According to Wikipedia the initial investment was 4 million USD, and running cost to stage the show in 68 cities was 25 million USD. In total 5.5 million people attended the shows, averaging 45.000 per night. (They played several concerts at multiple venues, e.g. three in Rotterdam, Oakland and Montreal, 14 in London). They had three stages (55 m wide, 40m high) leapfrogging each other. Used 53 articulated trucks to move the 700 tons of steel for the stage. At the time it was the highest grossing rock music tour in history. The show also featured airships, and if allowed by local regulations airplanes flying over the stadium just before the start. I saw them several times in 1994, 1988 and 1989. Anything after those shows has been, well, overshadowed by it.
Dark Side of the Moon was released a couple months before I graduated from high school in 1973. I discovered it the next year and have many fond memories and smokey nights listening to its strange and intriguing sounds.
@@MoMoMyPup10 Your not the only late bloomer,or budder. I was born in 75 and never even saw or smoked bud till I was nineteen. Started really listening to Pink Floyd in the mid nineties.
You should watch the entire PULSE concert sometime!! Even if you do it on your own but we would love to see your reaction to it of course!! There are no misses in this show at all. Pink Floyd is just on a different level 🎸🔥🎼 I would suggest “Sorrow” as your next song from this show.
Pink Floyd is not a band, Pink Floyd is an experience!! I love Dark Side Of The Moon but The Wall is the ultimate for me. I bought it when it came out and now, as a 59 year old grandmother, it's the first thing on my playlist. The entire album, start to finish the way it needs to be heard is pure excellence.
When I was in high school this was a song to get high too. Now at 65 it makes me tear up to know my days are numbered and life went by sooo fast......... How did they write this at such a young age!
The production scale on this live performance is class triple AAA all the way. In 95 when PULSE was released, David, Nick and Rick had already been playing together for over 40 years! That in itself accounts for much of the magnificence in their live shows. Professional musicians with countless hours of practice and performances together. They brought all this with them when they walked on stage. The quality and confidence always there. The result was 100% perfection in what they accomplished.
I saw them about three years before that in Manheim, West Germany. It was the same stage setup and just about the same sound. I feel very lucky to have seen them.
Financing for this came in part from the sale of a very rare race car. Don’t know if a production like that could be pulled off/financed today. But at least we had Pulse and it was glorious.
There is no comparing "Pulse" to ANY other tour in history...some have been more successful monetarily, but nothing comes close to the spectacle and overall emotional experience they provided. In order to be as close as possible to the complexity of their studio work, they brought additional "A" class musicians along to replicate the overdubs (instead of using recordings) - added were: guitars - Tim Renwick, percussion - Gary Wallis, and keyboards - John Carin. The background vocalists: Durga McBroom, Sam Brown, and Claudia Fontaine (RIP). Roger Waters' replacement on bass - Guy Pratt - is phenomenal. My recommendations for follow-up Pulse tracks: "Sorrow: ua-cam.com/video/JdPTec5ADFE/v-deo.html "One Of These Days: ua-cam.com/video/z-11zoVnHSQ/v-deo.html *Keep Talking": ua-cam.com/video/AVzM6cS1iME/v-deo.html
Love this song. It's so true. There's another song called Time. It's by the Allen Parsons Project. A couple other songs by Allen Parsons Project are Eye in the sky and Don't answer me. Both highly recommended 👍
You really can't go wrong with these Pulse performances. My only suggestion is that when it comes to Great Gig in the Sky, find the 1987 version from the Palace at Versailles (link below) . It was a finer group of background singers: Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom and Kathleen Taylor. They killed it. Outdoors under the fireworks. ua-cam.com/video/lytuBVTiHHA/v-deo.html
Do ECHOES (both parts, 1 & 2), from Pink Floyd Live In Pompeii. They put on a concert for nobody but the cameras, in the ancient ruins of a giant Greek amphitheater. Filmed around the recording of the Dark Side Of The Moon album, on the cusp of superstardom - It is tremendous!
I've looked and looked for the video projector footage of this song played in New Orleans in '94 but have never found the exact footage. Does anyone have it?
Believe it or not, in an interview David Gilmour talks about the budget for that tour he said after everyone was paid they did just slightly better than breaking even And he said that’s all right, I donated my proceeds anyway.
I feel like this version is a little rushed for my taste, but I love the song and other Pulse concert videos. Run Like Hell is a little less exciting imo because the explosions are not a worthy substitute for the drums or whatever it is that gives it bounce and excitement.
It's just so hard for me to watch h without RW. It's my short comings I agree but the original members go it close to original as possible. Or at least there aloud to change it It's there's! I'm just weird like that.
The ROLLING 👅 STONES ,have as well Amaizing Big Band the ben the same musicans whit the Stones for many decades, check the Rolling Stones (LIVE)music video 🔥ROCK OFF🔥🎼🎩🎸🎶🎶🎶☮️✌️
I hate the remastered versions of this show. The original showed a lot more of the actual show screens and light show. The remastered just concentrated on the players. You miss so much that way.
The pulse concert is the best concert ever recorded!!! Period!!!!!
AGREE!!!
"Wish you were here", "Shine on you crazy diamond 💎 "

From the Pulse Concert, SORROW and RUN LIKE HELL are both excellent. Every song from Pulse is excellent.
The older I get, the more this song tears me up. And I bought this "Dark Side of the Moon" album in 1973. To me, it's their best album.
I'm with ya, brother...
Pink Floyd... transcends... TIME
This entire show is MAGIC Biz. From start to finish. You'll live it.

Puff puff pass 🤪 Great music to burn to.
Born in 62, took me til the early 80's to find those smokey Floyd nights 😊

saw pink floyd in '88, the delicate sound of thunder tour...epic...sensory overload
I’ve been to so many concerts and I have to say Pink Floyd gives you every pennies worth and more . Best band ever !
The entire Pulse concert is amazing. Hope you can watch it all. R.I.P. Rick Wright (orig. keyboardist for PF).
I saw them on their Momentary Lapse of Reason tour in 1987. The best concert I have ever been to in my life.
Great show. Wasn't there one before this - Delicate Sound of Thunder?
Yes, in 1988…another great show!
@@lynnhoffmann247 That's the one. I actually liked it better than Pulse. The concert footage was also outstanding. I bought the VHS back in the day.
@@TrianglesAndCircles VHS tapes…I remember those! 😂. I liked that concert, too, but am partial to this one since I was there. Fantastic show. 💥
First time I saw Pink Floyd was The Dark Side of the Moon tour at Tampa Stadium. They didn’t have the laser show like later years. What a concert!
one of a kind band, great music, (one slip) is my favorite by them, classic.🎤🎸🥁🎷🎹

Pulse was released on the 29th of May 1995 , not 2006 .
@danjames5552
Thank you. I'm aware of that but have no clue why I stated 2006.
Appreciate the correction.
BOSS, AGAIN, MY 1ST IS ALWAYS THE ORIGINAL CUT ... ITS THE CREATION THAT SPAWNS THE LIVE SHOWS .. ITS THE SOUL!

Money from the pulse show is great. Wish you were here also is very good! Pulse show 1994
Pink Floyd "Echoes" Live at Pompeii 1972

This song is a Lyrical Gut-Punch !🤘

If you want more of the back up singers then you Must react to Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky - from the Pulse Concert.
They made their money on this one
