    Learn UNSHUFFLED, the trick that Paul did on Penn & Teller: paulgertnermagic.com/unshuffled/
    Penn says "We know this trick and You Blew Our Mind." Normally Penn & Teller take a guess at how the trick is done. After asking to examine the cards they did not even bother to take a guess. They simply said "Paul Gertner You Fooled Us!"
    Paul Gertner is a Trade Show and Corporate Magician who specializes in fooling the world's most analytics audiences from Scientists to Engineers... and YES he even Fooled Penn & Teller. gertner.com Paul has 30+ years of experience performing at trade shows and presenting keynotes for more than 1,000 clients in 35 different counties. Paul Gertner has been awarded Close-Up Magician of the Year twice from the Magic Castle in Hollywood, and he has won The Siegfried & Roy Gold Lion Award, as well as the First Prize at FISM, considered the Olympics of Magic. He has also appeared on the NBC's Tonight Show, in the Wall Street Journal and in more than 35 countries.

    How someone becomes this good at manipulating cards that well is so insanely impressive.

    I think I worked out how he did it. In his left pocket he clearly has a marker, and in his jacket there are multiple decks. Now, he also has a watch that can stop time, so every time he wants to change the words, he pauses time, writes on the cards and then does the trick. It's pretty obvious really.
    I'm just being silly. This trick is absolutely magnificent. You are a wizard!

    One of my favorite things about this routine is that you didn't just fool everyone once, but you did it multiple times and it got better each time. Truly beautiful work. One of my favorite "foolers" on Penn & Teller by far. Great job!

      You have picked up my favorite part of the trick... the layered sequences that keep getting stronger each time. As you said it creates multiple endings... each one unexpected and each one building on the other. Glad you enjoyed Unshuffled.

You take your valuable time interacting with your fans on UA-cam. Nice way to show you are humble and down eath. Your trick was very impressive, but your six pillars of characters, much more impressive! Keep being you Arthur, thank you!

      Thanks for the nice comments. I learn a lot just hearing what people think. One guy gave me a suggestion for this trick on a very subtle touch (he was not a magician) but his suggestion was brilliant. The crazy thing was that over 40 years of doing the trick and teaching it to many magicians... none of us had ever thought of his idea. It's good to listen to other people... you can learn from them.

    Every single other "Penn & Teller: Fool Us" video has some sort of explanation under it in the comments section. Every single one. And that is probably what amazes me about this trick the most. No one can explain it. That's how you can tell this is one extremely talented Magician. Amazing trick. Absolutely amazing.

    • @metalfilms6660
      @metalfilms6660 7 років тому +1

      BOGO Gaming I actually could explain it and I actually performed this trick one because I bought his book where he explains the trick. I won't spoil it in the comments however because that would be unfair to him. If you want to know the trick, buy the book. The only part that really nobody can explain is the "Penn&Teller" part. That is simply stunning!

    I wonder if this man has a background in mathematics... There is definitely a pattern to the deck when he first spreads them out. And I was _kind of_ with it when he was showing 3 different versions of the word "unshuffled," as that could be explained by arranging the cards in specific ratios as they relate to the original sequence. (As the area of each letter would increase by a ratio of 2:1.) But when he started forming other words... I think the man literally blew my mind. And even if the cards simply had to be rearranged in specific ratios it would be incredibly hard to do so and make it look like a very convincing shuffle. (As he did.) And it didn't seem like a single card was shuffled out of place. This guy is amazing. O.o

  • @tuxedobob2

    I see a lot of comments that are close, but I don't see any that are quite right.
    The trick isn't getting four copies of the word to merge into two or one copy of the word UNSHUFFLED. A perfect "unshuffle" will do that. That takes a lot of practice, but it's not difficult to understand. The trick *also* isn't in getting the right card, because it's pretty obvious he gives her the card he wants, not quite the card she picks. And finally, the trick isn't getting it to say KING OF SPADES, because that's just the other side of the cards.
    The trick is how he gets what appears to be the same deck of cards to say THREE different things along the long side of the cards. He knows this is the trick, and he tells Penn & Teller this is the trick, if you watch his face when their names appear.
    I don't see a deck swap, although I can't guarantee there isn't one. He also doesn't rotate half the deck, as far as I can tell. I can't figure out how to get their names from either of the phrases above, but I'll grant that it may be possible.Only other thing I could think of is that one side of the deck actually says two things, but half the deck is actually set back a little bit.

    Weird as it is to say, I personally actually really appreciated that you were (what I interpreted as, at least) somewhat visibly nervous during this performance. It shows that even though you're clearly a master magician, with a published book that Penn and Teller bought and studied (and didn't even master themselves), you never lost the excitement of the trick, or your human side, and it makes you really relatable. Thanks for a great show.

      I guess they had a theory about how Paul could have fooled them but it required him having a fake deck or some kind of gimmick. • @randysavage8979

      Ii think they were checking if he marked both sides so he could have more combinations of words. I think that was the twist that it said Penn and Teller at the end. I'm guessing you can only spell out so many words with each set of marked cards and since he changed it to Penn and Teller that extra bit was the bit they were focusing on

    Everything except that 3rd 'Penn & Teller' side (well, actually seems to be the original 'Unshuffled' side judging from the direction of the bottom Ace), while flawlessly executed with outstanding precision, is easy to understand, but that finale is seriously mind-blowing. I can imagine distortion of letters, and rearrangment of sections of them, but the '&' doesn't seem to fit in from anywhere. Very impressive.

      One thing I noticed though, you put the deck in your pocket before showing it to them.
      Now I might not be a master of magic but even yesterday's uncooked salami knows that when something goes into a magician's pocket, it has been altered. 😃
      Anyway is that the case or am I wrong?

    • @paulgertnermagic
      @paulgertnermagic  7 років тому

      Not always... sometimes a magician pockets an item simply when the trick is over. The option for a spectator to examine every prop a magician uses in their show is highly unusual and would not make for a very interesting performance.

    This is by far one of my favourite tricks on fool us. The amount of skill and practice required to perform the "base" version of the unshuffle is incredible. I can only hit it consistently about 10% of the time. The bit where the cards read Pen and Teller blows my mind to this day. Truely inspiring!

    Way back when I was in dealer school, our instructor could do the Faro shuffle. He showed how he could make it look like he fully shuffled a deck when in reality it was back in a set order and he could name every card. It amazed me then, and your take on it is just as entertaining to watch. Thanks!

      DITTO, i noticed that too. Im curious to uncover how the this trick is performed... I observed that there was a specific manner in how he purposely held the deck at an angle showing the 'UNSHUFFLED' edge. Then when he spread cards out on table, deck was flipped over and spread out so viewer couldn't never see the other edge of deck. I dunno answer, but enjoy seeking out mystery of how trick is performed!!!

  • @tekkitlitecraft8723

    If u look at the first arrangement at 1:11, you can see that the deck is specifically arranged... the 9 of hearts matches with the 10 of hearts, and 4 with 5 (cards after 9&10), Q with J. Alternates every 3 cards with 1 higher or 1 lower card.
    Also, you can see this at 4:50(the two colors), this was a perfect shuffle; the arrangement of this deck was from a perfect shuffle of a number ordered deck with hearts, spades, diamonds, clover.
    Just some random thoughts :P

    I love when Teller gets that look of excited delight on his face, it's impossible to even tell who between he and Penn get the most joy out of seeing these great tricks.
    Fuck the forced ace, the part that's amazing is how each card is not only prepared so when re-united in order the word unshuffled refines more and more, but that with (as far as I can tell, I've looked a few times thru the video and seen nothing to contradict) the exact same deck of cards, with only one set of black markings on one of the longer edges, thoe very same marks could combine to spell out Ace of Spades as well as Penn and Teller.
