I have the TI boost...it's not a distortion pedal, it's a treble booster; used for thick sounding amps that lack high end clarity...it acts as a boost for your amp, for those who are wondering. Hope this helps.
Love the walpurigis, The TI has some great midrange focus, and I figured the sabra would do a bit better up against these contenders. LONG LIVE THE TONY CULT! cheers!
Thanks for sharing, I've got a Sabracadabra and find it amazing, however I've been ultra curious about the Tony Iommi signature Laney Black Country signature boost. The Laney sounds great as well. However by listening to this alone, I'd declare the Signature Boost Black Country pedal to be more for the 'newer' generation Black Sabbath sound, whereas the Caitlinbread pedal seems to be hitting all the right sounds of the classic first 6 Black Sabbath albums era. It's even got a bit of the amp like noise that used to be generated, whereas the Laney pedal seems to be less noisey and cleaner. The Walpurgis was also nice but I wouldn't look at it if your trying to capture that classic Tony Iommi sound, it's got this extra warmth that just doesn't sound quite right.
I would also agree wholeheartedly with this statement lol The Walpurgis is the awesome. I love that old school sound with a bit of extra low end saturation. The Sabra nails the ACTUAL tone on the first 4 albums, through that Laney. The BCC is a great all-rounder. I also like mine. It's easier to vintage up a modern tone, than push a vintage one, sometimes
It's funny that everyone seems to prefer the Walpurgis and TI, but I like the Sabbra Cadabra by far. It has much greater clarity making the other 2 sound very muffled by comparison. I don't think they'd cut thru the mix nearly as well. Granted, my hearing isn't what it used to be!
TI boost and walpurgis FTW. TI Boost has that crisp sound that would be great on a recording to cut through. Walpurgis has that nastiness that sounds legit like Ozzy and Iommi are about to come through your walls. Either one is badass. Wonder what a layered sound of both would be like.
Yeah I think the TI boost is far more legit than the Sabbra Cadabra 'cause I've heard it's too easy to make it sound like shit, where as the TI boost is more geared towards the types of amps that Iommi used, where as the Sabbra Cadabra is more for a clean amp.
I get great Iommi sound, at manageable volume, by running the Laney TI boost (Drive-6, Lo-2, Hi-9, Vol-8) into the Walpurgis turned all the way down, where it just acts like a Laney Supergroup pre-amp. For anyone looking to replicate the sound under $500, I think that's the way to go. It is more expensive, but it is hard to top the TI boost going into the dimed LA30BL, though your neighbors will hate you.
I use the ti boost and the walpurgis for similar results so I can keep the laney clean. Basically three channels available that was. Well two and a boost!
@@TheDistortionPrinciple I see what you're talking about on your last video now. Treating them as different channels is an interesting approach. Did you mess around with the master gain trim pot under the cover? I'm guessing mine was too high when I tried the TI Boost -> Walpurgis -> LA30BL, because running it into the LA30BL even on an amp gain setting of 2 or 3 is getting pretty loud, but going with TI Boost -> Walpurgis -> powered speaker is just right.
From what I've read and heard described about the T.I. Boost pedal is that it gives the best results for Iommi's tone by slamming a cranked hi-gain channel of a 100W tube head on a half or better yet, full stack. So, it's likely to be necessarily loud with the Laney pedal, which doesn't surprise me that proper Iommi tone would require VOLUM!E
This video is excellent for helping one choose a pedal for the full capabilities. The Walpurgis sounds extremely close to the record, while the Sabbra and Laney are great pedals as well. Thank you for a great video. I have subscribed to your channel.
Thank you! I could never find a side by side video so I bought them all to test them myself lol! The sabbra is the only one I sold. Thanks for the subscribe
Walpurgis sounds just like the record! The TI Boost sounds like it would be perfect for cutting through a mix. The Sabbra just doesn’t have the midrange that the other two have and sounds very weak in comparison.
This is exactly my thoughts and conclusions. The ti gives you the options to have neutral mids, boosted low mids or boosted high mids... I am keeping the ti and the walpurgis. I moved the sabbra along for a delay pedal.
I've had the Sabbra since it came out. This is speculation but I think the Walpurgis sounds best playing alone but the Sabbra might cut through better in a mix. I had the Laney and sold it, although I think it might have been good through a cranked amp, its not really a "Sabbath in a box" pedal. I plan on getting a Walpurgis, Nice video
I've got separate videos for each... can't remember if each video had a band mix or not. I included the ti for people to hear it through a supergroup as a kind of baseline. Thanks for watching!
I own the Sabbra Cadabra so I might have a bit of a biased opinion but I think it sounds really close. The Laney pedal sounds really nice too. We should all be thrilled that companies are making pedals that get us really close to the sound of Iommi.
I think the problem with the Sabbra Cadabra is that its so touchy on the knobs, its hard to find that perfect spot and tune it to your specific setup. That being said, i believe it would be better for the people who dont have the crazy pickups and heads because its more customizable.
It's definitely very touching sensitive. I found it ti have a more modern sound with my gear though. I woukd.like to try it again with my laney aor and see how it goes
So amazed by how the Sabbra sounds next to the other 2. I have had my eye on the Sabbra for a while now and this video has totally changed my mind towards the Walpurgis. Boo.
I love all three to be fair, the TI Boost is my favourite, I've had the Sabbra Cadabra twice and sold them both, it's a real struggle to get a good sound out of it on a big amp, I got the Naga Viper in the end, which does the job well. I haven't tried Steve's pedal yet, I'd love to but getting it to the UK, costs a small fortune. If he could get someone selling for him in the UK,hit me up.
@@TheDistortionPrinciple I'm not sure about that, I've not thought of it to be honest. May well look into it. I use UK pedal builders to to avoid the issue, but when something comes along like this and want to try it can be an issue.

Walpurgis for a lot of reasons, but you can’t beat ease of use with only one knob! The TI also really does a great job. (If you want a better catalinbread box, the Giygas fuzz is worth checking out!) Killer to see this shootout, man! Cheers!

It's cool to hear the comparisons, but folks need to keep on mind that the synergy between these pedals, and the gear they're being used in conjunction with, will determine the end result. I have a Sabra Cadabra, and have also heard other videos where it sounds amazing, but it just doesn't seem to have good synergy with the rest of your setup. An example would be if you have pickups that are notoriously bright, with an amplifier thats notoriously bright, and a treble boosting pedal, your end result might sound like trash, despite all three pieces of gear being excellent. Others may have awesome results with the Sabra and their gear, while the other two pedals may sound lackluster, depending on how well they compliment eachother. Just something to keep on mind as a caveat...
I gotta vote for the Sabbra on this shootout. It might be getting away from Iommi's vintage tone though (a little thicker). IMO. I agree with the other comments, "They're all good. They all sound different from each other." I like the tone of your Laney head! Thanks!
