What an encouraging episode. So much work flies by when we don’t have to sand, scrape, and paint. ;-) you two just fill the day with life every time I watch and I suspect many underestimate the added support you’ve provided to Grace over those many weeks. What an amazing time together. Thank you for all the editing and filming, it makes a huge difference to me and my wife.
Thanks, Don! Really appreciate it! Grace is extremely loved and we are so proud to call her our friend. 💜 We've been doing our best to cheer her and Bill on during such challenging times.
You two are kicking ass, I was waiting for this episode for a few days now, and NOT disappointed ! well done kids , cheers from East Lansing Michigan!
Thanks, Donald!!! 🙌💪 We really appreciate all the good vibes sent out way!
She's looking great! Nothing like a freshly painted bottom and great job on the rudder. Have really enjoyed watching your work processes and learned a lot. All the best...
Thank you, Steve! Happy to hear you have enjoyed the boatyard series!
Timelapse makes bottom painting look deceptively easy. The boat is looking great!
😂🤣 so true! Thank you!
Wow, great job guys. The Fiberglass Kings are champions. Great to see you getting a break from sanding. Absolutely fantastic guys, well done. Love the vlog :)
Thank you!! We are ready to edit something other than boat projects! ⛵⛵
Your just about there,! We can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
Keep up the great work!!!
❤ from 🇨🇦
Thanks for all the love and support from Canada! 💙⛵🍻

Friends always make boat projects easier! One Life is looking awesome, great work Gary and Brooke 🙌
Thanks guys! So fun to be in the same boat yard as our buds on Calico! 💙
Hi from Orlando. Nothing happening in cocoa beach or Merritt Island. Keep up the good work.
Great job guys, I cant wait to see you back in the water
OMG Bro! Cutting down the chip brushes!!! Great tip/idea!!!
It was so helpful! Made a huge difference.
You guys are just about there...great job....cannot wait for the next vid.....Blessings to Calico Skies
Thanks, Peter! We are so excited to share this next chapter with everyone!
Dimitrius has worked tremendously on various boats with you Gary, Bill . . . . . . . Excellent 🍺🍺🍺
Big D is such an awesome person. He is an incredible friend and getting ready to embark on his own sailing adventures. Follow him on IG at SailingMarBella 💙
From searching internet to research dinghy boats my 12 year old is using when sailing, to learning about sailing with spinnakers. Next I found you, guys, and got so hooked up on watching your adventures!! You are incredible souls and I wish you all the best !
Hi Kasia! So glad you found us and hope you enjoy our channel. It is so cool that your 12 year old is interested in dinghy sailing. We've always wanted to try it but never have!
Well done guy's it's all worth it in the end aye! Thanks and enjoy!
Woohoo! Thanks, Danny! So worth it!
A compliment for Gary.
You are one of, if not, my top favorite boat skipper on UA-cam.
You seem to know your stuff and keep it very real all of the time.
Plus, you know how to have fun.
Good man, good Skipper.
One Life is certainly lucky to have such a wonderful captain! Thank you for such a nice comment!
I am looking forward to see the joy on your faces, Gary and Brooke, on splash day. If anyone deserves it, it's you guys. May your efforts reward you for years to come.
It was also great to see Bill and Grace helping out. Well done!
Thanks, Laurie! We are really excited to start sharing the next chapter with everyone! Bill and Grace are the best 💙💜
You can see the emotions of all the hard work was pay by off. Must be fun editing and knowing where you are now
Thanks, guys! Love you Ma and Pa Booger! 💙
oOooooh.... Happy for you guys.. I knew you'd get it done in time...
Thank you!! So excited to share our South Pacific adventures with you!
It really is coming together, looks great
Thanks, Dennis! It's so weird how everything really starts coming together so quickly at the end!
Those tears of joy... well earned! Things really came together in this episode, One Life went from looking a long way from being ready to splash, to looking like it would be any day...
So excited to share our next chapter! ⛵🇵🇫
I have not boating experience. I can’t express how much I enjoy your channel, journey and dedication to your goals. I thank you for what you both do.
Thank you, Paul! We appreciate your kind words!
Great job with the repairs to the keel and fitting the rudder Bill and Grace is a welcome bonus.
Thanks, Rich! And we agree, so good to have amazing friends!
Love the brush hack and the 2 part epoxy is brilliant. I think it's safe to say that your keel is good to go. The rudder looks really good, maybe stronger than before. You're finally coming to an end of the endless projects, on your first sail you can say, "we did it". Happy days are coming.
Thanks, Bob! It took us awhile to but we got it all done!
Ahh, way to go you two, looking forward to the BIG splash.
Thanks, Jack! Looking forward to sharing it with you! 🙌⛵
Very satisfying video for sure. Seeing the rudder being painted was the apex of the journey from the discovery of the rudder issue till finally finishing the repair and the the paint. It must have been such a relief for you to get it to that point. From the vantage point we viewers have, It seems like it went quickly. It was probably much more difficult and taxing than we can imagine. You have done anamazing job on One Life and you can be proud of your accomplishments. As sorry as I am to see the group of One Life, Calico Skies and Delos being split up, I'm ecstatic that you've all been so successful in your individual efforts. It's heart warming to see you all help each other over the months and I'm certain that the support you've given Grace and Bill has been wonderful for them.
Hi Terrance, thank you! We really appreciate your comment. The rudder was definitely not a repair we were expecting to do and it set us back quite a bit however we were super fortunate to have found the issue before our ocean crossing. We will always cherish our times with Calico and Delos. They are all very special friends of ours. Cheers~
Woohoo, the rutter fits! Great job guys! Brooke, what happened above your eye?! Ouch.
Ooops! Missed responding to this comment. Let's just say my birthday dance moves got a little wild.😝😂
@@SailingOneLife Happy birthday 🎂 🥳

Hi Jay, thank you! Yep, next video should be our splash! And then on to sailing videos again!
Enjoyed your channel! Just Subscribed.I’m trying to convince my wife that a circumnavigation is a great retirement project and went so far as to even start a little channel (@NavalGazingatCampDavid) to sell her on the life style….desperate times and all that. Lol. Thanks again for the great content. I have a whoooole new appreciation for the time and care it takes to create these episodes!
Hi David! Thanks for coming along with us on this journey! Sending good vibes to you and your wife. This is a common story and we think your channel is great! We know quite a few couples who use the FIFO approach as well.... fly in, fly out. A pretty good compromise! Wishing you much success in your retirement project!
Awesome job guys, can't wait for One life to be on the water again!
Your patience is paying off⛵⛵
Woohoo! Thank you! We are so ready to be sharing sailing adventures instead of boat work vids!
You guys make such an awesome team. She’s looking good. Awesome work guys. ❤️🙌🏼
Thanks, Jorge! We are really happy with how all the repairs and upgrades turned out!
It's great to see it coming together. I really like your bottom! It will be so nice floating in the Pacific.
Thanks, Craig! One Life likes her new bottom, too!
What an amazing job you guys have done.. You are a couple of rockstars!
Thank you so much, Jen and Ben! 💙🙌
You guys are troupers!!! So much hard work!! And it will all be worth it!!!

@@SailingOneLife I can’t wait also!!! I’d love to get the chance to do some sailing with you!! 🤞🤞🤞
It's looking so good
Thank you!
2 enthusiastic thumbs up!
Thanks so much, Andrew!! 💙🍻
Wow the boat bottom is looking awesome good job guys can't wait to see you in the water again
Thanks, Glenn! It's wild to see how quickly everything comes together towards the end!
I've seen keels fill up with water on a bunch of boats. I suspect a minor leak from above is the source of the water, it has no way to leave once its in there. If water in the keel is a problem (they don't generally have cores that rot but if they did , that's a problem, I would build the keel of a boat completely with fiberglass and lead, and the composition would be a solid one, with no volume space for water inside) Its easy to make the lead a solid piece and your left with a fiberglass shell and molten lead inside of it. I've seen it done. ).
You have done an amazing job on that rudder. Not to mention all the other project 🎉
Thank you! We are quite happy with how everything turned out!
Great community! ❤
The best! 💙🙌
Freakin YEAH! Looking good guys! I’m so glad it’s looking up for y’all! I’m looking forward to the Pacific crossing like crazy!
Thank you so much!! 🙌 Feels so good!
If i was here 11 months ago id suggest checking your keel bolts to make sure they are sealed good. water from the bilge could get in that way sometimes too
We have an encapsulated keel otherwise a good suggestion.
Lovely. Brave and bery sympathetic people ♥️
Thank you, Philippe! 💙⛵
Nice job. Looking good. Can't wait for splash day. Thanks for sharing
Thanks, Lois! Splash next video! 🙌💙
We just had our rudder off , it was 325 lbs!!! , no way two of use could man handle that thing like you guys did.
325?! Ooof! 😫 What type of boat do you have?
@@SailingOneLife I know ? Wtf ? Lol it’s a Bristol 45.5 rudder was solid glass no foam core and a solid bronze post . It was a beast .
Holy! 😲 How did you end up getting it off and on?
That was a great day!
Thanks, Larry!
Ok nap time. Looks very professional.
Thanks, John! We are really happy with how everything turned out!
Hi guys!! Oh the waiting for splash day!! Rudder and keel looking good Good job Gary! Brooke what ya do to yer eyebrow? That bandage to yer eyebrow? Lord I cant wait till yer splash day!! Fair weather for the finish ya all! Nice to see Bill and Grace there to Awesome Take care ya all
Hey there! Missed responding to this previously! Let's just say my birthday dance moves got a little out of control.....😂
@@SailingOneLife lol I hear ya!! take care
Great work, guys!!!
Thanks, Charlie!!
I know its way too late, but for future projects, I recommend grinding glass at all cost, and not sanding it.
Sand filler and compounds,. Glass should be left as rough as you can leave it. Not only does it bond better but in also in 10 times faster. Get a proper grinder!!!
Your friendly Shipwright!
Have you guys ever thought about keeping track of the amount of hours you spend doing repairs/maintenance on the boat? It would be interesting to see the amount average per month or year. Also, you could estimate what it would cost to pay someone to do the jobs and then you would see what you save or are “paying yourselves” per hour to do it. It would be interesting to see an episode on the normal maintenance you guys have to do on the boat monthly/quarterly.
Hi Justin, showing the normal boat maintenance is a really great idea, thank you! We have actually thought about recording our hours. Unfortunately this go around, we didn't keep track. We could estimate it but pretty sure we would be quite happy with how much money we saved doing it ourselves.
Where are you guys? I am getting worried and I pray that you two are safe. God bless and protect you, always.
Hi Dr. Fara! We are good! New video is in process. Thanks for thinking of us!
@@SailingOneLife Thank God you two are doing alright and are safe. Thanks for replying also.
Oh Yea, My fix for the week. 👍😀
Thanks, Gibb! 💙🙌
Algorithms! Good job guys.
Thanks as always Thomas!
Nice glass work...
Thanks, Colin! 🙌
All the best.
Thank you so much, Leona!
I may have to give the Trinidad Pro a try this year as I’ve been wanting to switch to a hard bottom paint anyways. $400/gallon is definitely not cheap! They seem adamant the paint is for professional applicators only! 🤣🤣🤣
We are extremely happy with Trinidad Pro. In fact, if we weren't planning haul out for other maintenance items, we probably could have gone another year or two without doing a bottom job. It is pricey but we believe it's worth the extra $. And no we are not sponsored by them in any way 😂. We found it easy to apply just followed their data sheet.
love you guys
Thanks, Martin! 💙💙
Getting a little closer each day to crossing the Pacific!
Woohoo! Can't wait to edit sailing vids again!
I wonder if "upperference" is an eggcorn, because Gary's new word makes perfect sense to me 😀.
Made sense to us too, Bill! 🤣😂
You guys are great and I do hope that soon you go on your Pacific journey safely and enjoy every day of your lives. May God bless you two and may God protect One Life during her journey across the world.
Thank you so much for all the positivity and good vibes! ⛵
So great see Grace on your channel too.
Sending her Positive Thoughts.
What's your plans now. Will you stay in and around Baja; or come up the Coast of California?
Thanks, Dennis! Really appreciate all the thoughts and good vibes you are sending to Grace! We are so proud to call her our friend. 💙 It was so hard to say goodbye to them as we split ways. Despite cutting it close on time, French Polynesia. Our videos are a bit behind real time.
@SailingOneLife OH, cool, thought you guys might have missed the window to ho across the Pacific. Did you buddy boat with anyone? Solo it?
I hope you meet up with Delos soon.
🎏
I use cardboard, big pieces to work on the ground.. very comfortable
Cardboard is a great idea!
You guys are bad ass!
Ha! We don't know about that but we try! 💪😂
Miss you guys
Hurry back. Blessings
Miss you guys too! Hope all is well! 💙
Seems like this sailing is more work than camping!😅
Haha definitely!
19 July 2023 I'm seing this episode.
What happened to your eyebrow? (13:51)
No mentions in the comments...
Hope all is well by now!
Great channel! Great videeos!
Love you guys!
Hey there! Brooke's birthday dance moves got a bit wild hahah 🤕
Two things? Let me guess: a sail and a boat? A keel and a rudder? An ice chest and cold beer?
Keel and rudder followed by ice and beer 🍻
Hey! how is OneLive doing? Missing you guys
Hey Jay! We got a little behind on editing! Thanks for checking in on us!
Rudder came out awesome, along with the rest of the bottom. Quick question, was there any cracking on the keel in the spots where it was sitting on the blocks? Can't wait to see it on the water again.
Great question! It appeared all the cracking was in the center of the keel but we did notice some when we were lifted off the blocks for splash. We made the decision that it wasn't significant enough to delay our splash date.
awesome
Thank you! 👊🙌
Solid Pun, take my like and comment lol.
🤣 Thanks, Adam!
❤❤
My hope is all ok with you guys! I hope I didn’t miss any other posts?
Hi Tom! Thanks for checking in! Nope all good here just took some time to edit our video. Hope you enjoy episode 103!
❤
Cheers, amigo! 💙
👍🏽
Everyone is better off with a 'fresh bottom'
No doubt! 😝
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸Maryland
Someday you will appreciate “spares”!
Hey Greg! You are absolutely right!
Bah. Stay happy. I come here for happy
You are going to see lots of happy in our upcoming episodes! 😁
curious about where the stands connect to the hull as to whether there was any small "holes". ?
When the stands were removed we checked the areas where the stands were and all looked good!
I wonder if you can legally go to Australia or New Zealand with 65% copper hard paint..
As far as we know there are no countries that have banned copper based paints, particularly for foreign arriving vessels. Copper has generally been deemed to be safe and minimally detrimental to the environment. But, if there was something that worked as well and was more environmentally friendly, we would use it.
What is the building behind the shots of Gary sanding?
Hi Ed! Not sure, it's abandoned but we believe it may have been a housing complex at some point.
👍🧿
🤞🤞🤞💙✌
💙⛵
Is it wind and a sail?
Need a keel and rudder first!
Did you have to buy a whole case of sandpaper?
At least! 🤣😫
Just curious, what happened to your left eye? You don’t have to share and if it’s already in comments I’m sorry I missed it.
It was a birthday ouchie....ask my dancing partner. 😂
Seems crazy that automakers have had to take all the copper out of brake pads for fears that copper from brake dust is polluting water but you can still get antifouling with copper in ?
As far as we know, Washington and California have banned copper from brake pads and have also enacted laws banning the sale and application of copper-based antifouling paint. But elsewhere there is no legislation about copper that we are aware of.
20:40 (ish)
Why do you need to get in the water within 60 days?
With hard bottom paint it will oxidize on the outer surface from the air and becomes ineffective.
@@SailingOneLife ah, thanks!
With the limited space you have on the boat, do you really need two dozen of fishing rods?
😂🤣 we probably don't need four dive tanks, three sets of dive gear and two kiteboards either but here we are 🤷😂
