I learned habitual anger from my childhood. I saw it more than experienced it, but I found that it was within me when I had my kids. Once I saw that my kids feared merely my tone, posture, and glances, I realized I needed to change. That before I taught a lesson, I needed to make sure my anger, and frustration was under control. It is a constant battle that I know I'll win one day, but I'll get there. And my kids are doing so much better and they're still VERY well behaved. I'm a mommy, btw. Always teaching and always learning

When you said Jesus..my ears perked up. Ive been desiring to go and pray before responding to the kids. When you said that you went into the closet to pause and pray..I knew this is the same that The Lord wants for me. He designed the family to experience joy in all aspects.

My 2 year old said , "I'm angry!" The other day and I was so proud. When my first was little I was not good at regulating mu emotions and would throw "adult tamtrums". I feel much better about the way we're raising our kids now where we can voice how we are feeling instead of just lashing out in anger.

I've learned so much from you regarding self-regulation for adults and my kids. I realize I had a lot of suppressed anger or emotions, so am now learning various ways to release like exercising, journaling, and sharing with those I trust. And my kids are also finding new ways to regulate through drawing, hugs when need.
You are right - training the heart takes so much effort, but it is true discipline and discipleship.
    THANK YOU JADY

Thank you for speaking to the heart. I feel like this is the conversations we need to have that unfortunately gets bypassed. It’s so easy to scream or result to violence but hard work is so undermined. Yes, I agree that your children seem so well behaved, thanks for your role in making our society a better place!

I threw a tantrum yesterday! I’m 2 weeks away from giving birth, our air conditioning was broken and my kiddos (4 and 3) were being extremely defiant and thinking it was hilarious. I screamed and cried and my kids just stared at me like what is going on?? I needed a nap so badly.
Obviously I apologized, and we talked about it. I grew up in a house with a very angry mom, and I didn’t realize how deeply that impacted me until I had my own kids. This is why I don’t spank anymore because I can’t do it correctly. My husband will because he can control himself better.

My daughter has been in and out of the hospital since she was 20 months old. Months on end she’s spent in that environment. It has really taken a toll on her behavior. At home, we Montessori and they’re VERY resistant to that life style in a hospital. They stripped away her independence and ability to meet her own needs- resulting in behaviors. I know her poor behavior stems from them removing control of her environment. I know my stress comes from them stripping my ability to control our environment too. Feeding times, the foods and how they’re prepared, people removing her ability to consent to her body’s autonomy (I spent the majority of my time there advocating her right to say no- when safe to do so… of course never when her life literally depended on an intervention.) I still feel tense and stressed from our experiences. I found even today- during an emergency- that the out of control tense feeling returns when I have to take over and remove my daughter’s ability to be autonomous/ intervene to save her life- even when she doesn’t want me to. For example, today my daughter’s glucose was 36- requiring IMMEDIATE intervention. My daughter is almost 100% dependent on a GJ tube for nutrition and to regulate her glucose (she is not diabetic, she suffers from an unnamed metabolic disease that prevents her from maintaining a normal glucose level without a continuous feed into her J tube.) that being said, she didn’t want to drink orange juice and refuses to let me give it through her tube. She will be 4 in a few days, but is far more advanced with her own medical situation than most kids her age- the hospital has aged her to a wisdom far beyond a child of her age should need. Her continuous glucose monitor came off and insurance won’t cover another one for a week meaning we have to rely on fingersticks. She’s typically very good having a finger stick done- but, today she wanted to do it on her own, she wasn’t feeling good and was whining and everything felt very out of control. I felt myself getting very angry- not at her, but at everything, I hadn’t had my coffee, I am sleep deprived because my niece just had brain surgery and I’ve been afraid I’m going to miss a phone call from my mom, it’s just been a rough few days. I do try to let my daughter correct herself- she has to learn how to do it for safety reasons. I just know when your glucose is 36 you’re not always able to do things yourself and she kept wanting to try. Finally, I just did what needed to be done and she of course had a meltdown, she wasn’t feeling good, and I know she isn’t always able to express it. It was a lot. She’s doing much better now but it was a rough start to the day.

I really liked this video. I came from a very cult like church who insisted in the rod meant to spank the child. Can’t wait to watch the video. I was even told to get a thin dowel rod to spank my little ones when they didn’t listen the first time. I couldn’t do it. I was told by so many people that I needed to spank my kids, and I have gone that route and the yelling but I hate it. I see the fear, the betrayal in their eyes and it’s hurtful. They are only 3, 5 and 6. I have been into other routes to teach them but I have not tried the consequences. This is very interesting. And they are not bad kids. They behave really well out in public and we help each other out while grocery shopping and stuff. But, there confidence is not there and there ability to self regulate is not there and I want to help them. Thank you.

Thank you for addressing this. I hate myself for it and I am going to stop. I realized i tend to do it when i am physically uncomfortable i.e, i feel ugly (which iis evvery day), i am too hot, I need to shower or my face is too oily, usually bc i am dealing with myself and they are being toddlers.
I am trying every day but when it gets to certain level BOOM.
It also doesn't help that i am financially dead pretty much so if i see them wastin any stuff like toothpaste i get angry. I am not justifyng, i am simply explaining.

Yup, yesterday I was running late, and I sighed really loud and bratty like. I thought, "Really, mom! You're yelling, you're stomping around like you've lost your tiara!!" I quickly realized that there was 5 little faces watching me and I smiled and slowed down. Lol, kids were probably thinking, "What in the world was that?!" 😂
