On the original album, the vocals were sung by Claire Torry, someone local they brought in and paid 30 pounds and is an interesting story. Probably the biggest gig of her life and she didn't even know it at the time.
This song IS a vibe...it is a song without words. At the beginning there is a recording of a man saying he is not afraid of death.....Why should he be afraid? It happens to everyone...Then you have three stellar singers giving an emotional rendition of the stages of dying......showing fear, anger, grief ....and in the end, acceptance. Brilliant, challenging, and sometimes uncomfortable. Kudos to those singers.
Album version is sung by one woman Clare Tory but other than that its the same. Definitely hits harder if you listen to the whole album start to finish!
My father took me to this concert at the age of 12, Earl's Court, London, and I shall never forget what I witnessed that night. He told me that we weren't going to listen to a concert, we were going to have an experience. Boy, the old fart wasn't wrong. What a lucky boy I was, although I didn't understand why there were all these old people about the place. I was raised on Floyd, Cream, John Mayal, Queen, and Zeppelin, but Pink Floyd stuck with me the most. At that age, I was in awe of the music and lacked the emotional intelligence to really appreciate their art but instinctively knew that there was something more to it, and every time I return to albums such as DSoTM and Wish You Were Here they take on new meaning. Granted, the studio versions are considered to be the ultimate listening experience but the live experience melted my prepubescent brain to mush. I dread to think what the lighting budget was. Although we have our differences these days, I will always be grateful to my father for sharing and introducing me to the music he loves so much. By the way, I encourage you to listen to Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts I-V and parts VI-IX, another journey and story that will touch your soul and give you the chills, assuming that you haven't already. Thanks for sharing with us (thumbs up from me) and enjoy the journey. Much love.
This is good and interesting visually, but you really need to hear the studio version of this. In fact for most songs off of this album, do the studio versions first. You need to hear the original production. It actually makes you appreciate the live versions more when you see how well they're able to riplicate the amazing studio quality. This should be applied for all of their songs.
You do not know what you are missing. The album version with Clare Tory on Dark Side of the Moon is the version that will get you feeling something. This is good but it only took ONE Clare to do that vocal. She is incredible and she makes you feel things I don't feel in this version. You will cry.
When experiencing a Pink Floyd song for the first time, ALWAYS listen to the album version first. Take it from a PF fan since the 70s, album first. This song followed "TIME" on the album, and the two are connected and should be experienced together for best appreciation. "THE WALL" is a story told through a series of songs, so that is definitely one you'll have a greater experience with if you listen to the full album. Yes, they did make a film for the album, but again, ALBUM FIRST! Trust me, my friend, I'm steering you right. Welcome to the fan club! ;)
If you're gonna do a whole PF album, it's best to cut it up into 2 and 3 song segments to avoid the copyright hassle. For example on the Dark Side of the Moon album: the first 3 songs, Speak to Me, Breathe (in the air), and On the Run in the first segment...Time and Great Gig in the Sky for the second...Money and Us and Them for the 3rd and finish it out with the last 3 songs Any Colour You Like, Brain Damage and Eclipse.
Ok, my first reaction was "you should do the studio version"... But then I realized that it's Ok, because now you can listen to the studio version of "Time/Great Gig in the Sky" together... which is the best way. These girls did a great job on this... but now just imagine it done even better, and all by one person... It is Epic!
Keep reacting to whole albums please, that's way l subscribed, especially Pink Floyd, their albums are a must, you have to listen to them from beginning to end to get the full experience (thrill!!!!)🤟😜
Yes, 👏🏼 ♥️🔥🎤🎶This song is about after you die, and what you think about before you die. The great gig in the sky means heaven, and how even when you die, you still have music to play (hence the great GIG in the sky).
Yes listen to the whole album it doesn’t make a difference and also listen to the whole animals album that is fantastic my favorite part of the animals album is the dogs because it’s real life is really what happens in life in my 76 years believe me I seen it Liz the queen
On your own no UA-cam, headphone on the whole album. The Dark Side Of The Moon. The way it was in the old days. Side 1, "Speek To Me/Breathe", "On The Run", "Time:, "The Great Gig In The Sky", then take a two minute, as if you were turning the vinyl album over. Collect your thoughts and move on to other side Side 2, "Money", "Us And Them", "Ant Colour You Like", "Brain Damage", "Eclipse",
Anything from Pink Floyd I’ve written you before birth and I told you I was 76 but I’ve been to many many Pink Floyd concerts had just Pink Floyd Lynyrd Skynyrd the whole of letting Led Zeppelin Janice Joplin Jimi Hendrix Stevie Ray Vaughan I’ve seen a lot of my years but I love Pink Floyd they put on a fantastic shell live the queen Liz the queen

I personally like this performance best, and the original studio version next. It's a matter of taste, it is not the same with different vocalists. The whole album is is a nice experience, crank it up and turn down the lights. It definitely flows.
Dark Side of the Moon is a rock opera, a concept that became popular in this period. The songs on the album flow together with no real break except between songs on side 1 and side 2. To set the stage for this rock opera, the first song on side 1 contains snippets of songs that follow. The song preceding Great Gig is Time. Best way to listen to either gem is play them back to back as the album intends them to be played. Great Gig is last song on side 1 so there is a natural break at end of Great Gig as songs continue on side 2. This live version is good, but magic was made when Claire Tory entered the recording studio and improvised the vocals on Great Gig IN ONE TAKE. I suggest you wait to hear the album version of Great Gig when you decide to cover the entire album. Every song is great but my favorites from the album are Great Gig, Time, and Money.
You should listen to the original studio in its entirety on hi fi stereo or with headphones. The live show though good is a different musical experience! Thanks for sharing your love of good music! 🙏
Waking up here this morning and the first thought in my head is that you need to do this song with Clare Torrey. BiZ-you will feel it in your heart mind and soul. This is going to bug me now so I need you to do it with Claire. ASAP
I've seen Pink Floyd in 1987,1994,Roger Waters(of Pink Floyd) in 1999,2000,2014.. This is the Great Gig In The Sky off Dark Side of the Moon album,it original here as on album, done the same way You should listen to Dark Side of the Moon album start to finish, its a story Just keep in mind,"There is no dark side of the moon,in fact,it is all dark"
Obviously the studio version is a piece of music history… But in this version, I fell in love with Samantha Brown when I saw this, and she never said a word! That’s my kind of girl😂
Yes. Yes. Yes. The Wall, the movie. And Dark Side of the Moon as an album. Please. When you get to the end of Dark Side of the Moon, there's a little song called Eclipse. The lyrics are very rich. IMO, the moon is the ego, and the sun is God. I recommend you listen to eclipse with that metaphor in mind.
The song is supposed to represent the stages of grieving and death without words, the studio version was recorded by Clair Torey ( may have spelt her surname wrong) in 2.5 takes after which she put her cardigan on and went home. The live versions are usually taken by the backing singers ( 3 ) such is the quality of everything to do with Pink Floyd. There is no doubt that Clair’s version is a masterpiece. I do however think the live versions is equally good but for different reasons, eg at pulse concert they had to sing for about 1 hr before this track and another 1.5 hrs after this track.
Biding my time - PF. THeres a magnific solo from gilmour. (fewpeople did) Near the end - davi gilmour solo album. THeres a beautiful solo in the last seconds. And maybe the lyrics are for Roger. This album is strange but gold. theres a song called narrow way with 3 parts. THe 3rd is the best but the others are pure psycodelic anyway... im a huge fan of PF and I want to see people reacting to other songs than comfortably numb and time. They are great but everybody does that...
Normally I always prefer live versions over studio versions. But even though these vocalists and the ones at the «Delicate sound of thunder» tour does a great job, Clare Torry’s vocals is out of this world. Fitting for a song about dying. And she did it alone, first take. The piano part was made for a riot scene in a movie, but didn’t make it. Luckily.
If you want something from Pink Floyd even more meaningful try out "When the tigers broke free" which tells the story of Roger Waters loss off his father . It was originally written for the album The Wall but wasn't released until the album " The Final Cut " came out although a version was included in video featuring Bob Geldof ( from the Boomtown Rats ) before that titled The Wall
Hey, Lois! I feel your pain. :) I listened to the original for so many years that I don't think the angels in Heaven could top Clare Torry's performance. I do think that these three ladies gave us a wonderful performance in their own right, though, and I applaud the courage of anyone who has listened to the original and still has the guts to try and follow Ms. Torry. I hope Mr. Biz does check out the original sometime.

My own band's keyboard player also plays in a Pink Floyd tribute band called Darkside. The female vocalist they use is better than these in the video. She does the entire set on her own, including this song.
for dark side of the moon you can do it in 2 reactions, 5 songs each......personally I don't care to much for The Wall....it's too disturbing.....the albums Wish You Were Here or Animals would be better.
Definitely not as good as on the album. This comes right after “Time” which to me is like the transition from this plane to another. But no one plays them together.

Bro, PF album versions are ALWAYS much better than their live stuff. This must be experienced off the "Dark side of the Moon" album not this. You need to experience that whole album a - z. No one can compare to Clare Torrey, the vocalist on the album. I apologize but I will not even watch this video. It's not the whole PF band [no Roger Waters, the founder of the band) and it's not as good as the album.
