    The mystery fish looks like a ribbon fish. We have them in coastal waters in SC. Not something I catch a lot of but I wondered same thing first time catching it.

    Just love seeing you living your best life in French Polynesia... It's been even more fun seeing so many other sailing channels I follow all there at the same time... One Life, Delos, Parley Revival and WeSail, it's like you are all teamed up offering us multiple episodes per week, giving us similar but certainly different views of the islands. Did a little google searching on your catch, appears to be a Ribbonfish, usually thought of as a trash fish and tossed back, but are actually supposed to be delicious. In Japan they are a highly priced fish food. Who knew, because it just doesn't look all that delicious on the outside.. lol

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  8 місяців тому +2

      Hey Bruce! So good to hear you are still enjoying our videos even though you are seeing French Polynesia on multiple channels.💙 We all appreciate your support! Guess we should have tried the Ribbonfish, but it did not look appetizing at all!

    Howdi Brook and Gary, what’s it like being in paradise for a few days? But of cause to get to paradise there is a cost with boat repairs and some very nasty waters. Good work by the way Gary sorting out all your problems that can add up quickly can’t they🥴🥴 I think you both have some balls sailing across the most gnarliest ocean in the world in what you could say is a small ocean going 40 year old yacht. Mind you Brook is always there when things get a bit dodgy and a very nice lady to boot😘. Well good luck on your sailing and thanks for the great shows. Jon🇦🇺

    Great idea using the fenders to hold the chain up from the Bombies....saves the coral and the chain from wrapping aound them. They make floats to do the same job. Love it when sailors think to preserve the enviorment

    Great video even a non sailor's dream being able to be in the Tuamotus. This place is so magical and the underwater life is outstanding. I do strongly think if more people humans did come to this place and it was easy to do so. Well then this spot would be ruined. Keeping it as natural as can be with less human traffic will be the way to keep this and places like it around

    It’s so beautiful there, with just the sounds of the water & the birds……It’s getting very chaotic and loud in the States right now, with what seems like a different War every day. It’s time for a trip to the Beach, although it’s not as pristine, the Gulf Coast water is great too.

    It takes longer for the atoll to drain than the tide to ebb, so slack tide is not aligned with slack current :)

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  8 місяців тому +1

      Yup, but additionally the swell and wind strengths and directions impact how much water is breaking over the reef and entering into the lagoon. This effect can be dramatic, and drastically change both the timing and strength of the currents in the passes. So you can't rely on tide tables to predict when slack current will be. We'll show an extreme example of this effect in a coming episode. 👍

    Incredible video shots. Loved seeing such amazing places through your eyes. Never ceases to amaze me that such places exist at all. Thanks for sharing! Speaking of impressed, One Life is kicking serious butt out there (ignoring the slight block explosion of course. These things happen. 😂). Oh, and congrats to Gary and his kite flight time. What do you do with your waste, like packaging and wrappers?

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  5 місяців тому

      We try to get rid of as much packaging as we can before leaving the marina or dock. Otherwise we smash it all into plastic jugs, put a lid on it and wait until we get to a port or marina to dispose of it.

    Not every sailor's dream. I sailed north of the Tuamotus, sailing from the Marquesas to Tahiti - in the days before GPS. The low visibility due to low height and strong random currents made them very dangerous when your location could be quite uncertain.

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  8 місяців тому

      Hey Tim! We can only imagine how sketchy this area would be without gps and modern technology!

    • @timdunn2257

      @@SailingOneLife - Actually, we nearly bought the farm in Tuvalu, which has the same problem - low atolls with fierce random currents. At dusk, I climbed the mast and looked around, nothing visible but the horizon. It was calm, the sails were furled, and wifey woke me saying, Tim, I can see the bottom! Not far off was an atoll. The charts labeled the island as being reported in various locations - 6 miles this way, 5 some other direction, etc. So, not only did we not know exactly where we were, we didn't know exactly where the island was! Now telephones tell you where you are. Of course, cell phones didn't exist then, either. My view was Blondie Hasler's - if we wrecked, we'd die like gentlemen. (We didn't have a broadcast radio, either.)
