It is. And filled with wise words. We recommend listening closely to anything Teller talks about, particularly magic, theater, and art.

I just wish Teller would do a full blown TED talk (or something similar). The man has a lot of interesting things to say and a LOT of knowledge regarding both the performance and the psychology of magic.

Teller comes across as just an incredibly gentle guy. Got to go on stage with them to participate in a trick at their Vegas show, and he did an excellent job at keeping nervous little me calm. Both him and Penn seem very aware of the social cues of others and of how to keep volunteers comfortable and enjoying themselves. That's one of the reasons I admire them so much - I've seem so many videos where the volunteer(s) get uncomfortable for some reason, and the trick just feels awkward for the rest of the time. They both make sure to notice the beginnings of nervous tensions and Teller particularly does an amazing job at soothing those nerves. I respect both of them so much. Just wow.

  • @deltavee2

I read a little about his life on Wikipedia. He used to be a high school teacher that taught Latin...and Greek! This guy is no dummy. He doesn't speak because when he was supporting himself in college by doing magic at frat parties and the like, he found that if he stayed silent they were less likely to boo and throw beer at him. He just stayed with it because it is effective.
    Very cool dude.

I see his point in that it's a lot of power of suggestion but I think it's also a lot of pure skill. Even when I really study what he's doing as he's explaining it, it still really looks like he's putting the ball in his other hand when he's not. That's just amazing skill IMO.

I understand why he doesn't talk now, I think he is too nervous to talk, but when he performs, he is INCREDIBLE! Plus, Penn talks enough for the both of them. ^^
On a more serious note, I find him to be a magnificent individual who really shouldn't be so nervous. He is so captivating, even when he "dropped the ball", he probably felt very anxious, but if the people in the audience are anything like me, they could have cared less, because all they wanted was to hear and see him.

Teller taught highschool Latin. That's not a job for someone who can't think on his feet, or work with words.
I'm glad that his career has reached the point where it's just fine that people can hear him speak and not mess with the "illusion" of the show. Two years ago he "appeared" on History channel show about Houdini, they had him back-lit like a mafia informant so he could talk without being "seen".

Harpo began his unusual and rare public speech by saying, 'unaccustomed as I am to speaking' which got him a huge laugh. I can't help but like Penn and Teller despite that little bump in the road some years ago when they did that TV show, they got on my bad side just a bit, but no matter I guess one learns to filter out the stuff they don't like and relish the good things.
