued progress, and hats off to the Insignia team.
I still have this one. Never played online. But "Black" and Halo 1&2 are still awesome games. Played Burnout Paradise with an HD Adapter on a 4K last year. Gfx badly outdated though xD
Because of shutdown servers today, I really appreciate the system link feature that still runs well on the OG Xbox and the 360. I wish this was continued, for I still have teens at lunch playing Halo 3 in my school.
Regarding your Xbox not powering up anymore, check the solder connections on the power supply. Especially by the power connector. Those connections in particular break very easily, and can be simply resoldered/heated up to reflow the two broken connections and may fix the issue. The issue might not be that and some more complex fault, but it's a common one, especially early revisions like your 1.0 revision shown near the end of the vid. Back to the main part of the discussion, Insignia is very fun. I was young when I used OG Xbox Live, and really only used it for a short time, but it's etched in my memory which made me very glad to get on Insignia and see the OG Xbox Live menu, seeing all the features working. Chatting with people has been awesome, there's a real nice community vibe to it all.
Really neat video. What's especially impressive with PSO is how you can actually join games with GameCube players. Meaning there is straight up a game in 2024 with crossplay between GC, Xbox and even a PC using emulation. Btw you mentioned wanting something similar for the Wii, Wiimmfi, so thankfully that's been perserved and those games can still be played online.
The camera controls in PSO are actually really snappy when you get used to it. It's really easy to quickly move your stick to change the camera direction, and then quickly move it back to continue moving.
I remember as a kid watching the area 51 trailer on my halo disc about a thousand times before never playing it until about 2013 on the pc that game is awesome
Another great video, this is on my to do list but my time is limited and I can't play everything lol As for phantasy star online it still gets regular players on dreamcast (and gamecube) ,speaking of which you could look into the dreamcast online scene for another video

Plus my Xbox is mod chipped with 50 games pre installed which I don't own on disc so I don't wanna have to buy another console if it comes to it. Good video btw, had no clue this existed, thanks for enlightening me!
I'm pretty sure you can buy another disc drive and swap it out. Though make sure you double check it's not specific to the motherboard. Some consoles are like that. I just play most Xbox games I have on my Xbox 360. I have the OG White 360 that has backwards compatibility. No idea how it's old HDD that clips onto the side/top of the console is still going 17 years later.

I loved Rainbow six V I think 1 or 2 I don't remember but you could down patch it then go into a level and bug it out where you can get endless xp and be max level then end game repatch and go online and everything would be unlocked. I use to have people pay me $5-$10 xbox cards to do it for them.

One thing I don't think you mentioned about PSO specifically is that it isn't JUST Xbox players you can play with, you can also play with people playing the Gamecube version via crossplay which is more often than not, what everyone usually plays (mainly bc its more easy for folks to get their hands on a modded wii and play that way but whatever)
@DropinNukes That's a great one to! Premiere never misses when it comes to beats. Above the clouds, Make em Pay, What I'm here 4 are some of my favorites on it. Inspecta deck was a dope feature to.
crazy part about CS for xbox, is there are custom versions of CS for xbox that have custom maps....and i have them... but the Insignia team has advised its probly not a good idea to use them online... to keep the playing field fair n simple...but we can still use Xlink to try these maps out... along with custom halo 2 maps... :P

Inverted was a popular style during this time. I hated it.
I had that starting kit and crimson sky’s the dog fighting in the game was epic
More people need to get an original xbox and grow insignia live
I hope this video inspires more people to Insignia! Such a great time capsule
I remember playing early (can’t remember if insignia or xbonline). Mind you, this was before master chief collection, I was playing halo 1 over Xbox live. This was fucking amazing to me because this game never had Xbox live support, only split screen and LAN
Love the Simpsons hit and run background music at one stage ;)
It fits like a glove 😅
I loved Rainbow six V I think 1 or 2 I don't remember but you could down patch it then go into a level and bug it out where you can get endless xp and be max level then end game repatch and go online and everything would be unlocked. I use to have people pay me $5-$10 xbox cards to do it for them.
Hello my friend. How are you?
I have a project to capture gameplay from all 998 og xbox game library.
Could you check out the channel? We already have more than 250 games with recorded videos.
It would be great to receive your feedback, and maybe, if you like the channel, have you as a subscriber.
Thank you very much.
Have a nice day : )
I wish they brought CS2 to xbox and actually had comp on there
Do a video on revived Xbox 360 games, there’s a bunch popping up nowadays
I was not aware of that so thank you for that! I'll definitely investigate into that.
Counter strike had a check corner feature. I think you click n hold the stick in and it triples your sens.
whacked is like a fever dream at this point lol
That Gangstarr album in your profile picture is great 👍 RIP Guru
@@MAWK3 one of my fav albums of all time honestly
@@MAWK3 every song is a certified banger, especially JFK 2 LAX
@DropinNukes That's a great one to! Premiere never misses when it comes to beats.
Above the clouds, Make em Pay, What I'm here 4 are some of my favorites on it. Inspecta deck was a dope feature to.
I bout flipped hearing you call Rainbow six VEGAS VAAAA GUS
It must be a Canadian way of pronouncing it or something 😅
I miss when gaming prioritized rich single player/splitscreen stories vs the basic live service model we have now.
crazy part about CS for xbox, is there are custom versions of CS for xbox that have custom maps....and i have them... but the Insignia team has advised its probly not a good idea to use them online... to keep the playing field fair n simple...but we can still use Xlink to try these maps out... along with custom halo 2 maps... :P
Remember local halo parties!!!!!
That and 007 Nightfire stole my childhood 😅
I would love to be able to get some of the DLC cars from Project Gotham 2.
very good video!
Thank you very much!
Never got to play on og xbox live but I did play allot of Counter Strike on the OG Xbox against bots lol.
