That night sky time lapse was incredible! Beautiful starry night.
Thanks, Josh! It took about 5 hours to get this 10 second shot!
Agreed. Amazing.
I am an engineer, I am particularly happy to see a colleague being a good navigator. Both of you are doing great. Thank you for sharing your videos.
Thank you! Gary's engineering background has definitely been so helpful for us on this journey!
One of your best: feeding sharks and drinking coconut rum on paradise beach. Thanks for sharing, you guys are awesome!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this one!
The mystery fish looks like a ribbon fish. We have them in coastal waters in SC. Not something I catch a lot of but I wondered same thing first time catching it.
Yes! Very similar to this!
Nice Ribbon Fish! Have only ever caught one myself…in Galveston at midnight🤙🏼
LOVE the kite boarding! MAS PORFA!
Love you guys…Pura Vida!!!
Gary is an engineer, so he thinks he knows everything. -- one of the great lines! All the more so cuz you love the guy.
😂😂
Thanks Brook and Gary for showing us the new worlds while we are busy here in the big cities rat racing ….❤❤❤
Thanks for coming along with us out here!! 💙💙💙
Some people call those "ribbon fish". The actual name is a cutless fish. Great video ya'll.
Yes, exactly right! Thank you!
You can eat those cutlass ells they are good table fare
Just love seeing you living your best life in French Polynesia... It's been even more fun seeing so many other sailing channels I follow all there at the same time... One Life, Delos, Parley Revival and WeSail, it's like you are all teamed up offering us multiple episodes per week, giving us similar but certainly different views of the islands. Did a little google searching on your catch, appears to be a Ribbonfish, usually thought of as a trash fish and tossed back, but are actually supposed to be delicious. In Japan they are a highly priced fish food. Who knew, because it just doesn't look all that delicious on the outside.. lol
Hey Bruce! So good to hear you are still enjoying our videos even though you are seeing French Polynesia on multiple channels.💙 We all appreciate your support! Guess we should have tried the Ribbonfish, but it did not look appetizing at all!
Howdi Brook and Gary, what’s it like being in paradise for a few days? But of cause to get to paradise there is a cost with boat repairs and some very nasty waters. Good work by the way Gary sorting out all your problems that can add up quickly can’t they🥴🥴 I think you both have some balls sailing across the most gnarliest ocean in the world in what you could say is a small ocean going 40 year old yacht. Mind you Brook is always there when things get a bit dodgy and a very nice lady to boot😘. Well good luck on your sailing and thanks for the great shows. Jon🇦🇺
Hey Jon! Thanks! Yeah some days are pretty shit out here but some days are absolutely amazing and make all the challenges worth it! Happy to hear you are enjoying the videos! Cheers!
My husband is an engineer and he definitely knows how things work. And I'm grateful for that because I'm a complete idiot in that realm. If it wasn't for his skills we would never have taken on sailing.
I 100% agree. Gary's skills have been extremely beneficial and have saved our butts out here many times!
Great idea using the fenders to hold the chain up from the Bombies....saves the coral and the chain from wrapping aound them. They make floats to do the same job. Love it when sailors think to preserve the enviorment
Thank you! We try to help in any little way we can :)
Hey, engineers do know everything! 😂
😂😂
ribbonfish excellent mahi bait
Yes! Exactly what it was! Next time we will keep for bait!
6:07
WTF guys that was a brilliant shot from the drone.
underwater and flying out up over onelife .
RESPECT!
I remember flying that shot and thinking "there's no way this will actually work!" Sometimes crazy ideas get lucky!
sweet night timelapse, hopefully this time there is less bugs!
Heyyyy friends! Thanks! Took a few hours but loved how it turned out. No bugs this time! Phew.....😂
Great video even a non sailor's dream being able to be in the Tuamotus. This place is so magical and the underwater life is outstanding. I do strongly think if more people humans did come to this place and it was easy to do so. Well then this spot would be ruined. Keeping it as natural as can be with less human traffic will be the way to keep this and places like it around
Catch you next video
Hey Jonathan! Thank you! Happy to hear you enjoyed this video. We still can't get over how stunning the Tuamotus are. We look forward to sharing more of the underwater world with you!
I can't believe you all are there.
It's been a wild ride!
Hi Gary! Nice to humped into an American mate in Auckland, New Zealand 🇳🇿 We look forward to view your journey in Aotearoa 🎉😮
Thanks, David! Looking forward to exploring! 🇳🇿
Wow you guys really look great whish I was c with you ❤️
Ah, thank you! 💙
@@SailingOneLife but you are
I read Kon Tiki when I was 12 years old which was many years ago. I teared up when you showed us the monument. Thank you. Thank you Gary for getting up on the board, proving once again us engineers do know everything!! LOL
Oh boy another engineer 😂 😂 So glad you enjoyed seeing the monument! It was so cool to be in that exact spot!
It’s so beautiful there, with just the sounds of the water & the birds……It’s getting very chaotic and loud in the States right now, with what seems like a different War every day. It’s time for a trip to the Beach, although it’s not as pristine, the Gulf Coast water is great too.
It is such a peaceful and calming place! Very grateful to be able to step out of the world's chaos for a bit. Beach time, no matter where it is, is always good for the soul!
I really liked that time elapse at night seen looking at the stars going by. I thought that was pretty cool.
Thank you, John! We loved how that turned out as well!
Very nice video! It seems like the beautiful locations are endless in French Polynesia. And who knew there would be rum filled coconuts at some of them 😁. Also, just so you know, 15 degrees and snow in Webster today! All the best...
Hey Steve! Ooof. 🥶 Talked to Gary's mom this morning and she said they were bundled up inside! Hope you are staying warm!
You guys are really out there sailing in the wild South Pacific ! Good for you. Jeesh, look how far you've sailed ! These adventures will be memories of a lifetime for you. Fair winds and following seas to you both ! Bravo Zulu.
Thank you sir.
Thank you! We can't believe how far we've come! It's been a wild ride so far and we can't wait to see what is next! 💙
Okay cutest of them all
You folks are doing great work! Excellent navigation
Thanks, Frederico!
Won't be long before Gary starts doing jumps with that kite.
.....I think you are probably right, James! ~Brooke
So Happy 4 yall 2 experience such Beauty ! Great video Stay safe 🙏
Decent music selection in this video. Thanks for sharing your experiences.looks like such a beautiful place
Hey, thanks! Glad you enjoyed the music, Gary picked it all out!
Wow, seems like it might have been worth the trip across the Pacific very nice
100%! The South Pacific is an amazing place!
You gyes are some beautiful souls , nice job 🏁🏁
Thank you for coming along with us on this journey! 💙
Wow
Hi Gary & Brook. Another good watch. I look forward to catching up sometime. Hopefully sooner than later. Keep up the good work. SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿
Hey Russ! Hope to see you soon!💙💙
There’s no word for all the beauty you have given us. So glad you’re able to live your dream. 🦌
Hey Dennis! Thank you! We appreciate you coming along with us!
Its actually a cutles fish . Crazy looking
Yes, exactly what it is! Very wild looking! We've heard they are tasty?
Gary you caught what we call in NZ a Lung fish
Clean it, then cut into 2-3 inch strips skin on , roll in flour & cook... Yummy
Interesting! It certainly doesn't look that tasty. 😂Maybe if we catch another one we will try it! Where are you from in NZ?
Loved that night shot! Stars ✨ were awesome
Ah, thank you! ⭐It took about 5 hours to get that 10 sec shot ....love how it came out. We appreciate you noticing!
@@SailingOneLife whatever camera 🎥 upgrades yawl did, well worth it. Much too nice!
I learned some Swedish with Babbel, super easy but partner doing it with me stopped and so easy to forget unless you practice
Ah nice! We agree it is much easier to learn when you are practicing more. Thanks for the comment!
Wow, what a gorgeous place, absolute paradise. It was a long ocean crossing but well worth it, I would assume. Thank You for sharing your adventure.
Hey Bob! Yes, worth it for sure! French Polynesia has so much to offer. Very grateful for this experience.
It's so beautiful there! We're Sea sick though watching you go side to side. Lol. So envious of you guys. Keep up the great work. Hope to catch up with you soon ❤
Hi Guys! Happy New Year! Hope you are doing great! We need to catch you guys on a zoom one of these days!
Thanks so much for yet another fine video.
Hi Scott! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing your experience. Beautiful. 😅
Thank you for coming along with us!
OMG 😱 WOW m Brooke and Gary ‼️ The exuberant smiles on your faces [mostly Brooke, guys just hide this stuff] just laps up all the tears she'd in getting ready for this audacious voyage for you two 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 And,.........B. R. A. V. O., Gary on the kite surfing "first timer!!" Totally love it. You both have relaxed well and.....learned a ton. See you next time. ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
Hi ya, Richard! Thank you! The Tuamotus are simply stunning. We've come a long way since the boat yard tears!
It looked like a ribbon fish
Yep, we think your right!
Love these two
ah, thank you! :) 💙
Great lifestyle
Thank you!
Ahhh! The Beach! Wonderful video Brooke and Gary, so satisfying to see all that hard work in Puerto Peñasco paying off in such a perfect way! Good on ya ❤️👏👏👏😊✊
Thank you!! Hope you had a wonderful holiday! 💙💙
Fantastic, a real paradise! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Andre! Hope you had a wonderful holiday! Hope you are well :)
That crome fish was called the giant ribbon fish
Ah yes, exactly what it is. Some people report that they are quite tasty.
It takes longer for the atoll to drain than the tide to ebb, so slack tide is not aligned with slack current :)
Yup, but additionally the swell and wind strengths and directions impact how much water is breaking over the reef and entering into the lagoon. This effect can be dramatic, and drastically change both the timing and strength of the currents in the passes. So you can't rely on tide tables to predict when slack current will be. We'll show an extreme example of this effect in a coming episode. 👍
Oh wow I saw that movie I think it was named Kontikki . Pretty good
Yep that's the movie! Very cool!
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching! 💙
He more than thinks sweetheart.
That is your man that when he puts his mind to it he will come out a winner.
I have watched both of you do that. Win ! All in all
Thank you!! 💯💪
Oh my gosh, that starry nights time lapse was amazingly beautiful! Well done. Also, well done on the kiteboarding gary!
We love how that night lapse turned out! Thanks for noticing! 🤩
He guys. Outstanding video. Great job Gary learning to kite board. You’ll have it mastered in no time 👍. Beautiful location. Sundowners on that beautiful white sandy beach is the ticket for sure. Love the water clarity. We’re envious of your weather since next week we’re dropping into the single digits 🥶💨❄️. Perhaps Jake and I will get to build that snow shelter we’ve talked about. Closing on our home place today. Mixed feelings but anticipated. All is good. Cheers 🥂
Hi Trent, we must catch up soon! We hope the sale went smoothly and you are feeling as best you can. The weather sounds great for sipping a bit of moonshine around a fire. Did we see a YT post that Jake is injured? Hope he is doing okay. Will send message soon!
That place is so dreamy. Can't wait to sail there ourselves. Love the night sky time lapse. So many other solar systems in the galaxy, but it's hard to imagine there would be anywhere cooler than where you guys have been in French Polynesia. And kite boarding in the lagoon of an atoll has to be a bucket list item. I'm sure Gary was stoked about that.
The night sky time lapse turned out amazing! Spent five hours on the beach to get that shot.....worth it! And yes, you know Gary, he was so happy about being able to try out his new kite gear!
Finally....... I have been waiting on the next episode. You are late! ;)
Nah we are right on time! 😂💙💙
We live in Kaitaia, it's about 130 km from the top of the north island
Seriously Ling's are delicious but fry with their skin on 😁👍
Nice, if we happen to catch another we will give it a try!
Hey guys - so cool - mantas and sharks and clear water - blowing bubbles - so happy for you - well done - great footage of the stars man that is cool. Did you float your anchor rode for the bommies.- aaha you answered the question -so brave going through the cuts shew..
Hey Dirk! Hope you had a wonderful holiday! All the marine life in French Polynesia is just amazing!
What a wonderful video again!
Not sure if you guys are aware of this but you're following Thor Heyerdahl's steps already for the second occasion. He got the seeds for the idea of crossing the Pacific on a raft while living on Fatu Hiva a decade earlier.
Since we visited Kon-Tiki we read more about Heyerdahl and learned of the time he spent in Fatu Hiva. Such an explorer!
Wow Sailor 🥳🥳👍
Thanks Wow Sailor! 💃⭐🌎
Another groovy and very beautiful episode with One Life.
Thank you! The Tuamotus are top notch!💃💙🌎✌️
Wow! Blown away. How beautiful. What an amazing experience. Thank u for sharing.❤❤👍🏻🙌🏼🙏🏻
Hey Jorge! Thank you! We still can't believe how beautiful the Tuamotus are! 💙💙
Great show!
Thanks, Craig! Hope your doing great!
Really beautiful small islands. Fantastic colours.
Would love to join you guys for a sundowner 😊
I used babbel to learn Spanish, bahasa indonesia and now for Italian.
Beautiful greetings from Italy❤🎉
Maybe we will see you for a sundowner one day! Good to hear you are using Babbel! We used it for Spanish initially and now for French! Thanks for the greetings from Italy! We hope to get there one day.
Looks like where dreams are made!!
Such an incredible place!
What an absolutely gorgeous place to visit. So calm and those clouds look like they are touching the water. Mesmerising. What a great journey you guys are on. Love the vlogs :)
Hey there :) thanks for such a nice comment as always! 💙
You've had so many cool marine wildlife experiences in recent episodes in MX and in BC. So wonderful to experience this stuff. I'm jelly that you guys get the first hand experience but happy you're sharing so we can experience it vicariously!
Hey Larry! I think you are thinking of Calico Skies! 💙
@@SailingOneLife I must have not hit send fast enough after typing the comment and your video started. UA-cam bug!
Haha too bad for Calico we got their comment! 😂
@@SailingOneLife I went back to that video and pasted it. That footage they got of the humpbacks was pretty awesome.
Heyerdahl established that it was POSSIBLE for Americans to visit Polynesia. Subsequent discoveries and technology disproved his theories.
Hey! This looks so incredible! And I loved that you were able to get that night time beach time lapse! Love tagging along with you :)
Hey Donald! I was hoping you would like that shot! Our favorite night time lapse so far! Took about 5 hours to get 10 secs....you know the drill!
Great job as always you guys! Thanks again for bringing us all along. 😀👍
Thanks, Eric!! Hope you are having a good week!
Thanks for another awesome episode guy's absolutely love the way you produce your episodes!! The places just seem to get better n better each day aye!! Enjoy guy's and stay safe 🙏
Thanks, Danny! Appreciate you always cheering for us out here!
Good stuff! glad to see you enjoying ride. That place is awesome. I could stay there for a year!
Hey Joe! Hope you are doing great! The Tuamotus are top notch for sure! Hope to make it back there one day.
Incredible video shots. Loved seeing such amazing places through your eyes. Never ceases to amaze me that such places exist at all. Thanks for sharing! Speaking of impressed, One Life is kicking serious butt out there (ignoring the slight block explosion of course. These things happen. 😂). Oh, and congrats to Gary and his kite flight time. Looks like sooo much fun.
Hey Matttttttt! Thanks! We are pretty proud of our salty gal! She takes such good care of us. Sending hugs to you and Becca!
What an incredible adventure you are both having. :) Watching from Queensland, Australia, as usual. 😊
Thank you, Di! Hope you had a wonderful holiday!
What a beautiful video, Brooke. Looks like all is good with you. Envious of all the beautiful places you are visiting. Happy New Year, Ed
Hi ya, Ed :) Happy New Year! Always love hearing from you!
Liked the photography, great shots enjoy the new toys!
Thank you! Gary is certainly loving his new kite gear!
Hoping to learn Spanish for a rafting trip in Mexico!
Sounds like a super fun trip, enjoy! We used Babbel to learn Spanish while we were in Mexico! Very useful!
Beautiful place. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for coming along with us!
Wow! How did you get the shot at 6:05 ?! Always phenomenal footage and great adventures. Thanks for sharing!!
Swellpro Splashdrone. Every now and then I get a crazy idea for how to use a waterproof drone. Got lucky and that shot worked out!
Looked like a small Oarfish.
Yes, it looked similar!
Gary, What kind of sv is One Life? I'd sure like to have one... Thx.😀
One Life is a 1983 Nautical Development Offshore 40, built near Tampa, Florida. Only 14 were built and we don't know of any for sale currently.
🙏🏻...
Thanks, Smee!
Hey Brook remember like 2 years ago when that lobster bit the tip of your finger off? Did that heal up fine or is it gone forever?
Hey Bert! Ha! Yes, I remember! Finger is all healed not even a scar to show for!
What do you do with your waste, like packaging and wrappers?
We try to get rid of as much packaging as we can before leaving the marina or dock. Otherwise we smash it all into plastic jugs, put a lid on it and wait until we get to a port or marina to dispose of it.
It's a ribbon fish
Interesting! Have you ever eaten one?
Great underwater shots.
Fun watching you both.
Do you hook up with Delos much?
Hey Dennis! Yes, we have spent quite a bit of time together. You will be seeing them in some upcoming episodes.
❤❤😊
Thank you for all the love, Cindy!
Not every sailor's dream. I sailed north of the Tuamotus, sailing from the Marquesas to Tahiti - in the days before GPS. The low visibility due to low height and strong random currents made them very dangerous when your location could be quite uncertain.
Hey Tim! We can only imagine how sketchy this area would be without gps and modern technology!
@@SailingOneLife - Actually, we nearly bought the farm in Tuvalu, which has the same problem - low atolls with fierce random currents. At dusk, I climbed the mast and looked around, nothing visible but the horizon. It was calm, the sails were furled, and wifey woke me saying, Tim, I can see the bottom! Not far off was an atoll. The charts labeled the island as being reported in various locations - 6 miles this way, 5 some other direction, etc. So, not only did we not know exactly where we were, we didn't know exactly where the island was! Now telephones tell you where you are. Of course, cell phones didn't exist then, either. My view was Blondie Hasler's - if we wrecked, we'd die like gentlemen. (We didn't have a broadcast radio, either.)
"...he's an engineer and he thinks he knows everything"! I know that's true. Oil and gas exploration business for over 40 years and I've never heard and engineer or a geologist say "I don't know". Let a landman say that though and it's Katie Bar The Door...!
😅😅so true!
Just because it’s a bad idea doesn’t mean it won’t be a good time……
It's amazing the ideas we have after a couple rums! 😂
😀👍👍👍❤
Thank you! 💙🌎
I didn’t realize Gary is an engineer… I am a mechanic so I guess I’ll have to unsubscribe 😜😂
😂 😜
catching up...
Languages... Does Babbel have Kiwi and 'Strian?
Haha! Kiwi and 'Strian are an app of their own.
Hi ya, Joel!
👍🧿
💙💙🌎🌎
At 21:47, It's probably not a good idea for your friend to rinse off his fish-flavored hand in the water after just hand feeding a fish to the sharks. Just sayin'.
Brady on Delos was bitten by a barracuda once like that.
Haha! Didn't even catch that. Nope, definitely not a smart idea.
The music coming on louder than the conversions is very annoying. I listen with earbuds, and the music comes in very loud. Otherwise, very interesting videos!
Thanks for the input, Larry! We will take a look at our audio balancing.
Also, what kind of engineer is Gary - mechanical, electrical, etc.? Where did he work before he quit his job for sailing? Thanks much!
Why is it that every sailor has to get drunk to enjoy being out there?
Why is it that you assume enjoying a few drinks with friends means we have to be drunk to enjoy it? Sounds like a bit of a projection
Why do you have to impose your values on the rest of the world?
