The Sabbra Cadabra is designed to be a chip based replication of the actual Laney Supergroup preamp configuration WITH the design and layout of an actual Arbiter Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster built in,- in essence,- a Laney Supergroup preamp with a Rangemaster Treble Booster going into it,- thus a FULL vintage Tony Iommi signal path from the first six Sabbath albums in itself and therefore NOT needing to be boosted by anything,- let alone the BCC T.I. Sig. Treble Booster,- as you would in fact be treble boosting the treble booster section of the Sabbra Cadabra! The BCC Treble Booster is in fact an actual Treble Booster,- modeled after the original Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster,- designed to meet the wants and specs of Mr. Iommi himself,- and should be used for boosting a low- to mid- gain tube preamp pushing it into full saturation,- i.e. a Laney Supergroup with a BCC T.I. Sign. Treble Booster going into it as its intended use. The Sabbra Cadabra as a " Tony Iommi classic tone in a box" type of pedal,- going into the effects loop of a tube amp or into a separate tube preamp before going into a Cab Sim or into your interface before meeting your IRs. Thus The Sabbra Cadabra and the BCC Treble Booster is not the same thing and should not be treated as such or be expected to sound as such.
I understand what the sabbra is attempting to emulate, i also understand the ti boost is set to iommi specs but to call it a rangemaster style treble boost is strange. It doesnt react like a real treble booster, ive owned a few at this point. As for nailing the tone of a laney in a box boosted by a treble booster the walpurgis does a much closer job tonally
Can’t really say enough about Steve’s pedals; makes killer stuff! Thanks for the demo. I honestly wasn’t thrilled win that pedal. I totally get where you’re coming from.
Thanks for doing this - very informative. As a small hint: I read/heard somewhere that someone really was working hard with the Guitar knobs and that he found it impossible to get a good tone with the Sabbra Cadabra without adjusting the guitar tone/volume.
Next time Steve has the Walpurgis on sale, get it. This pedal is all you need to get the Iommi sound from the Black Sabbath debut album all the way to the Dio years. I have one and love it. I can just jam on it for a long time (until my wife screams at me to knock it off). I'm amazed with how the tone of the pedal, depending on where you set the knob, is exactly like Iommi's tone.
I've recently aquired a signature Iommi boost pedal from Laney and it's a superb boost that can give you great tone. My only problem and compared with the Catalinbread Sabbracadabra pedal is that without a nice Laney amp to go with it, I doubt I will ever get close to the sound that I'm hearing in this vid. Take for example my trusty faithful Roland Cube practice amp. With the Sabra pedal, I get that instant classic sound and it's very exciting. swap with the Iommi signature and I get a wonderful clean boost sound but next to none of that classic distortion. Obviously you require a Laney being fed by this pedal to complete the setup and there would be the big note to everyone out there who doesn't have a Laney amp like this gentleman here, without that, your not going to get that fabulous sound with only the Black Country Iommi signature pedal. In sharp contrast the Catalinbread Sabra pedal gives me that instant classic sound, no matter what amp I'm plugging it into. Oh but here's a wonderful sound for you all to experience. First plug into the Iommi signature pedal, then connect the signature pedal into the Sabbra pedal and finally into your amp. WOW, what a cool sound. The signature pedal adds wonderful definition to the distorted sound. Could you please give me the correct setup/amp pedal settings with the Iommi signature peddle and amp settings to get the great sound you got in this vid? I'd love to know how to use it properly. Didn't really get it for the clean sounds but oh man, I do love them never the less, so it's been surprising.
Thanks! It's a very bass heavy amp. So bass was at 0, everything else cranked. The pedal I used like a normal boost. Gain down level up. The highs were up abd the bass down on pedal as well and I think the toggle was in the down position
@@TheDistortionPrinciple Many thanks for sharing, after hearing how awesome your lovely Laney is there, I'm now seeking out the Iommi Laney practice amp. Wonderful delicious guitar tone that rocks. I'll give my current gear a setup like you explained there and try it with my Valve Marshall. Thank you.
Please read my above comment on the Sabbra Cadabra,- it´s a glorious pedal if understood correctly and used the right way! For the full Iommi tone with a BCC T.I. Sign. Treble Booster you´ll need a tube / valve amp of any make at the edge of break up and then use the treble booster to push it into full saturation,- amp could be a Laney, Marshall, Engl, Blackstar, Hughes and Kettner, Mesa Boogie, Randall, you name it,- as long as it´s tube and about to break up,- insert BCC T.I. Treble Booster,- adjust to taste,- and Bob´s your uncle!
Great video i thought they both sounded good for their own reasons, in practice i definitely like hearing my amp more than that pedal, but if i had like a fender hot rod deluxe and needed to use a pedal, thats not the worst one i could grab from the bag before the gig. You are right, ridiculously powerful controls and super easy to make it sound like trash.
Im a novice at this. i'm a huge sabbath fan so i got the laney TI boost and the Sabbra Cadabra pedal and you just made me feel a lot better about my feelings about it. one small move on the Sabbra and its a big mess of noise. i think they made it to be too many things. not just a sabbath pedal, but a flexible sabbath pedal to make your own set up. too much. the laney boost is great. i think its time for me to invest in the walpurgis and unload the sabbra. i will say this about Catalinbread.. i was having some feedback issues, they paid for two way shipping and uploaded videos of what was going on and turned out to be an issue on my end. solved the problem. maybe this was just a swing and a miss for them? i think they do a good job with support.
Is this one of those pedals that's best used as a preamp pedal like a metalzone going straight into a power amp? My bands other guitarist has this and an Acapulco gold (boosted model T preamp) and doesn't care for either into a clean channel, but hasn't tried either into the loop.
! was really surprised when I stumbled on the MOEN take on a Sabbath sound. It's called the Dragon Roar. It has gain treble and mids. It doesn't have a bass knob. You just don't miss it. The bass is fixed at a sweet spot and works all the way thru it's range of gain. Well made. The jacks and switch are good and the pots are firm but smooth. The closer is $45.00 USD. I own about 25 high gain OD's and several are very pricey and it holds it's own. The term great fits but not just ...great for the money. There is zero dumbed down on this pedal with both sound and build.
Hi! I really enjoyed your video! I have a question regarding the LA30BL, does it have some kind of master switch? Or it always has to be boosted by turning up the volume?
@@TheDistortionPrinciple Hi have a question regarding the Laney LA30BL, does it need bias adjustment when changing power tubes? ho is it cathode bias?

That would make since becuzse it's a very hot pedal and iommi also rolled his volume back
I use the sabbra through the bose S1pro+ effects loop and its a tone sent from heaven.
Nice!!!!

I found starting with bottom knobs turned low and just work the top 2 knobs is the key to Sabbra pedal.
Great suggestion

I am not sure of the exact settings on the sabbra but the iommi boost was gain and bass low, volume high and treble a little over half

As far as a Treble Booster pedal goes. Which pedal would you recommend to nail Black Sabbath and Judas Priest?
Try the bsm treble boosters, the naga viper is a good one or maybe the rangemaster clone that's out these days
