I'm 53,and I looove BoneyM, they were the band that was a little bit too naughty for a 7yo, but I loved it and had no clue about lyrics so it was just fine 😅😅😅. Hugs from Sweden.
Boney M was a West German band that was even honored by the English Queen Elizabeth II. The guy is just a dancer, the producer sang. Please listen to their biggest hit "By the Rivers of Babylon". Greetings from Germany. You are very likeable.
This guy had Hammer pants before there were even Hammer pants. The guy had so much energy I was exhausted just watching the guy . Top hit in the whole world back in 1979 except the US that is . A classic now.
Rasputin was a Russian mystic. The Russian Tsarina believed he was a healer who could heal her son who suffered from hemophilia. A group of nobles lured him and eventually managed to kill him. The ladies are from Germany.
Boney M was very popular in the 70s, they are from Jamaica, and that song was about Rasputin a mysterious monk that won the favor of the Russian czar wife, because he could heal one of her sons. He had many lovers, and was assassinated by jealousy and envy from the courtesans and favorites of the Czar.
The band as a whole is called Boney M and come from Germany though the performers are ethnically Caribbean. The song's about a Russian historical figure named Rasputin who had a reputation for being depraved but gained influence over the Russian royal family due to his supposed mystical power to heal the crown prince who was a haemophiliac. Jealous nobles decided to end him but only succeeded by poisoning, shooting and drowning him adding to the belief that he really must have had supernatural abilities.
@@Isa_barchetta another Frank Farian band! But it was known that the Boney M guy was lip synching and they tried to keep it secret about Milli Vinilli.
The first time I heard this was in the 1990s. I loved it so much I got one of those really short cassette tapes and put Rasputin on both sides and just played it on repeat for an entire summer! I was in the best mood all the time!
The “singer” is lip syncing. He’s actually a DJ from some Caribbean island who was picked because he’d keep the ladies entertained. The ladies are actually singing. It’s a great song, you should check out their Christmas album. It’s a holiday classic!!!
Been listening to Boney M Greatest Hits and Boney M Christmas album since about age 4, and I'm 49. I thoroughly recommend listening to both albums. With Xmas coming up you could do a couple of their Xmas tunes.
Marys boy child is still played in shopping centres every christmas. The dude in the video is there because he can dance. He is not the singer. If i remember correctly it was two German guys that did the song.Rasputin was a real guy in Russia that was a monk or something. He had an affair with the Tsarin of Russia and apparently a lot of other women. He became so influential that a few guys decided to kill him. They tried to make him drunk but he could hold his booze and later they just shot him multiple times. That is what i remember about the movie about him called Rasputin.
German producer Frank Farian wanted to create a disco group in 1974 and recruited 4 members from the Caribbean - 3 women and 1 man, to become a sensation... However, only 2 women from Jamaica - Marcia Barrett and Liz Mitchell, sang on Boney M records (the rest were session singers and musicians) while Maizie Williams from Monserrat was not utilized, except for her image... Bobby Farrell (from Aruba) was the male member but was not a singer, so he would lip sync to pre-recorded vocals that producer Frank Farian recorded of himself through a distortion. Bobby Farrell was used for his dancing skills to entertain the ladies. Boney M released their debut album 'Take the heat off me' in 1976... and scored an original hit 'Daddy Cool'... as well as covers of 'Sunny' (by Bobby Hebb) and 'No woman no cry' (by Bob Marley) 2nd album 'Love for sale' was controversial for its cover (Bobby Farrell w/ 3 women in chains) but it had a major hit in 1977 - 'Ma Baker'... as well as the hits - 'Belfast'... and 'Plantation boy'... Boney M peaked commercially in 1978 w/ their 3rd album 'Nightflight to Venus' (which was their only record to chart in the US, even though they were a sensation worldwide)... the single 'Rasputin' (about the Russian 'holy man' Gregori Rasputin, who was killed in 1916) as well as hits like - 'Rivers of Babylon' ... 'Painter man'... 4th album 'Oceans of fantasy' was another hit record w/ the singles 'Gotta go home' ... 'El Lute'... as well as scoring a non-album hit "Hooray! Hooray! It's a holi-holiday" ... However, it would be Boney M's last hit record as the disco era came to an end by 1980. Boney M released 'Boonoonoonoos' in 1981, their 6th album but did not promote it as Bobby Farrell was fired and the group's future was uncertain... Reggie Tsiboe was hired as the male member of Boney M and they released 'Ten Thousand Lightyears' in 1984... however, the futuristic album was a commercial disappointment. Boney M rehired Bobby Farrell for their final album 'Eye dance' in 1985 but no one cared... Boney M disbanded and producer Frank Farian moved on to other projects - he was responsible for recording the Milli Vanilli album and fell into disrepute after the 2 Caribbean models he hired to pose as the pop duo did not sing on the record. Bobby Farrell passed away in 2010 at age 61.

Songs like this that give a history lesson, are some of my favorites.

It is Bobbie, and yes, he is now gone. However, the girls were not backing singers - they ARE the band. Check out Ma Baker.

They are not from Jamaica; they are from the Netherlands with a German producer.
I love this song ❤❤❤❤. Glad you got to hear it
Very popular in the UK I remember he had two number one's in the UK with brown girl in the rain and Mary's boy child
You should listen to Brown girl in the ring or By the Rivers of Babylon by them ❤

Boney M is so much fun. The guy is not actually singing. Frank Farian, a record producer, put the band together and did the vocals. I still love them.
Yeah and they killed milli vanilly for the same thing...

proud to say that I met him in person many years ago in Italy behind the scenes of a TV show! RIP M
My parents' still have that album on 45... in the package. in pristine condition!! hahahaha.
He was the human 8-ball

OH MYLANTA!!! Xmas isn't Xmas without Bony M Xmas album getting played at least once a week.
PS - The Moment when Krizz realizes the end of the song was LITERALLY about how he was killed in real life and just went stone faced ... Priceless!!!

I remember Boney M . They have somone good songs
Bro. If you do a podcast I think it would do really well.
As much as I love this song I think you would truly get a kick out of Aurora's cover of it, there's a great live version of it here on the youtubes!
Check out Copacabana, a live by Barry Manilow - that’s one joyful song you want to dance to, which is also about death
Please react to pass the dutchie by the musical youth
First
bobby farrell looked good but all he did was lip-sync. the women were the real strength in the group. it was disco from 1978.
Boney M is crazy, love that guys stuff.
